Well, I don't know about a *must* particularly if the main goal is to just have fun. But Nythera Aftermath is a really fun card to play with. I'd second the VS box + SS. More synergy and I think both you and your opponent would have more fun with SS (or Lazarus) than with Taelor.

Does the fact that some names in the list are grey have any meaning? Mine is grey (Craig Bishell), so I just want to make sure everything is in order.

Honestly, I can't see who else they would be. I mean, if it's not Sonnia / Kirai, why make them look so similar? Would be an epic bait and switch, and IMO, kinda pointless. True about the sorcerors, and maybe that's why Sonnia is there - to keep them in check.

Boom. Well, that answers that then. The 2 player box is Kirai v Sonnia, and we definitely get some Malifaux/TOS crossover. Makes sense that the intro / start product contains characters that existing Malifaux players can relate to. My question is who the freaky spellcaster looking dudes are. They definitely don't seem like the kind of people Sonnia would normally associate with. At least not on friendly terms...

Dude, that is literally the first point of the first part (December) of the roadmap! It's probably my top feature request, along with the ability to browse upgrades.

Wanted to buy one PW Lucius. Painted or unpainted is fine, but preferably with card. I have a PW Teddy I would be willing to trade and/or cold hard cash.

The Undying could also be Leveticus related. Though I doubt we'd see an encounter box with a master.

Last word was that shipping was pushed back ~3 months from December, so likely shipping in March. Backerkit will likely close down at the last possible minute - so probably in Feb.

That's also possible, and would provide a nice synergy with Kirai and her Ikiryo (the big one in the background?) as champions on one side, vs Dreamer and Lord Chompy Bits as champions on the other. Would be a good excuse to release the new "grown up" Dreamer model too. Hmmm...

A couple more things that occurred to me: First, it looks a little light on model count for TOS. Maybe one unit and two champions? The big guy at the back looks too small to be a titan, but maybe he's just a second champion or special type of single model unit. Could there be more models not shown yet? Then again, the Malifaux starter set is only 4 models per side, so I suppose there is precedence for the starter set to be much smaller than needed for a full game. Second, is that Kirai? May just be coincidence, but their is certainly a pretty strong resemblance to how she has been drawn/described, and the association with spirits. First Malifaux / TOS crossover model? Makes me wonder who the Guild champion could be... Sonnia/Lady J/Ortegas all seem to be very Malifaux focussed, and I don't see McMourning or Nellie leading large numbers of troops. So Lucius (he *is* the most associated with the guild "army" - guards and the like), Hoffman (possible if it's largely constructs) or McCabe?

Also worth noting it was in the context of a 2 player starter - other half guild?

Yep, I have had no issues at all running without minis. You need to be able to keep things straight in your head, but when you're only talking about typically < 10 characters (Fated and opponents) it's not so hard. Plus, the players will usually remember how far they were from the opponent(s) they were interacting with. Sometimes it can help to sketch out a rough map, but I'd only usually consider minis (or some other type of token) for a particularly large or complex encounter.

I would say librarian, trapper and 1x freikorpsman are the core (from what you have listed). The steam trunk, specialist and second freikorpsman are matchup dependent (though the steam trunk, and to a lesser degree the second freikorpsman, I will usually take for cheap activations). For the remainder of the list I'll typically pick two from Hannah, SS or Lazarus (maybe Anna), plus upgrades, again dependent on matchup. I'm only a newbie myself, but I have taken VS to 2x 3 round tournaments now, so take my advice with care.

Was originally supposed to be December for backers, but that was recently revised to March due to production issues. Not sure about a retail release... but I imagine it won't be too long after that. So maybe Easter 2018?
