  1. Woot, gratz on the Masters wins Magic. Nice lists...though I still find the tot grow list to be too luck dependant (and by that I mean I have really bad luck with cards so I try to avoid things that rely too heavily on them haha). The 6 stolen list is pure awesome, I've used the same before with hilarious results (and not just for the slaughter ss factory). Ugh...2 dreamer crews, that's rough, though it looks like you came out alright haha.
  2. Hamelin can get VP just fine without making everything insignificant. He can also kill things very well...even if they are significant. The whole "insignificant" thing is just one aspect of Hamelin, and some Hamelin players tend to abuse it and use it to win games....which works until people figure out that insig isn't the end of the world.
  3. I love her avatar. The dramatic shift in crew focus that her avatar brings when she manifests can totally turn games. Her pure combat ability is slightly less, but the buffs she hands out to her crew can make her lower Ss minions even more of a threat. As has been mentioned, her ability to bury a model, and keep it buried with the help of Ss, is incredible if used correctly.
  4. I don't think its bad sportsmanship, but I do think it is a little cheese. The main issue I have with some of the objective strats like destroy evidence is that they've lost some of their original intent with the addition of certain game mechanics. It's no longer, "who can outmaneuver their way to their objectives" but has become "who can put the toughest model or terrain effect on the objective". Ok, so its in the rules, fair. However, I think the original intent of some of these strats was to out think and out play your opponent in order to accomplish your strats. When you start ice pillar-ing objectives or just parking tough models on them, then the game just turns into slaughter. Theres no thought in that. "Oh well I just pillar-ed their objectives / parked this defensive tank of a model on their objectives, so now I can just kill them!". That was always what was awesome about some of the strats, you had to play not only for the objectives, but for objective denial. Tactics like that take away from that balance and make the game less fun, imo. It's even more disheartening to see that its become such common practice. It's not just a dick move that some people do, its become the norm for certain strats...kinda sad about that.
  5. You don't need to pay the extra stone for out of faction, the ability that allows him to hire ht1's says "at no additional cost". Just like the hiring for Levi, Kirai, etc.
  6. I'll have to look up blight counters, haven't played him in a while but I feel like they might stay on, I think I had a similar debate once. Although I really don't play him to spread blight everywhere, I run him a little more ad hoc, but ill have to check.
  7. Yeah, I could try that, the idea I guess is that my 4ss models will be buffed to be much better than their cost. Uncontrollable, magic weapons, disrupt magic everywhere, and the big buff from Lj that makes them harder to hit when she avatars up. Therefore model count isn't as big of a deal.....in theoryfaux.
  8. I almost exclusively run the lacroix, and its still tough. What I try to do is cheat the terror flips for.models that are in a position to do the moat damage to the enemy, and allow the rest to fall back as necessary. It's sort of a "terror triage" that helps limit the effectiveness of terror and make them pay for preying on my horrible wp Haha.
  9. Haha, touche! I may try that with the hounds, but I do love that exorcist haha. I tried a variant of the list which inspired this one with 3 DMs and Santiago with no avatar. Worked pretty well at tabling a rasputina crew lol. @Brettqpublic Also, Odin and I play at Pandemonium in garden city. I'd imagine RIW probably has a more consistant following, but we have a core group of regulars up there, and we're usually up there on Mondays and Thursdays (me on Thursdays ha)
  10. So, list may be lacking in hitters, but this is what it looks like at 35ss. Lj - 7ss cache. - Avatar 2ss Sue 8ss Exorcist 6ss Death Marshal x2. 8ss Witchling Stalker x2. 8ss The idea is to keep the crew within the buff range of sue, Lj, and to a lesser extent the exorcist. With sues buffs and the buffs from Lj's avatar, your 4 Ss minions will be a massive thorn in your enemy's side. Add to that the fact that in most cases you can keep your opponents best minion buried for a better part of the game with Lj's avatar, it should be easy to swamp them with your cheap, buffed up minions. Keep in mind lady j is one of my "for fun" masters, and I'm not looking to win tournaments with lists like this, but I still like to win sometimes haha. Thoughts? Comments? Concerns?
  11. Objective wise collodi is much more maneuverable than hamelin and will be able to get his strats done rather easily. However surviving will be the issue. Irresistible lure will see his crew taken out rather quickly and the dolls will not be able to Target hamelin. Stitched are little threat as hamelin has high enough wp and can Ss his way out of gambles.
  12. Been a while since I've seen this post, but hey... Wolfgar, you say you are the defender when targeted by an action. A trigger, especially in this case is an aditional effect that may result from losing the duel against the initial action, assuming the appropriate suits have been met. Teddy, in the example, is the defender of a pipes strike, he failed the resist, and suffers damage, in addition, he mush pass this duel. Hamelin did not Target him with the duel, he targeted him with his pipes and the duel is a side effect.
  13. Agree 100%. Most of that was from a purely competitive standpoint. If you run up against a guild crew that isn't ready for levi then it will be a good game, but yes, austringers are lame as hell. You are correct about the play experience. If the fast crews stomp all over him (as we have seen some evidence of from magic's original posts) and than you have almost an entire faction that can put him at a disadvantage from the beginning than yes, he does become a bit of a bummer to play, unless you're against one of the 13 or so masters that he can match up to. 13 still isn't bad (that number is an estimate without henchmen included), but it depends on what your playgroup is. On collodi specifically, if.you can slow / stop the alpha, then levi can rip him apart, killing 3 dolls per.activation by himself and making SPAs out the arse. The problem is stopping that alpha strike reaching the waifs.
  14. I would agree with the synergy point. Outcasts as a faction have little. Gremlins and Hamelin have quite a bit within their own crews, but Viks have little real synergy, the mercs can be custom made to each situation, but have little real synergy between specific models besides the Korps. Levi only has real synergy with his creations and things he can give crows to like the Ss miner and Noir. Their strength, in tournaments, lies with the fact that your opponent never knows what's coming, because each master/crew operates completely different and need specific things to counter them. We also have one of the top 5 in Hamelin, so I wouldn't say that we come out that bad in the end. Levi was a top master in book 1, but the rise of super fast crews (dreamer, kirai, collodi, etc) sent him down into the middle ground. Hell, any guild.crew with 2 austringers will give him a lot of trouble. So barring those 6 crews, levi stacks up quite well against the other 60% or so of crews. Now, ill admit that I haven't used him with collodi yet to see how that works out, but I'm still a bit sceptical that it will make him THAT good.
  15. When playing at my friends house we usually just leave on the local rock station. When at a tournament or league night I usually play metal and or dubstep on the ol' ipod.
  16. Huh, I'm curious to know what you found complicated about infinity. Every game has its little complexities that require discussion and or a double check of the rule book. The core rules of malifaux are pretty simple, but as each minion has its own specific rules, there are a lot of combos and synergies to be found. There are also 20 unique masters over 5 factions, each work completely different. I wouldn't so much call the game complicated, but it can be a bit much to process for new players....I would say the game has more depth than others, but can be a bit rules bloated. That having been said, it is probably the most fun and rewarding game I've played, it just takes a bit longer to master than most.
  17. Prey is their downside. However, I still find them useful. You can either prey something weak, knowing it will likely die or be sacrificed, or prey something important, and make them sweat over it...essentially using it as a visual deterrent for them.
  18. I believe its one flip per model, that's how aSonnia's spell works, and its basically the same thing.
  19. Shikome are awesome with Marcus. In general I like to keep a 7-8ss cache with him. He's a good master, but sometimes you need those Ss not.only to keep him alive, but to make sure you're hitting for 6dg on his melee strikes. He tends to hoard Ss a bit (much like the other arcanist masters barring ramos).
  20. While I can see why you made him intentionally OP, this is essentially what I was receding to a while back when I made that post about the Near East making a presence in malifaux. Would be nice to see an assassin type mercenary character in the game that isn't a ninja.
  21. Staggering is really the only way to go IMO. Otherwise you're essentially giving any two models (including masters) companion on each team, every turn. Not exactly how the game is designed, and things will break down quickly. Certain combos shouldn't exist, thus why the game/crews/factions are the way they are. How we've always played 2's activations is that each player flips a card, the highest card flipped is the first activator, followed by the highest flipped on the other team, and then you alternate. So essentially, 4 players flip, but only the highest flip from each team really matters and then you alternate activations between teams. I haven't tried it with each player having their own strats/schemes, but it seems much more fun.
  22. Hmmm, I'll have to check later, I can't remember if that works or not...gut feeling says it does, but I'll have to read the card.
  23. You're used to playing Hamelin, who can compete with Dreamer on sheer cheeze factor alone. Levi is, unfortunately, not one of the "Top 5". His biggest problem when book 2 came out was the fact that Kirai, Colette, and Dreamer are all fast enough to get to his Waifs. Sadly, the Dreamer is probably the worst of the 3, because you might actually get a chance to respond or fight back with the other 2, but the dreamer will kill you and your waifs quick, just like you described. Honestly, I haven't found a way to beat a good dreamer player with Levi. You could try to block placement to waifs with other models (wont help against chompy himself with a 3" reach). Maybe try to take things that explode when they die and use them like land mines, idk. All of my experience against the dreamer with Levi was against a new player who didn't alpha strike with him, not so hard then. Maybe now that he has more experience and a Nightmare Edition, maybe he'll play him more so I can get some experience.
  24. Yeah, target should be nix for a shikome, against that list (or the Merc). IMO, though, Nix is important, and it forces the Hamelin player to deal with the shikome right away, instead of making it insig and ignoring it. Strange and interesting list there Korrova....oh look, a Hamelin list with no Rat Catchers...imagine that.
  25. Welcome! Glad to see another converted to Malifaux. Reckless can be used whenever, it is just like a free action you can declare at any point in that models activation. As for Sonnia, I would say she is rather middle of the road but I'm sure some guild players could give you more advice. Ortegas are a great crew for beginners, but the great thing about guild is that you can mix and match just about all of the guild range with any of the three female masters. So really its about picking the master you like best and building from there. Don't get Hung up on the starter boxes, they are a core and are based around the fluff for each master. Most of the time the models in the starters are great for that master, but in most cases there is much much more for.them to use, especially with guild. Hope this helps a little.
