  1. Rest of August: Pair of Komainu for Yan Lo: Just a quick drybrush of increasingly light metallics with some oranges painted in a few spots. Sun Quiang for Yan Lo: Went for a bit more dramatic light gradient on this one. Bit overboard on the back, but it works. Was fun. Very simple figure. Enjoyed painting in the textures and the like. Lately I haven't been feeling very comfortable with warm colours so I decided to do this one in orange. It was fun to poke my boundaries a bit, if only very slightly. For a not so local game store I did this piece for a Warhammer Chaos themed painting event: Early 90s metal Horror from GW. I say event because even though organiser used the word "competition", prize was raffled out so it was really more of a feelgood "paint something vaguely in the theme" thing. I enjoyed it. Wouldn't have grabbed this mini otherwise. I think out of five entries, mine was only one made before 2010s Neat thing, that. I was feeling quite pressured for time this month so I didn't push myself much at all with this one. I practiced wetblending on the skintone and pretty much left it at that. Highlight placement is all over the place too. I did get a little creative and added some candles for the summoning circle surrounding the demon. It was actually my wife who did the candles out of some paper clips, greenstuff and PVA. Not a normal occurrence at all, but we both enjoyed it. For other "contest" entries here's a link: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipMyvl2pTzcUx5jSqZhgCK1JbhYK-9H0yW8JnWQhUs_C_UO-aUQBQF_FIf1o9EmBcg?key=eFZ5TlIzUFlUOWJaTGRFb1Nvb0FheXZpM2FXcURB Only five pieces in total. But I enjoyed participating and seeing what others did for this. And to end the month another pair of quickly painted metallics: Mecharachnids for my Arcanists. Decided to have a little fun with coloured metallics. Same as Komainu, few drybrush layers with increasingly light tones. One of these days I just might paint up a Kill Team's worth of marines in coloured metallics. Way I do it is not very high quality paintjob, but it's a quick, easy effect for decent tabletop look I feel. Vallejo Metal Medium mixed with Scale75 Inktensity Inks. That's 11 models for August. 74 for the entire year thus far. 8 months done, 4 to go. I wonder where I'll end up. ___ September plans... I got half finished Order Initiate and two Saboteurs to paint for my Arcanists. Would be nice to have those available sooner rather than later. I got a few BMG commissions still floating around that need to get done. Beyond those, I'm craving something. Not quite sure what yet. I've been rushing a lot of models for the gaming table lately. I think I just need a few chill paintjobs, tryhard or not. Let's hope I can squeeze some in.
  2. How's it been going with Marcus @Pastori? Played my first two post-beta games with Marcus. Standard Explosives vs Guild Lucius (5-5) and Standard Turf vs Perdita (6-4). Fun crew, some good models and combos in it. Would've done better in both games had I not been still babystepping my way through basics of Marcus, but isn't that always the case Cerberus with Soulstone Cache, Mecharachnid with Diesel Engine and Slateridge Mauler (without and with Magical Training) in both games. Gonna test out Slateridge with Magical Training going forward. I'm sure it isn't optimal for Arcanists as a whole, but for my beast focus I like it. Bit risky carrier for Arcane Reservoir, but Shielded +1 combos decently with Hard to Wound and particularly well once I toss armour+1 on the bear. It tanks ok at that point. I add horns for some oomph (mandatory to get any damage out of him I feel). Tried Myranda in the Perdita game and I think she'll be autoincluded in the next few games to stress test her. Problem with Marcus and Myranda is that neither does a whole lot of anything if there isn't a beast or two nearby (and bear getting boxed made things uncomfortable for me vs. Perdita..). They're an expensive pair to run poorly. But I do like what she offers. Corner Turf coming up tonight and hopefully Corner Reckoning and Flank Idols in the weekend. Testing things out and having fun
  3. If there's a lot of variance in tables you play but want to prebuild lists, try to keep a few flexible slots to to swap in your more mobile pieces for those hard to traverse tables. Or shooty pieces for those open tables. Or whathaveyou. I do it for tournaments all the time.
  4. @Caedrus 40ss total for August Sidir (9) + Sun Quiang (7) + pair of Komainu (12) + pair of Mecharachnids (12). As for September, I've got an unfinished Order Initiate I didn't get done last month. Few half finished poorly built Saboteurs I want to get done for my arcs. That's a start. Few non-Wyrd commissions I really need to get out of the queue. And I'm kind of feeling like painting something that isn't a rushjob for my arcs. No idea yet if that'll be Wyrd gaming piece or just something for the display. Busy busy @Wintergloom starting out strong👍
  5. Monks have their sort-of stat6 +2 from Chi thing, but that's not "true" 8. There's some 7's. Misaki springs to mind, pretty sure I've bumped into a few others. TT Yan Lo with Silent Protector upgrade gets Stat 9 Challenge from turn 3 onwards (well technically it's stat 6 + 3 to all duel totals, but that's splitting hairs I think) Edit: no 7+flips though that I'm aware of. Not without Adversary.
  6. Pair of spiders done: Rushed metallics is what they are. But sometimes that's good enough for my purposes. Back to my comfort zone with the Initiate that's all skin & cloth. Might get that done while we're still in August.
  7. Plenty of models are still without a 3e release. Wyrd is doing a bunch every month but 2e had quite the catalogue. Even with all the box mergings this edition.
  8. I guess it came down to whose eyes glossed over this particular rules bit: "The player with the highest value [Initiative Flip] may choose which player has Initiative" Mine didn't. I wouldn't know how rest of the locals have done it. I did miss a few other rules but Initiative wasn't one
  9. Under "Summoning", page 32 of the pdf rules: Brand new model, meaning all the game effect designations (scheme target, conditions, health etc.) that were on the old model do not apply. It is a new, distinct model from the model that at some point in the past may have been in play.
  10. Rushjob #1. Mecharachnid for another 6ss. Ready to skittle along with the Beastmaster.
  11. Looks to be 1e metal Sonnia and Rider is 2e plastic. They do have that creepy kind of yellow tone I've seen in a few fan art pictures of Simpsons. ___ I got a Marcus game coming up Sunday. Going to take that as a nudge to get some Marcus stuff painted in the next three days. I've got two Mecharachnids and an Order Initiate marked for rushjobs I could do in that time. Let's see how far I manage.
  12. Thinking in terms of 3e keywords, Undying box is made up of a few different components: TT Versatile/Last Blossom: Minako Rei + her summons Res/(TT via Yan Lo) Retainer: Manos Res Redchapel/Revenant: Mourners Res Versatile: Grave Golem ___ As you can see the Res part of the box is all over the place. Admittedly Grave Golem is versatile and Manos is good enough to hire out of keyword. If you plan to stick to TT Yan Lo, the box has three useless models. Up to you to define what's "worth". I got lucky and found single Manos when I was starting Yan Lo. I'm waiting for a more TT customer friendly 3e box for Minako. Oh yeah I should probably mention that I've played 20-ish games with Misaki in 3e. Never proxied in Minako. On paper I can see how she'd be good. But honestly I haven't missed having her either. I will definitely grab her 3e box when it comes available but I'm not exactly hurting in the meanwhile.
  13. Considering Manos' (only resser Yan Lo model out of the encounter box) 3e box is made entirely of resser Yan Lo models, I'd say there's decent odds that we'll get a box with Minako & her summons with no extra baggage. Nothing's been spoiled to that effect, so it's strictly idle musings on my part. But it seems highly likely we'll get a much more TT friendly box to buy her in in 3e. You've got Misaki's keyword fairly well covered already. You can build extremely functional lists with what you have already. Sure there's plenty versatiles and out-of-keyword models you might like to have for some variety or specific shenanigans, but you've got your bases covered. Just play some and see what you'd like. Biggest "needs" that strike me are counters to specific styles of crews. Tanuki are highly efficient condition removers. Last Blossom struggles with armour so Sidir Alchibal or Samurai would be welcome additions. Those spring to mind first. But unless your regular opponent is Hoffman or something, you can probably do without them for now.
  14. I bet Wyrd knows My guess is they'll be in Yan Lo's crew box. That might come out in 2019. Maybe.
  15. That'd be Taelor 9ss + Hans 8ss + Bishop 9ss. @Caedrus 26ss total for Viruk. Smashing👍
  16. I'm generally not a fan of such effects. Mainly because I don't like it when clearly unpainted things are added to a clearly painted piece. But I do like the photoshop mockup so whatever It can surely be done well.
  17. I'll preface this by saying I have neither used nor faced Desper. Assuming Desper hasn't changed since beta... I like having a highly mobile min3 beater. Survivability-wise Serpent has htk and a wonky self heal. It has served me well. Desper can ss but at that point he ends up costing more than 9ss. But true, if you're looking for pure scheming Desper seems to be the guy to go to. At the end of the day I can see why someone would go for Desper over Serpent (or something else over both), but at the same time I'd have a hard time leaving out a min3 model. Not saying I need it. But I definitely feel I need it. Personal crutches and all that. Probably a tad off topic but for me it's usually a choice between Dawn Serpent and Ama No Zako (ook). Both are mobile beaters with some scheming potential. Specialised hires, but ones I've been happy with.
  18. Reminder that in this edition Fast ups your available actions by +1, up to three max. So no effect on masters in most cases.
  19. https://www.wyrd-games.net/upcoming-releases Gremlin Faction book is a September release so no surprise on that front. Ulix being a July release really ought to be available now. Worth noting that when Wyrd says "July" they mean "late July". I ordered Marcus Core Box (also a July release) and only received it 19th of August. That's perfectly normal delay for my LGS. I don't know about yours. If I was you I'd contact the LGS and inquire about status of my order. Also make sure they understand that faction book won't be coming out for another month and some, just in case they're sitting on the Ulix order until they can get the book too.
  20. I've been quite happy with Dawn Serpent in Plant Explosives. Mv7, Flight, Agile, Enforcer. That's what I read on its card. Put two bombs on it and off it flies. It's also good with schemes that play similarly, breakthrough/power ritual/search the ruins etc.. But I often go for something else for those. It's big problem is no extra AP (either interact or attacks would be nice) and being a 9ss model that doesn't really synergise with other keywords. This makes it a fairly specialised hire for me, but in that role I've been happy with it.
  21. Neat colour scheme you got going there. I like.
  22. I haven't gotten round to it yet, grain of salt and all that, but Into the Breach seems interesting. Specifically the bit about "pushing or moving models". From what I've seen it has a fair bit of offensive model displacement and terrain/objectives influencing your positioning a fair bit. Not what you're asking but since we're talking games... When it comes to 1v1 board games I quite enjoy Tash Kalar. Far simple game compared to Malifaux but it too relies heavily on correct positioning on the board and achieving objectives that are (usually) not directly tied to how much of the opponent you kill.
  23. No one is saying she stops Demise (Eternal). What people are saying is she stops Demise (drop a Marker).
  24. Rules pdf page 3 under "Breaking the Rules":
  25. That's not without precedent though. Arcanist box "Burning Bridges" has 2 Wildfire models and 1 Wildfire/Elemental model. Somewhat annoying if you're an Elemental player. Anyway, we already know Gators are in a box with McTavish ("See You Later").
