  1. Unfortunately I remember getting pretty confused when I was learning the game because of that. The word "flip" is both usednfor the act of revealing a card from the deck and determining a value by using the deck. The issue is when these are not the same thing, like you just pointed out
  2. Is there any action/ability in the game that gives or soecifically to flips? If there is, I'd argue a flip is the act of turning X cards to get a value. Otherwise, having something apply a modifier that changes the number of cards you turn to something that specifically means "to turn a single card" would be paradoxical
  3. Remember that taxidermists were utter garbage when they were released? Then someone started saying they weren't and now it's a general consensus they're pretty good. And there was no errata/buff to them. It was just internet opinion. When you lurk long enough you just learn to take most posts as opinions, or in other words, with a moderately large grain of salt. My exception are @Dogmantra and @Math Mathonwy posts because they try to keep their posts as informative as possible, with a balanced view on their opinions
  4. The concept of duel is very well defined in the basic rulebook. I don't know the page, but the explanation is something along the lines of: if you're flipping against a certain value, its a duel. Simple duels are flips against a TN, while opposed duels are flips that are against another flip (usually from the opposing player)
  5. Well, as someone who started with somer and now has all the masters, I can tell you my experience. In my experience somer is a great box to have, but not a good solo buy. You will want to get at least a couple more boxes like extra bayou gremlins and slop haulers. I believe Ophelia's crew box is better as a starting crew if you don't want to buy extra models right away, and I've had good results when lending my Ophelia to new players to try the game.
  6. In my opinion, the cost increase on Burt and franc were expectable. The McTavish increase, not so much, but if I'm committing to bring him, I'll bring him at 10 or 11 SS. I always liked the mech porkchops as a model that is not resource intensive, even for 7ss. Its problem was the competition in the 7SS bracket. Now I'll definitely bring it more often. I am very interested in the survivors now, as I always struggled to justify bringing them instead of other alternatives. I really think that the Raphael cost decrease was wyrd throwing us a consolation prize for the increases in enforcer/henchmen costs. The model was already good, but now is almost an autotake

    Roosters

I still enjoy using a rooster as a missile every once in a while. Their 15' charge range means that they can start on a flank and switch to the middle of the board at any time. Just be sure you have them surrounded by your enemies. That way you will have one more thing to pressure your opponent. Anyone that has had a rooster rampage and kill 2 or 3 models of their crew on an activation KNOWS that if you attack a rooster, you must finish it!
  8. Thanks, that's exactly the type of feedback I was looking for. I had seen the videos, but was trying to find an opinion from some hobbyist that had tried em on malifaux miniatures. I will get a set, but it will probably be the one to paint regular caucasian and dark skin. I am already happy with my recipe for gremlin skin I do intend to eventually start dabbing into blends, so it helps to have paints that are naturally better at it. You didn't try their metallics by any chance? I thought I was happy with mine, but they might have dried a bit (time to use omenbringers recipe ) and their coverage is now terrible and they are not mixing no matter how much I shake em (citadel ones)
  9. This might be slightly offtopic, but has anyone tried the warcolours line? They seem pretty nice and I've had a set of them in the shopping basket for some time, but haven't take the plunge just yet
  10. I only had the chance to field one of them once, so my practice with them is low. However, as @Math Mathonwy said, I do find them a good option to have available when attacking df is not reasonable. Plus, in the right schemes the extra mobility is pretty sweet
  11. I also had those and I totally thought it was part of the models... Good news is they're not very noticeable after painted, if at all
  12. I'm with you on merris. You just gotta make sure she doesn't die in the middle of your crew, but that's relatively easy to ensure
  13. We already have the war wabbit for the warpig, so maybe an alt sow or old major, to keep the theme going? Whatever it is though, I will probably get it lol
  14. I wanted to disagree with you (because, well pigapult is cool), but the more I think about it, the more I agree with you... Pigapult + 3 bayou gremlins for placement = 17ss 6bayou gremlins = 18ss. Sure, it is easier to place them in weird places with pigapult, but the activation advantage+ AP advantage is way better. Not to mention the pigapult has no ammo in this comparison
  15. In my experience the pigapult is one of those models that you really have to build your list around it. While it only costs 8SS, the pigapult doesn't work by itself. You need pigs to sacrifice as ammo if you intend to shoot enemies, or plenty of ht1 models to be thrown across the table. It is a very fun miniature, but if you want a model to fill those 10ss left at the end of a crew list, it is a bad choice (unless your other 40ss are ht1 gremlins and the scheme pool really favors dispersion. In that case it can be hilarious). My experience with the pigapult using stuffed piglet as ammo has been underwhelming. It's OK to burn some cards out of your opponent's hand, maybe, but that's it.
  16. Well, I've yet to play malifaux in a competitive event, but I try to avoid running claim jump as it is so... boring? unimaginative? But I still like going scheme marker schemes. Merris can drop 2 markers very close to one another, and she can still drop 2 markers and cover a lot of ground ignoring terrain. I particularly like her with ulix since it makes summoning a warpig a lot easier (2 close markers and card cycling if your hand is that crappy) plus she brings some blast immunity to the table. However, I never use her offensively. It is never worth it. Sorry @Math Mathonwy, I believe we are derailing the thread to the wrong lacroix
  17. I usually take merris when it comes to scheme running, but I must try raph more often. Sure, merris is squisht, but flight is great to keep her hidden while she darts behind enemy lines. It usually backfires when the opponent dedicates someone to chase her though
  18. Oh I definitely agree with you there! What I am trying to say here is that this might be the first step towards a bigger plan to fix our internal balance. It might not go the way we would like though
  19. Well, the fliying piglets didn't get any better per se, they just look less worse because the most common comparison was stuffed were just cheaper and a better choice most of the time. Now, if you are even pondering hiring a stuffed, you will also ponder the flying piglets. To be totally honest, although I feel 3SS is more than I'm willing to pay for a stuffed, the fact is that stuffed were present in almost all the gremlin lists. And Wyrd is targetting all the auto includes in the game. So it was a matter of time. At the moment, sure, gremlins are in a worse situation. But I'm a generally positive person and I am hopeful it changes with the upcoming GG2018 and master upgrades, since the new models did not impress me much besides having great sculpts
  20. To be fair, this fix seems like it was planned for quite sometime now. Remember the open playtest feedback about the fiying piglet? The main complaint about it was its price vs the stuffed piglets. I believe this is probably one of the main reasons this was the fix for the stuffed.
  21. Well, the most stuffeds I'd hire in a crew were in pigapults lists. Are they any good as ammo? Not really, but they were cheap. I would still throw some along with other ht1 targets, or use a stuffed for 1 turn to shoot at something with low df and hope to burn a couple good cards from my opponents hand. With this change I'll actually start considering piglets as ammo (or using the pigapult a lot less, which is to say, maybe once or twice a year lol) because i can get 2 turns of goof shooting for 1ss less than 3 turns of crappy shooting

    Help me!

I cannot say much from a competitive PoV since i only have about 4 casual games with Z(Zoraida). What I can say is that I believe McT (McTavish) is amazing as her bodyguard: McT rifle does not randomize into engagements and gains +1 to duel total for every swampfiend in LoS and 6'' of the target. Z is a swampfiend, so McT will be adding at least +1 when shooting at someone threatening Z. edit: note that this is a trigger with the suit imbued, but cant be countered by trigger shutdown Z has "Proper Manners: All attack flips performed by enemy models targeting this model receive unless they benefit from focus". McT has "Penetrating stench: enemy models within 6 may not take the focus or defensive stance actions". So with McT close by it is much harder to actually hit Z. This is even more true if McT uses his hunting screen McT also gives everyone around him cover to non melee attacks. That means spells no longer ignore cover. Z can obey McT onto attacking once more Even if you don't bring any other swampfiends (which I believe you should bring at least a will o' wisp, but that is a topic for another post), I believe there is plenty of sinergy here. Sure, 10SS is a lot for a bodyguard, but McT is worth every SS in there, even without all the possible synergy between them
  23. Iron skeeters only work for ht1 models, but I keep forgetting the pig ladder. That is a great idea to make him more mobile. I believe, as @EnternalVoid (not@Omenbringer , but I can't seem to delete this mention in mobile) just said, that you must build a list around it, kind of like with pigapult, otherwise his weaknesses are easily exploited
  24. I use both Vallejo model color/game color and citadel paints. Both have tones that you can't find on the other paint lines
