  1. When you're playing and you do physically remove that wind corner and there's just a blank space everyone's looking at, it really does give that feeling of "We're just a little more screwed than normal, gents! Nice knowing you!" I do hope Wyrd can put the characters out as minis somehow. Alt malifaux models, some weird Other Side tie in, don't care. They're all great artwork that could be awesome with some Wyrd plastic treatment. Hoping for Chronicles in the future to have new character cards, too!
  2. Love this model overall, would be getting it anyway if it was halfway decent but this is an easy buy. The robe I'm fine with, there are loads of tutorials out there on roughing up the texture in various ways (Tabletop Minions liquid greenstuff comes to mind right away) if you're looking for a rougher look, and I'd rather have to make it rough than have to make it smooth. The part I havent' decided if I'm liking or not is the belts with the small surgical equipment attached (somehow?) to the underside of the wing. It an interesting embellishment, I just can't help but wonder why those bits don't dangle downward with gravity. Can't be unseen and all that (sorry). I have a feeling that's grow on me as I look at it more, we'll see. One way or the other, box it up, take my money.
  3. I've kinda got the sense that these special, one off projects, are done with a kind of 'because they make us happy' or 'because we want to' (in an opening a door to Narnia kind of way, not an evil overlord way) mentality, which, considering the roots of the company and that it keeps the developers refreshed and coming up with new ideas, I'm pretty fine with. Would I want the releases to be closer to when we get the books for them? Sure, of course. But when the other extreme of that is witnessed by other practiced-production line companies obviously interested in nothing but the bottom line and customer-be-damned, I'll take this problem rather than that one. Granted, I've got whole crews that still haven't seen light of day from Black Friday, so I'm sure I'm biased. As for the new models, I like the feel of them. The twisted fairy-tale isn't exactly Malifaux, except maybe via Dreamer, but it is a unique look that could work well for their own setting. Kind of like the limited edition transparent models, though, I'd like to see full base crews with a few extra models done up to all look unified on the table. Glowy Kirai would look so much more awesome with glowy Datsue-Ba and some gaki/shikome as well, as would a full twisted-Asian-fairytail Yan Lo Ancestors and Retainers set.
  4. Aaron, if you could just slip that in Nathan's forum signature, that'd be great, because... every. damn.. time... Cool minis, by the way.. loving Izamu!
  5. Guys, really? -------------- I think the end result is that Ressers overall become weaker, when they don't need to become weaker. (They also don't need to be stronger, just to toss that out there.) There's a lot of how other models in the faction are built that is based on the idea of what Belles bring to the table as they are now. Weakening that takes a noticeable (not overwhelming, but definitely there) bit of oomph out of the effectiveness of the faction. Would they survive, sure. I'd say the migration ressers make to other models, other strategies, and different masters within faction would be more pronounced than what arcanists went through with Metal Gamin, but in the end they'd still be serviceable on the table, shining sometimes and losing spectacularly others (not that I know anything about that part). Whatever grade you currently give them, I'd knock about 5-10% off that score when looking at the faction as a whole.
  6. That first shirt brings a small tear to my eye. It truly is a great time to be alive in the Golden Age of Yan Lo. I pretty much have to have those. Lets see.. you need a shirt that says Lead Lined Shirt and costs just a little bit more than the other equivalent shirts. Okay, probably not. I'll leave the ideas to others.
  7. From Twisting Fates pg 11: "The circular saw blade mounted flat against its abdomen came free from its safety locks and spun, cutting through the air." Interesting. At least it's a possible reason why the blade can't be seen from the angle presented.
  8. There are a few effects that add or take away suits beyond your starting value and the flipped card you choose, such as with Lenny(? is that right, I don't gremlin) or Sonnia. The Riders add an additional suit for each turn after the first, so 4 extra crows on turn 5 for the Dead Rider's actions.
  9. How has no one asked what the heck the guy on the last page is yet? What setting is that? Doesn't look Malifaux, at least nothing like the standard areas we've heard of. Different art style and feel from what we've seen of The Other Side so far. Doesn't fit Darkness Comes Rattling. Not a single jetpack unicorn.
  10. Yes, yes!!!! Great article. Always respect for someone that's willing to give something a shot to challenge their beliefs, even just for Malifaux. I enjoyed my time playing Yan as a Resser and have a feeling when I get around to the one or two TT masters I want to try, I'll probably like Yan on the TT side even more than Ressers. I've always liked that he can react to the opposing crew you are presented with by which upgrades you go for, and do that without playing a reactionary game rather than playing offensively to your own tempo, whether that's with Yan as part of the offense, or supporting it.
  11. Little baby Land of the Lost Sleestack? That's a win in my book, even if it does show my age. And I'm pretty sure what mom is doing is something along the lines of "If one of you tracks slime onto my freshly washed floor, it'll be the last thing you do!" Also, I like the sculpt, but now I want to change my Miss Model vote to a male Spawn Mother, Mrs. Doubtfire.
  12. We're kinda going through a change, where a bunch of people are switching to new masters. Jack Daw/Von Shill/Hamelin player has moved to Shen Long. Colette/Raspy/Ramos is doing Jakob Lynch and a bit of Dreamer, another Outcast/little bit of everything player has focused on Ophelia/Wong, Sonnia/perdita will be moving to McCabe, and me playing mostly Molly/Yan Lo with some Tara will be starting Mei Feng and Kaeris. We also have a Marcus player and Lucius/Hoffman player that sounds like they'll be sticking with those, and a few others that don't play as often or are just starting. I guess new years lead to new masters.
  13. Maybe if you can think of a situation where specifically ashigaru or komainu are something you'd want on the board, like wanting ashigaru to help push enemies out of turf war or something. Ashigaru are undead and trigger Ikiryo, and Komainu are spirits I believe? So it's not like they have no synergy, the effort of getting to that synergy might not be worth it, when Kirai could just be summoning something herself. Having multiple summoning points on the table that your opponent will have to account for can't be a bad thing, and even if he's not summoning, Toshiro pulls some good weight. Having a hard to kill node for Kirai's summoning off of Ashigaru isn't the worst thing, either. I'd say it's worth a try or two, in the right situation. Could be one of those things that just clicks, for the right person.
  14. Poor old 4 wound Bete isn't very happy either, honestly. Two hits at weak damage, or 1 severe, and poof. The marker movement, that's one of those abilities that people will be coming up with awesome ideas for in specific games. Could be a real game changer.
  15. Being able to attack buried models will be a welcome addition to many crews in specific situations, many of which involve Papa and a box. Add that to the scheme marker manipulation and targeted fast for the cost of a card, this guy could be pretty solid. I can think of a lot of low cost models that would love fast, and a lot of low-mid cards that just got much more useful. Also, I like the new model/card being made available away from the normal book release schedule. Would like to see more of this in the future.
  16. I was thinking this is what leads us Resurrectionists to delving to that next, more secret, more powerful treasure trove of old musty tomes. Just when you think you have the final, biggest secret, some close minded soul keeps you from it! Curses, foiled again! Don't think this is the last you've heard of me! I'll be back!!!!! I may be a little too in character, lately.
  17. Between different places online and in person, I've already heard that the Lure question (#22) means: This answer overrides the cards text, so now lured models no longer have to end as close as possible, and now have to move 'the shortest route' meaning directly towards. Even if you'd get closer moving around some severe terrain that's directly between the two, you don't do that any more. FAQ questions are not to be broadly applied. This question only covers luring that ends in base contact. If it does, this only says it can't use any extra move it may have to end in a different position other than directly towards the luring model.Lure works like always, you figure the closest spot a model could get to. and this FAQ now clarifies that if there are 2 ways to get to the same closest spot, you have to take the shorter way to get there, and you can't use movement trying to get around the side of the luring model. That's just the stuff I've seen in a few hours since this was released, from just a few online sources, and only the more coherent interpretations. It amazes me how easily things can be interpreted in different ways, and I don't envy Justin or anyone that has to do this kind of thing for a game. Unfortunately, other than maybe a greater availability of diagrams and examples (a segment in the Chronicles, perhaps), I don't think there's really a solution. Questions with clear answers are often still frequent around here, and what is clear to one person probably isn't to someone else.
  18. Ah, the eternal rites of Spring, when a young man's fancy turns to... plastic?
  19. That's the point though. We were going through options for each faction, and while some have options... of varying usefulness, others have very little card control like that. Makes it really difficult for a fixed faction tournament per se. Going for whatever options you have to force a discard is one option, but valhallan is also referring to just plain old attacking Kirai. All those attacks you're throwing at the newly summoned stuff, just throw it at Kirai. Make them choose between having the cards to summon and keeping her alive. Even if she uses her tricks and her wounds don't drop nearly as much as you'd want, or as much as other models would, if it causes her to spend that card on defense, that's one less guy in your face later in the game. It's pretty much the same for all the summoners. Yes, Kirai has Ikiryo as a response, but if you plan out those attacks and where they're coming from, you make your opponent have to make even more (hopefully bad) choices about sending Ikiryo into a less advantageous position, or suck up some damage initially to get her out in a better place later.
  20. Even at Nova, the big malifaux Championships, it was all about getting the TO to approve your conversion. They seem to use the doc as a guideline, and certainly as something to fall back on when needing to explain their decisions. Mostly though, for both the TOs and my opponents, it felt like the question was "Does the model look close enough that a reasonable person won't misinterpret who it is", with maybe for the TOs, a bit of "Is it not a greenstuffed space marine?" thrown in there.
  21. Have used him in 2 campaign games so far, and the punch of that shotgun/slug trigger has proven very useful so far, as has the 6" place on his 0. The 4" aura has proven to be both very useful and very painful, a smart opponent with a great method of moving him around (say something like Lust, who apparently doesn't give a damn about Anna or her dress but that's another story), can really cause you some headaches. If you think you'll have good use for his points on the outskirts, or definite ways to keep him where you want him, I say he's worth a look.
  22. Sloth's is "After this model fails", so lots of examples of different times they can fire.
  23. I always have to do this weird few steps of math in my head when I deal with this. Reduce all damage this model suffers by half.So if damage is five, half the damage is 2.5.Always round up, so the 2.5 becomes 3.Reduce the(all damage) 5 by the (half)3. So the damage should be 2. EXCEPT: Override all that because every other person tells me it's wrong, so it must be wrong, so whatever I think the right answer is, it's the other one..So the damage I take is 3. The short answer is "Which number is worse for me.. that's how much damage I take"
  24. Not sure I should even be venturing into this topic because when I hear vantage point and LoS and cover all in one sentence my brain goes fuzzy, but if the idea is to have the sniper in cover.. couldn't you just declare the whole of the snipers nest (whether it's an actual shelter or just the small patch of elevated ground he's standing on) as soft cover, having nothing to do with the wall? Model the wall as less than an inch tall so that it's there and looks good, but defines as a height of 0 and purely ornamental with no terrain traits. But it's there, it looks like it's there, and he's in cover. The LoS lines still go through the cover, which your guy is certainly within.
  25. Okay, I'm not one to rush and buy plastics just because they're out when I have the metals, and I do have the metal Autopsies. But that guy.. he's got character in spades (rather, in crows), and I will definitely be buying this set. Who doesn't need 6 Guild Autopsies, anyway??? A+
