Hey scott-42 I am giving some comments on what I see. I hope you pass it along to others as you can.

The good:

  • The wolf looks awesome! the fur work and the eyes seem to have life to them.
  • the landscaping of the wall and dirt and rubble and fallen tree is really nice.
  • the glazing you used for the OSL on the rocks is really nice
  • the way you made the light source really pop against Red is good, you can really tell what the source light is.

Constructive Criticism:

  • The whole piece is a bit to bright. the only way I know the rocks are lit is because the yellow glaze. The wold and the back side of the wall should be darker or more subdued.
  • the OSL layers on Red herself is a bit to harsh, I would look into ways to make your fades and transitions a little smoother. watering down your paints more is one way that is brought up a lot, but there are other methods such as two brush blending that work just as well if not better.
  • Red looks like the undertaker, I know doing eyes are really hard, but even just a hit of a pupil/iris helps. the pupils on the wolf really brings the character to life.

good luck next round!

I loved the wolf, although the mold line up the arm makes me twitchy.  With Fur you can often break that up and hide it if you cannot get rid of it completely. And all the basing work adds a lot. I think a Black Background would have helped you. I expected Kingdom Death figures but This one told a nice surprising story.  Love Reds skin tone with the light glow. But it did not seem you applied OSL using the same technique thru-out.  the layered on the clothes looks very different than the application on the rocks.  Rocks almost looks like moss, has the same intensity regardless of distance. I would think that between her legs would be as intense as the clothes, more yellow.
