  1. In this case then would one be able to score 5VP from this scheme?
  2. Would this be the case for Neverborn with Nekima's Birthright: trigger: Seems like the same thing but I would love your thoughts....
  3. This came up in a game last night at a friends table. The player was wondering if he could remove his models focus condition before he made a heal flip to give him a positive. The player argued he could, here's his argument: Focus appears to be a condition that can give ANY action's duel or damage flip a positive. a Heal flip is "identical" to a damage flip thus allowing the focus condition to effectively give a positive to the flip. So the question is whether or not the word, "identical" was intended as, 'mechanics work identically but is different in practice' or that "Identical" means identical in every way. I would love your thoughts
  4. Sigh, what if we're not so keen. Would you mind explaining the watcher trick?
  5. Hello Los Angeles tabletop Players. We are having a Malifaux Demo Day this Sunday at Emerald Knights. If you and/or a friend have been interested in Malifaux then please stop on by. We will be there from 12:00 - 7:00 PM and will have several tables set up to give demo's. Now's a great chance to jump in and see what Malifaux has to offer. We will have several Malifaux players there to give a one-on-one demo. In the demo there are 5 scenarios that will take you step by step through every mechanic of the game each scenario will take about 20 minutes and you can play as many or as few as you wish.
  6. ah, gotcha, Thank you for your patience I really appreciate the help.
  7. Thanks Dogmantra! So just to make sure I got this correctly. The answer is No the teddy in this example cannot discard a marker. Reasons why are: Very often the "do X to do Y" interpretation would allow this to work but because of the "If a tree falls in a forest" F.A.Q. this does not in fact work. In this case Teddy heals, but would heal "0" so does not count as healing he cannot discard the marker.
  8. So This came up in a game recently. I had a Teddy with the Malifaux Provides upgrade attached. I was at full health and withing 3" and LoS of a scheme marker. "Malifaux Provides: At the end of this model's activation, it may discard a scheme marker within 3" and LoS of this model to heal 2 damage on this model." The question is can Teddy at the end of his activation discard the scheme marker if he is at full health? I see arguments both for and against and would love your thoughts
  9. Hello everyone, I absolutely love everything about Wyrd models. Love the lore/fluff, love the detailed and artistic sculpts, and I love the names they give. Addressing the last point, I think it’s so clever that Wyrd frequently finds amazing folklore/historical namesakes for some of their characters. I have been researching some of the names for fun and have found a couple lovely discoveries. I wanted to post my findings and share the giggles with others. In addition, I hope to have some help in my quest. There are a couple missing finds and I would love your help if you all have any insight. 10. Additionally for all you Facebook users Emerald Knights has a good group where you can ask questions, browse past events, and see what's in stock for the future. Malifaux Knights: https://www.facebook.com/groups/MalifauxKnights/
  11. Thanks Rabbitknight and Enternalvoid!
  12. Thanks Solkan, you have made your point very clear. I think I get your humor but i would be careful how you phrase jokes. Thinner skinned people might misinterpret the humor and take it personally. to lighten the mood, most people merely adopted the dark side.... I was born into it. I read the ability with the same interpretation as you when I first came across Phiona. I then stumbled onto the second interpretation while watching the Rough Riders Wargaming video on youtube. I have met and played Casey and he has a love for Wargaming and a healthy friendly community at heart and truly don't think anyone was trying to abominate all that you hold dear. I think that we are trying to figure out how these new masters and crews work firstly with the rules dictated of coarse by the rule-book but then, and I am speaking for myself and not the rough Riders, by what I think the creators intended the mechanics to work. after watching the video I see a sort of synergy in how Nellie and Phiona would work together and it would match the fluff too and that's how the video interpreted it too. I can see the point of contention and most definitely see your point, in fact i agree with you. thanks for shedding some light.
  13. I have a question about Phiona Gage’s ability, “It’s Me You’re Fighting” It’s Me You’re Fighting: Once per tern after an enemy model engaged with this model fails a Wp duel outside this models activation this model may make a melee attack action against it after resolving the current action. In a game, my opponent and I found different ways of interpreting how the ability reads and I would love your opinions. Here’s an example that illustrates the conflicting interpretation. An enemy model, let’s say a Punk Zombie, is 6” away from Phiona. Nellie Cochrane activates and targets the Punk Zombie with Propaganda and successfully attacks and coincidentally pushes the Punk Zombie 5” towards Phiona. The enemy PZ is now within Phiona’s engagement, can she use her “It’s Me You’re Fighting:” ability? The conflict is whether “an enemy model engaged with this model” is determined at the point of: 1. Immediately when it fails the Wp duel 2. After resolving the current action. YES: Because the requirements are, Engagement, WP Duel Fail, Outside activation, if all three are met “After resolving the current action” then it’s legal. NO: Because the enemy model wasn’t engaged during the point of the failed duel, which then means the timing doesn’t allow for the ability to resolve. Thought?
  14. Why would you only discard 1 card and not 3?
  15. Wait, how does Hannah energize with Misleading Headlines? I don't see how passing the activation or giving out mood swing synergies.... and how would she get 4 attacks? Sorry if I'm not seeing something obvious, I would greatly appreciate the help
  16. Hello guys and gals, I’ve been collecting translucent models here and there and was wondering if anyone has had the same problem I’ve had. I have almost exclusively picked up a translucent model or worse,(better) a box set after I’ve already painted the model in its normal plastic form. I have grown to love my painted model because of the natural charm that grows when sinking hours into painting and playing using them. I like the idea of playing with translucent figures because they’re just so cool but I can’t seem to “retire” my old tried-and-true. I know, first world problem, but I was wondering if there are any clever and creative ideas that others have found; something as simple as switching it up from time to time or something completely outside the box like grafting them into scenery or other models…. I would love to hear if you’ve seen or done anything clever to solve this pickle I’m in. Thanks all!
  17. I get a lot of questions regarding Flight and Incorporeal mechanics so I constructed a somewhat comprehensive look at the two. I would love feedback. Looking for fact checking as well as any mechanics that I missed that would be good to include. Flight: This model is immune to falling damage and may ignore any terrain or models while moving. Incorporeal: This model ignores, and is ignored by, other models and terrain during any movement or push. Reduce all damage this model suffers from Sh: and Ml: attack actions by half. Fall Damage: • YES: Flight ignores fall damage • NO: Incorporeal does not ignore fall damage Ignore Models During Moving: • YES: Flight ignores/is ignored • YES: Incorporeal ignores/is ignored Ignore Terrain During Moving: • YES: Flight ignores/is ignored • YES: Incorporeal ignores/is ignored Ignore Models During Push: • NO: Flight does not ignore/is ignored • YES: Incorporeal ignores/is ignored Ignore Terrain During Push: • NO: Flight does not ignore/is ignored • YES: Incorporeal ignores/is ignored Ignore Models During Charge: • NO: Flight does not ignore/is ignored • NO: Incorporeal does not ignore/is ignored Ignore Terrain During Charge: • NO: Flight does not ignore/is ignored • NO: Incorporeal does not ignore/is ignored *Note that Flight and Incorporeal do not affect any LoS mechanics. *All models stop immediately when the rules use “Base to base” see FAQ #73 73) If a model is pushed “into base contact” with an Incorporeal model, can it move through the Incorporeal model and stop on the other side? No. It stops as soon as base contact is achieved. *Addendum regarding elevation, see FAQ #57-58. 57) If a model is pushed off of an edge high enough to necessitate a fall, does it fall immediately? Could it be pushed far enough to reach another surface of equal height (assuming there was such a surface)? Models which fall due to a push, fall immediately (models also generally fall immediately during regular movement unless they have Flight or Incorporeal). The model would be pushed off of the ledge and then immediately fall and take any necessary falling damage upon reaching the ground. Then, if there is any distance left required by the push (and the model is still in play), it will push the remaining distance. 58) How do the Flight and Incorporeal abilities interact with vertical terrain? Can a model with Flight end its move a further vertical distance from its starting point than its Walk stat would normally allow? Can a model with flight “leap” over a gap in two pieces of terrain? A model with Flight ignores terrain for all purposes while moving. However, the distance the model moves is still limited by the length of the move the model is allowed to take. Add the distance the model moved horizontally in relationship to its starting point to the distance the model moved vertically upwards (downwards movement is falling and it is never counted against a model’s movement total) in relationship to its starting point. This value may not exceed the distance allowed by the move the model was making. For example, a model with a Wk of 6 and Flight declares a Walk Action. It is on a Ht 3 building and wishes to move to a point on a separate terrain piece (a Height 5 building) which is 3" away. It takes the model 5" of movement to get there (3" of horizontal movement and 2" of vertical movement because the difference between the Heights of the buildings is 2, and the model is moving upwards). Since the model has a Wk of 6, it can make it to the desired point on the Ht 5 building and still has 1" of movement to use as it wishes once it gets there. Incorporeal models move in the same way, though they may take falling damage if the end point of their move is on a lower Ht, depending on the terrain (see falling, Core Rulebook pg. 42).
  18. So how does randomizing work with the ability "silent" Silent: models cannot ignore LOS or cover when targeting this model. So let's say there are two models engaged with each other and within 2 inches of each other, one of them is a Silurid. The other is temporarily targeted by a projectile attack action. After randomizing the Sillerid is the new target for the attack but due to blocking terrain cannot draw line of sight from the attacking model. What happens in this situation? A couple options I thought of: 1. The attack immediately fails because of the silent ability 2. The attack continues because the rules of randomizing supersede abilities. 3. This model does not flip during randomizing because he cannot be a legal target. Similar to the ability "which one is real "
  19. How would you define the traits "enclosed" and "impassable"? Specifically the differences between the two. ive found that many different tourneys define them differently and it's fun hearing the differences as per dragon but I'm curios what the forum thinks.
  20. So I overlooked that Dr. Grimwell's tactical action, "Doctor's Orders" is (1) not (0) So this would let him have a threat range of 11", without a charge, not 13" via a charge. But same question as above, he can target himself correct?
  21. I have two questions about the leaders in the starter set, both concerning movement. First question) So Doc has a tactical action, "Doctor's Orders" that allows him to target a friendly model within range and Move that model up to 4 inches. So it doesn't say "other friendly model" which I would interpret allows him to target himself correct? which with a charge of 7" would allow him to 'Move 4' (even around a corner or two) and then make a charge of 7" as swing at something 2" away; effectively giving him a threat range of 13, (with a charge) Second question) Angel Eyes has a trigger, Hide in Shadow: after succeeding move this model up to 3" So does this trigger a disengaging strike? unless the opposing model is a friendly model or paralyzed or doesn't have an engagement range I would not think so because the rules say. "Only Walk Actions provoke disengaging strikes, any other type of move or push will not." so as I interpret the rules I see this walk as a walk trigger not a walk action, am I correct?
  22. To further clarify, the wording I think important to note is "At the start of the game". This is important because of how "Crew", "Hire" and "Summon" all interact. Because of the reasons I listed below, this is why you cannot list Ikaro for example. Or from your example above, even if you noted “Insidious Madness #3” and played as the dreamer and summoned a third, (#3), it would not count because IM3# was not a part of the crew until summoned. Feel free to read below and share your thoughts. So here are the mechanics as I understand them. Crew: “At its most basic level, a Crew is a group of models that represent a group of characters that the player controls in an Encounter.” According to my interpretation the models that comprise a player's team is the never changing “crew” even when a model is being controlled by the opponent through other means, the model never leaves its crew. That's why there are FAQ’s for other schemes like Hunting Party and Collect the Bounty that clarify which player gets the VP if a controlled model kills a friendly. In the FAQ’s they always reinforce the model’s Crew, not Controller Hire: “Each player will have a set number of Soulstones from which they may hire a Crew.” Hiring IMHO is a completely separate entity from crew. Yes, you hire models that join and comprise your crew. But your crew is not defined as the models that you hired. That's why models like Lord Chompy Bits and Coryphee Duet, (models that can never be hired, only summoned) are still a part of the players crew. Summoning: “Summoning creates a new model….In addition, the summoned model belongs to the acting model’s Crew, and is under the control of the acting model’s player...Summoned models count toward Victory Rules as normal.” This reinforces my opinion that the crew is separate from hiring and summoning mechanics. Because the rules state, “belongs to the acting model’s Crew, and is under the control of the acting model’s player” this denotes that crew and model controller are different and that when a model is summoned it joins or is immediately a part of the acting player. Yes there is the line in the rules that summoned models count toward VP but that's only when they are a part of the crew aka summoned into the crew. This is also why Ressers don’t have to list every model they may potentially summon at the beginning of the game when crews are declared because these available models are not as of yet a part of the crew until summoned.
