  1. True. My son likes guild riflemen who can hold focus round-to-round. I was hoping I could Obey one, use all his focus to shoot the one next to it. Thanks for the responses everyone.
  2. While controlling an enemy model using Obey can you spend the controlled models focuses while they perform the action? Assuming the answer is yes can you spend Focused even if you take an action that has no flips (e.g. taking a walk action)? It seems like the answer is yes to me, but wanted to get confirmation since I can see an argument against both of these. Obey: Target non-Leader model immediately performs a (1) Action chosen and controlled by this model's controller... Focused +1: This model may remove this Condition when declaring an Action to gain a number of to the Action's duel and damage flip equal to the value of the Focused Condition removed.

  4. I don't understand, how do they draw two cards? The TTB trigger says: Mongoose Style: After succeeding, this model may choose to either draw a card and then discard a card, or heal 2 damage. I don't see the combo that lets you draw two cards. Also, I don't think you can discard the Ace of Rams for Mongoose Style if you cheat it in for the Ram. Jacob's Ace In the Hole ability says you can pick up aces "...after the Action resolves." The TTB's Dance of Heavens action would not resolve until after you draw a card and discard a card.

  6. I noticed another odd timing issue. Taelor's trigger: Crushing Blow: After Succeeding, this Attack ignores Armor and Hard to Kill". By strict interpretation of the rules the attack would not ignore armor until after step 5 (after attack is resolved and all the damage had been dealt) correct? RAI is pretty obvious and I'm not suggesting the attack does not ignore armor or hard to kill, I was just wondering if I was missing something or if this is just an oversight in the phasing. I noticed several other models with similar issues in the first book.
  7. I agree, if you want some help resolving a sticky rule situation you need to post the exact words from the entire rule. Sezar already did that in this thread so I didn't repeat the whole thing and simply restate the parts I think are pertinent to this debate. I also agree that when Alpha is used it is an activation from that beast, but alpha specifically states "This Activation does not count as the target's Activation this Turn". The intent of this rule is obviously to make it clear that Alpha does not "consume" the models Activation for the turn. When Horror refers to "their activation" is clearly meant to end an activation while in progress. I still think a literal interpretation of the rules means Alpha activation is not "their" Activation, but in typing this response I see your point more clearly. I was over zealous saying their was no rule to contradict my interpretation. I apologize for that.
  8. I had always considered "after damaging" and "after ... suffers damage" to mean the exact same thing and would have resolved the timing as if they were both triggers, but after reading the "Safe in my Bed" FAQ entry. I think you made the right call and will use the resolve as soon a possible for any non-specific timing issues in the future.
  9. You can argue you don't like the way it works, or that it is not what was intended, but I don't see any wiggle room here. Horror says during their activation, alpha says this is NOT their activation, so RAW they gain paralyzed and complete the alpaha action. Can anyone point to a rule that contradicts this? I agree it makes more sense that they lose the rest of the alpha activation, but that is a feeling not a rule.
  10. I like what SharpObject has to say. It makes sense since everything movement is measured from top down. I wouldn't consider you in base contact, but I still think it is the best option in this instance.

  12. I haven't played against Pandora, but my advice against any crew the fights in a bubble is select your schemes accordingly and make them come to you. I have a friend how likes to play Von Schill and turtle up around around his healing box. I send a couple harassers - a couple of Thunder archers with no LOS work great - and send two sets of scheme runners out away from his bubble and drop schemes. Most of the time I'll still have a model or two that is not in either group. They can help harass, drop additional scheme markers, or run interference for the scheme runners. He'll have to choose to break up his bubble or leave some of your scheme runners alone. Your trouble shooters can engage the pieces of the bubble as it separates.
  13. I recently wen up against a Lucius crew that included 3 Guild Riflmen, Guild Captain, Barbaros, Mekima, and possibly someone else... Anyway I took 2 Thunder Archers, Sensei Yu with Blot the Sky and Wandering River Style, Misaki with Stalking Bisento and Recalled Training, and some Tengu. I kept the Archers and Yu together and out of LOS of the riflemen used the Blot the Sky attacks almost exclusively. Yu could push the archers and give fast. On the rounds I was able to I double focused with the archers giving +++/+++ to their Blot the Sky attacks. I attacked the easiest targets to hit and used the blasts to hit those in better cover/better Df. It devastated the riflemen who never got to shoot back, since they never got LOS. I use Misaki like a yo-yo. If Yu wasn't pushing/fasting archers he was doing it to Misaki. I'd push her out with fast, giving her effectively 5 +/+ actions against stalked targets. She'd hit hard, use Next Target to push 4" back, then use her last action or two to get to relative safety. The focusing/Blot the Sky/Archer combo is very effective as well as long as you can keep the enemy from engaging them. Misaki covering so much ground she can get into ranged units easy then get out or make sure she is engaged with as many a possible to they can use projectile attacks or protect your archers from engaging models. Of course the main thing is complete your Strats/Schemes. None of this would have mattered - except for assassinating Lucius - if my Tengu weren't dropping scheme markers while the rest of the crew tied up the enemy.
  14. Ok, sounds like it is a choice. Thanks.
  15. Yes, you need to choose to climb down or you fall. But is it a choice? Are you required to climb down if able? In some cases it could make a difference if you need to get far enough a way to drop a scheme marker for example. Or if you are lured and it is a choice you would be required to fall to get a close a possible to the luring model.
  16. If a model moves off the edge of a climbable terrain piece can it choose to fall instead of climb? Intuitively it seems the answer should be yes. Are there any rules in the rulebook or FAQ that support a yes or no? I did not find any. I'm also curious if there is a consensus in the forum, the only topic I found dealing with this was from v1.5.
  17. Page 33 of the small rule book it says "When a player Activates one of her controlled models the Activation follows these steps in order: 1. Resolve activation steps 2. Generate AP" etc. From that I would say the model is considered activated before does anything
  18. I've been putting her with another henchmen/enforcer (Kang or Toshiro so far) and two Thunder archers in close formation. Someone in this clump has the Blot the Sky upgrade. I move these guys up the center of the board with Misaki, and some Tengu as flankers/harassers/scheme runners. Between the archers being able to shoot without LOS and Brace the enemy is usually softened up by the time the get in close. This group will not stand up to a dedicated assault of good melee models, but with Misaki nearby they have something else to think about. Also if they are dedicating a lot of forces to this group then hopefully my Tengu are able to do their job. We are a small and inexperienced group of Malifaux players so it may be our inexperience or just the make up of the crews I go against that has let me use Yamaziko effectively so far. Fuhatsu may be a better choice to fill this role. I'm still tinkering with this list.
  19. I play Misaki and I'm looking forward to trying Sensei Yu with her. I agree with Paradigm that the pushing effects look great for her, but what attracted me to him is he can use the (0) actions of a friendly Leader. It is possible to Stalk a model and get the extra attack on in the same turn. Also the Stalked condition lasts "until this model takes this action again". Since Sensei Yu can also use the Stalk action you could have two models stalked at the same time. This would give Misaki two potential targets and allowing her the potential to walk two extra times during the turn. Once when each of the stalked models ends there activation if they charge or walk that turn.
  20. The wording seems vague any poorly worded bust as SOLKAN pointed out in the Pandora’s Self Harm question in the FAQ is states “Attacks that require the target have a certain trait in order to target are generally worded, “Target model with a z Attack...” The beginning for Final Debt matches up word for word “Target model with the Brilliance Characteristic“. MYYRA points out that the FAQ says “These are not changes to the rules, simply clarifications for the convenience of Malifaux players. Each question is about an individual situation, and may not necessarily apply to other situations.” and that “The rules of the game are found in the rulebook and in the errata.“ I agree with this, but since we are not sure how to interpret the language, I think this is a clarification issue not a rule issue which is the domain of the FAQ. Saying that RAW Final Debt does or does not require Brilliance for a legal target is putting the cart before the horse. The text that is being interpreted is RAW for this abilities targeting requirement. How it is interpreted is RAW for Final Debt. It seems to me the game designers made it very clear in the FAQ that in general when they say “Target model with X” they intend it as a requirement. To me that means whenever you see that text it should be taken as a requirement, unless there is specific text to the contrary. Is there anything in the text of Final Debt, the rules, or the FAQ that justifies an exception other than it could be interpreted another way?
  21. Follow up question. Most of the time when you measure distance in Malifaux it is top down only, disregarding vertical distance. Is this the case for the question above?
  22. I see the logic here, I just don't see a rule supporting it. The same logic could be applied to the Burning trigger example in my earlier post. But I think you are right, I think that is the best justification we will get for the FAQ ruling.
  23. You are correct sir. Massive brain fart on my part. I'll edit my last post.
  24. Very nice. I have on suggestion. On the cards were you need to note something down (like Bodyguard) make a space at the bottom where the note can be added right on the card.
