  1. Really! Ah ha! I was thinking I was missing something fundamental. Thanks. That opens up a world of possibilies for them
  2. I apologise if this seems like a silly question and I'm probably missing something obvious but I'm struggling to see how to take advantage of the speed bonus to Guild Hounds. I activate 1 hound and companion the 2nd so that he can activate as soon as I finish with the 1st. I start with them 3" apart so my 1st hound is able to move 18". The 2nd hound then goes but... he's not activating within 3" of his partner, so a) limited options because he cant use his abilities and he gets only 12 inches of movement due to not getting the free walk. Is this right? I'm guessing I'm not but dont see what I'm misunderstanding. I have to note that in the 2 games I've played with them however, despite (maybe) getting this wrong they have still proved awesome and I'm buying 2 more tonight! Thanks
  3. So I get another game in with Lucius, this time at 25ss with a 2nd Austringer. My Oppoent running Raspy with totem, Golumn, Acolyte and Gamin (no Snowstorm) Things go very well for me. Though I lose an Austringer to getting one-shotted by the Acolyte my massed gunline just blows the Gamin to pieces and takes the Acolyte down hard after he's done his damage. My Guild Hounds are increadible hunting down the totem and eventually taking Raspy out in assault. But not before she gets to go postal on Lucius. Thankfully the negetive flip from Highest Authority in the land keepos him from taking any damage at all (though it cost me a soul stone). Unfortunatly we are pretty much playing for schemes as the main objective of the game is Carver (were playing the Helloween special mission) and we both plan on just staying away from him (I did 7 wounds to him though). We Grudge/frame for murder the same model so its all on 1 scheme and while I get mine easily I make an error in misunderstanding what terrain piece he needs to interact with for his scheme and allow his Golum to walk right up to it... So while dominating the game we end on a tie lol. I have to say I'm really liking Guild Hounds, they are just so fast they can zip around hunting objectives or making flank moves to go after weaker model. Thier better than I expected in a fight too. Getting my 2nd Austringer one shotted turn 1 though was a pain. The one Austringer did so well I wish my 2nd had survived a little longer lol. So bumping to 30ss I am thinking of adding Lady J and losing the 2nd Austringer again. That said that 2nd Austringer... maybe I could lose the Hounds... but... My opponent will probably be Guild this time... Thoughts?
  4. Yup, nice bases actually but a little too piratical for a Colette crew I think. I'll be going with Base-ix at the end of the month.
  5. What do you guys think about these: http://www.warcaststudios.com/home?page=shop.browse&category_id=23 How do you think they compare to the Back to Base-ix? I'm on the fence...
  6. I'm building a Lucius list within an escalation league I'm playing in. So far were at 25 soul stones and I'm running Lucius with 2 Austringers and Guards switching out a guard for 2 hounds when the opponent and objective warrent it. As I expand to 30-35ss's I'm looking to add in Lady J and perhaps a Lawyer per the discussion in another thread here, or just go with more Guards. The question is should I consider pushing to get the Lady J Avatar as soon as it's released (hoping next month). It'd be real tight getting it (assuming a cooperative release date), assembling, basing and painting in time for it to impact this league so I'm wondering if its worth that push? Or would you just concentrate on the regular Lady J and Lucius combination?
  7. So I never got my 2nd Austringer but am pretty much ready with the 7 model Lucius crew listed above. My 1st opponent (friend of mine) will be running McMourning with Sebastian, a Belle, maybe a crooked man, some dogs and the Chihuahua.... He'll no doubt through some shenanigans get his Flesh Construct out turn 1 and I'm thinking I'll have a tough time dealing with that. I'm not overly confident agianst this matchup frankly but dont want to be too fatalistic. Any tips or tactical suggestions that might help me out? EDIT: Given what I'm facing would I be better considering trading the two Hounds and my soulstones for Ryle and a 0 ss cache?
  8. Okay thanks, just curious and sorry for any percieved thread jacking. I have no experience of any of the games in the OP but do have an interest in Helldorado. I just thought, based on the spirit of the OP, a brief review of Dark Age might be welcome as it runs in the same pack.
  9. I can get the non pluck battlefoam sheets but the Pack 720 comes filled with pluck foam... the Warmachine bag comes filled with nicely segmented precut trays but for the same price is 2/3rds the size and the Malifaux bag is probably the nicest and 50% the price but only has the one tray that will fit anything 40mm plus and its pluck. All three have positives and negetives
  10. Okay so I have a Battlefoam Malifaux bag but have basically filled it up. Having expanded my models organically rather than with any set plan my "pluck-fu" in the 50mm tray was not the most efficient and I have every precut segment filled with something. At this point I am looking at my expansion options. a) Get a 2nd Malifaux bag. Advantages of this would be interchangability of foam sheets between bags. I could buy extra pluck sheets etc. I like the look of the Malifaux bag. Cheapest option at 50% alternate options $ costs. Warmachine Bag. This would give me room for my 35 point Warmachine Khador army, some Dark Age models, and overflow for my Malifaux stuff (giving me great multi tasking for transporting several options to the LGS each week) with plenty of larger pre cut segments to put 40 and 50mm models into. With the Riders, Avatars, Ashes and Dust, etc all on my shopping list I am not certain that a 2nd Malifaux bad would really cut it in the long run with just the one 50mm pluck sheet, perhaps I need the amount of larger segments that a Warmachine bag would bring. It is 2x the price of a Malifaux bag though and has Warmachine (a game I'm not as enthusiastic about) on the bag. c) Pack 720. This is the same price as a Warmachine bag but 50% bigger (wider). However has far less efficient pockets and comes with all pluck foam which I am not so happy with. So any words of wisdom? I would add that while there are several very good alternatives to battlefoam, I already have a number of Sabol bags but dont really want to go that route for the Malifaux models (I use Sabol for all other wargames). To the rest, I would rather purchase from our LGS than order on line so its Sabol or Battlefoam only. Anyway thanks for any commentary.
  11. You guys didn't ask for it, but have you checked out Cool mini or Not's Dark Age: Apocalypse? It's set post apocalypse with a "Book of Eli" meets "Mad Max" feel though set on an alien world so in addition to all the humans you have indigenous aliens, etc. A mid way point between Warmachine and Malifaux its a skirmish game, closer to Faux in model count but more like Warmachine in its straight up playstyle as opposed to combo's and synergies. Using a D20 roll low (lower is always better) with 1's and 20's being crit successess and fails respectivly. An alternating activation and AP based system it has some shooting but certainly favors assault with fast moving models and brutal combat that has you rapidly peeling models giving the game a very fast paced bloody feel. Attractive models (for the most part, though I have heard opinions vary) and a variety of factions that are balanced but come with thier own flavors I think its a pretty solid game. Starter boxes are $40-60 and come with around 300 points, a full "tournament" game being 500 points. We've been enjoying playing it recently and while I personally prefer Malifaux I would give it 4 to Malifaux's 5.
  12. Fantastic pictures. Thanks guy's, your really insiring me! Redcoat color scheme it is
  13. What combination are you refering to here?
  14. Great any pics? I'll have to start looking around for examples to work off!
  15. Thanks. I'm limited in my options right now as while (despite having very limited experience) I have most of the Neverborn Models and most variation of Viks and Levi lists I could come up with I wanted to kick of this league playing something different so went with Lucius. This though means I am limited by both available models and available painted models! At higher SS levels I'll add the option of Lady J as a master and maybe switching out Guardsmen for Death Marshals but I want to ultimatly work towards an Avatar Lady J list with Lucius and a larger number of weaker models to benefit from her Avatar perks, with the option to switch out a few tougher models if the objectives demand it. Thats the plan anyway. As to the questions, I'm not sure how best to answer them but I'll think on it thanks.
  16. I was thinking, rather than painting up Lucius and the Guild Guard in the standard colors of grey's and browns to paint them up in the classic British Redcoat colors... Do you think this would a) fit with Malifuax's theme and look good?
  17. Okay so as a followup to my last post I now have a bunch of models Here is the list I'll be kicking off our league playing. Do you think it will stand up to other possible 20ss lists and where do you think I'll have problems outside of my own lack of experience? Lucius (2ss) Drill Sgt Austringer 2 Guild Guards 2 Guild Hounds I would will drop the hounds for a 2nd Austringer and 3rd stone if he arrives (still on order) and can be painted in time. I do have a couple of other models and can switch out the Hounds for a 3rd Guardsman if the objectives dont call for fast scoring units. When the league gets up to 30ss I will include the Guard Captain or Ryle.
  18. Wow lots of responces! Thanks. Yes I could make yself but I am really inept, picky and lazy a combination that drives me to consider resin bases over putting in the effort myself lol. Microart make great bases, but the pile of timber look is really not what I was looking for, more woodern stage floor. The back-to-base people though have some really nice bases. Shipping is costly from Australia, but the basic bases come in at reasonable prices. Anyone from the US ordered from them before?
  19. So I see pictures such as the official models of the Colette crew on wooden bases. These are not the Orphanage bases and I cant find anything like them online. Anyone have any idea where I can get similar wooden flooring bases or base inserts? Thanks
  20. The 3rd option is a competitive game where nothing is at stake and both players are just looking for the challenge. They play lists that are on an equal footing and even though playing "to win" the losing player still had fun because it was a close nail biter and he came within ... of pulling out the win. This is also not served by a lack of balance.
  21. All sounds great! So I picked up the Lucius box last night thanks to all the advice here. The store was out of stock of the rest of the stuff but I have on order so hope to pick up 2 Astringers, Drill Sgt and more Guards before the end of the month. Lady J (I'll use the alt model) and her Avatar can wait until release obviously but it should take a while for the league to get up to that kind of larger point games.
  22. The more I consider it I'm thinking that Lucius, Drill Sgt, Austringer, Guard Captain and 2 Guards make a reasonable 20ss list. Taken up to 35ss though I'd have to go with Lady J rather than Sonia to keep the theme going and run with: Lady J (with avatar manifesting asap) Drill Sgt Austringer Guard Captain 3 Guards 2 Hounds While perhaps not the best list to run at a tournament specifically I think its a fun and workable list for something like league play (especially as the two scale with similar models. Yes though in more serious play I'd want some extra models to swap in to tailor slightly more specifically depending on mission and opponent.
  23. Which brings me back to my initial question. How challenging? Are we talking it's challenging like a hike up a steep hill, or challenging like trying to stop a shotgun shot to the face by picking the pellets out of the air with your teeth? I'm thinking that at a low ss level Lucius brings a hefty advantage in numbers of cheap models which he can buff to make effective making him the better choice than for example Lilith who at say 20ss can only bring a small number of models and most of her best ones are left at home. At a higher points level (in the mature stages of an escalation league) he's going to probably suffer the downsides of other henchmen such as Von Schill in that your opponent is playing with big guns while your using the same guns you were at 20ss just maybe a couple more. Here I'm thinking you tac on Lady J or Sonia, maybe bring on the Judge or Sameal and shift the focus of the list if necessary. Is this an accurate assessment or are you saying that Lucius is going to be a bad choice unless I'm looking to really make life hard for myself?
  24. That sounds like it would be true of every crew in the game! It's certainly my experience with my gamer ADD and inability to focus on any one crew... Still I mentioned not being ultra competitive, I dont play tournaments and am not looking for the easy win button. Equally though I dont want to go into even a friendly game with my hands tied behind my back! So I have crews people would say are great, Pandora, Collodi, Viks, etc all tournament staples, however a bunch of Guards sounds really fun and fluffy (assuming I dont just get rolled game after game because I'm combining unfamiliarity with underpowered) especially at low ss games.
