  1. If those rats end up in as many pieces as the zombie chihuahua I will not be pleased.
  2. Victoria - Dang, that's the one I'm in already... you wouldn't happen to have a ticket for the first HH would you? >8) I'm hoping for a dropout on site. Thanks anyway! Soooooo... I just got an email conveinently showing me all the gen con goodies today. I also just realized I am spending a lot more money than I thought! Need those effigies!!!
  3. Yeah - I think that that is actually the strange thing - most of the enforcers seem to be especially excellent and oddly totems, as well. I'd also say that a lot of masters have a henchman much cooler than they are as well. As for plastics/metals - the only plastic master I prefer over original metal is Hoffman - his plastic looks great. And the search for sweet proxies continues... It's always been important to me to have a very unique looking army. Conversions seem to grab other hobbyist's attention more than anything else.
  4. Tired of your boring looking master? Wish he/she was a lot more interesting? Well - looky here, I found a model that is about 5x more interesting then 1/2 the masters in the game and 100% Wyrd product: That's right - the lowly Desperate Merc model sure received the badass treatment. Go ahead - put this bad boy side by side with your master and ask someone at random who they think the master model in the crew is. Step 1: Remove Merc's head. Step 2: Remove Master's head. Step 3: Swap heads. Step 4: ??? Step 5: Profit! Guaranteed to work... half the time. PROTIP: I'd most definitely put the hat back on your new "master" as well - everything is better with a tophat - ask Colette!
  5. Same could probably be said about Age of Sigmar... but... that shit ain't happening. I look at AoS as a convenient, if forced, way of finally severing my ties with that god awful company. They killed Fantasy, that kills my interest. I was only a real faction in that game half the time anyway (and a hauty tauty FW faction once 8th hit ). I can see why 1st->2nd edition severed other people's ties with Malifaux. Edition changes can be ugly. EDIT: Then again, if he was refering to the release schedule shenanigans as being the reason for not bothering, I guess that makes all of this irrelevant.
  6. Okay, so there are a few of you. Well, actually - outside of tournaments - I do play whatever I want - I'm a master player not a faction player. Its pretty much as easy as "declaring your faction" when actually you were intending to play Colette the whole time - its just sneaky. Inside tournaments I just look at the primer and choose the best two per faction for the job and hope for the painting award. I don't think you get anymore variety. There are always going to be one-two masters who see a lot of play and one-two who see next to none... generally speaking. So at Adepticon I saw lots of dreamer and levy as far as the eye can see. Something tells me these players (myself included) weren't impacted by faction at all. Almost, iirc most of the top players pretty much just played single master the whole time... We'll see what the rest f con season looks like though.
  7. trikk - Most definently not explaining every single one of my points - if you don't see it then you never will. My entire generalized view of this hobby is that it takes a very special person to fall into it - my opinion is that this hobby is both cool and ridiculous as hell. Most normal people would want to have nothing to do with the hidden parts of this hobby that you don't appreciate face value and/or there are much easier/more facilitating hobbies/interests instead. A person would have to be very interested for me to push them - most people would be better off playing boredgames and vidyas. Besides, most people will push themselves into it if they really want it. I am very aware of the manipulation of a compulsive nature that this hobby relies on and I am just attempting to save people time/effort/money with an informed decision. Chances are good that that "new community member" who got coaxed into the game won't stick with it unless they are dedicated anyway. I'd say thats a pretty responsible attitude of mine but I'm probably just being the "bad guy" again. zFiend - You're always making my day. <3
  8. I'd honestly like to scrap all this silly dual faction nonsense in favor of brand new unique masters. Thoughts? Actually, lets just get rid of factions all together and stop pretending that anybody who plays this game is (dedicated) faction inclusive.
  9. The good stuff sells itself - no real need to be a pusher. If someone sees a table in mid-game with exceptional miniatures and they get that awestruck look chances are good that they are already hooked or at least interested. I'd rather have people ask about it themselves then be a pusher and "spread the good word" as it were. Negatives include all the normal obvious big points like: - time - money (no matter "how little" or what game) - transportation and awkwardness of play - lack of availability/gaming potential - inclusive (or at least very "particular") community -think small town - by this I mean like how its not readily accessible for all personalities ie. prevalence of "geekdom" or geek culture or maybe not catering for groups like females or what have you .... flame on :/ But there are also a host of other things you see from being in the hobby for a long time that aren't readily apparent... I'm talking about things like being overwhelmed by the sheer scope of games (holy fuuuuuuuuu adeptus titanicus and apocalypse) or how your ability/potential doesn't meet your own personal standards for what you want to achieve or even perhaps powercreep, edition changes and so on. Not to mention all the cut fingers, no-return investment, trial and error and mental balancing act of maintaining some kind of moderation with your jobby. Blah, that's it for me - I'm getting upset just thinking about what I got into a long time ago. This is all precluded on how seriously you're going to take it - but honestly, why would you commit yourself to something you weren't serious about? Oh wait, the "fun" rationalization right? No reason you cant be fun and serious at the same time.
  10. trikk - Yeah, I generally like the "only painted models" rule even though it sounds a little "high and mighty" in an inclusive way when thinking about it out of context. The worst thing Wyrd did, imo, is make those translucent crews - promoting easy entry into wargaming is unacceptable! This is srs bsns only. Take that boardgame mentality elsewhere. My list of cons is pretty damn extensive and usually starts with a groan and a "okay, here goes..." Yet I find myself very dedicated to the hobby... still haven't figured out why that is just yet. :/
  11. Currently digging all of The Glitch Mob's mixtapes - notably Crush Mode.
  12. Oh look, what we have here is a possibly rather parched looking stereotypical representation of "darkness." Or this one because, yeay - options. And what we have here is a... sea-dwelling crustacean and/or arthropod of some kind... possibly an ancient descent of a mirelurk king that boned a prehistoric giant centipede: I really hope that model gets an alt scuplt one day... otherwise I never want to see one of these hit the table without googly eyes.
  13. Although its more of a proxy - I don't see any TO's saying you can't use them as guilty - they look perfect for the role and 100% Wyrd. I have an original brass arachnid so I plan on using the new one on a 50mm as a large arachnid - I'd also consider this the grey area between proxy and "conversion" but I don't think anybody would argue with the choice.
  14. I'm with zfiend - they'd be on the tray simply because they look awesome... sitting next to nightmare golem... getting no play. I'm just getting into the green so I was hoping you'd tell me if they are good or not.
  15. Blasphemy! How daaaaaaaaare you. I would never even consider putting a model on the table unless it was fully painted, based, and varnished to a high standard. Your confession is both shocking... and outrageous! To you I say good day, sir.
  16. Jack Daw likes chocolate milk, hanging out in the rain, and long strolls through the graveyard 'round twilight. I'm personally basing my *new* (repainted/heavy heavy conversion because I'm not using a damn thing from the new set) JD crew graveyard/halloween themed and I'm doing a combination between Nightmare Before Christmas aesthetic with an almost "Odin's Wild Hunt" feel - where him and his comrades sweep over the land leaving behind a trail of massacre. And yes... I do have te best crew ideas ever... thanks for noticing. ... now where did I put that Garden of Morr set?
  17. You only get better by playing a better opponent.
  18. I'll definently be around for pick up games every day after Thursday - thats my shopping day! Hoping to get some big 8-man brawls in just like at Adepticon. I'll probably just be hanging around picking out people who aren't gaming. I would love to get a pick up with both Mister Joel Henry and the much more shadowy Mister UK No. 1 who seems to have slithered into Gen Con mostly unnoticed.
  19. Totally appropriate! How else would I find out about these podcasts... I love Malifaux podcasts!
  20. Ooo a trainstation! I could find a use for that... it is a bit boring looking, though. I seem to remember buying an entire WHFB Manor set for 100$ CAD and that is a boatload of terrain with options. 45 EU is too steep for me and my terrain collection contains more than enough options. There is a strange cartoony like aesthetic to this line too that I can't get over... not to say I wont be paying attention to the new stuff coming out. I think I've been spoiled by WHFB terrain and this jigsaw looking stuff just does'nt compare looks wise.
  21. Just thought of another one for Perdita: The Big Gundown - The Prodigy. Its so easy to think of ones for Perdita... if Malifaux had a movie I'd imagine she'd be the main character... mostly because Justice is too boring.
  22. I honestly don't see an issue with the releases and how it had been handled. I mean, I like taking issue with lots of stuff - but I just don't see it here. Actually, nevermind - Wyrd, could you please stop releasing so much stuff? I'm having a hard time keeping up.
  23. To give you an idea of how poorly I photographed my entries - Lil' Nate's shirt is actually blue - but looks black in the photo. Not to mention the abundance of both natural and unnatural light source all over the damn place... not to mention the shadows! /facepalm I got some help on the subject now, though. Hopefully next time I'll be ready and break Top 5. I'm also planning on going back and re-photographing my entries once I figure this picture/lighting thing out... but first!... Zombie Miss Piggy!
  24. Well, I can appreciate all three of those points. I never really thought of it that way. After all, a videogame is all codes and design you don't have to worry about whereas a wargame is having the entire game in your head x2 (because you have to consider your opponent's strategy as well). I think what is really happening here is a conservative jobbyist is butting heads with a more free thinking gamer and we are just pretending to talk about this subject which may or may not have gone off topic. I couldn't imagine getting into wargaming for the game aspect alone but I guess people do. I think you people are silly!... but I understand. All I really want to do is smash face with my pretty little guys. I suppose the benefit of my mindset is that I win the game the moment I'm playing against an opponent who faces off against me with a premium army. I take a bunch if pics and couldn't be happier - you silly gamers actually have to play the game. Now, then - try to explain to me the mindset behind playing this game with unpainted minis attached to a bases via sticky tac, if you'd be so kind. Regardless, despite being more appreciative to the gamer-mentality of the hobby I still feel compelled to be very transparent about all aspects of the hobby to a prospective player... bad stuff included.
  25. Well, then. /poutyface I know what you mean - I love that I can just swoop up all the gremlins all at once but without a set release date you never know how long you will have to wait if you don't just buy everything you can. Tough call.
