  1. @Brdparker, I must try this burning raptor plan you speak of. How did Willie work out? He is a very fun character, but everyone I play marks him as 'target #1.'
  2. Yes, all flips includes damage flips. The other case, not doing so, is specified by, "all duel flips."
  3. Malifaux hobby afternoon at The Sage's Shoppe, West Lafayette, Indiana, USA Sunday, Aug. 10, noon -- 3 PM Painting, basing, assembling, terrain Will have some materials to use, just bring some minis or terrain starts Send questions, or just show up and join in
  4. Sholto and Mister Shine mentioned spills and barrels above. How about an oil spill (or coal tar) by a broken barrel. Hobby Lobby sells packs of about 10 small wooden barrels just the right size, just need to paint them. Suggestions for spill effects beside the barrel are covered by folks above. If you really had patience you could model an area covered in caltrops. Placing them close together would make balancing bases on them easy enough. Not sure if that is urban enough though, since these could theoretically be thrown out anywhere. With broken bricks or any other 'rubble' the secret to having minis sit nicely upon the terrain is to have the 'wavelength' of the surface noise much smaller than 30 mm and with the maximum height consistent. This way the base will always be resting on several points of the same height. Seems fiddly, but shouldn't be too difficult if you use the correct sized rubble material, and press it all into a bonding surface like clay with a large flat object, so that many bits are pressed down to the same maximum height.
  5. This sounds like great burning fun, Sybarite. I've been mainly using Kaeris to bring the fire, but combining Mei's melee-fu with fire is also awesome. I'm going to try this combo out soon. Thanks for the idea!
  6. Davicus, I like the canvas idea---should be extremely durable. I expect the texture would prevent bases from slipping. Is this correct? Would probably be a solid surface for holding paint and glue as well. Adding canvas to the list for my next table.
  7. Think of it as running by without stopping to engage in melee. I know, "they could still take a swing as they run by." But, this is how I remember the rule.
  8. Thanks Viruk and Eldarion! Viruk: I like that the grass extends into the card area on your table. Your idea of the black static grass is great -- could make this much thinner than masking tape. My one attempt at using this was didn't work very well, but I'll practice it a bit and try this on the board if I get it figured out. Elarion: I've done the whiteboard D&D thing as well! Now if only I could have found a whiteboard with a fine-scale grid on it. Cheers,
  9. Here is my attempt at making a gaming table. It is just the top, and I can move it around and drop it onto existing tables. The lower shelf is working well at keeping things handy and organized, as well as out of view of the opponent. The surface for cards is raised a bit off the playing surface, which is appealing to me for no definable reason. The surface is green felt stretched over rigid foam insulation. Bases do not slip on this surface, so I'm pleased with it so far. Using foam and pine wood keeps the whole thing light and easy to move around. If I ever get a dedicated gaming space, I may build a new table with a heavier surface and use finished oak, so I'll call this the test table. The blue painters tape down the middle to separage the two gaming areas is a temporary solution. I haven't come up with a good-looking finished idea for this yet. I guess I could just use a sharpie marker and long metal straight-edge. The main thing I like is having the shelves. Anyone else build a gaming table and find features they really liked?
  10. From the album: prof_bycid's materials randomizer experiment, entry #42

The table top that I made for war-gaming. The lower shelf really helps with keeping things at hand and organized. This one is just a prototype in unfinished pine. The surface is rigid pink insulation with green felt streched over it. Mini's do not slide on this surface, so I find it much better than painted surfaces which are too slick or flocking which rubs off. If I ever get a designated gaming room, I will make a heavier table out of finished oak, but for now I can move this top around.
  11. These look great, Doc. What are the markers with the 8 spots for? I think I'm missing something obvious; marking off something.
  12. Spectre, no reason this wouldn't work. You can draw inspiration for a table layout from anywhere, I think. I agree that the layout seems great for Malifaux. I personally really like the idea of topography like the sniper hill you mention. If you do this, post some pictures for us, please.
  13. Hmm, in that case, I suppose thinner but rigid is best. Perhaps I'll try piano wire on my Mech Rider. Might be good for the Skeeters as well, Irkendoom.
  14. I will be running a demo of Malifaux (2nd ed.) at The Sage's Shoppe in West Lafayette, Indiana. 4 PM -- 6 PM, Saturday, July 12, 2014. 307 Sagamore Parkway W. Everything necessary to try out Malifaux will be provided, so come check it out. PM me if you have any questions.
  15. I have just started looking for exactly this, only for supporting large metals that are precariously mounted by one hoof. Try a general plastics supplier. I am about to try our local place, Meyer Plastics here in Indiana. If I am successful, I'll post on here again.
  16. How realistic do you want the wings to be? With insects, and especially with flies including mosquitoes, it's all about the wing venation. Would you be interested in seeing an image of what the venation pattern of a generalized mosquito looks like? Sure, no one will appreciate the extra work most likely, but if you do run into an entomologist at an event, they just might yell out, "Well I'll be darned, if that isn't a fine likeliness of Anopheles quadrimaculatus!" (or whatever species you model it after). Apologies, bug-nerd-out finished. But, you want a wing, I can get you a wing.
  17. This is going to be great! Is there a general strategy for where to meet up in the Events Hall for pick-up games of Malifaux (e.g., near the Malifaux tournament area, or near the pizza counter)? Or is it just a free-for-all wherein we look for people carrying Malifaux bags and standing on tip-toes to peer over the crowds for the same? I hope to meet lots of you there this year!
  18. Threw this goofy picture up (note the wonky tie) just so you all can recognize me at GenCon and such and say, "Hi!"
  19. That looks like what I am looking for, Nagash13, much thanks.
  20. Thanks for the insight, Eldarion. You can just make out the large holes in the backing for running cords in, and it is sitting in a corner directly in front of an outlet (hence the white cord on the floor), so I can definitely get AC in there. I'll avoid the light pucks. If I find something I'm happy with, I'll post the information here. Cheers
  21. Good idea, Scorpionox17. Closest IKEA is about 4 hour drive, but I will look online and see what they offer.
  22. Hello all, I came across this glass-fronted cabinet at a neighbourhood garage sale and instantly knew its place in the grand scheme of things---as a miniatures display & storage cabinet. It even had a "free -->" sign next to it, so obviously no one in that neighbourhood plays Malifaux. I would like to outfit it with some lights to show the mini's and terrain better. The flash on the camera worked well here, it is actually much darker inside usually. Anyone have any experience with this kind of thing or ideas? I was thinking of using LEDs somehow. If I get ambitious, I may surface the shelves in a Malifauxesque way as well, undecided at this point. Any ideas welcomed.
