  1. Dear dead Diary, Day #1: Today I've bought my first Malifaux core box. Someone else was a bit quicker and snatched the cheaper M2E Seamus box, so a different master it shall be for now. All the good advice in my forum threads won't be for nought though, they just will come handy later. I've settled for von Schtook instead, looks like a good start for newbies. To me it's at least funny to play a crew lead by a professor and his undead staff/students. That's like my everyday life. Also bought a box of Necropunks. Someone should advice Wyrd on German language though. Or declare the Prof. a Brit. Day #2-3: I've assembled all models and created their bases. Switched to "normal" lipped bases, I like Wyrd's lower ones, but just in case I'm going to used sculpted bases one day, I don't want them to look differently. But for now I create the basing myself. Don't want to overload their bases, as fancy as this can look, for gaming miniatures I think it's important to focus on the models themselves. Step 1: cast stony sheets with rough surface out of dental plaster (forgot to add glue, guess I'll have to live with the material being a bit brittle) Step 2: graveyard decoration always works for undead, so I sculpt a few small gravestone out of milliput Step 3: decide to glue single prepared pavement stones, works well but will switch to sculpting the pavement directly on the base in the future again Step 4: add sand and pin models to the base WIP PICTURES: Step 5, filling the few gaps the models have, is still pending. But my friend, future opponent and also a beginner, still has to fully assembled his crew. So no need to rush. The painting scheme is already planned, as I like to use gaming models to train myself in new or rarely used techniques, I'll combine underpainting and sketch style for my Ressers crew. Main colours will be cold tones from blue to green. In miniature painting you can't avoid to also use warm tones if you want realistic colour choices and e.g. brown you can rarely avoid. Instead I'll desaturate those to lessen their optical impact. As I plan to use strong shadows, the blending to the zenithal highlights will be a challenge though, especially on such slim models. Sidenote for you, Diary, I could have written in multiple different books, but collecting painting, battle reports and general rumblings in one place is much easier to handle. I think you're the best place for that. See you soon sweet dead Diary.
  2. I am trying to write a blog where I document the games I play. Trying is very fitting here as I haven't really updated it in half a year. It isn't very comprehensive, but it is a nice tool for reflecting on the games and find out if I made any mistakes in list-building or playing. Yesterday, I played a game against Kirai: https://malifauxtattler.blogspot.com/2019/08/lady-justice-vs-kirai.html
  3. So I haven't painted in so long that I feel like I've forgotten how to....I know there are plenty of tutorials on techniques out there, but I was wondering - any step-by-step tutorials or blogs on painting Malifaux minis out there? I know there are heaps on some of the bigger/older systems, but any on Malifaux? Just to get a real idea on how a look was achieved. Unfortunately I have Vallejo Game Colour - the colours are a bit too garish for my liking for malifaux. I think all the best work tends to be muted colours, but I'm not buying a stack of new paints for that, so I'll need to search through the painting forum for pics of minis I like with garish colours
  4. Hi folks, After a long hiatus, "Play It Like Beatdown", my blog about playing Malifaux badly, returns! In the olden days it was pretty much all about playing Marcus, but recently I've mixed things up a bit and started using Kaeris, plus I've got Sandeep on the way too. So if you want something to read which is certainly not going to make you the world Malifaux champion, why not stop by? https://playitlikebeatdown.wordpress.com/ Enjoy Dave/sssk
  5. Finally got around to trying to work out Nicodem. I'm going to try and share what I learn along the way http://abnormalifaux.blogspot.co.uk/2016/06/hes-re-animator-twisted-re-animator.html
  6. I have another thread about my Blog but since I'm no longer doing the Rainbow challenge, I thought I'd start afresh. So for those who don't know (and who also care for such things!), I've got a blog! It's almost entirely Malifaux related but I'll be throwing some non-Malifaux pieces in there on occasion. Link is here; http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/ ...and here's what I've been up to lately; Gencon Guide Something I wrote up after my experiences at Gencon last year. Was lots of fun, and I'm hoping anyone attending for the first time this year will find it useful. http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2015/01/rathnards-gencon-guide.html "Year" of the Crow After my Rainbow challenge last year I've now decided to commit to a single faction this year, specifically Ressers - the Faction I'm least familiar with. Unfortunately I didn't like the Ressers much, so after a few months I moved on to other things; http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2015/01/yet-another-new-years-resolution-blog.html http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2015/01/year-of-crow-seamus.html http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2015/06/rage-quitting-die-crow-die.html Year of the Thunder After quitting Ressers I've now set my eyes on a faction that better Matches my tendency to want all the things - Ten Thunders. My latest post is more of a retrospective on 2015, but it serves to round out my Ten Thunders adventures for the moment; http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2015/07/needs-moar-thunder-rathnards-new-faction.html http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2015/09/10-t-misaki-head-removalist.html http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2015/12/10-t-yan-lo-apology.html http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2016/01/2015-rathnards-year-of-rage-quit.html Tale of Malifaux Bloggers (#ToMB2) Psientologist started a new "Tale of" blog, so I thought I'd join in with an unusual take on the good Dr McMourning. With my latest post the ToMB is now finished for me, and I have an awesome new McMourning crew as a result! http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2015/01/tomb-2015-month-0.html http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2015/02/tomb-2015-month-1-bayou-doctor-is-born.html http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2015/02/tomb-2015-month-1b-forensic-pathologist.html http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2015/03/tomb-month-2-fun-with-poison.html http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2015/03/tomb-month-2b-pigs-and-pigtails.html http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2015/04/tomb2-month-3-dirty-rotten-cheater.html http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2015/05/tomb2-month-3b-john-carpenter.html http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2015/05/tomb-month-4-full-mcmourning.html Year of the Rainbow In 2014 I attempted to play and have painted crews for every Master in the game. It's now on hold but if you want to know how it went, check out the posts below, or just look at just about anything I wrote in 2014. http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2014/12/end-of-rainbow.html http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2014/12/end-of-rainbow-awards-time.html http://rathnard.blogspot.com.au/2015/03/state-of-collection-march-2015.html (not part of the challenge, but it does show just how much I've painted as a result!)
  7. Hey I have only played a few games of Malifaux. I'd say about six or so. Anyway, I am collecting Gremlins as I like the models and so far loving how they play. But I just want opinion on what I usually take. As I don't have a lot compared to what some my mates have. I shall list the models I have got, and then list what I usually take for a 35ss game. What I have; Ophelia's box set So'mer Teeth's box set Lenny McTavish I usually play about 35ss games with Ophelia as my hence man. Which gives me a total of 42ss to play with. So here is what I usually take. Ophelia (Henchman) Pere Rapael Francois Rami - My personal favourite mostly Warpig Bayou Gremlin Bayou Gremlin Lenny or McTavish I will say now that it probably won't be the best, and it is not kitted out to anything specific as I don't know the full ins and outs of the game yet, just so you know. So what I am after is really second opinions on what I usually take. I have heard that there are two main ways you can go with Gremlins. Which is either gun line or pig line. And so far I am loving bringing a fair number of guns to bear. Put with reckless can be nasty. So, what you lot think? And any ideas of what I could mix it up with and such, and what supporting units will be useful to me? --- EDIT --- 31/01/13 --- 13:20 GMT --- Thread title changed? *Fingers corssed* ... Damn!!!

  13. Hey guys, it seems that there are a ton of new Malifaux blogs popping up lately. Our London group started our blog back in November and it's going pretty strong I think. The one issue I see in the Malifaux blog community is a lack of interconnectivity. Back when I was playing 40k I always went through blogrolls on the blogs I liked to find new blogs to read. I find that in the Malifaux community we are not connected anywhere near as well and I think it is time to start changing that. I would like to start linking Abnormalifaux to other blogs both by creating a blogroll on our site and also hopefully being included on a blogroll on the sites of others. This way we can help grow and expand our online community rather than continuing to be isolated. As for the older blogs which are more connected to eachother, it would be nice to get you involved in this as well by expanding your blog rolls and being added to the blogrolls of new sites. The more we connect the more we grow Hope other people are as interested in this as I am. For reference our blog is http://abnormalifaux.blogspot.co.uk
