  1. I haven't yet but I have been turning the question over in my mind. The last session of 'Malifaux in the library' was with several other minis games and the layout attracted kids of about that age to drag their parents over to see what was going on. Maybe we should set up the starter set on an empty table, maybe even with models not from the starter set, and do very simplified demo games. We had about three minutes to make a pitch before the parents wanted to move on. Remind me to report back on that next week. It is not a coincidence that my army is full of mostly not creepy horrible things. It is not just that I adore steampunk robots. I wanted an army that I could play in public without scaring people away. It may be a time to leave the rotten belles, and all the comments that come from fighting them, at home. Kids that age pick up M:tG and other card games. Hold cards in hand, add, compare totals. The basic mechanics should be teachable. Fewer of them got into minis games because of the cost, but there was at least one at the game shop with secondhand Space Marines* who was playing games against himself to better learn the rules. *from half the guys in the game shop. I was impressed to see all the old gamer guys fall over themselves to welcome a young newcomer, pre-prime a few minis so they were ready to paint, give him painting tips, and never say "that move is stupid" even when he...ok, I don't know 40k well enough to repeat what he was trying to make his units do, but it was stupid.
  2. I'd like the camera still if it's available to the public please. We had a similar yobbo being a pain around central CA recently (broke into at least one shop and stole M:tG cards on camera; possibly unrelated but another sizable theft of Malifaux minis including another Ramos)...actually that's all still on Facebook so I'll toss you the link there...point is, I'm trying to find out if it's the same yobbo on the other end of the country now, and if so get more material to charge him with. And yes, Tawg, after someone posted the "what would you do if you had to start Malifaux afresh?" thread awhile back in the forum, I know I sure thought about what I'd do...guess Fog did, too.
  3. Make it a very short (0) push then, maybe even just 2" *, so there's a less than mostly-successful chance the riflemen can push out of combat. Or heck, stick THAT option as a guardsman passive aura on Dashel, see what happens. But I am starting to think that the camp of "redesign all guardsmen and Dashel/Lucius may become usable" have the better point. It's worth repeating what LunarSol said: any bonus that requires 2x guardsmen should just require the guardsman characteristic and not an identical model. And to go way back in the thread, the only time I got use out of remote mines was against a Ramos player who had ground the game to a halt for ten minutes due to not grasping the difference between armor and Hoffman's defensive trigger, after complaining for five minutes that I'd brought Hoffman at all, again, totally tired of fighting him. I regret nothing. (Except, maybe, missing 1.5 altogether.)
  4. There's usually too much other fun to be had with a mask in hand to give it to the austringer, anyway. In my model pool that fun is pushes, but extra attacks certainly look like fun too. Or maybe your austringer is like mine and will refuse to cooperate with a particular master, in your case Sonnia? I swear, before I fielded him with McCabe, I was on the verge of returning that mini to its previous owner.
  5. I like all of these ideas. But the idea of looping Sh7 makes me giggle out loud, a lot. Which means it is probably a very bad idea. A very very very bad wonderful idea. A wonderful idea. I'm still laughing. A lot. Probably a very bad idea for balance. And because it is a very good idea otherwise to give Lady J her pistol back, McCabe something to shoot for damage instead of conditions, and Lucius a reliable sniping attack (what, you think he'd bother dirtying his own hands?) I don't want the idea to be ignored altogether just because I'm tickled. TL;DR: Sh7 is probably too high so ask for a Sh6.
  6. ...yeah, definitely handing that one off to someone with modeling skills above 'newbie', then. As for the exorcists, they have going to have to be quite good, as the silly hats are just not working for me. Unless someone shows up with a Kirai. Then it's no-triggers-for-you time.
  7. What kind of glue are you using? Everyone told me to use plastic cement glue and not superglue glue. And hello! This is my first miniatures game too.
  8. Did you mean trikk's spreadsheet of construct stats? And I do not think of boosting the casting stat for easier loops but for easier modifications...although that also only is necessary a few times per game at most (after which the gamin would turn into a construct sniping platform and/or O.S.A. dump and/or scrap).... When is it useful to have one and only one willpower-based attack handy on the off-chance that there will be any one model for which it's better? That's the question I was never able to answer happily. (Even with going up against newbie-Lilith on a regular basis. However, I think he's starting to learn her positioning tricks, and if he has, it will become fair game to introduce him to the box.) As for the toolkit, love it forever. I'd rather be buffing attack flips anyway, most of the time.
  9. But Candy, as a girl, probably has girl germs. I mean, she's there because of the goodies, but it's not like they're going to like her or anything. *"some ridiculous idea boys came up with to hide the fact that they're the ones with germs" --my Malifaux Child, see avatar pic. ...and when the silurids start to look like real mermaids, you know it's time to go home.
  10. The rules-lawyer has been out-lawyered. That's got to sting. Maybe not quite as much as the flaunting of the Califaux box's card did, but still. (I'd expected that the foils were going to be henchman perks, honestly. Prize boxes are obviously for winners, those coin things for tournament-goers, doesn't seem like there was anything in there just for the organizer. )
  11. Everything I ever hear about the Brutal Emissary just makes me go all girly and giggly. The mini, I have (although it still creeps me out to look at the box art, some days, thus still unassembled). It's the lack of Shifting Loyalties, and the desire to keep the friends I've made, that's the problem.
  12. ...We can get scrap on a (1) now instead of having to pull a pseudo-Ramos sacrifice to get two scrap on any given turn? Me likey.
  13. Hey wait, it's you, the guy who wanted a master who could function well independently of its crew! Who'd you pick??? (It was a great question. Made me think about the independent masters much more than I had before, instead of going 'what's the point, synergy's where it's at'.)
  14. Who else but Lucius ought to have an upgrade or an ability actually named Errata? Just imagine the fun* we could have during FAQ discussions! *disclaimer: fun received may vary in size, color, or quality from fun depicted on the packaging
  15. You don't need to re-read the whole of Shifting Loyalties. It's just a throwaway comment in the main story. Or at least I thought it was. Until I came here and read the theories on the avatar-beast of Perdita's being a form of Witness. Which makes quite a lot of sense. Which then makes it bother me that she spoke briefly of two avatar-beasts--and that the other was cross-pollinated with the casting of the Governor-General's control spell back in Wyrd Chronicles 14. And I have been wrong about throwaway comments before. So, I ask for another set of eyes to look that over.
  16. At the best of times, it's my opponent shouting WHY WON'T THIS THING DIIIIE after defense 6 willpower 6 blocked 2/5ths of the damage, armor absorbed 2/5ths of the damage and I healed the rest; meanwhile I'm making a mental note to clean gobbets of black blood off of aforementioned construct's claws...again...after I have employed said claws for the sixth or seventh time in a turn. At the worst of times, it's my opponent snickering as Hoffman wanders off after one of the rotten belles and ends up alone, without constructs, without 'armor', and without pants. (We choose not to hard counter each other: I don't bring remote mines upgrade and she doesn't bring relic hammers.) The crew box lacks a construct which has resilience and decent damage in the same model. Fill in with a sturdier beatstick. The crew box's ranged attack is 10" and you'll have to judge whether that's sufficient range for you. The control bubble is...small. Short range. Very. It's easy to get yourself into a traffic jam in a narrow spot, or get the bubble pinned into one table quarter, or just plain get out-ranged.
  17. ikizial's idea of being able to apply minion as a condition OR characteristic to non-minions (which word, I leave to the rules wonks) is intriguing. Ludvig is absolutely right, Lucius' card numbers needed are FAR higher than anyone else's, and don't need to be. They don't need to be as low as Hoffman's, that's his own bonus, but certainly not higher than the other support masters while Lucius is already running the horror duel risks. Or for giggles, give Lucius a (1) tactical action to shift a condition from any model with red tape to any other model with red tape. Paralyzed one of his minions? Oh no, paralyzed something much more threatening of yours. Pseudo-transfusion from lawyer's poisons. Strip fees from an enemy that's already activated and apply it to something yet to activate. Could be fun.
  18. The Go-Go-Goblin-Revue? The Sweet Skeeter with the sign set up so there's one big S for the beginning of both words? (I'm sure you know which mosquito joke also goes on that sign) The Green Scene for something classier? Swamp Queens? Just crude pictures on the sign cuz gremlins don't read too good? "Mah's Place" would have more in common with Madame Sybelle's old place.
  19. I've played...20? games so far and that among a group full of Malifaux newbies. We're all just starting to get out of the 'see what happens when you poke the opposition with a stick' phase. No data to give that is useful to the broader discussion. I mean, yes, I've started to win during that long horrible month of being forced to switch from Hoffman to McCabe, but that's partly due to one of my opponents deciding to try out Lucius as Neverborn (side note: he hasn't been paralyzing his own crew on failed horror duels, I haven't bothered telling him otherwise, it has helped somewhat).
  20. Smack her upfield with some of Mah's minions? I think the entire box can push people around. It would be thematic, at least.
  21. That's a comfort actually. I had forgotten Vanessa tied together leylines and constructs, and it nags at the back of my mind that meridions or meridians have to do with escapements (which I post here in the hope that the public shame of posting "I don't know" jars loose the memory), and so I don't have to choose an interpretation when it can imply both in one character. Convince me one way or the other, was the main plot of Shifting Loyalties
  22. Neither can Ulix. Unrelated, is anyone else annoyed by the names Magnetic and Magnetism when one of them could have so easily have been Electromagnetism instead and so easier to distinguish?
  23. *the Malifaux Child signs up for this* For a stinking greenskin yellowskin, you got some Great Ideas. But when we boss them around to make hats, I wanna get a stovepipe hat made of actual stovepipe, so I can take it with me and weld it to a construct later. Or a properly flash hat to go with the properly flash cape on a warden.
  24. So we've found out that you hate abominations (and I don't blame you; they're in my Category II listing of creepy models*). Do you want to make a career out of hunting them? Maybe get a Johan ($11 mercenary model good for any crew) with the relic hammer that'll do superior damage against constructs like those. Maybe get Tara and use her upgraded sword--strike one abomination and apply that damage to every one on the field. *Yin has Category III all to herself. Yuck. Well done, Wyrd, but yuck.
  25. The big rulebook has half the masters, the so-called 'Wave 1' release. Unfortunately many of the ones you expressed an interest in were in 'Wave 2', the book called Crossroads. Maybe we can narrow it down a little more by asking if you want a master who supports the rest of the crew (Colette, McCabe, etc.), or one who charges in and does the damage itself (Mei Feng), or who stays back but still does the damage itself (Sonnia)? I think I'm hearing a love of support masters, but. There is a point of overlap between Guild and Arcanists; unfortunately for you, it's Hoffman, who is absolutely the last choice for being independent of his crew (he must have constructs, and unlike others bound to a keyword, hasn't even got a ranged attack independent of keyword) via the box set of Ramos (also keyword bound to constructs, although he has at least the ranged attack support). Normally we'd suggest it as a compromise, but it isn't what you want at all.
