  1. Even better, here's what rulebook has to say (pdf page 27 Waldo box): Neither of the current versions of Cursed Idols specifically say otherwise.
  2. I've used one. Keep 'em back, flip Turf Markers on my side of the table, litter the area with scheme markers so they can teleport to do some counter scheming. Cheap activation doing some boring but necessary Interacts. But they often get dropped for seemingly better options in the 6 or less ss range. I haven't looked over NB selection but I can easily believe you've got better options. It isn't useless but... let's say the claim that Chimera are a tad overpriced/underperforming before adding Mutations may certainly apply with Molemen. As is on the base card they're a bit too fragile for my taste.
  3. WIPpery is afoot. Something of a rare treat, I went to paint at the LGS today. Managed to do the skin despite constant banter Continued with the wings and doodled on one of the armour plates back home. Before today I was a bit lost with Barbiboy. Like I said at the LGS, "I don't know where I want to go or how to get there". Well, now I've at least got an idea. Reasonably satisfied with that armour plate.
  4. Lot of the rules are the same. But plenty are just different enough. Definitely takes a few playthroughs, and maybe a re-read of the rulebook after some games, for a 2e vet to adjust. Certainly did for me
  5. Joss isn't engaged by the Emissary. Charge away. Read the first and second paragraph under "Engagement". Note that there's a difference between "engaging" and "engaged by". Your brain is indeed harking back to 2e, when engaging someone meant you were engaged as well.
  6. I don't use as many Upgrades for Yan Lo crews. Trained Ninja and Silent Protector are quite defensively oriented and feel a bit redundant on most models (or just ineligible since Trained Ninja requires Living). I do like Silent Protector on Yan himself though. Hard to Kill on top of everything else he's got going for staying alive is pretty rage inducing I rarely use it, but stat 9 Challenge (base 6 + 3 from Fortify Spirit) is hilarious on paper. Incidental combo. If you mean using Reliquaries on Yan Lo... sometimes I guess. Manos' has been useful in assassinate. Sometimes Izamu's is handy. But usually they go on other models.
  7. This is definitely a big factor. Also a reason why I very rarely go 100% theme list with Marcus, just so I can have some independently awesome models that don't eat up a mutation slot.
  8. So. November. Cool month. Started with metal Samael Hopkins for the monthly challenge. Had a big non-Wyrd project coming up so I needed an easy "out" for this month. No pressure, no aspirations, just pushing some paint around for a wee while. It's grown on me. Diablo, I think? Dude from that Suicide Squad film I haven't seen. For BMG. This was a quick commission piece for a friend. "Don't make it look like the film". After a few reference shots I ended up on minty green. It's a neat fig. Then the big project. Took a few weeks: Watchmen set for BMG. Read the comic book in my teens. Big fan. Had to have these. Solo shots below: Ozymandias. Wanted to do marble throne, but couldn't get it working after a few evenings. Ended up just washing light browns over off whites. Nite Owl II. I rarely paint a lot of desaturated colours, so this was an interesting departure. Took while to mix the right tones for what I wanted. Pretty happy with the result. Comedian. Especially in contrast to the simplicity of other figures in this set, I found the amount of details on this guy wearying. Sure it's no GW details-on-details-on-details, but ugh. Happy with the look, but definitely most "work" out of the whole set. Silk Spectre II. It's been a while since I put some effort into yellow. Was fun. After Comedian I really enjoyed the return to simplicity. Rorschach. By now project fatigue was setting in, so I did a quick 1-nighter on him (ok it was a long night, but still). Dr Manhattan. Bit of self censorship here. Not sure if a crudely DIY sculpted miniature blue ding dong is "sexually-oriented" as per Terms of Use, but erred on the side of caution here. Funny thing happened with Manhattan. While I was out gaming after finishing below the belt parts of Manhattan, my 4yo sneaked into my painting corner and painted some bright pink all over the legs. "Needed more pink" he said. If I wasn't aiming for somewhat canonical look I'd agree Bubastis. Rather than going for the canonical tiger look I decided to try out a new purple paint. Plus I was really itching to finish the project so I kept to a fairly monochromatic colour scheme. Magnetised to fit either her own base or Ozymandias', for gameplay reasons. After the Watchmen project I wanted something low-effort, so I decided to paint up a small frog and pair of safes. Safes are from an official BMG tournament prize kit, frog is from Greebo Games. Had the usual post project "what now?" after Watchmen. After browsing my primed shelf I ended up working on this "Wartart with katana" from Greebo Games. Relaxed 2-day paintjob, would've really benefited from another 30 minutes spent on the skin (went too heavy with a wash, killed some of my highlights). Cool little mini. Greebo sells other "Wartarts" too, there's a staff, pair of daggers and nunchucks too. And a few themed villains to go with the tarts. Capped the month off with a quick bag. I guess I could use it as an objective in BMG or something. ___ 11 minis (counted the frog but not objectives). 95 total for this year. I reckon I'll break 100 this year For December I'm working on alt Barbaros for the monthly challenge. I've ordered "Sepulchral Guard" 7-skeleton warband from GW that should be here within a few weeks. Hoping to turn that into a week (or so) long batch project.
  9. Card draw is nice. Situational min3 is nice, if a bit taxing on actions positioning. They're not sturdy, but at least their health=cost and df5 so they aren't "below the bar". Even if the bar itself is somewhat fragile. They've got things going for them, so I wouldn't go adding lots of stuff. Mutations on non-beasts/chimeras in particular. That's the kind of thing that'll break something. I'd let that thing lie. ___ IF Wyrd decides to change them, I always prefer minimum required errata. So a simple -1ss could very well do the trick. It'd not be quite so competing with many quality 8ss beasts, and assuming it kept health 7 it'd be a bit more durable for their cost. I don't think that'd change them into autoincludes or even frequent models to grace the top tables, but I'd be fine with that. They'd feel more like their own model and less like a bad bear or whatever.
  10. Been using them for the last... +5 games? Fair few times certainly. Not a fan. Uninspiring on paper and fairly meh on the table. Fragile. There's that occasional spark of brilliance where they punch someone for 4/5/6 and I can manage 3/4/5's reasonably consistently, but they're very reliant on positioning etc.. Feels like most of my successes with them have been handed to me by the opponent's unfamiliarity with them. I could just pay +1 for a reliable beast and be done with it. Or swap them for a worthwhile versatile in that 6-8ss range. Card draw is nice I suppose, but apart from maybe Corrupted Idols it hasn't felt like it overweighs the downsides. Models are kickass though Do enlighten us on the Rattler. I'm just not seeing what it does for 7ss when I compare it to my options in the 6-8ss range.
  11. Might do something else if the mood strikes me, but going to focus on alt Barbaros for this month: Grand figure to cap the year off. Still figuring out a colour scheme. Lime green and turquoise armour plates are from ways, ways back when I last considered painting him. Right now pink/purple/magenta armour and grey skin is high in my mind, but I'll let it simmer for a while.
  12. There's no special club (or maybe I'm just not in it) for tacticas. As I see it it's more of a "build it and they will come" thing. Neat insights. Nothing I can really disagree with. Food for thought for sure.👍
  13. Look at the "The Endless Void Card". Bottom right has "Limitations". Listed you'll find: Special (Summon, Voidling) Plentiful (2). 'Summon' means it's relevant when some models do things to models that carry "summon" upgrades. 'Voidling' means it's a valid card for Tara's From the Void ability.
  14. Shockwave rules are on page 31 of the rules pdf.
  15. It can be a challenging prospect sure. But at least this year has been accommodating. I don't paint a ton of Wyrd anymore, I just have all I need painted, so for the challenge I was able to pick 1ss minimum to do each month. Worked for me. I've enjoyed the light pressure the challenge adds to my painting routine.
  16. I don't mind either way once I'm at an event. But discussing strats & schemes on the few hours/overnight travel to the venue with friends makes for fun geektalk, and I miss that when travelling to blind tourneys.
  17. How about Corrupted Idols? Sure it might be statistically irrelevant, but I've won & lost idol placements by 1. I've won & lost games because one of us consistently forced idol placements in highly advantageous positions. That's where I'd consider leaving the neph out. It's not a thing I'd consider for any other totem* (I haven't read through all the cards).
  18. These things would be better asked at the rules forum: https://themostexcellentandawesomeforumever-wyrd.com/forum/54-malifaux-rules-discussion/ "Armor +X: Reduce all damage suffered by this model by +X". Yes, it does reduce damage from blasts etc.. Anything that doesn't explicitly say it ignores armour or damage reduction gets reduced. Do note that nothing can reduce damage to 0 unless it mentions otherwise, so 1 damage will always go through armour. [ref: rules pdf page 24, 'Damage Reduction'] "Terrifying (X): After an enemy model targets this model with an Attack Action, the enemy model must pass a TN X Wp duel or the Action fails". Obey doesn't change who is considered friendly or enemy [ref: rules pdf page 26 'Friendly, Enemy & Control'). So long as a model is targeting a model it considers an enemy with an Attack Action, it's subject to terrifying tests. No. Mindless Zombies have the 'Mindless' Ability which states: "Mindless: When this model is Summoned, it is treated as having already Activated this Turn, and neither player gains or discards any Pass Tokens". Hinamatsu is good. I Don't know if she's op or not, but definitely top model. How to deal with any Butterfly Jump model: shoot it, focus attack (since you're only getting one melee at it usually), use models that can charge multiple times (Frenzied Charge is the ability I think), try to use models/terrain to block escape routes. And always keep in mind that VPs win games, not kills (though efficient kills do help). For more in-depth help vs. Hinamatsu you might consider submitting a small battle report on the battle report or faction forum and asking for some points on how to improve your play. Odds are Hinamatsu isn't the sole thing keeping you down.
  19. Yup. It's an attack that deals damage. Only "may"s on the card concern movement.
  20. How's the November beastie boy coming along? Loving the look for October. I quite often use a very limited set of highlight colours, but doing the same for shadows is quite a bit rarer. I should probably give it a go.
  21. I always say use water if you can get by with just water. Water does a lot, no need to throw in extra stuff if you don't need to. That said I own about ten or so pots of various paint additives and regularly use many of them. I wouldn't say they're necessary, but they do help in some situations, if you know how to use them. Many of them can change how a paint flows or dries, which can make a huge difference if you're just slopping on a thick coat of Contrast™ or something. Nice Effigy. Arcane is one of the three effigies I've painted. They're among my favourite models in the range. Such cool models. I've never painted the big bull, so good luck for when you tackle that. Big models are always intimidating. They show off any deficiencies in painting much more readily than smaller models.
  22. App is very much tournament legal. Quote from the latest Gaining Grounds (ie. Tournament document): Link to the GG:
  23. Third Floor thing is a harmless joke. Arcanists (and feel free to replace Arcs with a number of other factions) do have really good upgrades, really good versatiles and some really good masters. These are all a reason someone might (for right or wrong) cry foul, especially on the internet. Such cries should always be taken with a pinch of salt. Which isn't to say some adjustments in a future errata wouldn't be welcome, for a number of factions, but I'll leave the speculation for others
  24. I'd say they're pretty similar already. Biggest visual difference to me seems to be their heads. Gokudo have hoods and no mask. So an appropriate headswap or sculpting some hoods would IMO do the job. If you have some shuriken-esque bits to go around maybe add those in too to further differentiate from stock High River model if you feel it's warranted. edit: Are you aware of the special order program? You can probably get Gokudo by themselves via that, when they eventually do come out. https://www.wyrd-games.net/special-orders
  25. While I disagreed with some occasional individual changes (or lack of), in general I was a big fan of 2e's twice a year errata. I certainly hope Wyrd keeps at it.
