  1. From a competitive standpoint, I take either Sandeep or Marcus into 95% of my tournament games and had some decent success. They are great all comers and very flexible. I find I make my counter selections in crew selection instead, where there are lots of options. I admittedly haven't played Ironsides yet in Wave 5. I love Raspy but she is way too predictable vs good opponents. I feel that Ramos and Colette are pushed out by Sandeep since he does what they do (activation control or scheming respectively) but offers better wrinkles and flexibility. Have never played Kaeris or Mei, but have never lost a game to either and haven't been impressed whenever I've played against them.
  2. Thank you! And yes, all the models are magnetized, so I can hopefully get them on the table at some point!
  3. Like many of the other participants I haven't seen Stranger things yet, but Malifaux provides plenty of strange material! I'm imagining the reaction of a photographer who gets a request for family Christmas Photos from Pandora. Candy and the Changeling (the two children in the front), were incredibly small models - essentially 15mm scale - and a fun challenge to paint. The ugly Christmas sweater design on Teddy and the photo studio backdrop are done with freehand. All the models are magnetized so they can be removed and played on the table as well. Last pic is of the "strange" Christmas cards which Pandora will send out this holiday season...

  5. Thank you for saying so. My opponent had a gorgeous piece, but I thought I edged him on Theme too. I spent so much time on the theme elements this time with the assumption it was 40% of the total score.... I'll place less emphasis on it next time, more on the painting.
  6. Wanted to share some additional WIP pics for the water effects. It took a lot of work and I certainly learned a lot from the process. Outside of some final touchups and shadowing, I painted both models before the diorama was created. I set epoxy resin on the base to make it look like the TAGs were treading through water of some depth. Then I used gel medium to create the waves, in several layers. Thanks to the competition for pushing me to add to my skill set!
  7. Excellent diorama. Love vibrant colors and the dynamic in-action poses, especially the bucket!
  8. Here's a WIP pis for the background. Used airbrush followed by repeated ink washes for the ocean and my airbrush and brushwork for the planets.
  9. Haha thanks, I'd be lying if I didn't say that wasn't a bit of the inspiration
  10. "Coastal Conflict" A PanO Jotums and Yu Jing Guijia dueling on the coast of an alien world. I desperately wanted to paint a Wyrd mini for the theme, but felt there are few "water" themed models in Malifaux and that the ones which could be (Gremlins, Swampfiends) would be over represented this round. Models in this diorama are from Infinity. I fully painted both models before I began the diorama. To create the horizon in the background I used multiple ink washes (for ocean) and my airbrush (planets) on a large 11"x17" sheet of card stock. The water on the base was created starting with epoxy resin which I dyed with dark blue ink (I desired opaque water). Then I mixed blue paint with heavy gel medium to create the waves on top of the resin. The biggest pain was the hours of drying in between applying all the layers. For the big waves near the models' feet and the water covering the Jotum's flamethrower I needed 4 layers of gel! Many thanks to the judges and good luck to the other participants this round!
  11. I think a great counter to Viks in Wave 5 would include Ironsides, Steamfitter, and the Medical Automaton. The Automaton has a front card ability to move another model within 3" to base to base with it when it takes dmg. Totally ruins any big charge. Add the steamfitter to convert severes to moderates for whoever could be tanking a charge. Positioning will be important, but make sure the Viks can't whirlwind on our whole crew. But if you can get a model to tank the charge, then be moved to B2B with the Automaton, the Viks are shit out of luck. Automaton still has heals too.
  12. Thank you all for the kind words, it means a lot from this group of talented artists <3
  13. Believe me, a lot of people play it wrong. When I first started playing Malifaux Raspy was my first master, and I played it wrong for about 2 months before a more experienced player explained the wording. Ice mirror only impacts LoS and range, but the pillars have to be placed within 12" of the casting model. Raspy or Wendigo are still the ones casting the spell, not the mirror node.
  14. Raspy's card reads: "When taking as Ca action, this model may draw LoS and range from a friendly model with Frozen Heart within 10" and LoS that is not engaged." Cold Nights reads: "Place two Ice Pillar markers touching each other within 12" of this model and at least 1" from any model or Marker." Since the ice mirror node is not the model casting (not "this model" in Cold Nights), the answer seems pretty clear to me, but I've certainly been wrong before.
