  1. Dual faction characters being included in a crew belonging to one of their two factions and then counting as the other almost seems like cheating, doesn't it?
  2. I'm not a writer, but I think that the best way to do it is to just write the character like you would a straight character and slowly introduce details as they are appropriate to the story being told. I'm of the opinion that for a small company like Wyrd, LGBT characters are a minefield. Unless they have a good story that they want to tell that needs a character to be something other than straight they run the risk of slighting the community that they are attempting to include. They're much better off with characters that have ambiguous sexuality.
  3. It seems like Malifaux writers are in a rough position with writing a character as LGBT. The LGBT community has been struggling to ditch the image of being a group of hedonistic deviants. It would be hard to make a character LGBT without feeding into those old stereotypes since most of the cast of Malifaux is made up of sociopaths.
  4. What ever you quoted or linked isn't working.
  5. Joss and Howard are solid and get a lot of use in other Arcanist crews. Unlike Summoners with a more diverse summoning pool, Ramos doesn't need a lot of extra purchases for his summons. A box of Arachnids is nice to add but if you magnetize the arachnids so that you can use them as either Steam Arachnids or Steam Arachnid Swarms you should be okay for summons with what comes in the box. That gives you a pretty solid core of a crew. The remaining points can be used to tweak the crew based on the needs of a particular game. Pick up an Electrical Creation or Mobile Toolkit to prime the pump of Ramos's spider summoning and a handful of models that allow you to tailor to the schemes and strategy. I think the big selling point of going with Ramos is that it's a good starting point for the Arcanist faction. You'll probably ultimately end up expanding beyond one master so I'd find a faction that you like the look of at least three masters before picking something up.
  6. I've finally gotten a few games under my belt and have realized that I really like to have cards in my hand. Arcane Reservoir has been great and Imbued Energies might have been great if I wouldn't have drawn nothing but crap while I was holding nothing but crap. Are there any other good ways for Arcanists to get more cards, refill their hand, or cycle out bad cards for good? P.S. Has anyone else found that "Insert other media" doesn't seem to be working since the forum upgrade?
  7. Drat. I always get those symbols mixed up.
  8. Pretty sure the Steam Arachnids wouldn't take damage from Walking Rage Machine either. Speaking of Gremlin constructs that would be fun with Ramos, the Survivors look like they'd be cool. There aren't a lot of range 9 attacks that can benefit from Under Pressure and Bleeding Edge Tech would let them instantly heal back the damage from Reckless.
  9. If Ramos can't get Iron Skeeters, how about he just settles for a scrap pooping Mechanized Porkchop?
  10. How's that work out for legality of the upgrades? Are upgrades and stat cards from a book that was available briefly and in limited quantities legal for tournament play?
  11. I'm hoping that Ramos will be able to hire out of faction constructs just because I'm looking for an excuse to buy some Iron Skeeters.

No. The condition (like all conditions) last until it says it ends or until something else says it does. In the case of Adrenaline, it decrements by one at the end of each round and heals a wound.
  13. Yeah, her summons seem like they might be hard to come by and when they do they aren't the most useful models for Arcanist crews. Both Anna and Hannah look like they could be cool but I'm not sold on paying the merc tax on either of them.
  14. I've got a mostly full can of Army Painter Anti-Shine Matte Spray Varnish that seems to be getting clogged very frequently. If I clean the nozzle out with a needle I can usually get a couple of useful sprays out of it but it is starting to become almost unusable. Is there something I can do to get this can working like new? The only other spray varnish I've ever used by made by Citadel. I don't remember every having any issues with that can clogging. I used it mostly to apply very heavy coats to cardboard tokens so each spray was for much longer than what I'm doing on my Malifaux models.
  15. That is indicating the timing window of the Horror duel, not saying that the Horror duel is part of the action that triggered it.
  16. The bit I've bolded isn't consistent with the Focus condition text that you have quoted. There is a difference between "all duels during an action" and "the Action's duel and damage flip".
  17. Seems like he might help to be able to eek out some last minute points on Last Stand as well. He only counts as a single Enforcer since it's a Scheme and not a Strategy but he's the cheapest Enforcer in the faction at 5 points and you can bring him back in round 5 after you've lost a few to get back up to 3. Being a cheap Enforcer should probably come in handy for Hunting Party as well.
  18. I'm curious as to what options Arcanists have for including summoners in their crews other than masters. The only two I can think of are: Anna Lovelace: Trigger on ranged attack to summon Seishen or Mindless Zombie on Moderate or Severe damage. Mechanical Rider: Summon 4 point Arcanist construct after pushing as a zero action. It looks like Marcus may have a few options that are only available to him via beasts that he brings in from other factions. I'm not counting abilities like Myranda's that use summoning as a way to transform another model. Are there any that I am missing?
  19. I had a 6 turn game last night where I only ended up getting 1 usable tome (8 or higher) in my hand the entire game (it came in round 3). I stoned for cards in the first round, had Arcane Reservoir and got cards from Imbued Protection. Any game plan that has Ramos potentially needing to stone for 2 tomes in the first round to get at least two spiders on the table would worry me after that.
  20. Stat wise, Jake seems to be on par with what a 5 stone model should be. He's then got a bunch of tricks to help score Schemes and Strats. Don't Mind Me is a nice ability to have if you have any schemes that require an Interact action. I'm tempted to pick him up for his Scheme shenanigans, and I'd be paying the merc tax to use him.
  21. The Horror duel isn't part of the action, is it? I think it would work like this. 1. Take 1AP focus action. 2. Declare attack and remove the focus condition. 3. Perform Horror duel (no flips from focus). 4. If the Horror duel is passed proceed with the attack getting positive flips. If the Horror duel is failed the focus is wasted. I could be wrong, but I don't think that there is anyway to have a Horror duel benefit from focus since the Horror duel is not a declared action.
  22. This is Malifaux. Does anything stay dead?
  23. Under Pressure. It gives Ramos Counterspell and gives other friendly constructs a plus flip to ML.
  24. Probably because it takes a seven of Tomes to use it so it competes with Summon The Swarm for cards. I suppose that this is less problematic if the 3 soul stones you save end up in your soul stone pool. It also has to compete for upgrades slots on Ramos.
  25. I'm in the process of trying to build up a terrain collection up from nothing and I'm trying to do it on the cheap. I'm new to all of this crafty hobby stuff and I'm shooting to have terrain that I can put on the table that is easily recognizeable for what it is supposed to represent. Once I have enough stuff to properly fill a table I'll probably start trying to add better pieces but would like whatever I put time and effort into now to still be usuable. I spent a couple of bucks to buy a bag of wooden BBQ skewers (just under a foot long and a bit thicker than a tooth pick) and a bag of flat craft sticks (not quite as wide as a popsicle stick, with squared off ends) to build some fences. Unless I go crazy on fences I'm going to have a bunch of these things left over. What else can I make out of these things (with other inexpensive components)? I've got buildings covered but still need all sort of other stuff to throw on the table.
