  1. Completely disagree. By that logic, just walk away in the middle of the game if something shinier passes by. YOLO.
  2. I'm still very new to Hamelln (only one game so far), but I've thought about the Emissary mainly because it seems the crew would benefit from support and healing. It feels killy enough, has anti-scheme shenanigans and pretty decent movement. But healing and condition removal were areas that I found myself wanting to improve.
  3. Personal matters are of course different. Things come up, that's life and games, as fun as they may be, obviously have to yield to it. But first of all, win or lose you're playing a game. If your only enjoyment comes from winning, I personally would rather not have you at the event (or in the community). It's no surprise to me that all the drops had losing records. That's no excuse. Second, looking at it from the point of view of someone who is going to drop if they aren't top table, what are the odds that you will be? If you are only going to continue if you're winning, then unless you have some basis to believe you'll be consistently on top, why enter in the first place? Obviously people have to rank their own priorities, and there's no stopping someone from dropping. But I find it disrespectful to the TOs and the other players to flake on a commitment just because you're not going to take home the trophy.
  4. If you're not going to commit to an event, better not to enter it at all.
  5. Malifaux is on the schedule twice at Lost Planet Games in Torrance: Tuesday, 6:30 pm Saturday, 1 pm 2711 Plaza Del Amo, Unit 511 Torrance, California 90503 Anyone of any experience level is welcome! If you're an old pro, come by and play. If you're just through the breach, we can teach the game and provide all materials.
  6. Are you looking to stay within Neverborn, or are you open to another faction?
  7. They were pretty inconsistent on their Upgrades opinions. At first one of the guests said LLC was essentially an auto-take on their Agent 46/Pale Rider ball of death. Then later they both claimed to take it only occasionally. I also disagree that Guild upgrades are the worst in the game. Have they not seen Outcast?

  11. Was the Black Friday Charles Edmonton supposed to come with a plastic base? See some confusion over this online, and mine didn't, so just checking.
  12. I strongly believe that in Malifaux, rule of cool is the way to go. If there are masters you know you enjoy, there's nothing wrong with using them to learn, even if they are more complicated. However, you're also asking which masters are best suited for demos. Of the crews you listed, I think Kaeris is best suited for demos. When I am trying to find crews to use for new player demos, I'm looking for boxes with a few criteria: 1) Straight forward mechanics: I don't want a convoluted master or someone who relies on a chain of events. 2) Not a summoner: The exact stone value of crew boxes varies, but most are around ~25 stones. Summoning on this scale is arguably imbalanced. Of course, who wins a demo game is irrelevant, as a result. However, you don't want either player to come away with the sense that the game is unfair. For a similar reason, I'm not likely to use the Viks as a demo crew, because their two master dynamic is disproportionately powerful at the level of crew boxes. Some crews do summon incidentally. That's different to me than what I'd consider a core summoner, like Dreamer. 3) Plays the game the same way: By this, I mean the game is likely to be highly interactive. If I'm setting up a demo for new players, I'm not going to use Nellie and Colette, for instance. This generally means I want to use the fighting crews over the schemey crews. For a similar reason, I don't want to use control masters or crews with a lot of oppressive mechanics. Jack Daw, as one example, is not what I'd consider a good demo crew. Terrifying can be very not-fun to play against, and The Guilty are just fantastic on the scale of a crew box game. 4) No direct counters. Pretty obvious. Basse, in my opinion, is a fantastic demo box. Straight forward, has bonus actions on everyone, ignores a lot of terrain so it's simple in terms of movement. Molly's box is good too. Solid models, card discard mechanic is a little convoluted at first, but not overwhelmingly so. Titania is ok, though her minions are 7 stones each so they're a little more expensive than the average box. Perdita and Parker are both good for shooting crews. Kaeris is nice for a condition crew. Those would be my top picks. There's plenty more that would be good, and really almost any can work, depending on the general gaming experience of the players.

  14. Wasn't she taken OOK in a recent tournament winning list?
  15. This was my initial reading as well. I kind of went back-and-forth on it, and in the end I think I still feel this way. But I'm not sure it's entirely clear cut. Both abilities use the same timing, so clearly if both of their effects were relevant, they'd be simultaneous and governed by those rules. So the question then becomes do they both apply? I think this turns on whether or not the Colette player "uses" the doves ability, in that they intentionally trigger it specifically, or if the doves ability isn't triggered on its own, but rather during the use of a soulstone. It's the difference between "I'm using the dove as a stone" and "I'm using a stone and paying for it with the dove." This isn't simple hairsplitting, because the dove ability says when the Colette player would "use or discard" a Soulstone." If the Colette player had no stones, could they trigger this ability? You can't use something you don't have. So if the ability is taken merely as a cost-replacement, potentially you shouldn't be allowed to do it if you have no stones. I don't think this was the intention at all. So then, I'm left with the conclusion that the ability isn't cost replacement that triggers during the use of a stone, but is rather a specific ability the Colette player can trigger that replicates the effects of using a stone, but with a different cost.
  16. Our "officially" scheduled games at Lost Planet are on hiatus until Saturday, January 4th. See you all in 2020!
  17. Did this end up arriving as expected? I'm still waiting on my Gen Con Archie.
  18. Have you gotten good use out of Jaakuna Ubume? I've taken her a few times, but generally feel like I'd prefer another Hanged.
  19. It would be nice if the app knew about upgrade limits during game play. For instance, when playing Marcus, the app will allow me to give an unlimited number of an upgrade out, when they're restricted Plentiful (2).

  21. Neat find. Good luck locating players though...
  22. I'm not too worried about not receiving my shipment notification yet. I just hope it includes the Archie I ordered from the Gen Con sale.
  23. I can't speak to your opponent's attitude or conduct, so if you felt he wasn't really trying or respecting the game anymore, that's different. But I would say that if there are "negative" achieving achievements, then "tanking" becomes a rational game strategy at a certain point. And so it's arguably the strictly correct decision if you can get more out of a bigger loss than a smaller one. Which is to say, unless his attitude or conduct indicated otherwise, I wouldn't necessarily be disheartened or derive an NPE in all such circumstances.
  24. The Pale Rider can ignore about the same amount with Revel in Conflict's 5 trigger. At almost twice the cost and not until turn 3 at the earliest...
