Yan-lo's crew really does offer quite a bit of diversity. If you want summoning and support Toshiro is your man, Izamu is a beat stick, chiaki is a control and support piece, The ashigaru are decent hard to kill minions, Yin is an excellent control piece, and the onryo and komainu are also excellent minions that can be used to suit your particular style.

No he cannot be sacrificed to save Kirai from death. He mostly just provides an excellent source of healing. Also if you do not want one of your transfusion cards I would be willing to trade you the set of Kirai cards. (Kirai, Ikiryo, Lost Love, Seishin x2, onryo x2, plus her upgrades). I also demoed at Gen Con, and several of the models were also broken. I cannot really get behind demoing with painted models when they are likely to get broken, and sometimes even stolen.

Just want to add, that I expect Wyrd to make mistakes. They are a fantastic group and they do their best to get the product into my hands. And to the best of my knowledge they do everything that they can in order to fix and address any mistakes that are made. Therefore, I shall continue to give them my money.

Just wanted to give everyone a heads up. I picked up the Zoraida box set and noticed that there seem to be misprints on a few of the cards. Zoraida and the Voodoo Doll do not have the Gremlin Symbol on them, and the Tarot Reading upgrade has an incorrect cost. It should be 2 SS. If you have the Wave 1 Arsenal cards you may want to hold onto them, and if you don't have them just be aware. Edit - wanted to add that I think Wyrd is great, and the models are fantastic. And my intention is strictly to help inform anyone that comes here wondering about it, that Zoraida is still dual faction, and that the cost of the upgrade should be 2.

She can only summon hanged with a 13 though. Would have been nice to have released a three pack of Gaki along side her.

Rulebook says when the Red Joker is flipped, the player must choose what suit it will be for the rest of that action. So if you chose mask, it would be a mask. That said, I do not necessarily think Dreamer should be summoning Teddies.

What are its major flaws that cause it to under-perform in your experience?

I am pretty sure that one of the design goals was to eliminate "this model cannot be hired with the one other specific model", a.k.a. the old animosity. If this could not be hired with Luna, then it should probably be tweaked so that it can be; or, you could make it a totem.

Mako's painting in the issue was absolutely gorgeous. The Yan-lo vs. Misaki battle report was a good read too.

I am going to be a bit more optimistic about its table top performance. I think it will do fine for itself, especially with Brewmaster support.

The nightmare whiskey golem is giving me a bit of hope for the Brewmaster to make a showing as well.

Any model can benefit from chi. It is just a condition, the effects of which are defined on Yan-Lo, Chiaki, and the Soul Porter. This is due to those models being the ones that generate the condition. Once the condition is applied to a model, it affects them all the same.

The previously mentioned timing of the Smell Fear attack is a little off. Smell Fear grants the attack after completing the current action. If Lenny declares the charge, and fails the horror duel, he still needs to complete the charge action. Then the RN will get to make its attack. If Lenny is in range at that time, the RN could attack him.

I tend to run 4 of them in Recon. Until they came around I don't think I ever got points for Recon at all.

I think a nice compromise would be a rule: Models of the same base size do not block LoS to each other, however, an attack that draws LoS through another model suffer - on the flip.

In the article you mention there being a way to activate three models in a row. I believe you may be mistaken. Could you please explain how to go about doing this?
