Math Mathonwy
Areolas on the Beckoner? That's pretty clever, I think and the execution is spot on. The brilliance effect is awesome - looks very unearthly. What paints did you use for the skirt - that's a lovely satinish red effect. Are these part of the same commission?
dgraz
Thanks. Yeah, same commission. I'd love to take that, but no....no areolas.....It does kinda look like it (even in person) but it's just a shadow effect. Just my normal mix of Vallejo and GW paints (soon to be all Vallejo) and careful blending....up to a pretty high highlight. If you're speaking about the front of the skirt, then there's also multiple coats of a very thin blue wash for a little subtle OSL......not translating too well in the pic....looks a little more prominent in person. Aaaaaaand.....looking at it again, I just realized that I totally forgot to paint her under-skirts. Whoops....gotta fix that.

Clawz
Blegh, that brilliance look is... eugh (for all the right reasons: It looks so unsettling!) Also, nice source-lighting on crouching guy's pants! All I can think of when looking at the female one is "Anybody want a Kiss?!" I'll be very curious to see how the big two for this crew turn out!
Vaiuri
Bit off topic, but I love the wrap-around tattoo. I chickened out of trying tottoos on Mei Feng - I wonder if you would mind giving me a few pointers when you have time? I wholeheartedly agree with the painting style debate and can say I enjoy your work just as much as Mako's Every painter is their own harshest critic, but I think you two are most definitely in the same league! I really like browsing these threads for inspiration, keep it up! Back on topic - those gupp eggs are inspired. Looking forward to seeing how you tackle Huggy - is this another commission or something for yourself?
dgraz
@Clawz - Thanks. I'm curious to see how they turn out too Bit off topic, but I love the wrap-around tattoo. Looking forward to seeing how you tackle Huggy - is this another commission or something for yourself? Hey, if it's about painting (mine or anyone else's) then it's ON topic in this thread. As far as being in Mako's league.....I think there's plenty of people on here 'in my league', but I think Mako is just on another level......(and Ratty too although I haven't seen him around much anymore).....I look to Mako when I need a boost to challenge myself. I love my Gupp eggs.....it sure felt like an inspiration.....I was thinking about it for days then....BING! The lightbulb came on.....I'm just happy it worked out.....I did six and the first three didn't make the cut. This is part of the same NB commission I've been working on......the last part (though the client has hinted that he likes Lilith too so we'll see if the is truly the last part). Huggy is going to get a lot of that Brilliance effect....we'll see how it goes. Tattoos: There's no way around it, you have to have the brush control. You have to have a good brush that keeps a great tip (I use the W&N Series 7's). You have to have thinned paints that are going to flow easily and not blob up. I gained a lot of my fine brush control working bigger and simpler. If you check out my Hordes Trolls, I did the blue Woad on the warbeasts (my Dire Troll has a lot). The Woad is mostly just shapes and I was able to go big because the models are big and have a lot of exposed flesh. This then was fine tuned into smaller work. You still start the same though....you have to break the tat down into basic shapes first.....circles, ovals, squares, etc. Then you go back in to tweak it with the details.....like a shadow behind a leg. And you'll have to make corrections.....you'll have to use your flesh tone to smooth edges and such. It takes a lot of care and patience. The final step is to take a wash of your flesh mid-tone (I usually do one part paint to three or four parts water) and completely cover the tat.......err on the side of more water....you can always put another coat if needed but if it's too much paint then you can't take it back. This will make the tat look like it is set under the skin instead of being painted on. I hope that helps.
Vin
Those gupp eggs are a great idea. I assume we'll be seeing some copy cats. Nice stuff.

Thanks....and if my stuff inspires somebody to spin off on it or straight out copy it then I'm cool with that. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Dirial
Oh my God, that's the greatest Huggy I've ever seen in my life!
NIGHTHATER
Dgraz's, Dude who can paints like this, the gods? Are you fricken kidding me with this amazing work? Since you need to stay grounded with people of "natural" painting skill I'm going to come after your work as often as I can. Your painting is always perfect or beyond, so I'll get petty and go after your bases. There interested to look at, but I don't think they line up with the casino theme well. They look like stone paths through a swamp. I think you should have gone with wood steps to a wooden casino or street looking stuff for the bekoners and the darkness. You also may have missed a cool chance to do a doppleganger is in the house taking the form of someone she just killed base. Like I said petty stuff to keep you grounded. Math Mathonwy
What the hell? That is insane o_O Those are seriously your best work to date. You managed to make Huggy look good! Amazing, really.Nighthater, these are I believe for the same client as the previous Neverborn and therefore based the same.
Jimbobovalsocks
I absolutely love that hungering darkness. Definately the best I've seen. The doppelganger is excellent too. I'm with Nighthater on the bases, but if that's what your client has asked for, that's what you've got to deliver right?!
dgraz
Hey, thanks sooooo much guys. Again, these models were a lot of work.........HD was basically one big free-hand job over the entire model.....certainly the most free-hand I've ever done on one model. After all that work, it's nice to know that it paid off. Nighthater - thanks for keeping my head from getting stuck in doorways. But Math is correct......this is the end of my three crew NB commission....so all the bases tie together. These aren't quite finished. I like to do all the models basing at the same time to stay consistent.....I'll be adding the foliage over the next day or two then I'll show pics of the entire Jakob crew together. They look like stone paths through a swamp. That's good, because that's exactly what they're supposed to look like Again, many thanks. SpiralngCadavr
Something feels a little unnatural about the doppelgänger, which unfortnately isn't a joke about her being creepy... I think the skin shading is too harsh while the flesh shading is too flat (just focused on the texture). However, the HD is spectacular. Nice theme and execution.
Rotokultaxe
Amazing work on the Hungering Darkness! the freehand really adds to the otherworldly nature of the model. And that Doppleganger is some sweet anatomy lesson
osoi
Have to agree with the others here dgraz, this is your best work to date
Clawz
Hungering Darkness patterns are awesome! I can see the universe... I love that it helps disguise what its form is supposed to look like: the more that creature is hard to get a mental grip on, the better for its fluff, I think!

dgraz
Thank you. Not sure I want to do my idea now! Yeah right. Now I'm curious: Why'd yo decide against the floating apparition on Lynch's base? Client's orders. He didn't like it and didn't want it.
