  1. How about Hamelin. He operates like no other, demanding deep synergy from his crew in pushing the plague. Lucius is a very interesting chap with his ability to sink his actions into wherever they’re most needed on the board. I’m pretty intrigued by Collette and her crew being more interested in putting on a good show, over beating your brains in. And one of my personal favorites is Pandora with her disruptive depression, murder babies and Teddy bears. - I’ve been tempted by the ninjas as well, but the whole thunder faction is just so very trope-y and not very faux’y.
  2. ALERT : The Forum seems to have lost some of my pictures when updating. You’ll start seeing pretty colors on mid-page 2. I’ve been bitten hard by the Pokemon-itis bug, when it comes to ‘faux - after promising myself I only wanted a couple of select crews - and my collection just seems to grow rapidly as keywords get finished and new things catches my fancy. So without further ado, I bid you welcome to my collection, as I slowly try to complete it. First up is my ongoing project of undead pirates... Arrrh! LOST IMAGES - SORRY
  3. @74legion you’re writing as if a model should be impregnable from stats and abilities alone. While most wargames are designed so that offense always has the upper hand - otherwise, nothing would happen during those games. Speaking from my experience, it is very hard for opponents to take Pandora down. This involves positioning, getting her in tight with opponents and it involves Pandora and her crew doing their thing and draining opponents of resources - hand and activations. If you’re just plunking her down at 12” distance and waiting for opponents to shoot her, then sure she is going down, but if you drain their hand, disrupt their activation order and hand out Slow and Stunned like there is no tomorrow, then dora has nothing to fear, she might take a couple of hits, but a couple of hits makes no difference, if they aren’t lethal.
  4. @Maniacal_cackle I’m pretty confident that Wyrd doesn’t share a design philosophy with GW or MtG, and that their changes are towards making a better, balanced game, rather than hyping certain models. However those changes are inevitable, when models hit the table big style. Some will be spot on, some will be a little hit-or-miss, such is the nature of things. ‘faux has an aspect of ‘wallethammer’. You don’t play a fixed crew or a specific master, you play a faction, and in order to win you have the luxury of tailoring your crew to the circumstances. That luxury however demands an extensive collection. That’s a problem for me, who collect, not because of efficiency, but for models, themes and aestethics. My problem isn’t my wallet, but my subjective notion of cool - e.g. I’d never go into Nephilim as I dislike the models. But it is a choice, a conscious handicap, I’m making, just as it is choice, going into a hobby, you might not be able to afford. There is good reason however for Wyrd to concentrate on their ‘heavy users’ to change the game, avoid getting stuck in a rut. Its the heavy users who will introduce new players to the game, those who have the largest collections etc., and they need to be challenged. Casual players, like me, who only play once/twice a month then go to a tournament once in a while, just need to stay casual about it. We’re not losing because our models suck and rules change, we’re losing because we’re not playing, or investing ourselves enough in the hobby. Balancewise ‘faux is in a good place. And I for one is glad, that Wyrd takes an interest in this and is concerned with the state of the game. Some crews are more versatile/better than others, but all of them are interesting to play (dependent on taste) and all have a decent chance of winning. That’s all I’m asking for.
  5. Defenses cut? I’d say with her Mood Swings, Dark Thoughts ability and Terrifying 13, she’s pretty well defended. Putting IR on her was just an unnecessary bloat. I wouldn’t say, whether Samurai are gamebreaking, but paying 11 stone (that’s a rider or an Emissary) for an 8 wound minion do demand, that it can have some effect on the game, and it’s not as if its anywhere near unkillable - even if you need to send a melee beater to do so. The only upgrade I ever consider for Woe is Eldritch Might into condition heavy crews, such as McMourning and Kaeris. You’ll see, that the positives you were wishing for Pandora are in the nerfs to our opposition.
  6. I’ve got a bad collector bug with 9 crews of Ressurs, Neverborn and Guild. And I feel, its time for something new : Modelwise - and I always go by models first, its become a toss-up between arcanists (Ironsides and Colette) and Thunders (Yan Lo and Misaki). So it’s become a matter of playstyle, so my question to you is; what do you find rewarding about playing Misaki and Yan Lo?

  8. I’ve got the Neverborn masters, I find interesting model and playstyle-wise. - I’m more interested in opinions on playstyle regarding Misaki/Yan Lo and Ironsides/Colette. What you find rewarding in playing them? - EDIT: I’ve opened a couple of tonics in the faction subforums instead.
  9. Giant models are great for painters, but a bad choice for gamers. Just check out 40K, when I started a dreadnaught fit on a 40 mm base, now you have artillery, fighter jets, and titans stomping around on an area the size of a football field - and the game has gone from a tactical game of movement to a game of statistics and buckets of dice.
  10. Thanks for the explanation - I still don’t see the connection with the aestethics of nightmare elves and were beasts though 😊
  11. Why fae? I don’t see the connection thematically. Zoraida and her swampthings, gators etc. There it makes sense... But I’d much prefer seeing some Neverborn for Lucius
  12. If you play to win, prepare to spend topdollar to follow the meta, it’s what sports enthusiasts do - heck, quite a few do just to collect the newest gear (not unlike miniature hoarders). Another thing is, that Malifaux meta changes once a year - at least. Via GGXX, if you want to be competitive, you’ll have to ho with that flow. But nothing is dropping you from playing older editions privately - or even have tournaments.
  13. Looking at upgrades, I was warming up to the new No Prisoners, I think, it looks great for the Investigators. On The Prowl after killing, they’ll love the 2” push to make contact with a new enemy. Riot Gear more situational, but wading through hazardous terrain seems nice. And when you face a crew like Von Schill, or a model like Papa Loco, it’ll make your life so much easier. Catch Them looks to be really powerful, use Interrogate to teleport a model, means it’ll be hard to escape the long arms of the law - or whatever Lucius would call it. Maybe dumping the Doppleganger for a list like this : Lucius’ Madhouse - No Prisoners (Guild) Size: 50 - Pool: 3 Leader: Lucius Mattheson Totem(s): The Scribe Hires: Dr. Grimwell Nurse Heartsbane Alan Reid Investigator No Prisoners Investigator 2 No Prisoners False Witness Which also gave me room for a False Witness - I really look forward to those models, they seem like real force multipliers.
  14. I see it more of a concept to be refined. And thematically... Lucius sendes out his little ones to scare off his targets, calls in the Asylums to deal with the obviously deranged, who run around screaming about ‘creepy kids’, then have Reid and his Investigator interrogate them in ze dungeon Personally, I’d rather try to fit in a False Witness or two.
  15. I won’t disagree that having longer reach is preferable, but let’s look at, what it does : Facing a longer reach forces you to spend an activation to close the distance - which is a bummer. However, this is dependent on your opponent getting the charge and position himself advantageously. This is somewhat mitigated by Staggered, as you will have the longer charge range. And also mitigated by the number of pushes and out-of-activation moves in the crew. A longer reach allows you to threaten an area and counter Interact - and coming from Pandora, where the two most important models have no engagement range whatsoever, I know how crucial this can be. However there is so much anti-scheming tech in the crew already that I’m willing to let that slide. With that in mind, I might go for something like the Peacekeeper, with its raw damage potential, 2” reach and the luxury of armor - and I like the model much more Then again, this is all theory. So get it on the table and try it out, and report when this turns out to be the new Shenlong
  16. I’d be too, but besides long range Staggered I don’t see what other synergy, the judge offers. A min3 Henchman is great, but the list already offers three min(3) beaters in Reid and his Investigators, whom Lucius can boss around. Compare to Heartsbane’s Straitjacket, that can be mimic’ed, forces discard or Slow and comes with two amazing triggers. Judge is very much herself, whereas I’d look more to models, that can chain effects like with Coordinated Attack, or compound the misery an opponents is caught in, like when you reduce his hand and Reid strikes up a truly Boring Conversation. - Caveat, I’ve got much more experience playing Neverborn and particularly Pandora, and I like that overly convoluted playstyle. My Guild experience is back in M2E.
  17. I don’t think, you should think so much of dedicated carriers. I think more of this like a game of basket or soccer, where you pass the ball around - which is another argument for Doppleganger over 46. BTW : Which ‘raider’ are you referring to?
  18. Playing around with the crew builder, I noticed a couple of things on Asylum. A - they like to hand out Staggered. Neutering peoples movement seems like a good way to stop them from scoring this one. B - they’ve got restraints, and this could potentially be devastating as well. Are you even able to pass a lodestone if you’re restrained? C - Movement sheananigans. Maybe a crew could look somewhat like this : New Lucius Mattheson Crew (Guild) Size: 50 - Pool: 4 Leader: Lucius Mattheson Totem(s): The Scribe Hires: Dr. Grimwell Alan Reid Doppleganger / Agent 46 Nurse Heartsbane Investigator Investigator 2 Reid, Grimwell and Heartsbane can throw the Staggered condition around to where it hurt the most and drain your opponents hand, then bring in Lucius, Doppleganger and Investigators to further bring the pain - I’d go with Doppleganger over 46, as her Lure allows for more movement disruption. You’ve even got abundant access to handing out slow to further hobble your opponent.
  19. I plan to base my lists on Investigators, Lawyers and False Witnesses. Then play around with adding Grimwell, Reid and the Doppleganger for fun. 46 is cool, but IP is less relevant, when your opponent has no cards to cheat with.
  20. Your point being? That’s where points are scored, and it’s probably where you’ll find your opponent.
  21. You know, it’s quite okay for Nekima to use her power of flight to put herself in basecontact with a Corrupt Ley Line marker, and then have someone else pass her the ball. Just because you can’t use flight, Back Alleys or Leaps, when carrying the ball, it doesn’t mean these abilities make a model useless.
  22. Absolutely true. And thats really the thing that makes Nekima bad. Not suboptimal defenses, but her one-dimensional playstyle. Just as the Viks are cool, but offer boring gameplay, along with most other beater Masters.
  23. Seamus needs to Jump through hoops to fire his cannon twice. Seamus has no access to min3 flying minions... Differences in crews is what makes this game interesting. And heck, there are plenty of masters with worse damage tracks, engagement range and Stats But... that’s not saying there aren’t more ‘competitive’ masters to play. However in most games, the simple beater master swinging a magical greatsword and rushing opponents will be bottom rung. The reason is simple, the rush-to-kill-berserker strategy is easy to read and counter. Compare her with Pandora instead, she has no engagement range, so opponents are free to scheme or just leave her. Her damage is dependent on the target, she has no fancy movement abilities and is forced to walk forward through terrain etc., and all her support costs actions, unlike Nekima’s that are more derivative effects.
