  1. My Arcanist playing friend just pointed this out to me! Could be the new Arcanist construct the Basilisk from Wave 3? http://www.gamewire.belloflostsouls.net/the-wyrd-gen-con-sale-is-here/
  2. Here are my picks: Tier 1: Carrion and Brutal. Both of these ooze character and I really like how they're kind of a stylized (and badass!) version of the faction symbol. Tier 2: Shadow and Mysterious. Really like both of these too, especially since they seem to fit the feel of their parent factions. Tier 3: Arcane and Lucky. I've always thought this Arcane was a cool piece of artwork, but was more or less ambivalent overall. I feel the same about Lucky, and I swear we've seen this artwork already! Just can't place where I've seen it. Tier 4: Hodgepodge. Honestly, this is the only one I don't like. It fits the theme of Outcast (you can just see this guy wandering around), but I had a much different image of him in mind. More like the Dark Wander from Diablo 2; I wanted him to fit the wandering theme but also be menacing at the same time, so approaching the wanderer was risky. I may try to source the metal Hamelin avatar to fill in for the Hodgepodge Emissary.
  3. OSP, I think you're observations are astute. Zoraida makes every model in her crew better, rather than being focused on a specific keyword or type of model(think minions and puppets for Collodi). However, like Dirial mentioned there are some models that do really well with her, such as Nurses+Voodoo Doll and any model with strong 1 AP actions. For example, I've had success with Coppelius racking up a large number of Eyeball counters and then summoning a bunch of Alps. Basically, Zoraida will make your crew run at peak efficiency, but a V8 engine is still going to be more powerful than a V4.
  4. I love this thread already. Does Strippy Butternuts have actual nuts? By the way, I'm totally stealing this name for an NPC in my next RPG campaign... Great work, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of your stuff SEG!
  5. Not what I was expecting (but to be fair, I didn't really have an image of this guy in my head). But I really like him/her/it! Has a very Lovecraftian Cultist feel to go along with the rest of Tara's Void creatures. Can't wait to see renders and have it available for purchase, because I'll definitely be picking it up. To fit with the rest of my Tara crew, I'll probably chop off the feet to make him float and remove an arm to keep my theme of 3.
  6. I've done a quick skim through the new setup, and I have to say that I really like it! The homepage is more intuitive to navigate, and the resources are easier to access. I especially like the blurbs on the main factions and the descriptions of the masters' background and playstyle. Plus having lots of sweet artwork plastered everywhere makes for some nice eye candy! It also makes me happy that the image for the forums is a barroom brawl haha.
  7. Ah whoops - good catch! You can still push your own models around by Zoraida interacting with the Doll. I've found this useful in a couple situations.
  8. I've come across Chiaki a few times when playing Zoraida and dealt with her in a few different ways if I'm worried about condition removal. First, I can use things like Hemmed on my own models to put positive conditions on them or push them around or not even use the Voodoo Doll heavily that game. Alternatively, you can make Chiaki a primary target since she's pretty easy to kill if you have Ca actions. You can also Hem her with the Voodoo Doll and then beat on the Doll or put one of the Nurse's conditions on her so she can't actually remove any conditions. You can also wait to summon the Voodoo Doll/Hem a target until after Chiaki activates, ensuring that you'll get some benefit before having to re-Hem.
  9. People also need to remember that Wyrd doesn't have their own plastic injection molding machines (at least as far as I know), so they have to follow the schedule of their production company at least to some extent. Additionally, there's a long time between sculpting a model and having it ready for sale since you have to get the mold tooled, chop the model up, create the sprue, get all the package done, and distribute it. Wyrd is at least partially dependent on other companies for those steps. Now we can certainly debate whether the order that models are released is appropriate, but it needs to be tempered by the fact that Wyrd is still dependent on other companies on the road between sculpting a model and selling it.
  10. Those look really amazing, but the prices are pretty steep. It would be super expensive to outfit a whole table with that terrain. Really do like the prepainted nature of the pieces though - with my limited hobby time, painting terrain is low on my priority list.
  11. Looks like a fun list! I'll have to show this idea to my Guild playing friend since he loves the Judge and Exorcist. Also, I really thought this thread was going to be about something very different for some reason haha.
  12. I don't think this is a really good use for Tara's AP. Consider that you're using one of your master's AP to make a short range shooting attack at 2/3/4 (if I remember correctly - don't have my cards on me), when that AP could be used to give something like the Nothing Beast, Bishop, Killjoy, or even a Ronin Fast instead. Fast Ronin are nasty if you've never tried them out! Even a fast Void Wretch will do more work than a Desperate Merc for the same cost. While I'm all for trying new ideas, I don't think this one will be all that successful unfortunately. However, if anyone does try it out, I'd be interested to read about the results.
  13. No problem! Hope you have fun trying out the list! Another thing I should mention is that Justin said somewhere (maybe during the Beta, can't remember) that the old Avatar models are official proxies for the Emissaries. So you can use the old Levy Avatar as the Emissary to keep the visual theme.
  14. Just looked back through my records, and the action appeared on the 2/24/15 update. Here's the text for that action: (1) They Gather: Summon a Horseman model into base contact with this model, then sacrifice this model. This Action may only be taken on the first Turn and only if this Crew hired three or more Horseman models at the start of the game. The upgrade also lets your hire the three Riders even though you normally wouldn't be able to.
  15. The 0SS Levy specific upgrade for the Hodgepodge Emissary allows it to sacrifice itself on the first turn to summon one of the Riders.
  16. One of my friends and I have played this list multiple times, and we think the best upgrade is Desolate Soul. Having Abominations running around takes some pressure off the Riders and gives you extra activations. We've found that keeping the Waifs and Levy close to the Riders isn't terribly difficult unless you're trying to spread out all over the board (in which case, why run this list?). When I play Levy, I tend to have 1 "safe" Waif and one more aggressively placed Waif. Conveniently, two of the Riders are ranged and can babysit the "safe" Waif, while the other two melee focused Riders can babysit the aggressive Waif. Levy himself is always mobile since he can teleport to the Waifs at the end of the turn, and remember that they're Undead so are targets for a big teleport from Rebirth. Overall, I think this list is very solid; you're probably not going to be taking any major tournaments with it, but when played well it can be very difficult to deal with. As long as the Riders don't take crippling damage within the first two turns, they become really insane. Also, keep in mind that you don't have to sacrifice the Hodgepodge Emissary - you can always keep it in play if you think that it will be more beneficial than the 4th rider.
  17. I thought it was a little strange when I woke up in a tub of ice this morning... Also, off the top of my head, with the crew boxes being released at GenCon, it's possible to have all the masters in plastic now right? I might be missing some since I don't have my books on me.
  18. I have to point out how much I love the artwork of the little girl Stolen eating the rat in Hamelin's crew box. She's like, "What? Yeah, I'm just have a light snack. You have a problem with that? Of course it's gluten free..." Also, hot damn are those Effigies sexy...
  19. So much goodness here. Nathan do you accept kidneys as payment? I mean I only need one right? Or maybe I could sell other peoples' kidneys...
  20. Totally freaking pumped for this. Absolutely love the Rat Catchers and the Rat Kings. Also sad that it's not available at GenCon Any news on how much it will cost?
  21. This board looks awesome! Definitely excited to see it finished. My favorite tile so far is the one from post 19 on the bottom of the first page. It just seems so versatile for some reason.
  22. I have a question about technical limitations for producing 28-30mm plastic models I've been wondering about for a long time that's broadly applicable to this thread. I'm not sure if any of Wyrd's sculptors are on here or if Nathan can answer this but here goes. People have noted that many 28-30mm women have quote, "boobs bigger than their heads," and I'm wondering whether this sort of feature is due to the small scale of the models and the technical limitations of converting a sculpt into a physical model (i.e. the mold). For example, in 30mm scale, Kang is a big dude. But if he were scaled up to real human size, he'd be a 6'6" 280lb hulk with 22" biceps and hands like shovels. Viktoria of Blood would have DDD cups at normal human size while her boobs look pretty much normal at 30mm. So what I'm getting at is whether there's sufficient manufacturing capacity at 28-30mm scale to capture the difference in facial features between a white dude and a hispanic dude or to sculpt a woman with small boobs and have her not look like a man. I've wondered about this sort of thing for awhile, since most models at this scale tend to have exaggerated features.
  23. Don't forget that she's also competing with Friekorps Trappers for 2SS less in the sniper spot. She'll do more damage at less than 6" than a trapper and has the ability to move out of engagement just like the trapper, while the Trapper will consistent do more damage at long range. She fights better in close combat and can carry upgrades as well. I'd say defenses are slightly in favor of Angel Eyes since she can use SS, but the Trapper has From the Shadows in its favor. If I just wanted a model purely to snipe, I'd probably hire the trapper, but I'll certainly have to play with angel eyes before passing final judgement. I'll have to think about some filthy Angel Eyes/master combos to really put her through the paces.
  24. I still stand my my earlier comment, but I didn't know this! I'll definitely have to go see it now. Thanks for enlightening me Dirial! Aw, this makes me sad. I really enjoyed the playtesting and arguing on the forum, but I can understand how the format was frustrating for Justin and the other developers. As much as I'd like to participate in future playtesting, I'll be happy as long as new releases get extensively tested to ensure compatibility and similar power levels to older models. This is a trend that I've noticed too - I don't post on other forums, but I skim DakkaDakka from time to time. You wouldn't believe the angst people have over the rules for GW games (for good reason!), and there's an entire sub-forum dedicated to fan made rules or alterations of the official rules. Besides that, in just about every game I've ever played there are a small number of things that either don't work the way they're intended to or are simply too good and negate some options. Because of this,it seems most gamers like to alter the rules to their satisfaction. I was going to come in and drop some evolutionary biology knowledge on everyone, but Bengt beat me too it. Good explanation!
  25. Definitely like Grimwell, but I'm not completely sold on Angel Eyes since has such different ranges for all her attacks. Seems like it would be tough to get her to run at full efficiency, but I'll test her out before finalizing my opinion. Going to try Grimwell out with Tara, Jack, and Zoraida since they can give him a way to Focus, Move, and then give someone a nice brain enema with that fun saw of his. I like this idea more and more the more I consider it... For a stater box, both Henchmen seem pretty balanced against each other and they're simple enough that new players shouldn't have any issues running them. There seem to be a nice mix of rules of each that can introduce new players to the game, and I really like that there's enough depth in both to be useful for veteran players.
