Chucklemonkey
Just wondering how the introduction of Malifaux has affected people's playing habits. Previously I was solely a Warhammer/40k player and whilst I was feeling slightly bored with those systems, and therefore actively looking for another game, Malifaux has near enough finished my interest in those games. I plan on finishing the army I was in the middle of but now the only thing that is keeping me playing is that it is not yet possible to just show up to my gaming club and get a game of Malifaux - despite me pushing it. So how has Malifaux affected your hobby? Has it replaced a game or has it simply been added to the number of games played by you?
Chev Chelios
I was a confirmed 40k/Warmachine/Hordes player.I have virtually stopped all interest in it for Malifaux. It was easy for me because I am a mini painter first and love games that have individual characters and not loads of mini that are all the same. Poko
Obviously as we(the group) got the book and minis we tended to play Mali excusively for a few weeks, but now it's back to the usual few games of this and few games of that (except FoW, infantry on infantry=Verdun 1944, which is NOT fun, so we have to wait till one of us finishes armored company of some sort)
Etna's Vassal
Well, I still play WHFB on Mondays, and I have a friend I can get a regular game of WARMACHINE in with. I also run bi-weekly Monsterpocalypse tournaments, but as soon as I can get a freakin' game in I'm positive MalifauX will be a top contender for my time. My FLGS does have a group, I just need to not get jerked around by my friend next Tuesday in order to stsrt playing. :vb_mad2:
Lordfishbane
Any new good game will crush The "old timers" in your group. New figs, new strategies, systems, etc. What more importantly is after the hubbub dies down and people settle into habits, you will be swayed by what ever is the new army/rule set is launched. We played Uncharted sea's for awhile, now its out of interest with only one (me) or two interested in playing it once in awhile. Malifaux has many things going for it that I think will keep peoples interest and in their groups rotation for a long time to come. The most important is the huge dedicated community that surrounds WYRD, the unique world, unique combat system, unique set of figures, and don't forget ZOMBIE HOOKERS!! greenstuff_gav
its the opposite here; whisper and myself have tried our best; it's all we play, i've built a gaming board, we've got fully painted demo forces and tried to get people to try it .. just they exclusively play 40k.. how boring here's hoping for a UK tourney to rekindle some interest
Dragoon130
It just added to list for me. I do admit finding the time for warmachine and battletech is a little hard when I have half painted malifaux models all over the place. Justin
No, my friends still play 40k. So I do too.
Flikfutch87
The others were already on life support for me. I still play Warmachine/Hordes from time to time, but the ever-rising costs of that game were making it too difficult for me to continue being really pumped for it. So Malifaux's taken over. Amarel
It's all we really play. It's just more fun than pushing around big units and rolling handfuls of dice. That said I do miss the occasional bit of WM / Hordes or 40k / WHFB (might just be due to me trying to justify the amount of money, time and effort put into my armies for them, though ). Heh. I just sold all my armies on eBay, and re-invested the money into MalifauX and other toys. A great way to stock up on crews, I must say! All that remains of my G.W. stuff are my Daemons and my Wood Elves. It really cuts down on the temptation to play those games. Wombats
I play Malifaux probably 80% of the time and Warhammer 20% now. I used to be 100% Warhammer. I'm actually painting my Warhammer armies more often post-Malifaux, I'm rediscovering why I like miniatures. Malifaux has been a good thing for my appreciation of both games. Rathnard
Last year I had only ever played and been interested in GW games (ie. 40k, FB and some of the specialist games). But this year has become the year of non-GW games for me - In January I got into Malifaux (and loving it!) and just this month I started a Trollbloods army for Hordes. At this moment most of my time is devoted to 40k and Necromunda - I'm painting an army of the former for a tournament and there's been a campaign running for the latter (Scavvies for the Lose!1!!). I'd like to play more Malifaux but my actual gaming time is limited. And with no more Malifaux models to paint I'm left painting other stuff. That said, things are likely to change drastically in three months. Very drastically indeed.
Buck Dog
I haven't started playing yet, but I think Malifaux will be a welcome addition to the games I play, rather than replacing them all. Apart from the appeal of the miniatures and the system, it is also nice that you can fit a game in a couple of hours whereas for me, a game of 40K / WHFB writes off most of the day. Also, most of my gaming buddies are scattered across the country, and I would much rather transport a malifaux crew up to them rather than 2,000 points of zombies and skeletons for a game of WHFB ! Ivellis
Warmachine/Hordes is my main game system, I play them most. However I really like the Malifaux game, I'm just a fluff nut and I have much more invested in the WM/H fluff. I have a hard time buying Malifaux stuff over WM/H stuff because there's so much more behind WM/H. I imagine Malifaux will compete with WM/H as more books are released. I also occasionally play other games mostly 40k/Fantasy, but I've stopped investing in them till one of my armies actually gets a book for the newest editions. (Seriously what was I thinking, I play the three armies that have had the longest wait for an update so far. Curse you Dark Eldar, Tomb Kings and Necrons!) themurphyfella
Well I picked this up as I really liked the miniatures and I was in the mood for a bit of variety from 40k, painting and playing. It's filled the slot nicely and my plan is to mix malifaux in as a regular part of my gaming. 40K and Malifaux are different enough in mechanics and scale that they fill the "Jones theory" of games http://gameonpodcast.com/?p=
DangerousBeans
Malifaux's my current favourite, but it'll take a lot for me to stop playing Warmahordes and Infinity (and of course the ever indomitable Blood Bowl). Pretty excited about the re-release of Hell Dorado too (although when that will be no one seems to know) and looking forward to Warlands. So yeah, Malifaux's near the top of the pile but it's not king of the mountain yet. On a side note, I find it weird that Malifaux seems to have been the only game to sway GWers from GW. Most of the Warhammer folks around here just give you a blank stare when you mention anything else. Go Malifaux!
nightgaunt98c
My gaming time is pretty limited, but Malifaux has taken up a fair bit of it.
N0rdicNinja
Malifaux on Tuesday nights WarmaHordes on Thursday nights Warhammer 40k on Saturdays On Friday nights we'll generally play whatever people are most interested in at the time, whether it be Warhammer 40k Warhammer FB, WarmaHordes or Malifaux. As of late, we've actually been getting both WarmaHordes and Malifaux games in on Fridays. Definitely just an addition for me. ^_^b
Wombats
>Most of the Warhammer folks around here just give you a blank stare when >you mention anything else. Go Malifaux! I was one of those people. I think the thing that turned me off Warmachine was the fluff seemed to be cliche'ed while Warhammer stole its fair share of ideas but took them somewhere quite mental. It kept getting almost cool - like the whole Cryx / Everblight deal - and never paid off with detail or imagination. Match that with Page 5 and I saw a game where all the people I haven't enjoyed playing with would go. Its a bit like Warhammer Fantasy around here, the tournaments are well attended because a lot of those players wouldn't get many games outside a tourney environment. More the local community than anything else. Malifaux seems to do the opposite, all the people I've loved playing with are already up to their knees in it. We had our first tournament the other day and there were maybe 3 people focussed on winning, everyone else was just having a great time. And we had equal prizes for highest, lowest and middle scoring And all the other prizes were for weird things like getting dressed up. Also, Malifaux takes a fresh set of un-used cliches (Horror, Western, etc.) and takes it somewhere quite mental, like Warhammer, but for new genres. Omadon
Well, our discovery of Malifaux was timed well with the dry patch in warmachine caused by all the waiting for MKII coming out. It's pretty much killed every other game for me, although - the store I work at still has a healthy 40K scene, and a gradually improving fantasy scene. Currently though, our most regular events are Malifaux related. We've got a league going where you have a round a week over the course of the month - we don't have anything nearly so organized for the 40K lot. Nutcase168
It killed our WM/Hordes for awhile until the finla MKII hordes rules came out. Now it seems to go in swings. A few weeks on WM, then a few weeks of Malifuax. Once the new WM league is done I hope to play a lot more Malifaux.
Prophaniti
My club is a hopeless den of magpies. We play all sorts of stuff. Fantasy, sci-fi and historical and any mixture of those you care to think of too. Malifaux has definitely earned a place as a regularly played game though. (Just to give you an idea of what my club is like we have played 18 different games systems between us since the start of the year.)
WEiRD sKeTCH
I don't think it 'killed' any games in my area. It has found a niche and it's growing steadily. People still play Warhammer (Fantasy & 40K), Warmachine and Hordes, Flames of War, etc. at my LGS.
Peterdita
It more like revived my gaming altogether. I didn't play anything, just painted a bunch of nice mini's (Wyrd included). So now I get to play with all these cool minis I've painted.
