  1. In general I'd recommend people play the most current Gaining Grounds. Mostly so then you are on the same page as everyone else (the vast majority of people on the forums/facebook groups/etc will play the most up-to-date Gaining Grounds), so it can be good to play the current rules. This can easily be toggled in the app. That said, every meta is different. If your meta likes the base game, play the base game!
  2. Huh, weird. Seems like it must be an error, or a rules errata/FAQ will set it straight. Perhaps it was meant to be climbable (so you could climb on top and take the damage?) Or perhaps the designer just forgot about this partiuclar rules interaction. EDIT: Unless I'm the one in error xD
  3. Not sure if anyone has said this yet and I'm probably just slow on the uptake, but carrion effigy/emissary to shut down the strong healing and soulstone reduction of the Arcanists is a neat trick. Although I imagine those models don't live long against Arcanists xD
  4. I don't believe there is. What effect is generating impassable, hazardous terrain though? If you want hazardous, impassable terrain when setting up a table, define some terrain as impassable, and then the surrounding area as hazardous. For example a toxic rock might be impassable, with the area around it hazardous (poison 1). Edit: technically if a model moves through the hazardous, impassable terrain without ignoring it, they would take damage.
  5. I thought the Neverborn were the indigenous people of Malifaux? Or are some humans native to Malifaux as well?
  6. Well, I wasn't too impressed until I read the totem. Solid package!
  7. Here are the lists: Reva & candles Dead Rider Carrion emissary Toshiro & whisper Yin & GST His list: Tara & Karina Aionus Nothing beast Scion of the void Hodgepodge emissary Midnight stalker When building my list, I did a search for don't mind me models in outcasts and figured I could handle Big Jake. I forgot Emissary can hand it out as an upgrade, so I'm going to have to figure out a new strategy xD
  8. For example, even if you CAN scamper after terrifying (instead of after the action)... The attack still hits (even if you scamper out of range). This is because the measurement for range is done when declaring the target (the thing that causes terrifying to happen), so by the time the scamper moves out of range the range measurement is already done.
  9. Also, to support Da Git's point - the crew is built around positive flips rather than card draw. So you absolutely have to abuse that (and get good at knowing where the jokers are). Burning (for Reva and Draugr), focus (from blasphemous ritual), and built in positives on Bete really add up. You can see an extra 10+ cards a turn this way. It also means you will be more likely to get the triggers you want - for example, masks on Bete and Shieldbearers. (Of course for now you should use a bone pile instead of Bete, they fill similar roles, except the bone pile can't swap to backup beater as easily).
  10. The limit should be just over 11", for the target. 8 inches to the corpse, 30mm for the base, and 2" for Reva's melee range. Although the word 'through' implies the corpse is 12" away which is definitely wrong xD
  11. Yan Lo looks quite fun to me. Crazy combos, immense depth, and a wide variety of tools you can pull out. Not sure how he plays in TT though.
  12. Is there a fresh signup every month? Got a tournament this weekend, and might try to convince people to join for next month.
  13. I've declared Reva into Outcasts (Tara). So looks like my plan A of abusing models that self-bury is bad. Now to come up with another list!
  14. That's really a question for your opponent rather than us. I think it is fine if both players like it, but in my experience players don't like accepting a disadvantage on one side (then the win doesn't feel as real).
  15. Searching the word "replace" in the app should give a full list, right?
  16. I don't know, there's not that many woman I know of that fit these kinds of proportions: It's like she is based off old-school barbie xD Not to mention the pose, of course!
  17. @dannydb, any chance of adding a ruling to the FAQ for the world series? Personally I favour Solkan's interpretation (which appears to be rules as intended, shouldn't work, unless I misunderstand him). However, if you tell me my Bete now has another tool in her toolbox, I certainly won't object xD
  18. Lol, just found out that my user names didn't match on the form and on Discord (Maniacal_cackle vs. Maniacal_Cackle). It's case sensitive, so make sure to double check your user names on the form! I've updated my discord name to match the form now
  19. Well, you were the first one to bring up she dresses that way for fire protection, I just pointed out that was not a realistic way to dress for fire protection. That argument sort of just shuts down conversation though, as you could make that argument about literally anything. For Kaeris, her armor fits one of the most commonly criticised tropes about female fantasy armor. That type of armor would not be helpful at all in battle, and seems completely out of place on a model like Kaeris (as opposed to say Myranda where you can say there is a bit more of an argument for the way she dresses).
  20. I was referring specifically to the sculpts, since that is largely what the thread is about. I have plenty to say on those other topics (and have in other threads xD) Kaeris is wearing body armor that barely covers her up. For practical gear for dealing with fire, she should be wearing something fire resistant (like a leather apron properly treated), not having bare skin. EDIT: for reference, here are some high-heat work environments and examples of what the clothing might look like:
  21. After you get started, some questions to ask yourself to help shape your playstyle with Reva. She has so many different play styles, it is important to find one that works for you. Are you using Reva as a beater or scheme runner? If using her as a beater, you need a way for her to attack with her melee attack at range (through corpses or shielded). You also need to figure out how you're generating ~5 burning a turn to support her flips. If using her as a scheme runner, you need to consider what the rest of your crew is doing to keep her free to scheme. (I often swap between both roles when I use her). How are you keeping Reva alive? She is super squishy, so you have to figure out how to protect her: good positioning, shieldbearers, killing enemy threats, etc. EDIT: Another angle to consider: Do you need to keep Reva alive? I often pick her into pools where it doesn't matter if she dies or not. Which themes do you want to emphasise? Revenant can produce a ton of burning, which can be really solid for Let Them Bleed. They can also have a huge corpse focus (Reva + Restless spirit produce up to 12 corpses a game). There is also a shielded subtheme, as well as a broad mobility theme (almost the whole crew is based around high movement or movement tricks). Which ones do you like, and how can you abuse them?
  22. Thing worth noting of course is that I think Wyrd do well the majority of the time: Molly, Kirai, Reva, Shieldbearers, Philip and the Nanny, etc. And I think the same is true for many other factions. For every Kaeris, there is a Rasputina or Toni that is done pretty tastefully. So I think the question for Wyrd is more of "how do they lift their standards a bit" than "how do we fix everything." More women on the design team would possibly help, but for all I know their design team might already be largely women xD EDIT: although that article is pretty disappointing.
  23. See my edit, the male gunsmith has the same type of harness so you have a point there. However the level of clothing on the two still stands as a stark difference.
  24. Another thought is that it may not be the 'fault' of the designers. Sculptors typically use reference images. If you google reference images for these sorts of concepts, you're likely to get some overly-sexualised results.
  25. I'm not sure this is a good example. A quick google of such harnesses indicates they are intended for concealed weapons (and also the first news result I found was someone accidentally shooting themselves using a bra holster). So not sure they are practical at all (unless it is concealing the weapon under a coat). Real world items often exist for impractical reasons (vanity, etc). EDIT2: although note the male gunsmith actually has the same misplaced chest holster xD But the larger issue with those two pieces is the discrepancy in how clothed they are. EDIT: for reference, here is a more realistic image of a combat-ready woman who isn't undercover:
