  1. The police are notified if you make threats at school violence, killing the president, etc, via your facebook, twitter, or even text messages. Literally have four calls a week dealing with that. You don't have the freedom to text a friend privately anymore, let alone the freedom to say what you want in public without reprisal. And white knighting is not sexist, it's disgusting and creepy. It makes people come off like they want to skin the girl and wear her fask as a mask as they do a little kooky dance. Women who are gamers want to be treated as gamers, not women gamers. Equality is being treated the same as everyone else, regardless of any difference. If everyone just enforced treating women, LGBT people, handicapped, the same as we treat people of the same gender and race, it would not be a problem.
  2. So I figured I would hop in. Humanity in general is terrible, at our roots we are all selfish evil people. Nurture is attempting to civilize nature, and with certain people all the education and corrective actions can only take them so far. I've never seen someone get raped at a LGS or a con, but I am sure it happens. I've seen a ton of guys who creepily go all white night when a female gamer comes into the store (Hello m'lady, let me hold the door for you and pull out a chair for you, and is there anything I can get for you, would you like me to buy you water or some food from the food court, etc. etc. etc.) I've also seen the opposite where a clique of guys make snide remarks or talk trash a bit too loudly about said gamer as well. At my LGS we have a few players who are mentally handicapped, to be honest the same scumbag stuff happens to them if someone is not there to stop it. I live in a pretty racially inclusive area, so we have a large diversity factor, so I don't see a ton of racism, but I imagine if your LGS is in Oregon or Rhode Island when people of color come in they get treated like unicorns and or terrifying monsters. Changing the appearance or poses of miniatures is not going to make people stop being douche's to women. The only way to stop that would be to act as tough in person as people seem to do on the internet. See a guy harassing a woman playing? tell him to knock it off or get out. See a group of mouth breathers talking about what they would do to her in the corner while she is shopping? Call them out on it. embarrass them more then they already embarrass themselves with whatever chain wallet they are still wearing. (joking, but no seriously, stop wearing chain wallets) There are a ton of reasons people are the way they are, you won't change them, we can gentrify everything so that we play we flat tokens in appearance similar to checkers, and write missives so that rulesets can only refer to characters as Piece X or Piece 347. And if that's the direction you want to go, awesome, have it, write your own game. The other option is we treat bad gamers, men and women, like we treat cancer, and remove them from the body of the gaming community. Ban them from your events, forums, facebook pages. They will either adapt or move on to something else. Instead of trying to pass the responsibility on to the community at large or game companies, take the responsibility upon yourself and your group of friends / LGS. If you change it there, it will change nationally.
  3. I'd also be a bit further for a more detailed explanation of the new stricter non-negative moderation. Does this mean Wyrd is going to be emulating the games workshop forums of yesteryear where if you had an issue with model or rule and attempted to discuss it civilly it would be quashed because it was "detrimental" to the company. For instance. Avatar marcus is a terrible model. It could be one of the worst sculpts I've ever seen made, and as someone who frequents painting events and is a regular on on a certain paint judging website is no small statement, I've seen some bad models. Does the above post get me a warning? does it get locked and or deleted? What if I say I think the dreamer is too powerful in the current form. He was already pretty dominant as the best summoner in the game, and now we added an extra soulstone to his pool for why? Does the above post get me a warning? does it get locked and or deleted? Or are you more talking about when a post spirals down to "OMG, Wyrd is Amazeballs, your so stupid for disagreeing and thinking anything is wrong" and "Fanboy!, FANBOY! You suck, the rule sucks, this post sucks" Don't get me wrong, I totally think the kibash needs to be put on the latter. The former I think are good things for the community and forums. (well, maybe not the marcus thing, though in my defense the sculpts did get better after that. So post hoc, ergo propter hoc)
  4. The issue on the final game as I am aware is they wanted to have the game at the demo booth in the showroom. One board had a huge culverts with no ladders and giant buildings and such that completely would have hosed the levi player since the dreamer just ignores all of it. The other board was a cool raised train platform, but everything on the main level was basically open terrain, which hosed the dreamer player. They attempted to use the second board and add some terrain to it. but it was not considered enough. Most people I talked to said the terrain in the actual tournament hall was pretty spot on. not sure about pictures.
  5. They are going to be posting them on the wyrd announcement page. the TO just needed a few days to format it properly.
  6. I think I would honestly be fine with the model if her hand had cards floating from it or a dove launching or a jacket similar to her old one and the top hat. The goggles are what annoy me most about the artwork.
  7. But sure, why not. This is June Merlin, the first magician to perform the blamo box. This is Adelaide Herrmann. She performed for 35 years from 1870ish.
  8. It's not called the magician and her assistants.
  9. Except she was both? her crew is called the showgirls.
  10. I googled victorian showgirls, and while the results are varied, this is purportedly a Victorian era showgirl poster. Just for all the realists out there. Every other 1800's, early 1900's showgirl search that shows actual pictures are more glitzy and glam then these three.
  11. I'm still holding out hope the nightmare edition this year is Colette, and they leaked this picture to get me to shell out the extra cash for a version of her that is not so meh.
  12. You can tone down the flashy hooker look, but at least keep her a magician or a showgirl. She looks like generic steampunk explorer. and that's not what the fluff from m1, or rules, indicate she is.
  13. Well no one else's had. so why would hers? also, all of her rules are still either magician or showgirly. So why would they have not also changed. My real hope is that they put such a meh piece of artwork up for her so they can release a nightmare showgirl box. And I would gladly pay up to $200ish to avoid having to use the Colette based on that artwork.
  14. with goggles. Why does she have goggles? This is not as bad as avatar marcus, because its a nice sculpt. It's just bland.
  15. https://www.coolminiornot.com/shop/miniatures/micro-art-studio/microartstudio-discworld/discworld-the-lugagge.html Is where I got mine.
  16. A couple of off issue things I wanted to address from your post Lupercal. 1. We have answered why we feel they should. You disagree with those reasons, but they are still incredibly valid. Using your same argument, you don't know that they cannot, you do not know that it would not be profitable, nor do you know what their margins are. We are two sides of a coin. One side is making a request, the other side is calling us extremely entitled crybabies for doing so. (I've never called you a name, and I re-read the post and did not see where anyone called you a curse word fan boy. We are all wyrd fan boys. or we would not be on their forums. 2. The question posed was why do you care so much if we ask wyrd for the models? Do you think we are damaging the company making requests to wyrd? 3. I stated earlier the production issues are a bigger problem. however, your talking about its profitability, feasibility, as if you know for a fact that it is not. I'm not saying you are wrong, I am saying there is a chance you are wrong, wyrd has never said it would not make them money, they have never said they can't gate off the mold. But again, if that's the case, wyrd can state that and I'm pretty sure we'd all just gladly accept it. you, nor I, are in the position to argue the feasibility of the request. This thread has become whether or not as players we have the right to make it. Which, being that we spend money on the product, we most surely do. 4. For a tournament competitive malifaux army, using gaining grounds and 50 points, you really should have every model or close to every model in the faction. This way based on the schemes and strategy, as well as your opponents faction. you can build your crew to maximum effectiveness. A person with all the models will do better in a tournament then a person with a single crew. At least according to gaining grounds. So yes, Warmachine and Malifaux are probably similar in cost for competitive play. Also, you can play starter box games in warmachine. its called mangled metal. The entry cost is $50. so about the same as a crew box. 5. We are not condemning their policy, we are questioning it. Also, your talking like we are adding 400 Skus. At this point it's Barbaros, Hannah, Vasilia, The Firestarter, Captain Dashel. So five models, I guess that's a bunch. I may be missing some where the old starter boxes do not have the new henchmen, and if so feel free to point out how wrong I am. (I do not think totem's should be made separately. as stated before they can be used with one person. Henchmen can be used with everyone 6. As you said, its laughable to think you know for sure its not a simple process. You do not know. neither do we. Your using the same assumptive logic that we are. 7. I'm glad we are fairly entitle whiners. But it is a problem that exists. It might not be a problem for you, but it is for us, otherwise this thread would not continue to resurface by different people. Your situation is not the only one out there. We don't discount yours, don't discount ours. 8. New players very well may need a separate barbaros. That's a false argument. There very well are neverborn players who have no interest in Lilith or Terror Tots, but want barbaros for their pandora crew, or zoraida crew. etc. etc. You 9. How do you know how successful wyrd is or is not. They are successful enough to put out 400 board games and eventually a roleplaying game, they were successful enough to put out a brand new second edition. You don't know their financials. Nor do I. 10. None of us are attacking wyrd. So I don't know why you feel the need to defend them. Hopefully that gave you the responses to your points that you desired.
  17. I will put in my vote for Bushido Wraith. Their sculpts are all fantastic. I don't think I've ever had an issue with one.
  18. I guess they should make no rare 1 models then. because eventually people will buy them and demand will sharply taper? Also, Barbaros has almost no synergy with Lilith. There is nothing he offers that buffs or requires Nephilim. Nekima, Snow Storm, etc are all far more limited to their crews / casters then Barbaros (he's really really good with Pandora, he is super good at keeping her totem alive, and she really likes her totem to be alive) I'm out of the argument at this point guys. I agree with you on totems, IE the steam trunk for Von Schill. only he can use it. I disagree with you on henchmen, they can lead crews and work for any other faction master. There is no difference between them and any other rare 1, they should get their own box. This argument will be brought up by new or the same people every time it happens. (Hannah if she is in his box might be a good example, because not only is she a henchmen, she is a mercenary who is fantastic with a wide variety of crews) Your argument boils down to Wyrd is serving some, maybe even most of their players. My argument boils down to you can serve all of them and make profit while doing so. We agree to disagree.
  19. Here's the flaw in your business model "You need new product." Customer's don't need anything. We want it, but we don't need it. So we don't buy the new product, and we either supplement with other companies product (which is definitely not what wyrd wants) or we convert existing models (which they probably don't really care about.)
  20. "Can you throw the guys who got you here a bone" does not equal "Hey, Jerk Bags, Make this model now or we're going to come burn down your plant" It's a request, and a rather polite one at that. Supported by facts (the fact that first edition players did in fact make a second edition possible. I, like so many of you, own every metal model wyrd made (and most plastics)) Wyrd does not owe us anything, but if they consistently ignore us (which they don't, as a company they are very good at listening to feedback and making changes. I'm looking at you mechanical rider), we won't keep buying their product, and listening and taking care of your customers is the way to keep them, because much like wyrd and us. We don't owe them anything.
  21. That's the opposite of how business works. Especially a miniature gaming company. you don't intentionally screw over your existing customer base. I'm pretty sure all of us are dealing with it. some people are buying the starter, some people are doing conversions, some people are using proxies. None of that prohibits us from coming onto the wyrd forums and bringing it to the staff's attention as an issue to their existing customers. They may never do anything about it. but the day we are not allowed to ask and or complain about it is the day I stop buying their product.
  22. I totally feel that pain. for the longest time I was awful at inventory control. I actually had to lose my store. get a job managing a big box retailer, then re-open my store with my new found knowledge to run a successful business. Sku's are not an issue, a gaming store does not need to have all of the product in the store to be profitable. People will order stuff from your store if you give them a reason to. (A safe, well-lit, well maintained, terrain and table full environment that has a lot of different people for them to play against.) People buy from the LGS because they like going to the LGS, they do not buy from an LGS because they are impulse purchasers. Impulse business is probably less then 5% of my income.
  23. From a store perspective I totally don't buy that. You know what pisses me off about wyrd? Pretty much Jan - on from this year. Stuff would come up in the release preview, customers would pre-order and pay for it, and stuff is still not here. I know it's taboo to mention other game companies. But there is another company out there with game in its name. I carry that companies extended line (Core Product + basically, New releases for a period, but they are pretty good about cycling those off at the right time). Everything else I order as requested. I am not required to have every sku they sell. Nor am I required to do that for Wyrd. I actually have a great strategy for Wyrd when stuff is coming out. I keep 1 crew box, 1 fate deck, 1 mini and big book, and 1 arsenal deck for every faction stocked at all times. When something like say teddy comes out I order 4 + pre-orders. Then when those four sell I don't order any more unless someone requests it. I've yet to be burned. That's my method for most things (Some samurai game that is very similar, a game that has monstrous and steampunk elements). If someone does not know how to maintain their inventory, or get's too hot on a game, that is their fault. Not Wyrds. All that being said, Not selling barbaros as a single model does me no favors. I have a bunch of Mk1 players who would buy him was he out. I would order it for them, and my normal pack of 4, and then I would not worry about it again unless someone asked. If Wyrd want's to do me a favor they will keep to release dates or not list release dates. I am THRILLED that the gencon stuff is not listed yet, because If I take a bunch of orders before I head out there and end up not seeing those models there, my guys are going to be dissapointed and pushed towards other companies. Which would upset me because I love Malifaux. Malifaux is such a fantastic game to be a store owner for. The tournaments are quick and easy to run, I can have them done on sunday's so I don't need to worry about losing my saturdays which are usually reserved for games that take significantly longer. They lend themselves to slow-grow, campaign, and league play, all things which keep bodies in the store and keep people spending money. Plus the models (Old avatar marcus excluded, he was the worst thing I've ever seen put to metal) are amazing, and create a Pokemon like effect where when someone buys McMourning, all of a sudden he wants Nicodem, and Seamus, and Kirai, and Molly, and so on. But guess what, now there are multi faction models, so he buys Tara, and since he has her he gets Von Schill, Viks, etc. etc etc. Oh, and by the way, the new edition fixed the glaring issues the game had before. I've had some very good players actively trying to break 2.0 and they just cannot do it. Bravo to all the Wyrd staff, Justin, the play testers, and everyone on these forums for doing such a good job of paying attention to minutia this time around.
  24. assuming he is a henchmen. he might be an enforcer. I'm at work.
