Is Reactivate a Talent? - Hoffman

TalonRaven

Question

I'm checking on the legality of this, because I think it's a pretty darn powerful combo...

C.Hoffman has a spell called (2) Overwrite Edict...

Activate target Construct after this model's activation ends. If the target Construct has activated previously this turn, it gains Reactivate. This model's Controller controls the target during this activation After this activation, the target cannot activate again this turn

... and an action called (0) Assimilate

This model gains one Talent or Spell possessed by target Construct within 6". Effects that reference a model by name cannot by assimilated
Now, consider the scenario where Hoffman casts Overwrite Edict on a Peacekeeper, who has already activated during that turn thus gaining the ability Reactivate.

According to Rules Manual, pg 34, Action Modifiers, Reactivate is one of the four Abilities that is collectively known as Action Modifiers. On pg 12, Abilities are defined as a Talent. Therefore, Reactivate is a Talent, and Hoffman can use (0) Assimilate to gain Reactivate, allowing him to go again during that turn. Well, not immediately after, but the point is that he gets to go again.

I searched on the forums, but this thread was inconclusive on the Hoffman Assimilating Reactivate, and I felt that the main issue relies on two things:

1) Is Reactivate a Talent?

2) If a Construct "gains" a Talent, does it count as "possessing" it for purposes of Assimilate?

In My Book it says:

Activate target Construct, after this model's activation ends, regardless of wether target hast activated or not this turn. This model's Controller controls the target during this activation. After this activation target cannot activate again this turn.

and I can find no errate changing it Oo

I think that is a case of Card vs Book. Card supersedes.

Slow will stay on a model until the next time it activates so it can stay from round to round if needed

This is something I screwed up for a while. Seemed like a great deal to Tap Power on the Mobile Toolbox after it activated and have it come back next turn without Slow. Turns out that was too good to be true.

Aaaand it's officially half a year now without an answer :P

That's a buzz kill. Still, saying that the ruling won't arrive until book 4 probably isn't too far off-base. I'd reckon that they won't release Lazbot until right around GenCon, :+fate or :-fate a month, just like with Ashes & Dust. He still has too many kinks to work out in the meantime. I do hope that they're not having any sculpting issues, like I'd heard was also the case with A&D. Then again, it was a three part model, as opposed to just another robot, no matter how impressive the (potential) stats for said robot may be.

This is a little OT, but perhaps this is a sign that a significant rewrite is in the works. I am a new gamer (about a year) and not hardly a miniatures rules expert. Malifaux is about the only game I play. Its a good system and seems to work fine 90% of the time. But there are some areas where the 'gears' just don't seem to mesh and could stand some tightening up.

That could be said of most games (even the big selling ones such as Games Workshop and Privateer Press games), but for Wyrd most kinks can be worked out by rewording a lot of sentences on cards and in the books. The Rules Manual helped a lot in sorting out some kinks, and 90% of problems are sorted out by 1 or 2 sentences having been missed in it.

Sadly, this ruling is in that 10% where the rules aren't as clear, and this has meant a long wait (admittedly 6 months is a very long time)
