  1. Hi, I would like to share my up to date buildings and table elements. Further on I will show some of the steps on how I make the stuff. I’m trying to build a semi-modular city board which transports the nightly atmosphere of the Malifaux artwork (chapeaux dear artists!). Even though it might be to dense or a bit unpractical (“Lets walk up this tower [for the view]; it’s only 30” up!”) I want to build a “downtown”. After all, in games, I will not need to place all the terrain pieces :-) Hope You like it (first pictures will follow soon). Regards, Timo
  2. Hey folks, i´m pretty sure that many of you already know about it, but maybe there are also some people who don´t. I´m talking about Loot Studios. They provide on a monthly subscription basis some cool STL-Files for 3D-Printers. Every month they release a package with miniatures and suitable terrain with a different theme. These serve mostly for P&P games but the terrain they offer, also works good for Malifaux in many situations. Like this month for example is a true eldorado for every Bayouplay out there. The quality in details is just amazing. And there are other pieces in old bundles too, that fit really well. If you are joining now, and want some of the old stuff, you can purchase single packs seperatly. If you want to check out: www.loot-studios.com Greetings Sphynxy
  3. Hello. I have 2 similar questions: 1. Model A stands on the roof of a building. Model B is on the ground btb to the building. Model A will move off the roof and must fall onto model B. What happens in this case? 2. Model A is at the top of the Destructible Terrain Ht 2+. Model B Sz 1 comes btb to this Terrain under Model A and destroys the Terrain. What happens in this case?
  4. New to the forum and game. My buddy Kurt bought me a crew for Christmas and I drug my feet I. Getting into the game, but with COVID hitting I took the time to read the rules, put the gremlins together and build a board. With this project it has to be a show stopper, something that our local Henchman can use to demo the game and lure people in. With this first one I was really inspired with the Borderlands DLC Tentacles, Guns and Love, there is one area of the map with a series of fish vendors and houses smothered together that I wanted to emulate. This is a rough approximation, but going for that feel. The buildings and vendor carts will be the modular parts. It has been a lot of fun using some of the techniques that Black Magic Crafts employs.
  5. How ignoring terrain but having to physically place in the board interact? I mean, Incorporeal states the model ignores terrain (not that it may ignore terrain); so I guess placing an incorporeal model on top of a building/terrain is legal, but why can I place it on top of something it is ignoring? The alternative and non-intended reading (imo) being that a model moves ignoring that terrain which would cause it to end its movement overlaping the terrain which is an ilegal placement, so that model cannot be moved anywhere near of terrain. Can a Incorporeal model move on top of a multi floor building or any movement will make it fall throught the floor? If an incorporeal model can move on top of a multi floor building, can it decide to walk through the floor and fall into a lower floor? Ty in advance
  6. Hello. Sooo.. A short introduction of myself: I started playing and painting miniatures back in the days of Hero Quest and Warhammer 40k second edition. After some 15 years of active playing, I have been quite inactive (family, work, even other hobbies..) Also I have had some issues with my shoulders / neck, which have somewhat limited my painting. Three years ago I found Malifaux, and bought some miniatures with no intent to play the game - I was planning to just use them for role playing and such. Anyway, I love the aesthetics a lot. And like the characterful rules a lot as well. I have played very casually, meaning like less than 20 games during that three years, but I like the game and hobby side a lot. Now for a few months I have had some time, health and energy to work on a few of my Swampfiends and some gaming terrain, so I thought I might post a few pictures here. I admit, this is my first time using Imgur, and I hope I got it right. I also have the Bokor, Adze, Lucky Emissary and Merris coming in the post to finish off the team. Unfortunately, Bad Things Happened to my Zoraida and her totem a long ago, when I used some parts of both for other projects as I was not intending to play her. So some kind of proxy for them as well as First Mate is coming. I doubt I will play her much anyway, as I have understood from the forum posts that she might provide somewhat negative play experiences. And as I play very rarely, I rather avoid that. I also have Lucius crew ordered, that should be more than enough to paint for the next year. I think I will try to motivate myself to get it painted by joining the monthly challenge. Hopefully casual updates will appear here also. At least I will be building more terrain whenever I get the money to buy some tufts and need an hour or two self-therapy session.. 😃 Cheers, Pastori

  8. Hello! I am new to Malifaux! Do Wyrd official / any of you got any standard/epic battlefield set-up suggestion for Malifaux? Like dust_2 map for Counter Strike or Summoner's rift for the league. Just want to have some reference for a fair battlefield set-up.
  9. I have nothing and am looking for a good place to start. I read on another post that for a 3 x 3 game area you should cover a 3rd with terrain, is this a default amount or is there advantages/disadvantages to less/more. Going to get a cobblestone mat with the 3e markings because i am going to need all the help i can get but where do i start on buildings and such. Is there guide line of "must haves" and then "nice to haves" to make the game playable or can i just wing it? I will be making some bits no idea how far my skills will take me but crates, walls and such should be within my abilities to start with. Many thanks
  10. So here's the situation: I was running a Lilith list against my friend, and I used the Transfixing Gaze spell to push one of his units into hazardous terrain. The ability says that the model in question takes damage if it ends the push in base contact with hazardous or impassable terrain. He argues that this damage is from the terrain and not the spell action, therefore the 1/2/3 flip replaced the 1/2/4 for moving through Hazardous terrain. My arguement is that the spell, as an opposed duel, counts as an attack and is the source of the damage, so both flips would apply. Maybe one of us is wrong? Maybe we both are? Does anyone have an answer?
  11. Quick question on hazardous terrain. The FAQ says: 31) If two or more pieces of hazardous terrain overlap, and a model enters it, would the model suffer more than one damage flip? For example, if Jaakuna Ubume’s aura overlaps with a physical piece of hazardous terrain? A: No. The model would only suffer a single damage flip. Kaeris places two 50mm markers that count as hazardous terrain, touching each other. Do you take two tests if you touch both markers in a single move/push? We've been assuming that you do, but the FAQ about overlapping markers makes me think maybe you don't?
  12. I will attempt to explain my question as succinctly as possible, if you would like more clarification or reasoning behind my current interpretation, please ask. Zipp's ability "up we go" is worded: "Place the target anywhere within 5" of its current position, not in terrain". Originally I did not think this was confusing, until discussing Enclosed terrain features. Enclosed features specifically reference things being inside of them. What I would like to know, is the "IN" in Zipp's ability, referencing this, so that you cannot put someone inside of enclosed terrain (which would be incredibly unfair, and I completely agree with). OR do they mean "ON OR IN" as in, he cannot place you on top of or inside of any terrain feature. As I read it, it appears to function that he can place models "ON" terrain (or on top of terrain, as it were, such as moving a friendly model onto a roof), but he cannot place models "INSIDE" of terrain features. (this also fits the flavor of him carrying and dropping you, he wouldn't drop someone on the ground floor of a 3 story building, you'd get dropped on the roof, it's also far too friendly for a crazy gremlin pirate to care what he drops you on top of) I believe my RAW interpretation to be correct, but I really would like to make sure, as it is confusing. I am not interested in Rules as intended Interpretations, I have already decided to err on the side of caution with this, but would like some kind of official ruling one way or another, and was unsure where else to ask this.
  13. I've been reading a few bat reps lately and seeing images from tables at other stores around the world. I've never thought our tables were empty but they've always been fairly flat. Houses, walls, forests, impassable rock formations. Locals have stated this is due to the rules for vantage points and attacking from heights being a bit troublesome and giving an edge to crews with snipers (katanaka, trappers, etc). It might just be a lack of accessible terrain but how do you tackle towers, rooftops and hills? Fair, unfair?
  14. Hello guys, can someone explain briefly how terrain levels vs CC engagement works? If we have two models where one is standing on the terrain and the other right beneath and: 1. terrain is 2" and model beneath has HT2 and 3" engagement. 2. terrain is 2" and model beneath has HT3 and 1" engagement. In which situation model can attack the one standing on top and how far can it be placed from the edge?
  15. If a marker has a terrain feature like impassable or blocking, is the marker considered to be terrain? Some markers are listed as being terrain, such as the Shard Markers created by the Carrion Emissary, but others such as the Stash Markers in Guard the Stash, have terrain features but aren't listed as being terrain. This is important for abilities like Seamus' Back Alley which states that he must be placed within 1" of blocking terrain. There are also several placement abilities that say that a marker or model can't be placed in or touching terrain.
  16. First post here, so greetings to all. I decided to make a post, well several, as I am starting my new table. While I do like the idea of a city, I wanted something different. Last month had me thinking about various themes I could do, but the one I like the most was an underground theme. So it is going to be a cave table, with different takes on the terrain types we have for Malifaux. First o, I have been into war gaming for ages and I love doing terrain. One thing I stopped doing over the years is the terrain base, aka the table, out of polystyrene. This has several reasons: - First of, as you move the models around, you will in the long term damage the base and I find it annoying to do repairs. Of course there are ways around this, but for me, the mat is the better solution. - Second, the storage is more annoying, as it is big, and you have to pay attention to the things on the terrain. For me again the mats is a better solution. - The third reason is, when you do one out of polystyrene you can do a lot with the ground, which then tends to look cooler and more realistic, but you lose a lot of modular options you have with the flat table and the terrain pieces to place on it. Granted you get less depth, but it is less fragile and easier to store in my opinion. Finding a cave mat was not easy and I wanted a grey stone one, as I find it better in terms of contrast. I did not find any that suited me, because I wanted a mousepad style of mat, so I had to settle for another colour. I ended up buying this one: http://www.urbanmatz.com/p/220/desert-3x3 The tone works for a cave I just had to change my colours. I plan to do the following terrains pieces A lot of blocking terrain - rock formations 3x forest - mushroom forest scatter terrain A - boxes scatter terrain B - mining carts & tracks dangerous terrain - lava I will try to make terrain for 2 mats, so we can have more games at the same times. And as a warning, I work sloly at times, so sometimes updates will take time. Thanks alot for reading and commenting
  17. I started painting some mdf terrain and quickly realized how long it was going to take and how much crap it was going to look like. lol. So I found a better solution. Using sticker labels and creating my own textures. Here is the process and result. 1. scan mdf terrain. 2. import into GIMP (linux version of photoshop) 3. Resize IMAGE to 8.5 x 11 with 300 dpi 4. Resize layer to 8.5 x 11 5. Crop layer to whatever current mdf you are working on. 6. Measure in real measurement, the size of the mdf, length x width. Then ensure that the layer is the same exact size in GIMP. Sometimes it is not. 7. Download textures and start overlaying. 8. Print out on Avery full label sheets. 9. Apply to mdf (start with interior, cut around all edges). If you want window glazing, it is better to put it on the bare mdf first, then apply label over it to hold it. I used plastic card sleeve protectors on the Tavington place and it turned out great. 10. Apply exterior, do not cut the sides, only trim down to maximum width. 11. Use pastels to shade the white edges and add more grunge to the texture. 12. Apply railroad flock, various HOpe all that makes sense. I'll have more pics of the others soon and of everything all put together. The car is a 1:43 Blues Brothers The gas pumps, AC unit, fence, and streets are from World Works Games various paper terrain (mainly Streets of Legend). I will probably use left over mdf pieces in the future to give the signs a 3d effect instead of just on the labels. I really think some old western buildings would look amazing with this treatment. This is part of a bigger Zombie Apocalypse table I've been working on and that's why I've been away. I see I missed the Iron Painter this year - I can't find the gallery to post comments on everyone's work though, anyone got a link?
  18. Sooooo the other day I was working on a tower made from Hirst blocks I've been casting, and I really thought it needed something extra to spruce it up. And what could be better in castle ruins than stained glass windows? After a little bit of trial, error, and creativity, I came up with a method that works pretty darn well and is very much like frosted glass. Both sides are reflective like glass and let plenty of light shine through. However, the base is not completely transparent, in fact I could only use this method for stained glass with a frosted appearance (in my opinion) or with a lot of light colored space. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for a method that would yield a more transparent result?
  19. At the momment, my terrain collection is very limited and I can only use it for a couple scenarios so far this has not been much of a problem but is starting to get a bit boring. I would like to know what terrain you would recommend purchasing.
  20. Noob question. The Waldgeist's 0 action, Germinate, summons up two 50mm tree markers that are - ht5, severe, soft cover terrain. Lilith, when using Beckon Malifaux, can use her 0 to summon up two 50mm illusionary forest markers that are - ht4, dense, severe, soft cover terrain. In the example below, if I understand this correctly (and I set this up so that NEITHER Lilith, nor the Waldgeist are actually touching their markers, thus they are 'outside' of their respective forests) the Guild Guard opposite Lilith's Illusionary Forest CANNOT draw line of sight to her because she's on the opposite side of dense terrain. However, the Guild Guard opposite the Waldgeist can draw line of sight to it because the germinate markers are NOT dense, thus the only benefit at that point is the soft cover trait (as he's still within 1"). Is that correct?
  21. Hello, wyrdfolk! So a rules question came up during my first game that we were unable to figure out at the scene. Can models with the Incorporeal ability end a move/push inside of Impassable Terrain? If no, what happens if an Incorporeal model is pushed into an Impassable piece of Terrain and the travel distance indicated on the rule that caused the push is insufficient to bring the Incorporeal model all the way through? I asked this question in a Malifaux facebook group and recieved several "No, they can not" and "That would be unreasonable" but nobody was willing to present any evidence to back up their claims so instead I once again delved back into the rulebook and did some digging myself and believe that I may have found the answer. I'll lead by compiling a list of the relevant sources I've been looking at: "Pushes...The pushed model cannot pass through impassable objects (such as other models, or walls) or climb. If a pushed model comes into contact with an object that is impassible, the pushed model stops in base contact with the object." -pg.46 small rulebook. "Impassable - Models cannot enter impassable areas of terrain, which includes moving through the walls of a building or into other solid objects." -pg. 74 small rulebook. "Incorporeal: This model ignores, and is ignored by, other models and terrain during any movement or push..."-Lady Ligeia My current theory, based on the wording of the rules for Impassable Terrain and Incorporeal, is that Incorporeal models may indeed end their move/push inside of Impassable Terrain. This is because the only part of moving into impassable terrain that is usually prohibited is entry and that occurs during the models move/push - during which Incorporeal models ignore terrain. Is there some nuance of the language that I have not comprehended or something that I have just simply missed? If I am wrong, please prove me wrong, because I too of course realize that, depending on the setup of your terrain, having a bunch of models running around in places where they cannot physically be placed can be a total gameplay nightmare.
  22. How vertical are games of Malifaux? Do games mostly take place on the same level, or should terrain allow figures to climb up on buildings of various heights, fight on catwalks, etc.?
  23. In June of 2015 I started a project to create a ruined city terrain layout (the detail of the project can be found here http://themostexcellentandawesomeforumever-wyrd.com/topic/109091-malifaux-city-board-build-diary/ ). That project took about a year, and I've been playing on the board for around 6 month now. Having logged some times on the boards I've come to realize several deficiencies: 1. These boards heavily favor crews with lots of SH and ranged CA actions. The layouts sight lines that traverse the entire board, in two directions, and create kill zones. Scatter terrain mitigates this somewhat, but the amount of vantage point terrain on my board renders most of the scatter irrelevant. 2. The size of the roads severely limits terrain placement along the board edge if a road tile in on that edge. You basically on have 4" of clearance. 3. Creating additional boards to vary the layout is huge time sink because the current boards can not be cast in resin. They have numerous undercuts due to how the flagstone and cobblestone was built and attempting to mold the boards would result in torn molds or, even worse, damage the masters. I learned a lot in the build process, and have taken several classes about molding and casting since the boards were originally created. I've decided to re-build the boards, and eliminate the previously mentioned issues. The first thing I will be doing is reducing the individual board size from 12"x12" to 6"x6". That will allow more varied road layouts. Second I will be reducing the road width from 4" to 3". This, along with the reduced tile size, will limit areas of the board with large sight lines. Finally the boards will be be made from materials more tightly fitted to the MDF base, eliminating undercuts all together. By building the boards in this manner I will be able to cast the boards, and thus only need to create a few masters. So let get so some pics. First up are the renders of the new masters, along with a mock up of a possible layout versus the default layout of the old set. I've started working on a proof of concept sample. Instead of cardboard I will be using pink urethane foam to create individual flag stones. The foam will be cut in thin sheets using a foam cutting table with a rip guard. The strips will be cut to size and affixed to the MDF base. then They will then be textured by bashing them with a rock from my yard. The curb stones (which had the most undercuts on the old boards) will be cut to fit snugly in place. Finally everything will be sealed with watered down PVA (probably a 1:1 mix). The curb stones themselves will be very labor intensive but, as you will see, the effect will be worth it. Plus, I only need to create 5 masters, as opposed to 9 for the old set, then I can cast whatever else I need.
  24. Zipp's 'Up We Go!' attack action reads: Place the target anywhere within 5" of its current position, not in terrain. My understanding of the word 'place' is that you ignore intervening terrain and models. Is this correct? More importantly, can this attack be used to 'place' the target model on top of a building or is that considered 'in terrain'? Is the 5" range of this effect measured strictly from a bird's eye view or would any change in height be included in the 5" range? In my imagination, Zipp is just grabbing somebody, jetting up into the sky and either dropping the poor sap or speeding back to the ground to suplex them into the dirt. But I'm not sure if that accurately depicts how the action functions within the context of the rules. In any event, my goal would be to dump the target on top of a building, or a stash marker, or some other piece of terrain and then force them to sit there or take falling damage to get back into the fight.
