Obskeree
Woohoo I'm not dead! march was a mulligan. April I will be doing Nix to fulfil my enforcer pledge.
Popular Post TeaCrusader
And I have done it. Playing some more with the blending I was trying with the poison Gamin I decided to paint my Ohaguro Bettari that's been lounging around unused and half-painted for a while. I believe this will complete my pledge for the month! Pretty pleased considering it's the first time i've properly tried anything quite so bold painting wise. The git is that I've now basically backed myself into having to do the same effect for every Oni.. WELP.
Popular Post catsgamesandpizza
@TeaCrusaderthat green glow looks amazing! Would you mind detailing the steps for it? yesterday I finished an Enslaved Nephilim, pretty happy with the results! 14

TeaCrusader
@catsgamesandpizza Thanks! Sadly I don't have photos but I'll do my best to explain what I did. I painted the Red (just a mid red with a red wash over the top) first, partly because I only decided to do the Flicker glow afterwards. The green was primarily two colours, from the citadel range. The deeper Warpstone Glow, and the bright Moot Green. I started by coating on a fair few layers of very thin Warpstone Glow. It didn't blend too well with the red, so I suspect there's a better way to go about this bit. I did put a coat of Ork flesh contrast paint on it, but not sure this has actually affected the final product at all so probably not an important step. I built up the blend by just mixing the two paints starting with a mix heavy with Warpstone glow and adding more Moot Green for each grade of the blend. Each Grade involved a couple of thin layers, Eventually I painted a layer in just Moot Green. I gave it a coat of Thraka Green wash to get some shading in without knocking out the actual colours (Do not use a contrast paint for this oh boy I have learnt that lesson!) Finally I finished it up by mixing a little Golden yellow (a very bright yellow) with the Moot Green to make a final tone. An old lecturer of mine on my concept art course taught me that if you want something to look like a glow then shift the hue a little on the brightest colour. Move green to yellow, or blue to teal or purple etc etc. Helps it look like it's got a bit of light to it. Hope that makes sense and helps! Also that IS a beautiful red on the Nephilim! Popular Post Harlekin
So, after the Rabble Risers, two weeks ago, I finally finished my Rogue Necromancy. I have to confess that I was a bit lazy with this one, did the wings with meager drybrushing. But I just ran out of motivation. Maybe I will try to improve the wings in the future. With finishing the Necromancy I am done with my Forgotten Keyword.
Popular Post Antinea
I'm calling the 1st cyclops done. There has been a few disasters, but at my current skill level, any attempt to fix will end up in a bigger disaster. Obviously, I still have the base to do but I am hopeful of finishing the 2 cyclops by end of month.

Antinea
@Caedrus Airbrushing. I found out that I am way better with an airbrush than I am with a standard brush.

Rathnard
@Caedrus With my Black Ops finished, I'm done for the month; (Sorry for the crappy pics) These have rapidly become my favourite unit in the Allegiance. There's just so much character in each sculpt! I also got this fellow done; Not Wyrd, obviously, but he's been on my half- painted pile for at least a year so I figured it was time to finish him off! I'm pretty happy with how he turned out. Even though i almost never play the game. Anyway for the sake of the pledge, this month I've painted 11 Fireteam bases (11x5), an Egg Clutch (7), Earl Burns (3), and 9 ECB Black Ops (9x5) for 110SS in total. ... and for the sake of updating convenience, my February pledge was 103SS, while March was 81SS.
Popular Post Caedrus
Caedrus, reporting in! I hope everyone here is well, staying safe, and staying sane. This month, I finished 37SS of minis. So, this month, I decided to actually finish my Mounted Rider, which had an unfortunate incident with gravity. Post bodge repairs, green stuff, and touch ups, her’s how she looks! 8SS of repaired mini. My secondary objectives were my Gravediggers, which I was quite pleased with: The female Gravedigger’s saw needs an improvement for the NMM effect. It’s not blended adequately. The male Gravedigger’s OSL is probably a little too bright. I have imagined it at night time, so that’s the reason for the huge difference in lighting levels. 12SS for these. I messed about and, purely for fun, made a couple of proxies this month, being some ‘Miss’ versions of Agent 46 and Sebastian. They're Wyrd figures, so they count as 9SS and 8SS, respectively. Enjoy! I’ve got one more proxy experiment, being an Alan Reid replacement: …and, as my May objective, I’ll finish off my Aionus. Meantime, I’m loving the painting this month. It’s awesome to see how people’s styles change, even as their skills improve. Here’s just a little bit of feedback. @Barbercat: A wonderful Winnie. Very crisp painting. The fur colour is just right. Really gets into the creep child’s-dream mindset. @Hellomurse: Congrats on finishing your Abyssinians! Contrast paint makes such a huge difference. (Oh, and if you’re a fan of contrast paints, there’s a Scale75 Kickstarter on right now for their version of contrast paints. @Wintergloom: I do love that mini. The red/black/jade looks superb, as does the rusty knife effect. Kudos! Also, I thought that your proxy Sloth was a modified Sloth, so well-picked! Those Night Terrors are wonderfully grotesque, and your Marshal’s flesh is well chosen. Just ‘nicely dead’. Can we all see your board? @Harlekin: Congrasts on finishing the Forgotten! I am really grooving on that blue/green colour scheme you’ve adopted. Simple, smooth paintjobs as well. The lower-contrast Rogue Necromancy is really nicely executed. @zesty: I always admire anyone who can get their blacklining (or similar) technique just right, which you’ve done. It makes the paintwork seem very clear. That ruffian is a great example. @catsgamesandpizza: You’ve started the Challenge with a great mini. The single hue Child is very nice, and (of course) creep as hell. Your Decembers are really striking. I like the high-contrast style. It’s an impactful style that really grabs your attention! I still want to know how you did that Nephilim’s skin! @Rathnard: I’m not an Other Side player, but I have to agree, those sculpts are really very characterful. Beautifully painted, thematic teams. Super consistent, lovely brushwork. Is that Apothecary a conversion? @Stranglelove: My Yan Lo arrived yesterday. I love your paint scheme. I think I may have to steal the green, particularly. Love the Ashigaru. If I had to critique, I’d say that your Yin is too well painted! When I do mine, it’ll break my heart to splash around the blood and entrails! @Nikodemus: That’s a nice vermillion you’ve chosen. I wasn’t expecting that! @TeaCrusader: I think you’ve discovered one of your cursed miniatures, in those gamin. They ended up very pretty, though! The Bettari’s green is absolutely wonderful. Really vivid, unexpected and brilliant. It’s a horrifying miniature. @muraki: I like both Thunders minis, but the freehand on Misaki is my favourite. Very, very fine detail, and nicely executed. @Diddick: Your style continues to impress me. I love the red/blue temperature contrast, but my favourite bit is the NMM blade highlighting. You’ve absolutely nailed it. @Antinea: I think I know what you mean. I get an airbrush piece done, ready for brushwork, and I’m then terrified of screwing it up with the brush! In any case, lovely Cyclops: you’ve really portrayed the temperature very, very nicely. I’ll actually update the spreadsheet very shortly. Sorry, I’ve had a few jobs on the go lately! 😜 Stay safe, stay well, look after each other. Caedrus. 6
Rathnard
@Caedrus Thanks! The Apothecary is straight from the box...or at least I think it is. I bought it second hand so it came assembled. @Wintergloom I love what you've done with the western buildings. Much better than the dodgy effort I put into mine. :P @Antinea Well done on the Cyclops. It's paint jobs like this that make me question my decision not to invest in an airbrush... @TeaCrusader The bases on your Murder Monkeys look great. Is it supposed to be Lava? Or are they black bush things with a red underglow? It's a little hard to tell, but it has me intrigued - I've been looking at ways to vary up my basing from my usual "dirt 'n' ruins" approach.
TeaCrusader
@Rathnard The murder monkeys were in fact @Diddick not mine. Though the bases do look amazing! I have done hot coals on a fair few of my models but not any of the ones this month (and it's not nearly as impressive as Diddick's bases!)
Diddick
@Caedrus thx! to be honest i was kind of lucky with the NMM, i wanted to try something different for the metal, go for a redish metal (to add contrast with the dominant green/blue) instead of the blue/gray formula i usually do. After a couple of failures on the highlights attempting with redish grays, i ended up going with the steel gray + white, wich is kind of blue, and it created this very contrasted highlight on the redish blade.@Rathnard the red glow is not lava, it's just glow, honestly XD. Let's call it Oni Glow, there's no much explanation about why is there other than give "consistency" to the whole oni band. I'll be adding this bright red in all the Oni minis (either in the base, lamps, eyes... ) this way i'm not tied to a whole color scheme for all the minis and can try things i think will look best in each one of them, while keeping the feeling of a "team" at the saem time. I already did that for my hamelin crew with a green glow and i liked it.

Popular Post Viruk
Hi there, hope everyone is staying safe and healthy! I's been a busy month but I managed to complete Euripides and the rest of his crew. The remaining three minis were pure fun to work with: As always, more pictures can be found on my blog at http://www.whatthefaux.net/2020/04/here-be-giants.html or on my IG profile https://www.instagram.com/what.the.faux/ Now let me have a look at what's been shown here so far this month @Caedrus - quantity, quality and creativity ! Agent 46 is my favorite - I like the limited color palette there. @Rathnard - those are probably my favorite minis from ToS range, so much character there! Really nice paintjob on these. @Wintergloom - well done, the dirt adds a lot of character here @Antinea - lovely work on the Cyclops, nice and smooth highlights @Harlekin - I like the way you've made sure each of the heads stands out but at the same time there is a coherent grimy look @Diddick - I like the dark and muted colors, coupled with smooth highlights the paintjob on Yokai is ace @muraki - nice and vivid colors. I'd suggest experimenting with working on defining shades a little more (e.g. a thinned down glaze can add extra layer of depth) @catsgamesandpizza - red skin tone on the Enslaved Nephilim looks amazing. Also, the pale skin tone on Malifaux Child is well chosen. @TeaCrusader - solid work on the OSL. I'd recommend going even more extreme with highlights by adding some yellow/white to the mix on the most protruding parts. Gamin also look very nice but again, I'd suggest going even a bit further with definition and adding more highlights on most protruding elements @Nikodemus - great work on the texture - getting it done on such small bits like hats or fur is an achievement in itself. @Stranglelove - you've survived the beard and lived to tell the tale! Great work all around @Purple Mist - very nice balance between brown and black/grey, they look great! 14
