Wanted: A Boy Named Sue info

So i lurked through the "Book 3 Info" thread and found this badboy named Sue.

I am a huge Johnny Cash fan and i really love the use of his song names.

From what i see one ability is called "Walk the line", how are the others called?

And what does he do in general?

I mean, he has a pimp glowing guitare on his back!

Even if i don't know what he does, or how his model will look like, i have to say that this is arguably my favorite minion concept yet

He is named Sue, and He's basically a more expensive convict gunslinger with a flaming 6 string on his back...yeah I'll be getting him. He also has cool stuff like shrug off and can hand out burning counters, so will likely find his way as a merc in some Kaeris lists.

Tread the Line- makes friendly models immune to being controlled by any means in an 8" Aura.

Circle of Fire- 2" Aura that does dg to those entering it and gives a burning counter...with a trigger Rising Higher that increases it's dg.

He's also got quite a bit of utility. He can force enemy casters near him to take a , draw you extra cards at the cost of wounds, or boost your crew's Wp. To me, it seems like you want to wade into melee with him, create your "Circle of Flames," and then shoot anything and everything.

I'm desperately trying to come up with a list that would use him, but I'm actually having difficulty. 7ss cost means there are better choices out there for Kaeris in terms of cost effectiveness (aka, Gunsmith)...who got quite a bit of love in book 3.

Yeah, despite missing family he is not a bad add on to any gun line list. He isn't bad with Ortegas either.

I hate to have to say something negative thing about him but here goes (I am a huge fan of all things johnny cash).

I just got threw looking at a mate's book tonight and he has a specfic rule (name don't know offhand at the moment) but it state's that you cannot include him in any crew that has "ruthless" models in it.

This to me was a big let down. Basically anyone can play him (theoretically) but the crews most apt to want to include him (to name the three that came to mind looking at him were sonnia, kaeris, and viks) well two of them because of this got shot down hard.

I am under the impression while he does benefit viks and kaeris this rule more or less excludes him in all but the most casual situations (arcane gunsmith's imho are better for kaeris, and would you rather have him or von schil in a vik's list). Granted I understand everyone one has their own opinion and is entitled to one but this to me was just heartbreaking. 2 of the 3 crews most likely to take him you have to handicap yourself pretty hard to take him (imho) maybe perdita might think to take him but idk really about that.

With the way it is as it stands currently he might just be better off having been a guild model due to about the only model that can take him and not be negatively impacted for doing so (kaeris most imho I just don't really see why that rule was included). I like the picture art but in all reality from my viewpoint I would hope that the specific rule that makes him pretty much unusable by kaeris would be changed.

Granted I understand that it could be really early to make this assumption/viewpoint and I have not played one game with him yet so you could take what I say with a hell of alot of salt with it but it kinda was a downer to me that twoof the three types of crews he would theoriticaly work best with has to not take one of the more important models (my opinion).

I will admit he seems to be a really cool model and I love the fluff on him and such (damn ring of fire and I walk the line trademarks lol). But sadly in my opinion I could really only see him getting used in a sonnia crew often when he comes out due to his restriction rule (as I read it maybe in just glancing at the rule I misread it or maybe it hopefully is a misprint).

Yeah, uh...can we get a fix on his card for this one? "Hey, lets make a Merc that can't be used with the other good Mercs, good idea!" Absolutely retarded. I can see having to choose between him and a Convict...but choosing between him and Von Schill/Librarian...well, not a choice at all really. Why is he even an outcast model? The only group in Outcasts that can use him in faction is the Mercs...and he can't be used with Von Schill or the convict...who make it into a LOT (I'll even say most...hell 90% even) of Merc lists.

I really think they need to drop that damn ability...or have it read "More than one" and not "One or More"...that way he could be used with Schill, but you'd have to make the choice between Sue or a Convict/Specialist(? I think they have it too?), but might still prevent him from being taken in specific out of faction crews; or make an exception saying he can always be hired by crews containing Viks or something to override his restrictions via von schill.

I read this today, and it literally almost single handedly ruined my day...close, but then I realized it's a game...still very disappointed with this one.

why: i don't own any Freikorps up to date ^^ and Malifaux for me is not: making it hell-o-killy 100% maximum effectiveness lists.

It's more about playing with great models and if he's only half the artwork i'll be a damn happy litte fella when he hits shelfs...

Don't get me wrong mate I will purchase him and I like the model. But the truly sad thing too me is him only being used in 1 of the 3-4 crews I use with any regularity (I intend to pick up Kaeris as well but because of the rule I don't think I could use him in them either and she most of all other than sonnia has the most synergy with him).

So you can't take him in a Freikorps crew? I can't take Teddy in my Perdita crew - the game is built around crew restrictions.

If you want Sue in a Viks crew, just don't bring Von Schill or the Convict - variety is the spice of life after all.

I have to completely disagree with you on this one. In my opinion, the 'no rutheless' rule is what makes him such a fantastic addition to the merc line up.

Everything I've heard about the Viks since book 2 was that Von Schill, the Convict 'slinger and/or the Librarian were practically mandatory. Now with Sue, we have a viable alternative to Von Schill that isn't going to make players feel like they're handicapping themselves by not taking those above models.

In my mind, Sue is a merc that forces players to actually make a hard decision about what to take in their crews. In turn, it creates some variety between crews and reduces the chance of seeing the same selection of minions in a given crew every damn time you play with/against them.

In short: less no-brainer choices = a much better game.

Hold on a sec... isn't Kaeris restricted to M&SU members and Special Forces - Arcanist Assets? Unless Sue is one of those, Kaeris won't be able to take him anyway unless another Arcanist Master is leading the crew.

Yep, you're right. But I like using Kaeris in lists with Ramos or Raspy, so I could see squeezing in Sue in those lists. I would use a Gunsmith from time to time in those lists as well, so for, what, 2 points more, you get basically a Gunsmith, but something to help with Burning Tokens as well.

I agree with Mike3838 on this one. I'd rather have the pieces give me choices, things to work around. FWIW, I didn't even own a Convict Gunslinger until I got Miss Demeanor this weekend. So you don't NEED one to run a Viks crew, and I've played without Von Schill plenty of times as well.

I don't personally give a s**t about the "variety" and "making choices", I can find enough other ways to do that without being forced into it. He's a Merc, and should be able to be used as such, bottom line, and that statement is purely your opinion. What's the point of making him an outcast if you can't use him with their best models. He is NOT worth the value of the 3+ other models with ruthless.

I generally don't use Convicts with Viktoria, and she works perfectly fine without Von-Schill. He is definitely an option, he has skills that Viktoria needs in some match ups but not all.

I agree if you were to have a static list then yes you will not use him, but that is not how the game is played. Malifaux isn't a static list game. If I think I need the stuff he gives in a match then I will have to find alternatives to Von-Schill, it's not like there are at least 3 or 4 new choices in Twisting Fate that can go with him.

And this is "purely your opinion" as well. Everybody has different feelings about stuff man. No need to get so worked up about it. Honestly, my opinion is that I would rather have to make tough choices about my crew makeup, rather than just stuff every well-costed piece into one crew together. I don't want to play against the exact same crew every time I see Viks/Von Schill across the table from me.
