JPowah round 1 osl challenge
Zatch commented on Jpowah's gallery image in Round 1 [Object Source Lighting (OSL)] - Finished
Hey Jpowah I am giving some comments on what I see. I hope you pass it along to others as you can. The good: The OSL signing onto the figure and the bones is really well done, really smooth and subtle. the land scaping on the base and the lava effects are really well done Constructive Criticism: doing liquid effects in landscaping can be hard, using materials like realistic water effects or woodland scenic can give you a really glossy finish which causes glare in photos, just something to watch out for. your main figure needs more highlights and lowlights, the headpiece and face are big focus points and they don't have a lot color variation. even something as simple as dirtying up some places would bring some more detail to the figure. good luck next round! -
Iron Painter Round 1 - OSL: Illuminated
Zatch commented on mrcoblin's gallery image in Round 1 [Object Source Lighting (OSL)] - Finished
Hey mrcoblin I am giving some comments on what I see. I hope you pass it along to others as you can. The good: The aesthetic of the piece was great. the color choices and the use of muscle toning and highlights/lowlights really brings the piece to life Constructive Criticism: I didn't see much OSL in this piece, I assume the purple on the mans face/shoulders is the OSL and it looks a lot like decaying flesh from being devoured. Showing all the detail of your mini with multiple pictures is nice, but when you use too many photos it takes away from the collage as a whole. I would pick two or three strategic photo angles to really highlight your submission good luck next round! -
Little Red hiding from the Big Bad Wolf
Zatch commented on scott-42's gallery image in Round 1 [Object Source Lighting (OSL)] - Finished
Hey scott-42 I am giving some comments on what I see. I hope you pass it along to others as you can. The good: The wolf looks awesome! the fur work and the eyes seem to have life to them. the landscaping of the wall and dirt and rubble and fallen tree is really nice. the glazing you used for the OSL on the rocks is really nice the way you made the light source really pop against Red is good, you can really tell what the source light is. Constructive Criticism: The whole piece is a bit to bright. the only way I know the rocks are lit is because the yellow glaze. The wold and the back side of the wall should be darker or more subdued. the OSL layers on Red herself is a bit to harsh, I would look into ways to make your fades and transitions a little smoother. watering down your paints more is one way that is brought up a lot, but there are other methods such as two brush blending that work just as well if not better. Red looks like the undertaker, I know doing eyes are really hard, but even just a hit of a pupil/iris helps. the pupils on the wolf really brings the character to life. good luck next round! -
Arcane Effigy Iron Painter Round 1
Zatch commented on dragonkey's gallery image in Round 1 [Object Source Lighting (OSL)] - Finished
Hey dragonkey, I'm tossing some comments your way on what I saw in your figure. hope you can do the same The good: the detail in the books and candles and face is really good I like the sculpt on the fire on the base the backdrop is on point! Constructive Criticism: The OSL yellow on this is very heavy in small areas, it didn't transition well. this makes it look almost like it is part of the clothing as opposed to a glow from the candles. the sculpted fire on the bottom needed a little more orange like the candles had. The submission itself has a few too many photos, it is good to give different angles of your piece especially when the detail is there, but when there is too much going on it is hard to focus in on the piece. good luck next round! -
