  1. i might be a bit late with this but here it goes. first of all it all starts with both the players and the FM. as a player you should have basic knowledge of the game and know your character (!). even though some are perfectly good GM/FM/*M's, those same players SUCK at being a players just BECAUSE they are *M's. They want to compare and they should never do that. As a player 1 should know a couple of things: 1) Who am i and what do i want 2) how did i get here 3) most importantly what can i do, what are my skills (stat wise and role play wise) 4) just enjoy the story and play your character.. don't try to change up things or simply say. well thats a stupid mechanic.. the FM should know what its party is. TTB is a narrative oriented system and is in my opinion heavily player biased in combat. (i had a guy create an invested character with av7 in heavy melee with a greatsword that deals... 3/5/7? damage or so session 0) Comparing D&D with TTB..... is like comparing apples with a frigging steak. its both food, but there completely different in taste, texture and food group! I had 1 guy kicked out of my campaign after 12 sessions.. because he kept on moaning about the system. he could not get his head arround that he could not roll dice, that in D&D there was this mechanic. and that he thought it was BS to switch between "classes". as stated by many above. its a different kind of game. The mechanics are hard to grasp IF you are stuck with D20-D100 system in your head and think every RPG is a dungeon crawler or combat oriented game. + 1 extra FM thing. IF somehow you as a GM screw up BIG time, and make a fight WAY to hard. give them an extra nudge. Malifaux is world filled with Magic and monsters/creatures. if you made it to hard. Do a bit of a divine intervention and let a random NPC/Creature/spirit/.... apear to help them. something that works with the story of 1 of your players
  2. FMC characters are here to create story, the stats a certain character has is here to help you tell that story. A revenant NPC boss is the kind of enemy you want over multiple sessions. Have them kill the character. make him/her return in the next session alive, players go crazy and will have to find out HOW?! if your players find a way to block the revenant. and they worked really hard for it, let them have "the kill/victory" my 2 cents

  8. also, what i do (and i think it is supposed to be this way) boss battles, like a strong enforcer at the end of a session, hencman, or master. won't die from the burning damage, you still have to do a damage flip in order to kill them (trivial perhaps but this will make that boss battles will tend to be a bit longer) cheers

  17. hi all! just wanted to post this small session i have prepped for my party. NOTE: THIS IS NOT A RECAP NOR A COMPLETE SESSION THIS IS JUST SOME NOTES! i post them here so maybe some of you can use them for yourself. the setting right now: after following a nasty necromancer that has some problems with someone from the party, they found his hideout. after some prepping they are ready to engage, thinking they will be able to kill him. the party consists of 5 people but for this session i will give you a small background of 1 of them Luke Stevenson, born in an administrator family as the first child. he also has a smaller sister that inherited the brains of her parents. Luke not so much.. more a brawny kind of guy, so hi became a bouncer in this underground saloon thingy, the nighthawk, after a nasty event that ended in a guy pulling a knife to kill someone and Luke tried to stop him bit killed him while doing so, Luke ran away to Malifaux with his baby sister. thinking he is safe. well. he was.. for now.. my notes for my session are these: Nathaniel (Nate) Cobb: Smart, Agile, very fast but very skinny for a bouncer. Although of the 2 Cobb brothers he is the most dangerous it seems. since his younger brother listens to what Nate has to say. Expert in martial arts en knows his way with knives. Nickname: Snakey Nate, whether this is because of his fighting techniques or his big Snake Tattoo on his body? you don't want to find out. 10 wds, bend as the willow (+ on defense). 2 card points df: 8(18) 2/4/5 damage + attack, Stunning (c)Hobbling attack: gains slow AV: 8(18) 2/3/5 folded steel, concealed blade. tubed -> bleeding out. ignores armour when used if target cannot dodge or is grappled Joe Cobb, 2m15, of pure muscle. used to be a colleague of Luke. capable of killing an ox with his fists with a skull crushing blow. know in the bussiness as a bouncer for taking 5 union members at once and throwing them out of the saloon. His nickname: Iron fists Joe 12 wds: hard to wound 2 card points df: 6(16) 2/3/6 + and + damage, Snaring AV: 8(18) (m) skull crushing blow: immediately take a consciousness (toughness) check at TN 15. grapling attack AV8 (18) rst: Def. gain grappled condition(, TN 18 Might(double might) check to get out, when failing: paralyzed Gerardo Lawrence, former owner of the saloon "the NightHawk", boss of the brothers Cobb and former boss of Luke. went after Luke bfor thrashing his entire club during a fight and want Luke to pay his debt to him. A person with an enormous amount of money and influence. he needs a new place to do some bussiness. shady bussiness. Black market stuff, soulstones, trinkets, opium and other drugs, etc. while Luke was out doing his stuff, he kidnapped Selene. right now he is hiding at the slums. Nate and Joe will attack Luke when he is alone (probably while enjoying some females or when he is wandering arround the salloon) and tell him that Gerardo needs some things done. if Luke says no, they will say that if he refuses, Selene will die. who is at this very moment in chains at Gerardo's. these are the things he has to do: Capture Quinn Keating, someone on the black market in the slums. · chase: rifle/pistol/melee on leg! if he dies=fail! · skills: athletics, track, wilderness, intimidate, notice, stealth · TN: 10: 6 margins of succes. · fails at 3 margins of failure Cecelia Horton, Owner of a well named Club/saloon, She needs to be disposed of. but make it look like an accident! no unwanted attention! · skills: Engineering, Explosives, alchemistry, Labour, Athletics, forgery, gambling, music · TN 12: 6 margins of succes · fails at 3 margins of failure In the little Kingdom there is an opium den that is currently low on resources and people. break in and steal the opium. · skills: Athletics, Stealth, Notice, Alchemistry, Doctor, acrobatics, lockpicking. music. · TN 14: 4 Margins of succes. · fails at 2 margins of failure if the party succeeds. selene is released, shocked, but alive. altough this is far from over. If 1 fails. Luke WILL pay. Selene will be held captive and luke will have to pay his debt to them in another way. If Luke want to attack Gerardo at his place. he will face the Cobb brothers + 5 Wastrels at the enforcer level + 2 hunter constructs at enforcer level and 1 peackeeper at the enforcer level. + Gerardo himself at Master Level, altough no one ever saw him participate in fight in person but the cobb brothers have an amount of respect and "fear" of him. a respect that cannot be achieved with money alone. cheers!
  18. don't forget that anyone, every player/person has magic. its just that the guild wants to control the strong magic users, dabblers, greve diggers etc, tinkerers.. not so much. as long as the contrsucts they are building are for the guild

  20. if a scrapper get punched in the face no. since the scrapper is doing a Def duel and not a close combat duel (as in close combat skill) that would be my interpretation
  21. ^what hey said just take a chr you know (or make one if you want a personal touch) and up his stats a bit. maybe by saying +5 aspects and + 25 XP to use aaaaand GO! and for spells. take 3 spells created like manifested powers and if you want your "big bad" to have a certain.. "bond" with the party. use a background story. example: i have in my party someone who wrote a story about how his wife and child got murdered and he seeks vengeance. the serial killer (Jack) fled to Malifaux. 10 sessions into the game and already glimpsing Jack once before he fled into the sewers. rumours have been buzzing that Jack is Back. a powerfull necromancer now. the party (and that guy especially) want him DEAD!!! they are already plotting things to find and kill him.
  22. this. also people that want to come to Malifaux usually have to pay with all the money the have (including selling their house) unless you are so damn wealthy (and have connections) to just buy a ticket. getting back to earth is probably not as easy or cheap as you might think except when you are 10T and such

  25. i really love this! and i would love to use this (and give credit where credit is due) BUT! 1 of my players just became a death marshal so i presume this would be kinda.. well.. sending him to die
