  1. Yay. They added baby teddies. And there I thought I wasn't getting anything this year since I'm doing Neverborn M3E and already had recently bought all the things of interest. Baby teddies... yeah!
  2. Ok, Sounds reasonable. So basically I can't play these models together until we get a FAQ 😢😑
  3. I have a question about an interaction between Misery (oh god... that ability again....) and Vasalia's: Tangled Threads: During the Start Phase, every enemy model within 2 of a friendly Puppet gains Staggered. So Misery reads : Misery: Once per Activation. After an enemy model within a6 gains Stunned or a Condition listed in this model’s Opportunist Ability, this model may either move it up to 2" or have it suffer 1 damage. Is the "once per activation" a requirement for the aura to function, or a restriction to it? In other words.... can 1 misery aura apply several times (to several opposing models that just gained staggered in the start phase due to being within 2" of puppets), or can it not apply at all? Why? Thanks.
  4. Oh wow.... I didn't realize that. I guess I just assumed it worked like in M2E.... and noone has corrected me/everyone else seems to do the same. Do you have a link to some post clarifying this? I guess Hans isn't gonna make the cut anymore....
  5. Guess it's really all a matter of point of view. While I agree that most of the Gremlins really aren't evil (also they are hilarious), the OP lists Toni and Mei Fang as good in Arcanists, and they are 2 of the most wretched and despicable characters in the whole story as far as I'm concerned. I do feel bad for some of the tragic characters even though they are clearly evil (Kirai, Molly, Asami, collodi....) except maybe Zoraida who could be considered only tragic.
  6. Ehm.... not sure if you read what I actually said. But reading Pandora's ability, it says you "may either push 2" or inflict 1 damage". So you may chose between either one of these 2 actions when the Ability is triggered.... but nothing suggests that you may choose to trigger the ability or not. I agree that the wording seems ambiguous depending on how you want to read it, and Wyrd needs to clarify the rule's intention for that sake. (Is there an official channel to get questions answered?) But if they wanted to give you a choice the wording could easily have been written clearly as "this model may choose to trigger it's Misery ability to either move it 2" or have it suffer 1 damage" - since it's a use once only ability that would make sense. As it is now, I read the Misery ability as once it is triggered (and you don't get a choice) you do get to chose one of the following two things : push the model 2" and have it suffer 1 damage.
  7. Sorry, but Misery's "move it up 2" or have it suffer 1 damage" refers to the opponents model being stunned, right? So the 2 sorrows couldn't move themselves 2". Or am I missing something here? Also for the question of whether or not you can stagger the effects of overlapping misery Auras generated as a model is affected by several instances of one or another condition depends entirely on a player having to use a once per activation ability (or really, any ability) whenever possible, or if he can chose not to do so. Looking at other cards it seems like abilities are always in effect, and while some abilities say that a model may do this or that or nothing at all, Misery's may seems to apply to the choice of 1dmg/2" push only. So if a model within overlapping auras gains stunned, it seems to me all Misery auras would trigger. However, if a model for example gained focus/burning, etc..., this might trigger only Pandora's aura, if it then gained slow from another action, Kade's aura may be triggered, and if the model was then stunned, a Sorrow's aura could trigger, for a total of 3 dmg as long as the conditions were applied at different timings. There are no clues that would lead us to believe that models could choose not to use their armor, hard to wound, hard to kill or incorpreal abilities either as far as I know.
  8. I mostly agree. Model bloat and everyone can do everything and more and more cross hiring... I understand why Wyrd does it. You need to sell new models. You want to give people what they want by fixing the "issues" in their factions that they complain about. But it feels like identities are lost... I especially dislike the cross faction hiring. Also balance becomes harder with more models. If I just want to play something fun, paint cool models and hang out with buddies I'll play warhammer... because everyone plays it and it's easier to get the social part of playing a game. I love the Malifaux feel, fluff and models (maybe not their assembly). But it had something else... an interesting competitive feel. I'm new... and love GG18, but since wave 5 came out I am feeling like both of those things are weakened... the game "feel" is getting diluted in all the cross hiring and plucking faction weaknesses, and the competitiveness... while the game balance might actually be better at the moment... at least you can argue for it... you can feel that there are too many things interacting. Some models just need to be sidelined because you can't keep up with the balance of such a large pool. And balance is not the only thing that makes competition interesting... differences between factions... strengths and weaknesses need to be there to give us unique challenges. If balance was the goal we'd all play chess. Anyway... not sure how to fix this. But I think we feel similarly about the state of the game. I'd be interested in discussing possible solutions so that the game remains popular and keeps growing and attracting people. And I want us all to have as much fun as possible playing with as many people as possible.
  9. I'd go with this option. Death marshals only see my lists when I want to do a double bomb (burry The void beast and Bishop for example for a turn 1 alpha strike), otherwise they are quite useless. I'd go with the first option, the list will allow you to learn the game and is quite flexible vs most things. Also it makes it very easy to expand further.
  10. That's pretty much the conclusion I've come to. Viks are made for this. You hurt them before they hurt you, and you need to figure out how you'll do it sure... but if you don't get the first hit you're just screwing yourself and not playing into their strengths.... why not play another master? But if you do and you do it right, the game can be over very fast.
  11. You're just making me feel worse. It sounds like things used to be reasonable (or at least they used to work the way I personally think is reasonable), and Wyrd decided to come up with something worse.
  12. There would also be a difference when models are standing on Ht1 terrain which currently does nothing and when 1 model stands on Ht2 terrain and another on Ht6 terrain... where currently both are considered to be on a vantage point. Also I hate drawing diagonal lines of sight. It's very sibjective. Finally I forgot to mention in my first post.... Attacking a model on higher ground also needs cleaning up. reach should be something like model height + engagement - height difference in my opinion. Not the arbitrary cut off at Ht 2 we have atm.
  13. I play the emissary and give blood momento before burying her with a void wretch. Costs a lot of points, but it's just so amazing. And I like to a a void wretch most of the time anyway and I love the emissary for a bunch of reasons. But Johan with Wk4 in a faction with no pushes was just good. Not game breaking. And trapper again... was good, but not 3 changeling game breaking. And as I said. When I think about other factions.... there are all these models I'd like to put in a list and it's a tough decision. When I play outcasts it's always the same models... not because they are broken. But because everything else is so useless. I was listening to poscasts talking about how Hayreddin or Baby Kade for 6SS are maybe going to see a little play here and there.... and I'm just looking at my 6SS Ronin (which I sometimes take and consider above the curve for Outcasts)... Or 8SS Woku Raiders...
  14. ... O_O I was originally calling the "hiding rule" "being in the shadow" of a terrain piece.... but then I thought hiding was more clear.... what sorcery is this? I indeed have never read M1E rules. Was there any difference with what I came up with? Why did they change it? Seems pretty clear/straight forward to me? What were the general issues/complaints?
  15. Oh yeah.... I definitely do that too. But when I tell them : so I'm gonna bury her and move the scion up and my threat range turn 1 is 39.2 inches from where scion is deployed and then she chain activates into 4 attacks, has min 5 dmg, 7Ml, + flips ta hit and dmg, ignores hard to wound, hard to kill, armor and incorporeal and can whirlwind... they still don't know what to do about it. I think one of the issues is that they were supposed to be the merc faction. In order to make sure nothing is over powered and broken with all the shit other factions have you have to make super generic, under-powered bland models. Just look at Johan and Trapper. They weren't an issue in Outcasts really... just pretty decent models. Now they got nerfed because of other factions. I want them to take the mercenary word out of 90% of our models and let us have some more good/interesting stuff.
  16. Hello, as the title says this is not a question but a proposition for the improved elevation rules that Malifaux needs. I've thought of many variants and can't decide which would work best so I hope that we can have a discussion here to help figure out a better alternative solution solution. To start the discussion I'll present the current idea I have in mind (which came after a few other iterations that I had to eliminate as I found loopholes). My personal guidelines when I thought about elevation rules (let me know if you disagree) : - No true line of sight like in 40k. I don't want stupid arguments about model posing, basing, conversions, alternative models, etc... A model should be visualized as occupying a cylinder, sized based on the model's base size and height. - No vertical diagonal lines. I hate infinity... shooting lasers and trying to determine if models can see each other or not sucks. - So determining line of sight should make sense/be intuitive. Be clear cut and easy to determine. - If a model A can see model B. Model B can also see model A. English is not my first language so I don't know how to express rules clearly... so I'll use pictures as examples. Base ideas: - A model's height for determining line of sight is it's height + the height of the terrain piece it's standing on. - A model can not see over blocking terrain of height equal too or higher than itself. - Models can "see over" blocking terrain of less height than themselves. (we'll get to an example showcasing what this means) - Models ignore ledges for line of sight if they are withing their Ht of a ledge. - Models can "hide" behind blocking terrain taller than their height. (we'll get to an example showcasing what this means) - Th taller model determines reciprocal line of sight (with my current proposition I haven't found loopholes where one model sees the other and the other one doesn't see it, but that's why I had to scrap most of my previous ideas. But also this simplifies the rules for seeing "up" onto higher buildings, etc... you can always use the rules for the model on top of the elevation, and if it sees the lower model, then the lower model sees the model on top). The concept of seeing over terrain : this just means you can ignore the terrain for line of sight, unless the "hiding" rules below apply. The concept of hiding : A model can still hide from models on an elevated position that ignore shorter terrain, if that terrain is taller than the model. How close the model has to be to the terrain is determined by relative size. A model of Htx can hide behind Hty terrain if it is within y-x inches of it. So a Ht 2 model can hide from models on higher elevation behind a Ht5 building as long as it stays withing 3 inches of that building. A Ht 3 model would have to stay within 2 inches, a Ht1 model, within 4 inches. Okay... actually I think that makes it pretty clear already (wow what an awesome and simple concept). But maybe that's just because it's clear in my mind and I make a shitty teacher. Let me know if more examples are needed. I thing this solution makes for clear rules for elevation and determining line of sight for snipers, etc... Makes different height terrain meaningful, etc... Cover still is only valid withing 1 inch of cover. Distances are measured from the top - down view, not diagonally. If you are base to base with a building you can't place a frigging scheme marker 5 inches higher on top of the building, or remove it. But if you are an inch away from it from the top-down view, you are withing 1 inch of it for schemes, etc... And as we are on the task of clarifying line of sight... let's clarify cover. As I understand it RAW... NO! No, you're not!!!! Hmmm.... ok. I feel like I'm forgetting something. But please tell me what you think of these elevation rules, how could they be expressed clearly? What would you change? What are your ideas? I want to play on cool boards but elevation rules make it hard. Please help.
  17. I'm in the same boat than you. I was hesitating between Neverborn where I liked several masters and Outcasts where I really really really liked Viks. Now I also have Levi, Misaki and Tara. I play Tara from time to time, not really because I love her, but because I don't want to crush my opponent terribly. My issue is that nobody really seems to be able to deal with the Viks the way they are meant to be played and it is a NPE for them (and for me in some ways). I played a "gimped" Vik list a few time experimenting with different play styles... but it's just that. A purposely gimped list even if on paper it sounds ok. I don't want to play that way either. I feel bad for choosing outcasts.... even though I love the Viks, it seems I can't play them. I think this is partially because of my opponents (not the most competitive Malifaux group around here) as personally I don't think they are too powerful, and if I had to play against them I could beat them quite easily. But as it stands I own most models of the faction but feel like most are really bad... which again makes me not want to play other masters. I look at other factions with so many more interesting competitive models and I'm a little bummed honestly... WTF Wyrd? I'd also like to start Hamelin because what a cool theme. I'd get the guilder store alternative model of course... But what's the point... I'd spend a couple of months painting only to never play him as it's another NPE for my opponents. Let me know if you find a cool alternative to playing Viks and I'll try it. But more likely I'll play less Malifaux... maybe someday I'll start a different faction, but for now I started buying and painting 40k models...
  18. I was wondering how your activation order looks turn 1. You say you get around the chain activation restriction, but you don't have any ways of chain activating blood? Also if you did, how do you get the fury buff on her? Do you put it on her and then bury her with a wretch? And only (maybe) use soaring dragon in later turns? What am I missing?
  19. I hope they do... If not... I don't care what they do to the upgrade... but don't fuck with the scion please.... I went into outcasts because of the Viks aesthetic... now I've branched out and I'm attached to this faction and my models... but I struggle to find good interesting/different ways to play my stuff. I feel like I'm pigeon holed into the few choices available to outcasts when others have much more varied interesting options. Don't take the scion away please... she is cool... Edit: also gg2018... who would want to bury their models at the end of their activation for half of the strats anyway???
  20. After listening to several podcasts talking about the issues with the soaring dragon upgrade I am just really worried they will break scion.... one of our few interesting models. On top of that the soaring dragon fear is completely unjustified in my opinion... every time they talk about it there clearly isn't a vik player in the group on any podcast.... almost all the things they seem to worry about don't work because of ability interactions, or timings or other issues.... but the perceived fear factor is there. So fine, if Wyrd wants to calm people change the upgrade.... it's pretty rubbish anyway as far as I am concerned.... but if they think a better solution is to errata the scion I'm fucking taking a break from this game... Am I the only one who is worried about this happening?
  21. Not the fasted loading time... But that's not an issue to me compared to the other stuff.
  22. Hey wyrdos, I've been busy in life recently, so if I just missed it and this is a dumb question feel free to tell me so. I'm really happy we have an official app and it's awesome that Wyrd gives us access to all cards for 10$. It will make updating cards easier and I think it's a great tool to bring in new players too. In the first day after the app came out I reported several bugs, and they were all addressed in the update a week later or so... that was awesome. However besides this hotfix there were at least a few other MAJOR issues that I really expected would get addressed in the following couple of weeks... I'm surprised that not only did this not happen, but I haven't seen discussion about it on a wyrd place, etc... So I'll just list what I can think off the top of my head as absolutely needing to be fixed... and hopefully start a discussion... where you tell me this is all being addressed and Wyrd is working on it... or if not... well... get that ball rolling (or maybe I'm crazy and you all disagree with me). ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO BE FIXED : - Encounter setup - generate an encounter and then import crews.... the beauty of Malifaux is that you build your crew based on the encounter. But there is no way in the app to do it. And if I go back to crew selection and build a crew, then go back to encounter... the start and schemes are changed. Give us a way to generate an encounter, then build a crew/modify an imported crew for it. That's how the game is played... that's the order in the rulebook! - Give us access to the cards when signed off wifi. Not all game stores have wifi.... I can't use my tablet with the app with no wifi. I know hwere are probably worries about pirating... but please... - There are issues with building crews still, I'm sure there are more... But I've noticed outcast Tara can fill up on void creatures if you stay in the +Add model selection, but if you go back to the crew overview and already have 4, it tells me I have to many void models and when going back to adding models, I can't select void wretches anymore. There also sometimes seems to be an issue when after deleting a model the app still thinks I have spent the SS and I can't add new models even though I just took a 12SS model out. - SS tracking in encounters has issues, in the top right corner for example it will display 6 SS (when I have 6 SS), when I click on it to try to take one off, it will open the large window jumping to 4SS without me doing anything. Also when leaving an encounter, even when saving, and coming back, the number of SS seams to randomly reset. which brings me to... - The frigging home icon is next to the player 2 icon... every game I exit the encounter 5 or 6 times because I hit it by mistake when trying to see my opponents crew.... (I'm actually a gorilla... big hands). Please ask me if I really want to leave the encounter when hitting the button.... so I can go back... and not waste 1 minute being forced to leave the encounter, reopening it and finally making it to the P2 tab. WOULD BE REALLY NICE TO HAVE : - A Classic card view option. Where I can see all the cards as they are normally printed... small icons that I can rorder... layout on the screen however I like and put upgrade cards next to models, etc... (with all the upgrade swapping going on), and just tap any card to see it full screen.... I know this might take some work... maybe that wasn't wyrd's ambition for the app.... but I'd pay another 10$ for that option without hesitation. What do you all think? Has this already been discussed? Where? Are there other issues I'm missing? Please read this Wyrd... I love you guys
  23. Viks are awesome, and their box isn't bad as far as starter boxes go. You use both viks, you will use the student (I play student or malifaux child based on my crew), and sometimes a Ronin (they are a much better minion than people give them credit for and they are becomming better in GG2018... maybe I'll even run 2). Then with the viks you absolutely want the scion of the void, and a couple of void wretches. Personally to me the emissary is a must too (and you can use the old vik avatar as legal proxy). And of course Sue... best model in outcasts. Also they are very competitive if you care about that sort of thing. Only downside with the Viks is the feel bad moment when you trample you opponents hopes and dreams on turn 1 and can see in their eyes that you have broken them as a human being... I'm joking... but only a little... :/
  24. what about hodgepodge emissary with hodgepodge conflux then? + to attack flips for minions within 4 aura... and he can give out nice little trinkets.
  25. Hello all. It's been a while. I've had few chances to play games these last couple months... didn't take pics on a couple of games... only took a few on a couple of others (turns out it's easy to forget to take pictures when a game gets tough and you have to think...). Here is a few pictures anyway... just fr eye candy. A game vs Tara and one vs Zipp : Otherwise I got a few games on Vassal in testing GG18... I'll probably make a separate post about that. So I'm still learning the game whenever I get a chance and having a blast. I hope to get another IRL game in tomorrow and will try to get pictures and a battle report to post from that. I figured that until then.... since the title of this thread says something about crew progression, I'd post some of my crew progression First... I have to apologize ...I aparently have no idea how to take pictures... I actually have a pretty good camera... but... yeah... I don't know what the 15million options do anyway... If anyone has an easy to follow guide to photography... especially for miniatures... that would be awesome. So here is what I have for now anyway... Family pic: Randoms (with some conversions to make the all female theme possible): Proof that the child is a girl... long hair! A&D: Desolation engne and abominations (and... abomination tokens... :p) Nothing beast and voidlings : Viks : Viks (trying to show pretty flower coats...) Alright... I'll try to get another battle report in this week. As you can see it'll feature the Viks as they are still my 1 and only master Oh, and we're having a little local tournament on the 11th, so I'm looking forward to that.
