  1. The recommendations so far are pretty good and I would like to contribute with my grain of sand. I would consider the factions played by your usual playgroup and go for the one that has less players. In the end, Malifaux is a game you play with factions and having a wider pool serves for more interesting games. At least, I enjoy the pregame - that is, encounter analysis, master selection and crew building - almost as much as the game itself. And it is funnier the more options you and your oponents have.
  2. What about a summoner Youko, pulling the strings to convoke her hidden agents? I dis not see the pre-nerf Yas, but I like the model and I am looking forward to give it a try. I just do not really find the game it seems reasonable =/

  4. Yes, but we went the lazy path and chose 3 of the 4 maps for April Malifools vassal tournament. They seem to be balanced and interesting already. Summoners look too strong for us in this format, specially considering I play mainly Last Blossom -Minako and Katashiros are strong enough to unbalance a 35SS game -, and one of the other players plays Neverborn, and having access to summoned stitched looks too strong too in our opinion. As for the mentioned characters, none of us plays Bayou, so we did not really think about that kind of summoning. I don't know the keywords, so I don't really know what could be done to balance them. Maybe allowing the demise summons, but not the other ones?
  5. It is not as bad as I thought, if you share the match code and the opponent joins the game, it appears in the app and the match can be advanced.
  6. For anyone interested, things are going fine this far. It has been a good way to keep games under 3h and has helped the most inexperienced players to get a grasp on the strat and schemes. If anything, there are some crews that seem to be missing some of their pieces to function at their best, such as Honeypot. But games are short and relaxed enough it does not matter that much. Also, we all are having the chance of trying out both the effigies and emissaries, which is great too.
  7. We kind of had the same situation, we started with normal games that took 5-6h+, in which we made tons of mistakes and played badly. So we decided to start a mini league with 3 rounds: 1st HH 2nd 35SS Henchman leaded crews 3rd 50SS games So, if you are in the "we are are bored of HH games phase", I suggestst you try to play 35SS games leaded by Henchmen. You can check a discussion I opened for this asking for suggestions In this thread. Other option is to apply the restrictions and play 35 SS master leaded games: - 5 card hand - 7 SS pool limit - No summoning allowed However, I find the masters too powerful for smaller games, and removing them makes things simpler so you can focus on scoring points for the game and learning the rules. Which in the end, will speed up your games a lot.
  8. In case it might help, I believe it has to do with the filters and sorting options, because games come and go when I modify it. Also, I can create local games if I set the crews before leaving the ingame screen. If I don't set the crews it goes "away" the same as network games.

  10. On the contrary, I am glad you asked. I followed this tutorial made by Luke from Games Scenics. I was looking for not expensive, real looking trees for a while before discovering his channel. I took the version with seafoam (bought from Green Staff World I think), and instead of the spray glue to stick the branches, I found less messier with white glue and a bit of superglue were needed. (But I am afraid I'll have to use it for the flocking.) It takes some time to separate the branches but I find it relaxing and rewarding. Also, for the bases, I used flat metal rings, because we need heavier bases in case we play outside, so the wind does not make them fall. They are a WIP still, but some of them do look quite nice indeed, hehehe. Next step is to paint them with dsrk browns and later spray with glue and flocking.

  12. Checking Youko's list, and taking into account what has been said In this recent thread, I'd put Hinamatsu and Charm Warders as green and move Deadly Performance to yellow. This way, with the green buys you can make a list like: New Youko Hamasaki Crew (Ten Thunders) Size: 50 - Pool: 6 Leader: Youko Hamasaki Totem(s): Chiyo Hamasaki Hires: Hinamatsu Bill Algren Geisha Geisha 2 Charm Warder Trained Ninja Charm Warder 2 Masked Agent (With space to play with the different upgrades on different models). Additionally, I'd consider adding one versatile box as orange. Here, the Dawn Serpent seems like a good choice from a budget point of view. Being Lords of War and Silent Strike more expensive and less cost effective options.
  13. As a good self-suficient scheme runner, consider getting the Dawn Serpent. It is also cheaper to get since it comes on its own box. As for keyword models, I agree what was has been said. Charm Warders are a must and Hinamatsu is great and surgically removes key enemies. The "issue" with the rest of them is that TT's versatiles are quite strong. You may want to field them in certain situations but not always.
  14. This is a good point, since you can build a crew just with Karmic Debt box, and put Crime Syndicate as yellow. The crew could look like: Misaki Budget (Ten Thunders) Size: 50 - Pool: 5 Leader: Misaki Katanaka Totem(s): Shang Hires: Ototo Masked Agent Minako Rei Torakage Torakage 2 Torakage 3 Wanyudo And you have a couple of tricks with Ototo's masked agent+Misaki or Katashiros for that place free attack. It has less in keyword models but well, it is a giant head in flames rolling in a wheel! On the other hand, if you decide to keep the original proposed green buys, I'd swap 1 Crime Boss for 1 Sniper with trained ninja to add a ranged threat.
  15. I feel like there are too many things in red overall, specially if we see it as steps in crew roster building. Thus, I'd try to move one or too thing to orange in several keywords. For Last Blossom, for example, I'd suggest changing Wokou Raiders and Lords of War from red to orange. Wokou raiders are a great option for scheme heavy pools, and are keyword models. While Lords of War offers a Ruthless ranged beast in the form of Fuhatsu and some very versatile models in the form of 10T Brothers.
  16. I'd also recommend you start with HH, games are much shorter and you can have a good peek at the game and the system. Also, it is easier to balance, since there are less models and strat and schemes are set. Whilst a normal masters led game can be overwhelming for new players. I think it is better to tease than to bore them. And you can always have a masters game ready for more and better Malifaux!
  17. The format sounds like fun. Our playgroup is trying something similar, but with Henchman as leader and a couple mire tweaks. (Here is the link if you are interested). I would limit summoning somehow, maybe even forbid it, because anti-summoning tech would rarely be available and at lower SS it is more impactful.
  18. I finally beat the Dreamer! Yes, it had to be after the errata, but who cares! Hehehe. Actually I think he still is a great menance to all the folks at this side of the Breach.   19. After playing against her, I think she is now on the right spot. Still difficult to kill, versatile and a threat from the backline, but not the powerhouse she was. When I noticed the changes the most, were: 1) When Chompi was beating my crew, she was not able to hit me too from the safety of the backline, due to the reduced range of the attack skill. (Here I think better planification and riskier positionings are demanded now to make it work as pre-nerf). 2) When I killed her with a Katashiro. This play was mimicked from previous games where the Katashiro did nothing to Serena due to her Df 6 stat. But now, the Katashiro had even attack stat of 5 and managed to kill her because my opponent had no cards in hand and the Wd stat is lower now. She is not an auto include anymore. But anyway, when NB players get a good grasp on the new mechanics, which I think raise her support capabilities, I think she will be played in quite a few games. If anything, I'd lowered the Wd just 1 point instead of 2. And maybe raised the range of the heal to 4''.

  21. Welcome! And hopefuly see you in the real power forum - aka Ten Thunders - ^^ I agree whith what has been said, try several games and get a grasp of the game before changing too many things. I cannot help very much with crew selection, other than Lone Marshall is great, since my experience with LJ is only one game against her. What I'd recommend to you, is giving Henchman Hardcore a shot (the rules are in Gaining Grounds). I think it is a great way to learn the basic rules quickly. There are no masters and only 4 minis for faction, so they don't have the depth of normal games, but you can finish them in an hour. After that, you can go for games with masters and more SS, maybe proxying a couple of things, until you feel comfortable with 50. And in the meantime, I am sure you will get plenty of good suggestions from other folks in the forums 😃
  22. Do you really find it worth to spend 14SS into that combo? Don't they get taken out fast? Sounds great, but pretty fragile imo.

  24. I agree, you used 2 high masks to get this result and some good luck. Not to mention the lack of defensive tech mentioned and that your opponent seems to be inexperienced too for what you said. By the way, not as important, but Nekima's black blood should have killed the katashiro and thus, healed her for 1, right? =D
