  3. Hi guys, question about the Bountiful Feast of Kastore (Awakened). I am struggling to understand how this should be used. I have seen brief mention of it, from a while ago, in which it was generally dismissed as bad. However, given internet wisdom also considers things like Athorak to be bad (LOL!), I’m not inclined to just accept this take. Hopefully someone with experience of playing Awakened can help guide me. Bountiful Feast is a Master AP with the once per Turn restriction. This tells me that Wyrd considers this to be a high impact, potentially turn defining action, they don't want spammed. In essence it generates an unusually large (4”) pulse that causes each enemy in range to pass relatively difficult Df flip (most models will need to flip a 7-8) or take 1 dmg. For each enemy that takes damage (i.e. doesn’t reduce it to 0) a different friendly Returned in range can heal 1 dmg – which I read to include Kastore himself (unless ‘different Returned’ actually means not Kastore, or Evasive negates?). If this action damaged friendly models (no healing generated from them obvs), it would have very strong usage with Black Blood models, easily justifying being a restricted master level action, but it does not. It could synergise with K Awakened’s Insatiable, however. The range of the pulse is large, it could potentially catch multiple models, but how many is likely/worth? Catching 3+ enemies and 2+ friendlies might cause potential damage and healing to justify the AP. However, as I read him, K Awakened is more of a mid-line (as opposed to front-line or back-line) piece, and his crew does not especially excel in bubble vs bubble situations. Thus, you are likely only catching 1-2 enemies, or else you have probably made a positioning error that this action is unlikely to influence. On paper, the occasions when valuably using AP on this, rather than another action (even walking or interacting), would seem limited. Causing the enemy to make several flips has the benefit of potentially wasting big cards from the fate deck (but may help them cycle their deck faster), or pressuring their hand to succeed failures. However, in a vacuum, the effect is not going to concern the enemy to commit cards. If the context is such that it working would be valuable, it is highly unreliable as the enemy might reasonably just pass the flip straight up, or else can expend a moderate resource which is likely worth it to them. What contexts might Bountiful Feast provide realistic value? Some thoughts: Late in the activation order: Enemy control hand likely to be depleted, increased likelihood of achieving desired effect. Heal friendly models for high value: Bring friendly Returned above Hard To Kill (Athorak, Blood Vessel). Trigger Faith in Flesh for re-position (potentially point scoring) – unlikely to over-heal late in the turn/game but Gwyll’s Cling To Death can force the effect through. However, low reliability bites again, depending on this for points or denial is a poor strategy. Could allow Kastore to trigger Insatiable for useful damage around himself (or preferably Marathine). I see this as the main use of Bountiful Feast. Opportunistic healing: Produce a tiny HP swing at the end of the turn ready to go into the next. Potential synergy with Final Preparations to pad the dmg taken from this high value ability. Let’s face it, if you are setting up FP you are doing it anyway and committing more reliable healing abilities to pull it off. Kill low health enemy(s) from slight range (or take them below Hard To Kill): Threaten kill without committing to a more vulnerable/non-scoring position. Highly unreliable - enemy might simply pass or be willing to cheat. In summary, to me this seems like an opportunistic ability for when you somehow don’t have anything better to do with your Master’s AP and can just casually toss it out. Considered generously, it is part of the ping dmg/heal layering of the crew. Considered uncharitable, this is a desperation move that you should avoid having to use. Either way, decidedly lack-luster. What have I missed?

  7. Kaeris's ability is responsible for the damage being suffered. Cf. attribution of kills: (That last sentence really should say "If a model is killed by another effect (such as resolution of the effects of a Condition or Hazardous Terrain), ..." It's still damage caused by the Burning Condition (for any effect which deals with damage by that condition), yeah. But, unlike most damage caused by Burning, it was caused by Kaeris. Just like Sonia Criid's Scorch the Soul action causes Burning Damage (which a model with Flameborne will reduce to 0) and if that damage kills the model, Sonia is responsible for it. Remember that there's no chain of responsibility when figuring out what caused something--If Model A causes Model B to damage Model C, Model B caused the damage, not Model A.

  11. Two spots have freed up. If anyone is interested, please let me know asap!
  12. Yes it does engage the model with flight. The flight model can take the disengage action to leave engagement, and generally needs to because it can't charge (it's engaged) and can't walk out of engagement. The up you go action can't be used so if that is the only option, the push distance won't be reduced. ( just like if you choose not to attack).
  13. A model with flight can be engaged by a model with up we go. It can't walk out of engagement. It can disengage, but the Up We Go model isn't able to attack them with anything to try and stop them.
  14. In part two of "Uncharted Waters," the crew of the Exploration Vessel Superior encounter a creature unlike anything they have seen before. HTTP://www.wyrd-games.net/news/2024/5/9/breachside-broadcast-tales-of-malifaux-171
  15. Kaeris is NOT the source of the damage, she just transfers it to someone else. Just like when using Misdirection resistence trigger. Switches one model to another for the condition to inflict damage. So it is still the Burning condition, and that means you can treat it for this instance that it's on the chosen model and not Kaeris. You can reduce it with Armor, Shielded, Soulstones, or you can even negate it with Flameborne and such. The funniest part is that you can still inflict dmg from this Burning conditon to models with Numbskull. Those models cannot gain conditions, but are not immune to dmg from them.
  16. Can a model with only Up We Go melee action engage an enemy with Flight? By defiinition it can, as it says: Every model has an engagement range based on the range of its longest (melee) Action. If an enemy model is within a friendly model’s engagement range and the friendly model has LoS to the enemy model, the friendly model is considered to be engaging the enemy model, and the enemy model is considered to be engaged by the friendly model. But Up We Go clearly states that a model cannot target another one with Flight. So does the engagement come to place? If so, can the engaging model do a disengaging strike? If not, does the one with flight trying to leave the engagement range do a Disengage action? (Not getting any slower, but still being unable to do any interact actions?)

  18. Heya Wyrdos! This week, Waldo’s taken up a bit of early morning meditation to try and help ease him into the day. He’s been somewhat successful, even if he gets distracted every few seconds and still has a healthy caffeine addiction… While we’re on the subject, let’s take a look at a new release who has most definitely mastered the art of perfecting mind and body: Banying Banying is a new Henchman for the Monk and Last Blossom Keywords. His Illusionary Strike has a respectable damage track, while the Shadow Clone defensive Trigger gives him admirable survivability. That said, the real draw of Banying is how he plays with Shadow Markers. Banying has a lot of ways to generate Shadow Markers which he can then convert into Sunless Self models thanks to his Mirrored Images Ability. One interesting thing about Banying is that depending on which Crew he is hired into, he has to focus on different resources. In a Monk Crew Banying will have easier access to Chi Tokens, but it will be harder to generate Shadow Markers. In a Last Blossom Crew, Shadow Markers will be more prevalent but Chi Tokens will be less common. Whichever Crew he joins, he’s a terror once he gets going, either burning Chi Tokens for big hits or utilizing Shadow Markers for Triggers like Shadow Shell Game and Shadow Pin. In Last Blossom In Last Blossom, Banying can fill a lot of roles. Ninja Vanish is one of the most exciting things on his card as it allows him a lot of positional flexibility. In a speed-based Encounter Ninja Vanish allows Banying to keep up with and protect Torakages. In a more damage-focused Encounter it allows him to appear in the center of an enemy Crew along with Ototo to bust heads. Being able to do either of these things makes it difficult for enemies to plan for where Banying will end up on a table. Outside of Ninja Vanish, Banying is an amazing way to get Shadow Markers out for Last Blossom models. Darkened Chi and Shadow Clone Drop Shadow Markers so it is easy for Banying to generate one to two Shadow Markers each Turn. He can also turn Shadow Markers into Sunless Self models with Mirrored Images. Turning a Shadow Marker into a Sunless Self protects it from enemy Marker removal and helps move them into position for effects such as the Unbury from Misaki Katanaka’s From Shadow Ability. In Monk In Monk, Banying is a self-sufficient threat. There’ll be fewer Shadow Markers on the table, but he’ll have more ways to generate Chi. This means he can lean into Illusionary Strike and its Triggers to damage opponents, but it doesn’t mean that he is without any access to Shadow Markers. Darkened Chi Drops a Shadow Marker as part of the Action, so hitting an enemy with Darkened Chi and then using the Dropped Shadow Marker for an Illusionary Strike lets Banying Attack an enemy with Illusionary Strike without moving, which is useful if he’s staying out of danger or holding down an area. Banying is also a very good model to combine with Thunder Archers in Monk Crews. Banying can run out ahead to set up Shadow Markers near enemies which will allow Thunder Archers to get the most out of their Shadow Pin Trigger. Sunless Self Sunless Self models do not follow the usual template for Minions. Thanks to Living Shadow they do not have Health and cannot be killed by opponents, but Living Shadow causes Sunless Self models to die at the end of their Activation. As they Drop a Shadow Marker when they die Sunless Self models are a very good way to get Shadow Markers on the table, but if you don’t want to wait for them to expire, Shadowy Reflection allows friendly models to treat the Sunless Self models as a Shadow Marker. Beyond being Shadow Markers, Summoned Sunless Self models are unique, as without Health they cannot be killed before they Activate. This means that Summoning Sunless Self models will not allow an opponent to kill them before they Activate to gain Activation control. While a player will generally not hire a Sunless Self due to Living Shadow, they are a cheap 2 Cost way to Drop a Shadow Marker Turn 1 which can be used for things like Ninja Vanish or From Shadow. In Last Blossom In Last Blossom Sunless Self models are a great way to protect Shadow Markers. Against a Crew that can remove Markers with Actions like Blow it to Hell or Lost Knowledge, turning a Shadow Marker into a Sunless Self keeps it safe. Oddly enough, Mindless helps here, as turning a Shadow Marker into a Sunless Self will not give the enemy any Pass Tokens. During their Activation, a Sunless Self is pretty useful. They can put out a little damage due to Shadow Strike, but the real fun is Wreathed in Shadow. Pushing Shadow Markers allows a Last Blossom Crew to reposition a misplaced Shadow Marker and is especially useful in Misaki Katanaka, Fractured as her Spreading Influence Ability has a habit of Dropping a lot of Shadow Markers in odd places. Even if there are no Shadow Markers to Push, Bolster Strength is a worthwhile Trigger, often worth Cheating a R to declare. In Monk In Monk Sunless Self models are generally going to be generated via Banying’s Mirrored Images Ability. As such, their main focus is to support Banying. This means that they’ll give Banying a place to teleport to, to punch from, or to escape to. If they’re not supporting Banying, Sunless Self models’ are cheap Activations. Sunless Self models get a lot of use out of General Actions like Charge or Assist. As they cannot be damaged and can move through enemy models, they are able to Charge enemy models that would otherwise be safe. They’re also good vectors for supportive General Actions like Slam or Assist, freeing up more expensive models to score. Finally, Sunless Self models are an interesting target for Shenlong, The Teacher’s Remember Your Training Trigger. As Sunless Self models die quickly, you’ll be able to put out the same Upgrade more often, which will allow friendly Monks to resolve their River’s Conflux Ability multiple times a game. The Black Blossoms box is available now, so head on over to your FLGS or the Wyrd webstore and get yourself a copy of Banying and his shadowy selves. Fractured Futures Week 3 The Fractured Futures global campaign continues this week, and there’s been quite a lot of progress! The trajectory of Nia's Fate is still up to you to decide. We saw a surge in points last week from Keywords that have been struggling a bit so far in the campaign; Bandit was the Keyword that received the most points, with a few others right behind. It's still anyone's game, and nothing will be settled until the campaign ends on May 31; there's still time to play and influence Nia's future. For those of you still undecided, here is some full artwork to influence your choice: If you’re looking for all the information about this campaign, check out the landing page here! Everyone at Wyrd has their own favorites (Kyle is rooting for Savage—we're worried he'll give us the cold shoulder for months if they don't win… just saying 😉) and it's great to see that enthusiasm reflected in the community!
  19. Reanimating the post: I'm going to play VonS as my first master, is this thread updated/still viable to study him?
  20. Thank you so much! Actually the owners of the shop where we are going to start the community are gifting me the rotten harvest of Von Schtook (I painted one of their walls and this is part of the pay lol), so Im starting with him and then Molly will be my second one probably! McM will wait, even because I dont like that much the first version and McM2 is too complex for a totally new player like me. So, Im going to focus on Von Schtook for now!
  21. Just wanting to confirm that for this event it will use clocks for timing - while over time there has been some back and forth about whether this is good or not for the community I want to ensure that my events divides the time evenly between each player. The full rules for using chess clocks will be in the rules pack that I will be publishing this week. The clocks will be provided by the venue but feel free to bring (and use) your own if you want to / prefer to.
  22. I think I have registered can you check please? Johnnyd6992 or john donaldson no idea how it appears lol

  25. Hello there ! Did not post anything lately, real life is taking a hefty toll on my painting time. Still, managed to finish these up. Next plans are to complete Returned kw, then I'll switch back to Nightmare crew for a funny little project I've had in mind for some time now :3
  26. Salvete! I got an interesting idea - Malifaux musical album, one song per a fraction. I am not a musician myself but I have some experience in poetry (not an English native speaker, but I do my best). So... Suno AI gave my some help with playing and singing while I wrote and redacted. Four songs are ready, four more are coming. There are Lynch, generic Guild, Kirai and generic Bayou boozer! Ace up the sleeve (Ten Thunders Song).mp3 Glory Of Red (The Guild Song).mp3 Ghost Of The Past (Resurrectionists Song).mp3 Born To Drink (Bayou Song).mp3
  27. Just a reminder for those who haven't yet done so, to pre-register on Bag o Tools as it really helps me out on the day. If anyone is having any issues, let me know. https://bag-o-tools.web.app/register In the meantime, enjoy this event poster featuring art by our very own Jamie Astbury which, once again, will feature as a raffle prize.
