  1. The best demo kit is actually the starter set. The scenarios in the quick start rulebook are great for teaching someone the basics of Malifaux. I would go from one scenario to the next. You can definitely get through the first 3 in an hour or two.
  2. Shenlong and crew. Hand them fast and focus and they can shoot for the brilliance cloud then charge and have that sweet, sweet +2 damage.
  3. Tablewar cases are the way to go. They're completely modular, so you don't to worry about buying new foam when new models come out. The models are secured using magnets, so there's no pressure on fragile bits. You can put a sheet of metal in the bottom of the slide out trays, and then glue rare earth magnets in the bottom of your models' bases. Another option is to cut out a cardboard bottom for the pullout tray, and cover it with a magnetic sheet that you can get at Walmart or Michaels for a couple of bucks. The connection isn't as strong, but it's surprisingly strong for light plastic models. I have almost the entire Ten Thunders faction in the half size case and I still have room to spare. I can fit the Shadow Emissary and Jorogumo on a shelf and still have room for another shelf in there. http://www.tablewar.com/categories/Cases/
  4. Misaki against Seamus netted a win for Ten Thunders in the Rampage scenario. Here's to hoping for a werewolf monk!
  5. Lynch: I was listening to a podcast, and apparently TT Lynch is very notorious in the UK. As in people see him as very powerful. I think all of the ways TT can have positive flips really help Lynch. Plus TT brothers. Mei Feng: There are enough constructs in TT as well as other factions (via foundry keyword) that I think Mei Feng does just as well in TT as she does as Arcanists. I don't think either faction is a bad choice. McCabe: He has access to better minions in TT which makes TT the better choice over Guild imo. Yan Lo: He works fairly independently of his crew, so I don't think it really matters which faction he's run as. Brewmaster: I have no experience with him Misaki: The other Outcast masters are generally always better choices over Misaki. I feel like I mostly see Misaki run as TT. I don't really have enough tabletop experience with her to know if she is better as Outcasts or TT.
  6. Your opponent will probably bring Bandidos with Parker. They are incredibly obnoxious because of their Df trigger. The trigger allows the bandido to push 5 inches in any direction after resolving. I can't remember the suit needed, but the trigger is so obnoxious. Either bring Wp attacks or bring Ohaguro Bettari to block the triggers. I'll echo the 10T brothers. They prevent Parker for discarding your own scheme markers to use against you. The 10T brother will be a high priority target for Parker though.
  7. I listened to the podcast that the Malifools had with Justin and I noted down some information on Asami's totem. I think it's going to be a super fun model. If any of the below information is incorrect, let me know. It's a typical totem in cost and its insignificant. But it has disguise and manipulation. It has a cast action that can increase a model's condition by +1. But this action can only affect a model once per turn. Note that it's any condition with a + value. It works on an enemy model with poison or burning and such. It also has a melee attack that does 1/2/3 damage and if the enemy crew is winning, it adds +1 damage per VP up to a maximum of +2 damage. I believe this is okay to share considering Justin shared this on the podcast that is publicly available.
  8. Samurai ignore armor on their melee attacks only, and it's not based on a trigger if I recall correctly. As stated above, glowing saber ignores armor and several other rules baked into the melee action. Those are the only two that I can think of that are 100% reliable.
  9. It's pronounced chee-lin. Qi in Mandarin is a chee sound like in cheese. I'm super excited for that model!
  10. Oh I see my mistake now. I missed the last part of the last sentence in the Ace In the Hole ability, even when I went and read it again and even typed it out. >.<
  11. That's incorrect. Here's the wording of the "Ace In the Hole" ability: "When an Ace from the Crew's deck would be placed in the discard pile during another friendly model's Activation, this model may place it in its hand instead after the action resolves." According to Step 5 of the Simple Duel Sequence on pg. 23, "Once success or failure is determined, the cards in use are discarded, and then the results of the success or failure are resolved." The trigger, "Mongoose Style" says: "After succeeding, this model may choose to either draw a card and then discard a card, or heal 2 damage." According to Step 4 of the Simple Duel Sequence on pg. 22 regarding triggers, "After succeeding: These effects are resolved after Step 5, and only if the model wins the duel." The Ace of is cheated in during step 3. Step 4, the trigger is declared. Step 5, success is determined and the ace is discarded. Ace In the Hole kicks in and is placed in the hand. Then the results of the success, i.e. the trigger, are resolved. I draw a card, and then discard a card, using the ace again and picking it back up.
  12. Ten Thunders Brothers are a good reason to play Lynch as TT. If you can get an ace of rams in your hand, then you can get one extra card a turn per ten thunders brother. Activate the brother, use dance of the heavens, cheat in the ace of rams for the draw one card discard one card trigger, pick the ace back up after discarding, draw a card, then discard the ace of ram again and pick it back up. Not to mention all of the other triggers on dance of the heavens. I haven't played Neverborn Lynch yet, so there are probably similar tricks. Samurai also love being in a Lynch crew. Samurai have a shooting attack. That shooting attack is a really great way to burn through your deck to find the aces.
  13. Pleasantly surprised but very pleased to see a preview of the new masters' cards! Thanks for giving us more information!
  14. I had a positive experience with Clousseau. He was easy to work with and I received the item quickly and in good condition.
  15. They're Ten Thunders only but they are Last Blossom models so Misaki can hire them in an Outcasts crew.
  16. I think Solkan is correct here. Two example scenarios that I think add to the illustration they are making: A model within Sensei Yu's aura has focus +1. 1. Model declares the Charge action has uses the focus +1. 2. Model gains for the remainder of the action. Model gains +1 to duel totals for the remainder of the action. 3. Model moves up to its charge distance to engage enemy model. 4. As per the FAQ, the charge action has ended, therefore the and the +1 to duel totals has also ended. The +1 to duel totals has ended because the ability states it lasts for the remainder of the action. The charge action does not continue while the 2 attack actions are done. The charge action ends, and then the 2 attack actions begin. Same situation, except a model is already engaged with an enemy model that has terrify. 1. Model declares an attack action and uses the focus +1. 2. Model gains to the attack action. Model gains +1 to duel totals for the remainder of the action. 3. Enemy model requires a horror duel. The attack action still has not been completed, so the +1 to duel totals would still apply. 4. Assuming the friendly model passed the horror duel, the model then continues with the attack action. Model still has the and +1 to duel totals. 5. The attack action has ended and the and the +1 to duel totals also ends, because the action has ended.
  17. Yeah it's not worth a lot haha. I don't want the models or any of the other things in the starter set. I just want the quick start rules. It's a weird trade request I know.
  18. No I mean the one that is an intro to the game. It has like 4 or 5 missions that build on each other and they teach a new player the game.
  19. I'm looking for the quick start rules manual from the 2e starter set. I'm in the USA in Oregon, and I can pay via Paypal.
  20. I'm trying to get my brothers and sister-in-law to play Malifaux, and I'm hoping there's a group in Rexburg, ID I can point them to. I live in another state, unfortunately, so I don't know what the scene is like in Idaho.
  21. Thanks! I think a combination of the two. I definitely played some things badly. And I sometimes picked some schemes that in hindsight were poor choices. As far as my crew selection went, I'm not sure. I don't know if I have enough experience against the Viks to really know if I didn't choose a good list or not. Most of the matches had a hold the center type strategy. Or at least a strategy that involved going to the center of the board. And the scary damage Vik was taking apart my crew. And the last match, I won the flip to choose attacker/defender. I should have chosen defender. I'm also glad you suggested the Lone Swordsman. I picked him up on your suggestion. I wasn't sure if I'd use him, but I ended up adding him to my list for the tournament and I love the Lone Swordsman. He got me 3 VP my first match because Rasputina destroyed him and he was my Frame For Murder target. And the other games he sliced and diced things up. So thanks for the recommendation!
  22. It went well! There were 5 rounds. I won the first and the third round and lost the other 3. I played arcanists (rasputina), Zoraida (I don't know her faction), outcasts (Viks), outcasts (Viks), and ten thunders (Misaki) I learned a ton and had a blast. All of my opponents were awesome. And I'm glad I bought Shenlong because he's a lot of fun. My list each game was Shenlong with wandering Peasant Yu with disciple 2x katanaka snipers Izamu with recalled Lone swordsman with recalled These were the only models I could get painted in time
  23. Thanks for the advice everyone! I'm really excited for the event and I've started getting my stuff painted.
