lusciousmccabe
I have gotten stuck into some terrain building and haven't touched my Malifaux at all (unless you count slowly adding water effect to a 2 year old board)! Should reach a pause point in the next week and have time left to finish Hank McCoy, I mean Jekyll and Hyde, I mean, that werewolf fella who isn't a mimic in third Ed. 😀 Because terrain is never really finished and it's best to work at it when the motivation strikes!
Popular Post Viruk
@wobbly_goggy - nice paintjob. You could try taking pics using some kind of background, even a piece of paper. The way it is now, the mini kind of blends with what's in the back. @Athiko - Great work all around. I really like what you did with Carrion Effigy, the Osl adds a nice vibrant touch there. The Exorcists look very nice too, lovely blending on the cloaks though I'd add some dirt to the bottom there. @Purple Mist - that definitely looks intriguing. The thing about colorshift paints is that taking pics of minis painted with them is really hard as they work well when you rotate the mini and look at it from different angles. @Franchute - love the armor color, very nice, smooth highlights there and the weathering looks top notch too. The "dirty" metallics also work very well here. @Boomstick - nice productivity and some really epic conversions going on there @Polar43 - nice work on the gamin and I really like the way you've arranged terrain on such a small base. I also really like the vibrant skin tone you're using for your Gremlins. @Diddick - one again I have to admit that you're making these bright colors work really well on these minis. Two Myrandas bring me to 16 ss more this month, a total of 50 ss for April, more may come As always, more ppics on my blog: http://www.whatthefaux.net/2019/04/myranda-warning.html 17
Popular Post Nikodemus
Good show guys! Giving the grey a good beating I hit a motivational wall but in the past few days I powered through my pledge for this month. To cut the whining short, suffice to say all said 'n done it looks neat enough for my purposes despite the bumpy road along the way. I'm guessing black looks a bit out of whack because my camera can't handle black on white background so well. If late pledges are ok I'll sign up Manos the Risen (9 stones) for the final full week. He's been based and primed since this pic:
Popular Post prof_bycid
I am coming in really late this month. For April I am going to paint these 4 mushroom-beasts I printed this morning and put them on some hazardous terrain I will make. 11
Popular Post Stranglelove
Hi everybody! Feels like it's been a crazy month. Really glad for the long weekend, and it made me run out of excuses to finish my Kirai box set crew. Here they are! I also painted some zombies but haven't figured out their basing yet: Happy Easter, all! Looking forward to going through all the submissions this month.
Popular Post misterfinn
@Caedrus Claiming Bushwhacker #1 for 6SS. Could use some serious C&C on this, folks. It met all my goals: half the painting time I usually spend, higher contrast, less fiddly about the blends. Trying to differentiate skin, "camo", and base greens was a pain in the ass. There are some things I like and some things I don't. What works? What doesn't? Any places you see where I might be able to cut time, or where a few extra minutes would have made a big difference?
Franchute
@misterfinn Your gremlin is great. Since you want critiques, I'll try one. I'm wondering if it's not too much green between the skin of the little guy and the grass on top of his head. How would it be with autumn colors for the grass? I've also seen people using browns or pinks in the shadows of orc faces and ears. Maybe this trick would have brought some contrast. I'm not sure.
Gloomy
Wow haven't been online for a few days, some great work posted since then! @misterfinn Gremlin looks awesome, I'd be hard pressed to offer any criticism, maybe just what @Franchute said, try a different colour on the grass? but in all honesty looks great as is @Stranglelove Really nice looking crew, Love the basing especially and the rotten look of Ikiryo @Nikodemus Glad you powered through, those motivational walls can be crushing but its one of the great things about this group is that there's always motivation and inspiration to be found. The Tengu looks great, amazing detail on the feathers and the beak is awesome. @Viruk Those two Myrandas look great, especially like the work you've put in to the basing. Thanks also for your kind words, your right I will definitely add some dirt to bottom of my exorcists coats 1 2
Popular Post muraki
Been slow this month, so just finished another set of viks this weekend. I'm hoping to try and get some painted themed models to go with em, but we'll see how the next week shapes up. At least now I've gotten 44 points of pure viks. 11
Popular Post Franchute
@Caedrus I finished the Emberling for 3 stones. This puts me at 14 ss so far this month: My formerly Doom Ward Oxfordian Mage has been in the following state for about a year. Hopefully I'll finish him by the end of the month:

I suggest to take many and more shots changing lighting conditions and rotating the models. Then you can always select the best photos. Considering camera filters and effects offered by most common cells, pictures are always and anyway one possible reproduction of minis that live could be worst.... or sometime better. wobbly_goggy
Merris (6ss) painted! Not very well, but I really dislike the model. Not shown: shouting and swearing at it trying to take a decent picture (used white background, it was super washed out). ARGH! Shown: failing to take a decent picture, BUT She's DONE
Nikodemus
Late month wip: "White" is done. Tomorrow I'll smear some freehand over it. Don't even know the specifics yet. Probably the bog standard vine & flowers pattern.
Popular Post Caedrus
Caedrus, checking in! So, as expected, it's been a crazily busy month. So much so, in fact, that it's likely that I will only get one miniature painted. Fortunately, it turned out nicely, in my opinion. I gave myself a few objectives ion this miniature: To do better wet blending (mostly on the skin tones); Use a paint colour I've never used before (Scalecolor's SC-30, Red Leather). It's rather nice; and finally To paint the entire miniature with a Size 2 brush or larger. I did that! Every single bit of this miniature is painted with a Rosemary & Co. Series 33, Size 3. It had a pretty damn good tip on it! Anyway, here's my 9SS for the month. My Executioner! I wanted to do a dark figure, so that the eye would be drawn to his inexplicably-pristine weapons. I was pleased with how almost everything turned out. Literally, the only other thing I've achieved this month, painting-wise, is to go crazy with the airbrush to start on a few Guild-repaints, some flesh tone experiments, a green-stuff cushion, and to work on my proxy Hungering Darkness. Behold! These will all be finished soon...ish. I look forward to seeing what else this month brings, because what I've seen so far is magnificent! Keep putting pigment to plastic! Caedrus.

muraki
@Athiko those bases are great. I like the red in the empty spots, it'll make a partial fire team pop. @Caedrus cough... not all of us have been putting pigment to plastic this month, ha. <looks for more metal models> 1

Popular Post Viruk
Quick paintjob on these three for a buddy just to get them on the table, nothing fancy but they bring my total to 65 ss this month.
Popular Post Nikodemus
WIP Did freehand on front of his skirt. Backside blossoms are still wip. Need to add a few stripes to his sleeves (wife's idea) and finish painting rest of the mini. Coming along at a decent pace. And once the freehand+white is done, there's only small bits left. Or so I tell myself

misterfinn
@Franchute Dried or autumn colored grass is a great idea, thank you! I’ll give it a go on my next Bushwhacker. @Caedrus Great blending job on the torso (possibly the best I’ve seen you do!) and well-executed NMM tank & cuffs. The flat surfaces of the hand blades don’t look right to me. If you’ve got a highly reflective surface in that shape, I think your highlight/shade will be mostly flat color on upward- and downward-facing smooth surfaces that reflect only sky or only ground rather than perpendicular lines. Maybe someone with more NMM experience than mine can offer additional perspective/feedback.

Caedrus
@misterfinn: Sincere thanks for the feedback. I agree! I think that a SENMM effect for the downward facing (blade) segments would be most correct, mostly being a flat grey to reflect the stones. However, this piece was mostly a practice piece, so I'm not too concerned. But yeah, it's a fair critique! There's another error: The 'red sphere' effect within the golden NMM is also upside-down! The white-glint should probably be at the top! Technically, it depends on whether the red stuff is filling the space, or just red glass (which is how I've done it, but it's bugging me, so I might reverse it back!). As always, feedback and critiques (from all) are always welcome! Caedrus.
