Popular Post TimH
Lady Yume completed. she continues with two themes for me this month. Theme 1. Greenstuffing gaps (not sure how I managed this but there was about a 2mm gap in the top of her heair and along one of her arms, no idea how I failed to notice that during assembly) and theme 2, using purple in skin tones. Not shown here is a Norse team for bloodbowl that I spent some of my hobby time on this month, at present it isn't completed but it is where I went to experiment with the purple skin hues after I was done with the Geryons. Will share some photos once that project is done. For Yume I'm a big fan of the official paint scheme but wanted to make it look like she is emerging from a pool of blood as opposed to the shadow portal thing. Extended the edges of her base effect to cover the entirity of the base with some greenstuff.

For a one day job, that looks amazing. I've managed to earn back my mulligan from last month by adding in the Fae master, The Queen herself. Here is Titania for 15 more SS. I took one photo with the white background and one with the black... and personal preference leans me more toward the white background. I feel like you can see more of the details clearly. But that might also be my terrible cameramanship What do you think? PS - the base is part of my new 3d printing adventure. I am really happy with the results so far. Thank you! It's amazing the difference between the backgrounds - I think I prefer the black background, the colours just pop so much!

This Titania looks great, the base is perfect, this kind of details make want to go down the 3D printing rabbit hole XD About the backgrounds, I like the black one more. In my experience, completely black backgrounds are easier and more forgiving when taking pictures, there's no need to worry with the shadows projected by the mini, and just reducing the exposure is usually enough to make the whole thing pop. While with white background, for a very good pic, it needs either a lightbox, or at least 2 light sources with something to diffuse the light (some light white fabric or oven paper), so the shadows are not very strong, plus increasing the exposure, to "make the whites more white", this usually affects the colors of the mini. Lots of painters use a white bg, and looks great, I'm just saying that is harder to work than with black bg, or it's just that i just don't have the right setup. 2

For me as a photography Noob i always feel that the white background makes the photos look more professional overall whereas the black makes the Miniature look better than it actually looks in real life. I have the impression that minatures with lower overall contrast/valuedifference look better on black, while if you have extrem highlights white works just as well (or better). While that is of course totally subjective oh btw @TimH i really love the Lady Yummy Base, gj 1
Trimasel
Here is my pledge for this month: Sabertooths Cerberus & Cojo. It was my first try to do fur in models where is a lot of smooth sculpt, by using a lot of fine lines. As I see this technic could be used more time to improve quality of this models, but I'm quite happy with current result & next models calling to paint them. Here for you some intrigue: next month I will paint conversions.
feagaur
Another month of struggling for inspiration. Luckily Jack Daw Ensouled is such a great model.
Popular Post DemiMurgos
Here are the rest of my figures finished for this month - except the super sekrit F&S piece I'll reveal later. Lucas's current crew is finished with Desper LaRaux, painted as a hommage to my favourite thief, Garrett of the Thief game series: My Partner's finished Rotten Harvest/core Pandora crew: Poltergeist: Sorrows: (I am particularly proud that I trashcrafted his support out of a Chinese takeout fork tooth.) Candy: Baby Kade: I'll record my totals in the sheet (131 in total, whoop!) and that's all for this month! It has been a challenge, learned a lot during it, learned a lot from YOU all that I'm trying to incorporate. I'll keep the next month's challenges to my original pledge to not burn out from the painting (we needed both crews for a tournament this month, hence the marathon). @TimH Lady Yume looks gorgeously disgusting, pardon me. The detail and paintwork on her centipede body gives me uncomfortable crawly shivers. Great job on the model and the bloodwork on the base! @Trimasel They are simple but very detailed, great job! I should pay more attention to hairs and fur in the future, I think I'll shamelessly study your models as reference. @feagaur I love how the blues are popping, especially on the chaired model with the lightning! 8
Popular Post Caedrus
Caedrus, reporting in! My fellow painters, May has not treated me as kindly as I might have hoped. It's been a month of 'what might have been'. I had it in my mind to complete the rest of the Bandit keyword. But, I said to myself, "Caedrus, you callipygian icon, you should at least make sure you meet the monthly challenge before launching into such grand plans." So I did that. I painted three Wokou Raiders. 24SS. And then, the end of the month loomed, and then life got in the way, most annoyingly, and I had to adult all the time, and I got so close to finishing off the keyword, and then I just lightly touched one of the wokou and his freakin' arm sailed off and cartwheeled into the lost corners of my home, never to be seen again, and I had one day to now fix the models that made up my safety pledge and... well, it's about 90 minutes to midnight here. Time to admit that I didn't get the Bandits done, but I got really close. Oh well, that's a job for June. So, here are my Wokou, and my what-could-have-beens... (This dude is the one who ultimately had a head swap, and a last-minute arm replacement) I'm pleased with the models, but in using my thematic browns to tie them into the Bandit keyword, I kinda diluted their colourful nature for the Last Blossom keyword, which they share. Still, the blues are nice and strong. Just as a side note, I finally am starting to come to grips with ScaleColor paints. They do have a learning curve, but they're lovely when you start to get a handle on how they work. So very close, you three. Mad Dog, you're also close. I like your NMM, but I'm not sure if you should be wearing jeans. Convicts. I ummed-and-aahed about whether to paint stripes on you. I lament my decision. So, I managed 24SS, and I definitely have some stuff to finish in June. Have a great one, everyone! Caedrus.
Popular Post Kogan Style
Adding two more to complete the month, locking in a total of 34ss done for the month. Can't say I'm too happy with Mr Ngaatoro's face. I had grand plans for it and then the small scale just got me! Hopefully his weapon looks better, being a a tooth that oozes poison. Sovereign went through 2 repair jobs before finally holding together long enough for a photo! Time will tell whether it holds up... Full gang Thanks to those who liked the Stone effect. I got the inspiration from this site, worth checking out to see how it should look when done properly: Realistic Stone@CaedrusI like Mad Dog in jeans, it goes with the rest of the crew. I think Mad Dog might be mad enough to go... double denim! I think changing the shirt colour might help, as the cape and hat tie in with the rest of the crew but the current shirt colour is perhaps too close to the cape.@DemiMurgos Desper looks great, there is enough contrast between the different dark tones that it doesn't all meld together. The Rotten Harvest look very vibrant! @Trimasel The bases are really tying the two models together, despite the different colours, nicely done!@feagaur Ensouled looks great, but please don't play him when facing me! The brass on the Necrotic Machine really catches my eye. At this rate you'll be finished well before Nationals!@TimH Love the purple tones on the skin. I love adding purple when painting skin, gives a slightly horrifying look without being rotten. Love the Orange with the red, really sets the model off. 12
Popular Post Moinetbeard
Just managed to fit in a few more of hours of painting last night and completed Yamaziko for a total of 59SS complete this month. I'm actually pretty ashamed about the huge gaps on her front, especially as this month were talking about filling gaps... as you can see generally I don't bother. I normally find other ways to hide them, but these are pretty obvious... hey ho.. I'll probably go back at some point and fill these- I'll use a bit of green stuff, we'll worked with some moisturiser to soften it loads. And here are a few family photos of my first completed Malifaux crew. I think they have been the most I have ever enjoyed painting, which is down to the models themselves as well as the support form the lovely Malifaux community. This challenge has been the best thing ever to get me painting after such a long time of not being motivated.
Popular Post Strangely Brown
It's been a pretty good month at the Brown's painting table: I got all my marshals completed, to get that keyword fully done. I also got Sonnia 2 painted to finish off witch hunters completely: I also rebased Phiona & the field reporters to match the rest of my journalists from March: No ss claimed for them this month of course, just an inch I needed to scratch. This is already my most productive painting phase in years (32 models, 236ss & 6 keywords completed), and it's all down to the enthusiasm I get from reading all your posts & looking at the cool models you all share, so thank you all very much for that ☺️

It still sucks, but now you have stuff to paint the suck away. @Caedrus I hope life will treat you better in the next month, it's still really impressive that you have managed to get the max level pledge out of May despite all things. You're a champ! Finding flown away bits and pieces is easier if you have a cat/small children around. Cats Laughing
I did a third Depleted in May before I left on my trip, so I guess I finished with 9 soulstones total, enough for May, but not enough to buy back the mulligan from April, so I guess I'll shoot for that in June: To be honest, I like the 3rd one (first above, posted by itself) the most, as the pants and skin (normal) look decent.

DemiMurgos
Now that the announcement happened, I can share my entry to Flowers and Showers - Chiyo! The entry (based): The close-ups: I admit the shading on her face/clothes are not as prominent as I wanted it to be, but I'm still pretty proud of how she came out. I enjoyed painting her kimono a lot, especially the sleeves. Now, the rest of the crew follows in June!
TimH
Part of my points for May First wyrd contest I have entered and honestly happy with the result. I've had this boy sitting partially assembled and awaiting painting for some time and then when the theme of Showers and Flowers was announced I realised he would be a pretty good fit. I'm really pleased with how the tree sap came out and this was my first time making flower clusters. Congrats to everyone who took part in the contest!

Here's my F&S entry too, the "bad" misaki XD (was the only entry with 0 votes until a couple of days before the end, when an unknown blessed soul voted for it), the "good" misaki won the Overachiever category. I was determined to use a white background, but somehow I didn't manage to make it look as good as I'd like, funny thing is I did manage in the past 😕 Here's the same misaki with black bg, it doesn't look better, just different The good thing about it is that after 3 years I've finally decided on a color scheme for my last blossom crew@Gheist since those minis are still May pledges, I'd keep them in the May thread.
muraki
Figured I'd wait till I could post everything this month. So for this month I did a scavenger + the emissary for the contest... which was kind of difficult, cause I really just wanted to do the emissary to match my 'super low paint / effort' levi crew I'm doing, but also wanted to do well in the contest. I think i made a decent midground? So that's 16 for me this month... and now off to paint a effigy in the same style / basing before I forget how! haha
