  1. I think a lot of the perspective on this will be influenced by faction. Ressers have a million tools against Leveticus so he can be countered, but that hardly helps if you're playing a faction with fewer tools. FWIW, one of the world cup finalists argues Reva is the second best Resser master, not Kirai 😜
  2. Pandora's poltergeist becomes even more powerful, but I like it!
  3. Some people tech Mourners in to combat Ruthless in Jack Daw, but I don't know about it. On paper, Mourners seem like they need to be paired with Blasphemous Ritual to be worth their stones, and I'm not sure where you'd put it in a Daw crew (potentially on a Hanged I suppose, as GST is good there and they probably have a bonus action to spare turn 1?) The minus flip for Scarlet Temptation is also potentially very useful for landing your upgrade actions. Tormented arguably have the best suite of willpower duels in the faction - even Lady Ligeia is going to be pretty scary if she is landing her wp attacks. At 7 stones it is a bit steep, of course, as many are dubious that they're even worth 6. Haven't tested it or played against it myself, but know some people have toyed with it.
  4. True, I certainly love Killer Instinct for the Deadly Pursuit upgrade! And Neverborn upgrades are fantastic on minions as well. I'll have to experiment more
  5. One issue I always have which is probably just a stupid mental obstacle is I don't like upgrading cheap models. A rabble riser for instance is appealing specifically because it is cheap. A rabble riser for 6 stones can do some useful stuff. But paying 8 stones, suddenly I'm in the realm of having to ask if that rabble riser is really so useful as to be one stone less than Archie? Or are two shieldbearers with GST really worth as much as Bete + shieldbearer? Etc. I probably just need to try it out more xD
  6. I think part of the issue is that for most keywords, once you get down to really optimising, lots of stuff doesn't make the cut. Which isn't to say that you're wrong. I don't know much about Tormented. Just observing that this is a trend in Malifaux more widely I think - most models are viable, but not even close to optimal. So no surprise that it is an issue for Tormented!
  7. Between Leave Your Mark and Claim Jump, over 2/3 of pools will have a centre scheme!
  8. I find the same thing with Archie - he CAN get by without GST, but nothing like alpha striking turn 1, taking a hit or two turn two before he runs away, and then coming back in. In his case he's got the extra ~2 health a turn from his fading, but I guess for valedictorian with her tech the principle is the same.
  9. Excel is way stronger, but the calculator is perfect for quick and dirty calculations. Definitely my first pit stop for any deck-related calculations!
  10. Crooligans can only teleport to Forgotten non-minions (Molly, Machine, Philip, Archie, Rogue). But worth a shot for the breakthrough style stuff, since the zombies can activate. The answer to most things is "test it out!" So let us know how it goes Molly doesn't generally need soulstones for much else, so one advantage of using Asura with Molly is you should be able to use soulstones for her.
  11. Awesome! I look forward to reading through this, looks really good
  12. Some general thoughts about 35 stone games, a lot of which is theory: Summoning crews are wayyyyy stronger. Kirai is probably the best possible Resser master (to the point that it feels like it breaks the spirit of 35 stone games, and I'd not take her in a 35 stone game). Card-hungry crews are stronger, as there's not as many models to split your cards over. Synergy-oriented crews can be weaker if they need too many specific models (like Reva). Stand-alone models become stronger Models that can kill a single model (like Seamus) are stronger. Models that are hard to kill are stronger. Things that punish card-hungry crews are weaker (Terrifying, Execute, etc). And probably lots of other things! I'd start with Seamus probably, but maybe that's just because I'm getting prepped to play him in 50 stones xD For casual games, I reckon most masters would be fine, but maybe avoid Jack Daw - his combination of slow and reliance on hand punishment may not be great.
  13. She seems very bad with Molly, as Forgotten has few built in corpse synergies. Asura can summon up to four mindless zombies a turn, which is pretty crazy corpse generation. Her command zombie as a bonus action is powerful in theory, but you need a good target. The first thing I'd try Asura with is either McMourning for flesh constructs, or Reva, or Reva with McMourning.
  14. Unfortunately Bete only buries when enemies attack her. You need to have her attack an ally with a mask trigger to bury her.
  15. xD this is epic. Although because of your initiative flip, I don't think you'll be able to do it that way? Now if the initiative flip is lucky enough to be the right card... xD
  16. Oh, and one more thing - Euripedes can also use The Old Ways to flip it from the discard pile, so that's another avenue for guaranteeing it. Just have to be careful about timing your activation!
  17. Another thing to note though is when you see a suit requirement like that on a master/henchman, generally the idea is you use a stone for it. You have a 99.7% chance of having a stat high enough for it, so then the stone just gives you the suit.
  18. The hypergeometric calculator is perfect for this: https://stattrek.com/online-calculator/hypergeometric.aspx Population size: 54 (for 54 cards in the deck) Number of success in population: 8 (for 8 cards you're after) Sample size: 6 (for six cards in hand) Number of successes in sample: 1 (you only need one card meeting your requirements). Hit calculate, and you can see at the bottom that you have a 63.7% chance of having at least one card that meets these requirements. If you include the red joker, it goes up to 68.4%.
  19. Oh, and the extra zombie action definitely has some potential as well. Getting flesh constructs an extra focus per turn for example could be very useful for projectile vomit (though they have access to other focus engines, the nurses).
  20. Great thing about Malifaux is basically all models are at least viable for casual play! Mindless zombies able to interact is very strong, and being able to summon mindless zombies on any table edge is also pretty nuts. She will be a bit resource heavy, but seems like she will do some work. Pair her with corpse synergies and you should get some interesting results (bete noire, bone piles, Seamus, Reva, blasphemous ritual, etc). Also Decay is a very strong attack. So overall an interesting model! Test her out, see how she goes, and report back!
  21. Oh, right. It is the line about the Tormented FAQ that had me wondering too, but nevermind xD
  22. Yeah, totally. But also if you flip 6 cards a turn, you have about a 45% chance to flip the Black Joker at least once per game. So there is cognitive bias (remembering the event as more frequent than it is), but also just the event is way more likely than people think it is. If you asked most people to bet on a percentage chance of say a rabble riser black jokering during a game, I don't think they'd pick that high a number xD
  23. Oh, me too! I'm in Christchurch and running a tournament in November. Let me know if you want more details and I'll PM you :). We also have people in Chch who could probably help assemble, but that probably isn't helpful (unless you mail back and forth). Another option is purchasing second hand - a lot of the FB groups sell assembled models.
  24. It is also how many cards you flip. Reva might flip 10+ cards in a single activation. That's about a 20% chance to hit a Black Joker I believe.
