  1. I think this came up a while ago, but in case you missed it : The short story "The Sandman", written by ETA Hoffmann, is about a character who was said to steal the eyes of children who wouldn't go to bed and feed them to his own children who lived in the moon. The villain is a character called Coppelius.
  2. One of my favourites - the philosopher who came up with the concept of 'the Ghost in the Machine' was a chap called Gilbert RYLE

    Joss

Oh, that's not quite as exciting as I first thought.... Still, good to know though !

    Joss

So a little cherub told me that Joss is going to be a Henchman in 2nd Edition. I am not an Arcanist player, but thought you would all like to know !
  5. Hey, you've made me come out of my Forum retirement !! The Viks +Von Schill is a fantastic combo, but to run them both effectively you need a lot of stones - especially if you aren't bringing a Librarian. Whilst the Student of Conflict is good, I would rather have the additional Stones - The Viks and Von Schill don't have any spells worth casting by a Totem (I am not even sure it can cast their spells due to the wording), so you are paying a lot for an occasional Fast. Rather than going Fast, try bringing the opponent to you with Oiran, or my favourite Hamelin !! Another issue with Viks + Von Schill + A load of stones is a low model count, so being out activated is a problem - maybe consider using Vanessa to bring along a Steampunk Arachnid Swarm ? Hope all is good with you - we need to arrange a game soon !!
  6. I am only just starting with Hoffman, but the Steampunk Arachnid Swarm seems underrated - it can also give Hoffman a free healing flip, and if you split it into individual spiders, it can give him a huge boost to his CA.
  7. I am rather enjoying thinking up potential 20ss lists for Levi - I never normally play games that small, so I am not really used to it. I think my favourite so far is : Levi Canine Remain Necropunk Necropunk Warden Warden 2 Soulstones
  8. Just to expand on this, you don't hire Hollow Waifs - one gets summoned to Levi during the first turn. If you then want another one (which you almost certainly will) you have to create it during the game. People often hire a Canine Remain to kill and raise the additional Waif from. During a scrap the most Waifs you can have in play at once is two and then four for a brawl. Whether you want to take SPA's in your starting crew or raise them later is entirely up to you and your preferred style of play. Some people swear by starting with 4 SPA's and Ashes and Dust, others start with none and favour Minions such as Bête Noir, Dead Rider, Soulstone Miner etc. I would suggest experimenting with a few options and see what works best for you.
  9. And you resurrect a thread no-one has posted in for over a month to tell us this ? Good work.
  10. Regarding Johann. I quite like him - I play Outcasts and I find that he and Taelor make a very solid core to any of my crews. Would he work well with Miners ? I would imagine that Johan coupled with a pair of Miners would be good for holding your deployment zone or securing an objective ?
  11. Theory-Faux here, but I imagine he would be good fun with either Sonnia or Tina. Although there may be some competition for stones, the fact he can either ignore blasts, or can shrug off a lot of magic damage, could lead to some lols.
  12. Whereabouts in the UK are you ? I would recommend Inner Sanctum Games in Cambridge or Darksphere in that there London.
  13. To be honest there is no hard and fast rule - a lot depends on people's commitments and so can vary from week to week, but normally games run from 6ish to 10ish.
  14. There are two seperate nights in Cambridge - Wednesday and Thursday. Hope to see you there in the future !
  15. I still don't see the lack of other scavengers as an issue. The main problem with Levi is highly mobile / hard hitting crews that can take out Levi and his waifs without too much effort, such and Dreamer and Kirai, and I just don't see how having a few more scrap counters will really help counter this ?
  16. Three pages in and no mention of Som'er ?
  17. I personally think it makes sense - he is dead and so the ability should cease as well. Yes it can be frustrating, but it is very clear how it works and so can be planned for. That is why I always try to activate Levi late in the turn. It is also another good reason to take a Canine Remain as it gives you cheap Graverobber to keep creating corpse counters once Levi has bitten the dust.
  18. Cool. That is how we have been playing it - you just explained it ten times better than I did ! Cheers.
  19. Hmmmm..... interesting. So say a spell has 2/3+/3++.... Lets say the attack does severe damage. We have always played it that the initial target takes 3 damage and then from this two blast templates are placed, almost as if the blasts have been triggered by the initial damage. I could well be wrong - we don't have many Sonnia or Raspy players in the area, so it doesn't come up too often.
  20. I was under the impression that it would be minimum damage of 1 from the initial attack - I thought that armour and / or magical resistant couldn't reduce damage below 1. I have to admit, I hope I am wrong on this one !
  21. Have you considered using Waldgeist ? They are mobile, pack a decent punch and their armour helps for "Defend Me !" purposes. The other advantage is that they have good synergy with Lilith for your other crew. I have only played against Marcus rather than with him, so someone may shoot me down, but for 25 ss I would go for something like this ; Marcus 2 x Waldgeist 3 x Night Terror Jackalope
  22. ...... That's an unfortunate spelling mistake you have there :/
  23. Welcome on board. It looks like a great club you have got there - I love the sounds of Beer and Pretzel games weekend ! So, what crews do you play ?
  24. True, it could end up being a fair bit of money, but I think if you jump into another faction then you will have exactly the same issue. If you are anything like me you will want to have a few options available to you, so you would probably want to spread beyond the core crew anyway. Regarding Levi, yes the Riders and other factions constructs are great models to add to your crew, but Levi's core of SPA's, Waifs, Alyce and Desolation Engine work exceptionally well together and are a really fun crew to play. You don't need that much extra, especially with the Ressers that you already have. If you are worried about spiralling costs, then I say stick to Ressers, but maybe go for Molly rather than another master to add a bit of variety ? And then get Levi once you have got Molly
  25. Or consider getting Leveticus. He is an absolute blast to play, he can use a number of models unavailable to your current crew, but can still utilise what you have already got. Come on over to the true dark side !
