Webmonkey
So I was wondering, (just out of curiosity), about the percentages of people that fall on either side of the board. yes I know most people fit both categories to some extent or other, but in most every case, you are going to be one more then the other. So,.. which is it? are you,.. A ) A Gamer First,.. (usually only worried about paint up to the extent that's it's tournament legal or some such, but your results may vary) or B ) A Painter First,.. (you mostly game just to show off your figures to others, but you likely have fun playing as well)
SpiralngCadavr
Definitely a painter first, but I definitely do my share of gaming and strategy and always paint my stuff with the intent that it'll see the table, and it takes a very special model for me to paint something with trash rules unless it's pulling proxy duty. Mako
There's a game attached to the models?
Wence
That's a tough call... I got into the miniature hobby as a painter, but the two aren't mutually exclusive for me, or most other people I know that paint/play, anymore. Webmonkey
true,.. they aren't mutually exclusive. But most people fall on one side more then the other,.. even if it's only by that 1% margin,..
Webmonkey
I suppose you could ask yourself this question,.. If I had the power to take one or the other away for the rest of your life, which would it be? Would you rather play the rest of your life with unpainted figs,.. Or would you rather be able to paint as much as you like, but never play again? The answer to this will likely give you your answer.
David Blank
OK, I would say that I am painter first but I love to play.
Webmonkey
Don't forget to vote on the poll guys,..
dgraz
Definitely gamer first, but only by the narrowest of margins......like 51% to 49%. I do love the painting, but at the end of the day, I'd rather play with my friends than sit home alone painting.
rancor709
Would always rather play than paint, but love painting with Painted armies.
Agnelcow
Gaming, far and away. I'm a terrible painter, and have been bribing friends to take care of the hobby stuff so that I can play.
Mister Shine
You can paint these things?
Tuttleboy
Gamer! Painting gives me a migraine and isn't near as fun as it used to be for me. I still pick up a brush occasionally to see if the magic has come back, but it hasn't yet.
The Godlyness
Gamer First and foremost. I dislike painting mainly do to 40k and having Guard and orks.......So many models....... I love the game and playing against other people. but when i do paint i try my best and take pride in my work, unfortunately my best is by far sub par compared to some people. (damn you internet for showing me up)
Lord Shaper
Even tho I love playing I do have painting as a release for the end of the day...
rcat
Every other game I've ever played, I would have qualified myself as Painter without question. And I still prefer to have things painted before using them. But I play Malifaux so much more than I have ever played other games...
Viruk
Definitely a painter (and a gamer wannabe )
zFiend
Definetly a gamer I suck at painting.
ced1106
Gamer. @ZFiend: Have you tried zenithal priming then a wash? Fast, easy, good effects. I posted a tutorial on BGG: http://boardgamegeek.com/thread/1115533/miniature-painting-tutorial-and-wip-deep-ones-and
Wings
I would have to be forced to play a game. It would not happen willingly. Definitely all about the painting.
Pierowmaniac
Painting just by a narrow margin (55 to 45). a couple of years ago would have been the reverse.
Webmonkey
Hrmm,.. interesting,... early votes yesterday had painters in the lead by a large margin. This morning, the gamers are way ahead. This is actually kinda neat to watch.
Mako
Well, painters are creatures of the night...
Daysleeper
I'm definitely a gamer and almost always hate the painting part. I realy realy envy people who have fun painting the miniatures. It must be perfect if that part of our hobby gives you pleasure too, for me it's just headaches. Related question: what do the painters do with their painted models? Put them all in a display? or do you sell them after having painted them? ... looking for some reasonably priced models/commisions. I would love to have a nice symbiotic realationsship with some paint-fanatic who just wants to paint and sells me the models afterwards. My dream of unimpeded wargaming would come true
Mako
Related question: what do the painters do with their painted models? Put them all in a display? or do you sell them after having painted them? Much the same as gamers do when they've finished gaming for a day... store them somewhere If I had the space, a display case. But I paint for the actual painting process, having the finished item is just a happy bonus when I want to look at what I did or (for rarity value) play a game
