  1. I think my overall favorite thing about Malifaux is the diversity of the characters and mash-up of styles (steampunk, gothic horror, U.S. Wild West, Victorian manners) that actually work together as a cohesive universe. Even the most polar opposite models have a subtle aesthetic that binds them together. Coming from an RPG background, the emphasis on story and individuality of each character is also fantastic. I was attracted to the fact that each piece on the board has their own tale to tell and isn't just one of a fifty being battallion. The diversity of play-style. There is a master for every style of player and the diversity of strategy and schemes make every game competitive for those various styles. Colette. Her story in Rising Powers sold me not only on Malifaux, but sent me scrambling to find her box to start putting it together. I eagerly await every new piece of fiction, hoping there will be another new piece on her. Favorite Model: my Willie. It is my favorite basing job as I built a wall of stones and made a huge bundle of dynamite with a fuse that is lit. He's running away from it. Favorite Moment: I was playing Ramos against Kaeris. My opponent had spent most of the game trying to take out Ramos, but the cunning M&SU leader kept squeaking out enough health through his armor and healing spell upgrade. Then in Turn 5, one of his gunsmith's got a bead on a burning Ramos, changed the barrel to ignore armor and was able to cheat the Red Joker for damage. Ramos was going to take about 8 points of damage and head to the happy hunting grounds. I burned a Soulstone for damage prevention to see if I could mitigate a little to maybe hang him around with one wound. I flipped the Red Joker, full damage prevention. My opponent started spinning in circles in hysteria over Ramos's luck. Which leads to another one of the fantastic aspects of this game: the community. I haven't had a bad game or played against a "bad" opponent. I've had my butt handed to me more times then I care to admit, but always had fun playing. I love how after almost every game my opponent and I will discuss tactics and ideas on how to do better next time. Overall, I have had nothing but positive experiences with Malifaux and continue to look forward to it.
  2. I find the Doves incredibly effective for getting members across the board very fast at the start of the game. With the Doves, you can have any Minion/Showgirl at the centerline by Turn 1. That includes Cassandra, a Slate Ridge Mauler, a Razorspine Rattler, Willie, Metal Gamin, Rail Workers, gunsmiths, etc. This allows you to have characters in range and accomplishing certain strats and schemes early. This is great for Stake A Claim, Plant Evidence, Breakthrough, etc. I've had many a game where by the end of Turn 1, after Cassandra takes her Stage Presence push, she is in the enemy deployment zone. The Dove is great specifically for Entourage. Have it in play/summoned on Turn 4, then fly it into the enemy deployment zone. Long as Colette is within 14 inches, she can Disappearing Act herself right to it. I do not get too concerned about the heavy need for triggers with Colette. Don't forget about her Artificial Soulstone ability which allows her once a turn to get a free suit, as long as she has one Soulstone in her pool. It is great for when you really need to pull something off and at least have the high card in your hand.
  3. The one sitting up needs a monocole and a martini. Overall, very funny.
  4. My thanks to Rathnard and the collection of 10 Thunders he sent me. I received: Samurai Yamaziko Katanaka Snipers
  5. Attention DEZMO1218: A package containing a collection of dezians from a certain fictional city is rumored to be heading your way as of this morning.
  6. Check out the Gaining Grounds document in the Download section which provides the "Wyrd Official" guidance regarding conversions and proxys. It is always best to check with a tournament organizer abou what they will accept. In answer to your question about Lord Chompy Bits; your option to put fur on LCB is the best option under the "official" rules rather than proxying a Teddy as him.
  7. A couple of months ago, I ran Colette in Stake a Claim with Cassandra, Angelica, the Duet, a dove, and the Sabertooth Cerebus. The Cerebus also has leap which is really nice for getting the distance between markers. Although the Cerebus mostly ended up staying back leaping at my opponents punk zombies and keeping them tied up and looking over the shoulder. Using Prompt on Angelica is great as you keep prompting her with "Give Them An Encore" to push others into position to drop markers. Colette would alternate making Doves and disapearing across the table to get into position for Entourage. The Duet ended up serving primarily as the beatstick allowing the others to drop markers while tying up and eliminting a Flesh Construct and Nicodem. Overall, I found this a very effective crew for this strategy and will probably be running it this weekend for a tournament where this is the Round 1 strategy.
  8. I figured as much, just thought I would see. Thanks
  9. So, Colette's Disappearing Act can only be used on "Minions or Showgirls." Obviously, it can't be used on Enforcers or Henchmen (save for Cassandra and Angelica). But what about Peons (aside from Mannequins)? They are lower than Minions, so shouldn't it be alright to use it on them? Specifically, I am considering an Electrical Creation.
  10. I agree and have done this with a lot of Arcanist beasts. Colette is my default master, so I have turned several beasts into performing animals. I gave the Slateridge Mauler a fez and vest (Boris the Dancing Bear) Cojo has a derby, tie, and french cuffs on his wrists w/cuff links The Sabertooth Cerebus is performing a balancing act on some circus balls and thanks to some green stuff my metal Myranda bears a striking resemblance to Bettie Paige in her classic Jungle Girl outfit (complete with her signature bangs)
  11. With all this discussion of beverages in this thread, I am hoping that means we have tapped into some subconcious psychic projection from Wyrd that Black Friday will see the release of the Brewmaster. I want my drunken 10 Thunders gremlin. Oh, and I can never say no to Wychwood's Hobgoblin Dark Ale.
  12. While I have never tried it, Colette could potentially use one to some effect. 1. Send a Mechanical Dove out and have it within 14 inches of Colette 2. Colette casts Disapearing Act on the Electircal Creation to send it into base contact with the Dove You then have the Creation double walk towards the enemy and have a sitting time bomb waiting to be taken out, or forcing the enemy to move around. It may not be the most effective use of resources for Colette, but depending on strategies and schemes, it has possibilities. I could see doing it when Colette takes Willie as also casting Disapearing Act on him to move him up and then let him hurl a Demo Charge into the area of the Creation and enemies it's engaged with to cause some quick and double damage to the enemy from both Willie's attack and the Creation's detenation. Even with Willie shooting into melee and ends up hitting the Creation, the enemy will suffer the damage caused by the Creation's destruction.
  13. Last Friday in November, just after U.S. Thanksgiving. Not to resurrect a topic, but I don't mind if there is a delay on Colette's crew if it means we get a different design from her current artwork in Crossroads. You know, something that actually says magician and not generic steampunk (I still can't get over those goggles). EDIT: ninja'd
  14. So, I donated a new, unopened Willie to the organizer of a tournament. Then at that tournament, I go win the achievement portion and receive the Willie as the prize. So, I have an unopened Willie, with M2E stat card I am looking to trade. Here is what I am looking for in exchange. Can be opened, but want unassembled: Izamu Orian Dawn Serpent 10 Thunders Archers I am willing to do a straight trade for Izamu or the Dawn Serpent, and will add $5 to the Orian or 10 Thunders (Wille is listed at $16 on the webstore, as is Izamu and the Dawn Serpent; Orian and Archers are $21).
  15. This was a great tournament. The day just flew by and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves despite the torrential downpour outside.
  16. I have an idea for doing a crew where the models are posed on rooftops. Any suggestions on best way to go about this? Recommendations on reasonably priced kits of buildings where I can just use the roofing portion? Anyone heard of resin bases that have a rooftop theme? I welcome any and all ideas.
  17. For me, Willie is Crazy Harry to Colette's Kermit. While not essential every time I go with Colette, he is in a majority of her crews that I run. One of my favorite plays is to send a Mechanical Dove out for 1 walk action and then forfeit its second. Then use Disapearing Act to send Willie into base contact with the dove. Now he is near the center of the table. If you have Angelica, she can do Give Them an Encore to push him another 5 inches and before he even takes a walk action, Willie with Demo Charge is in range of opponents still in their deployment zone. He can throw a Demo Charge for Action 1, drop a Scheme Marker for Action 2, then do Set Charge as his zeo action and you have a ticking time bomb of exploding goodness center table toward your opponent's side. It's beautiful for Turf War.
  18. Sure, bring up that little detail to undermine a perfectly dasterdly plan.
  19. My list, also in no particular order: -Soulstone Miner -an emergency soulstone available on demand combined with a great scheme runner -Gunsmith -versatile damage with a list of triggers for just about any type of opponent -Joss -a hoss who can take a ton of damage and actually gets tougher as he gets closer to death. -Cassandra -covers a lot of ground with her Round 1 push and Nimble while being versatile with her sword or Understudy. Her Smoke and Mirrors upgrade is a must with her everytime -Howard Langston/Miss Step -again Nimble allows for a lot of coverage. If you luck out with any decent number of medium to high rams in you hand, activating him towards the end of a turn and triggering Decapitate is lovely in forcing your opponent to sacrifice soulstones (provided he's burned through his hand) or the target model.
  20. I definetly think that Perdita could have handled having the Peacekeeper lose the fight. The schemes for the game were Breakthrough, Make Them Suffer, Assassinate, Line in the Sand, and Cursed Object. In addition to the Peacekeeper, the crew consisted of The Judge, Francisco, Enslaved Nephilim, and Witchling Stalker. My opponent took Make Them Suffer and Assassinate. With Ramos making new Arachnids every turn to try to run scheme markers for Breakthrough, I gave Perdita and company a steady stream of minions to pick off for Make Them Suffer points (a mistake on my part). Joss and the Judge were tied up with each other from Rounds 2 through 4 throwing heymakers back and forth (and ended up being more of the fight in the game then the "main event"). The Nephilim was used to move Perdita and Francisco about so one could focus going after Ramos for Assassinate points and the other could have shot at Arachnids to cut off the scheme markers and keep racking up Make Them Suffer points. The Stalker could have also been used for defending against Breakthrough running about picking off my scheme markers as the arachnids dropped them. Therefore, without the Peackeeper, the Guild still had the ability to generate plenty of victory points by picking schemes that played to their strengths. If Howard had won the fight, they may have still won, but it would have been likely a much closer game than the blowout they did score with the Peacekeeper winning the fight. Had Howard survived, he would have been less effective then the Peacekeeper was in helping out for the remainder of the game. He could have helped in running the Breakthrough scheme markers, or worked as a shield for Ramos, staying between him and Perdita/Fransico and forcing them to burn APs having to move around him to get LOS on Ramos rather then just having the Nephilim move them around and allowing them to empty their guns into my master for Assassinate. While effective, its not the same as the Peacekeeper tailing my Arachnids, setting himself between them and wiping out the scheme markers with his Tactical Action. Here's the ultimate dirty strategy I came up with for Fight Night the day after my first experience. It is contingent winning Initiative for Round 1: Bet 0 VPs for the fight. Select a Coryphee as your "fighter." For the first move, get your "fighter" Coryphee into base contact with your second Coryphee and perform Dance Together to summon the Coryphee Duet. The "fighter" Coryphee is no longer in existence, so the opponent's "fighter" has no target and cannot possibly score any victory points. At the same time, the Coryphee Duet is not restricted from attacking other models since it is not the "fighter" model. Now that, is some straight-up Ric Flair heel work.
  21. OK, so last night, I played Fight Night for the first time as my Ramos sponsored Howard Langston against Perdita's Peackeeper. The Peacekeeper opened with Flurry and thanks to a series of incredible flips in its favor, sent Howard to the showers after two attacks in Round 1 before anyone else could get fancy. The Peacekeeper's night wasn't over though. While he could not directly attack any of my model's, he could chase after all of my arachnids that were trying to drop scheme markers for Breakthrough, cast his aura and wipe them out. I was able to chip away at him some with Ramos using Magnetism or Controlled Detonation upon an arachnid within range. Unfortunately, I could not eliminate him before the end of the game to stop him from ruining my scheme (which was great work by my opponent). Therefore, I don't think there is an issue with preventing the "fighter" from attacking or being attacked the remainder of the game. There are things they can do to still be a player in the game and opponents have means at their disposal to interact with the fighter without Attack Actions.
  22. I think a lot of it comes down to your opponent and their skill level. A couple weeks ago, I had a game against one of the best players at the FLGS. In a tournament at the start of the summer, he tabled me by Turn 3 with his Ortega crew. In this second encounter, he didn't have his Malifaux with him, so I leant him Mei Feng for a 35 stone game. He had never played Mei before. He tabled me by Turn 3, pulling out combos and stringing moves together that I hadn't realize I could pull off with Mei. It is just a matter of becoming familiar with the game, the models and learning what they can do. I appreciated taking that drudging with my own crew as I learned and appreciated what I have (still being fairly new as a player). In my hands currently, Mei is average and I have a 50/50 shot of winning with a similarly experienced opponent. But in another's hands...look out.
