Huggy is a henchman?!?

Doesnt that go against the whole backstory

Not really. According to the book 4 story, Huggy requires a symbiotic relationship with lynch in order to break the one it had to the decayed bones of a previous partner. Huggy chose to form such bonds in order to hide its presence from other tyrants. As his own power grows now he has a mobile host, becoming more active, occasionally, might well be necessary to fulfil his goals.

Note, Jacob and Huggy have. A link, but this does not prevent lynch from taking another totem if he wishes, or limiting his movement around malifaux.

Besides, this brings him into line with the Viks, who now have a master-henchman relationship in the rules, and I'd place bets that the dreamer/chompy relationship will be similar.

it does, but only when lynch is around and even then, it makes some sense.

the way i see it is that HD is a henchman to lynch in that Huggy supplies and facilitates the Brilliance stock at the Honeypot, for Lynch. And, when Huggy leads a crew (can he?) its that it is working under its own devices and plots.

EDIT: Joel said it better and presumably with more accuracy too. I'd thank him but the thanks is borked again.

It's also worth bearing in mind that the M2E fluff represents a jump forward in time, and things will have changed/evolved from what we knew beforehand.

Ostensibly it's to allow them the utmost freedom in rebalancing the rules, but it does give them an "out" when it comes to explaining why things are different now. Would Hungering Darkness have been appropriate to lead crews in M1.5? Not really. But there are any number of things that could have happened that give him enough autonomy to be able to range out on his own for smaller skirmishes.

Or, y'know, they could not explain anything. :) But at least the opportunity for it to make sense in the fluff and mechanics is there.

I have only played against them in 1.5 but they are a fun crew to play against.

As for Huggy being a Henchman, I don't know if it is a problem as I am guessing it was tested in-house or something so hopefully it won't cause any issues but it sure threw me for a loop when I first heard about it.

I think it would be even more fun if, when Huggy was leading a crew, he had to take Jacob Lynch as a totem (with appropriately scaled back stats and actions of course).

Potentially confusing, granted, but the idea of it just seems appealing and amuses me.

Could just take Lynch's model as an Illuminated or Depleted. Or give him an alternate set of stats: Down on his luck casino owner.

Malifaux child as henchman.

Now THAT would have been epic.

huggy as henchmen? Meh...

Nah, Huggy as a Henchman is actually pretty cool, better than just a "Meh..." I think. Wyrd just needed to complete the dynamic, to explicitly show who is really in charge of that duo, to make it epic. It is like a classic Maxwell Smart moment: "missed it by 'that' much!".

Steve Carrell ruined the character in his version. He didn't act like Smart at all. He just acted as Steve Carrell, like usual. Just like Will Ferrell. Both just walking caricatures of themselves.

Anyways...Having Lynch and HD work more like the Viks probably makes plenty of sense. I suspect we'll see the Dreamer and LCB morph into something similar. In 1.5 I liked how all three were able to do something similar to each other but in their own unique ways. 2.0 has streamlined it a bit more.
