Cardiff, Wales. Nothing banned or house rules.

Although each of us carries a grudge against at least one unit ...

Same story up in the midlands (Maelstrom and Portal clubs) nothing banned, nothing special, I agree that everyone in the UK (or the whole community) hates one unit or master in particular (I personally hate the Shikome/s).

I would never consider banning anything... Everything can be beaten, its about strategies not just killing people! although people trying to 'netlist' and play the 'best builds' is looked down upon, despite you can't really do that with MoFo

Honolulu, Hawaii: No banned models.

Our biggest house rule is that the entire terrain section of starting/setting up an encounter is more or less ignored primarily due to our current selection of terrain and partially due to the overall newness of our Malifaux group (few of us, not including me, were playing prior to Rising Powers).

Some players (due to the same newness/small collections and prior experience with other games) also self handicap by preselecting their crews, prior to strategy(and even opponent) selection, but that's not really a house rule.

There's also an opinion that playing against Hamelin is unfun (to the point of suffering Pandora's "Self Loathing" spell and wanting to shiv one's own face), though I doubt he'll actually get banned...

Long Island, New York

No bans, no house rules.

However, we're pretty laid back - we only have one NB player and he only plays Lilith and Zoraida. Most players think Jack Daw is broketastic (me included) and no one uses him.

Jack Daw Broken??

Wow. Just be glad your NB player doesn't use the Alp Bomb becuase Jack is quite balanced in comparison.(Played against both and Jack can be dealt with or avoided. So no exaggerations here.)

No bans or houserules in Hastings, UK

That said there's all of 4 of us, slowly getting a couple more showing interest, and we play for fun, so the Lilith player doesn't touch the full on grow list or Lilitu/Nekima lure shenanigans, i dont break out Pandora often (particularly not with Lilitu) unless someone literally asks for it

Montreal Quebec ( Gamersvault )

No official banned, or permanent house rulings.

We make a couple house rules, then post here for final ruling. Until officially overturned they stick.

No officials banning, but we have social banning. were if someone always brings the same over powered force we just don't play against them. Occasionally there is a guy from a suburb who comes in and might play 1 game in a full Saturday because he only plays overpowered cheese. Most other players try the cheese once then shelve it.

Alp Bombs, everyone gets one game with these before they realize the cheese.

Only 2 players play Colette, I'm one and the duet is fine in her list, but I admittedly am only pulling it out once in a while because I feel dirty, I have not seen anyone play duet in other lists.

Cantina Klub, Budapest, Hungary

No bans, no house rules.

I have to say that I like it this way, even though I hate to play against half the Neverborn masters, I hate house ruling even more... If somebody always takes the same cheesy list (e.g. Alp Bomb, FILTH) you can simply avoid playing him, but there is no reason to ban a model entirely. Fortunately our gaming club doesn't have any tryhards like that though.

Metro Detroit, MI

Nothing banned, and no house rules.

However, there are certain taboo kinda models/crews...JD, Hamelin, Dreamer, etc which don't really see use outside of tournaments. I still use JD with Kirai/Levi but I won't use Hamelin and Odin won't use Colette unless it's a tournament...in which case, prepare to cry, haha.

Dora the explora is is indeed.

Huh, my guess was starts with H and ends with Amelin, but they're both pretty equally unfun to play against.

Chesapeake, VA & Newport News, VA

No banned models. (Although there are some that people whine about occassionally)

The only house rule that I can think of is dealing with the number of pieces of 'special' terrain when setting up a board. To make things interesting, we allow one piece of special terrain for every player past the first. ie, if we're playing a 4 person game, 3 pieces of special terrain are allowed.

I can't believe that the Coryphee Duet got banned somewhere... in a recent game I had Seamus v Collette, I took in Taelor as my opponent has a history of taking such things... Turn one, Activate one, activate the other, dance together, move, end up in my deployment zone... Turn two, Taelor walks over, smacks the bejesus out of the duet. Melee expert strike again, smacks the bejesus out of the duet. Duet dead. Opponent left with jaw on table...

Rochester, NY. No Banned models, No house rules.

Also this deeply saddens me:

We've had a Dreamer player basically quit playing Malifaux because he felt bad playing this crew and realized how unfun it was for everyone else.

The way I read this is a player was driven from the game for playing the list he enjoyed. Were he a power-player or try hard he probably would not have quit.

For people complaining about alp bombs I can offer advice for ressers & outcasts but I don't play the other factions enough to contribute much but I will try:

Ressurectionists: Crooked men & Punk zombies are REALLY good at taking out a lot of alps all at once.

Outcasts: Try Freikorps specialist, Pere Ravage, stuffed pig bacon bomb, take a look at Sue & wait for him.

Arcanists: Snowstorm

Guild: Ryle

The strategy I have found that works is to bring blast or models who can take out multiple models in a single activation. Yes the alp bomb list hurts but it is entirely one dimensional. It has one trick & if you can stop it then enemy is utterly decimated. Also you can just spread out to minimize its effect.
