Will we be able to buy the Steam Trunk on its own?

I really don't want to have to buy the entire Freikorps crew box (when I already have all the freikorps) JUST to get the steam trunk. I really do want the steam trunk though for my crew as it's a nice totem.

 

Anyway just wondering if anyone knows if Wyrd will add it to be buyable separately in the store eventually or what?

Which box is the steam trunk in?  (The Wyrd webstore is still recovering from GenCon, and the other store I checked I can find a box with it listed...)

 

If the steam trunk is on a sprue with another model, it's really unlikely that it'll be offered separately.  But it's fairly common to find people selling individual parts of plastic kits (or even metal kits) for other games.  So you could be able to find just the steam trunk and card available somewhere.

@Animal, the thread that Nohero is referencing points to a "No" separate availability from the company. It is disappointing to say the least though hopefully something that can change.

 

@Solkan, A secondary market doesn't really exist for these miniatures.

I suggest using a proxy or building your own. Finding something suitable should be pretty easy.

Is there a reason to ever field more than 2 Freikorpsmenn? What about 2 Librarians or 2 Specialists or 2 Trappers?  I don't play Von Schill (yet), so I don't really know.  If there is, you may be able to find someone willing to grab a couple of Von Schill's boxes to get started, which would leave them with an extra Steam Trunk they can't properly use.

The general rule of thumb is no. If it's a master specific totem such as Von Schill's Steam Trunk then you have 3 options. 1) Bite the bullet and buy the plastic set, 2) hope for a seller on eBay etc or 3) build, proxy or convert your own. Faction generic totems appear to be the only ones available as a single.

I think the Librarian will be in high demand, being a mercenary healer and all that. I don't think a lot of people would want to start with two Von Schill boxes, more something you might want down the line for special builds if you really like Freikorps. A more typical start would be the box plus Lazarus, Hannah, Strongarm and that's a fair amount of points to play with.

I very much doubt you'd be able to buy the Steamtrunk separately because it can only be used with Von Schill. In fact the only totem that doesnt have to be with the master it is packaged with is the Student of Conflict.

Which is true for many minis. I have all the resser masters and all the NB ones except Lucius, and because of how the game worked last edition I'm missing many of the models that are only sold in the starter packs now. I don't have Sebastian, Philip, the new Ikiryo, Vassilisa, Bad Juju, the Daydreams, or Barbaros. In many cases those models either did not exist last edition, or were so bad it wasn't worth buying them, so I didn't. I'm bit pretty hard my this because there is pretty much no way I'll ever acquire those minis short of buying those boxed sets, and I don't have the funds to do so.

 

I totally understand that there is no way Wyrd is going to make everyone happy with their marketing, and while I think it sucks for me, and others in my situation it just is what it is. The only thing that has really disappointed me is that there hasn't seemed to be much of a bits market, which I very much expected. In general I've found many online stores will often buy a product and then crack it open and sell the bits inside for enough to give them a profit margin on the whole thing, but giving good value to players who only wanted one mini from the box for whatever reason. That hasn't happened for whatever reason, and that I think makes the situation harder.

I'll not wade into the rightness or wrongness of Wyrd's strategy, but if you want to make a proxy how about a chest from Zealot and a set of tracks from Zinge.  I don't have a metal Von Schill crew, but I'm not keen on the previews of the plastic model shown so far.  For myself, I'm thinking of using a set of tracks & boggies from a 1/48 WWII german Goliath from an old Tamiya kit I have in the bits box.

Great recommendation on the parts up there RWWIN. That'll make a fairly good proxie, to bad Wyrd doesn't benefit at all from pushing people to scratch build models. Especially since there are people that are willing to pay for them if they were available individually.
