  1. Ye walked the whole rainbow, did ye? Ye earned me gold then, did ye? C'mon on and get yer reward then, laddie.
  2. Awesome. Really love the color choices.
  3. That one is going into my reference folder. Love the icy touch on the base. Top notch.
  4. It has been a damn long time, but I've found myself riding a recent wave of Malifaux 2e at my local. I've been enjoying the game quite a lot, more so than 1st edition by a far margin. However, my variety of models is severely lacking so I've been working to round out my collection of late. First up is a pair of Crooligans. With all these newfangled scheme marker VPs, I needed some no nonsense runners for my Seamus gang. Also nice to have something less than 5ss when mathing out a crew. Next up is some terror abuse....
  5. Awesome crew! Great colors - vibrant but not too bright. I would love to see some closeups!
  6. Well, it's been a damn long while. I lost some steam about halfway through Aseamus and put it away for months. I hadn't returned to it until this week past where I finished him off in a few frenzied sessions. My queue is pretty stupid long at this point, but hopefully more to come before 2014. As with much of my Malifaux collection, I got this model second hand. Fortunately the initial paintjob wasn't too severe, just a bit garish. Avatar Seamus deserves a girlfriend as much as the alt sculpt, so I modeled up a sewer base with room for a companion. 2 soulstones also gets you upgraded to a blonde. The original model: Custom base w/ reaper female (originally a fairy/sprite? Tinkerbell is now an undead prostitute.): Finished!
  7. This is the best blog on here. I can't check it too frequently lest I become totally demoralized with my baby-skills. Love Jakuuna. Continually impressive stuff!
  8. Pages and pages of awesomesauce! Well done all around on both painting and conversions.
  9. These guys are looking great man! Glad you finally improved your picture-taking to do your models justice!
  10. These are great. You have smooth highlights across the crew, and some subtle shading which looks great. I love the glowy sewer. You make me want to add some effect to my own sewer bases...
  11. Fantastic stuff all around- quite a striking painting style. The terrain and boards are drenched in awesomesauce!
  12. Much thanks to everyone! Hopefully I'll see you at the next Warmonger event. I'm still trudging my way up this game's steep learning curve. I certainly hadn't seen it before I set out to paint it that way, but I guess it's a natural leap with the sculpt. I'm afraid I plan on a few more Joker-themed models to come. What's a Joker-Seamus without a Molly-Harley? I've continued a productive painting week finally completing the Ghost Spirit! I originally primed him white and slapped some ink on him so he was playable as I didn't quite know how I wanted to approach the model. Finally just sucked it up and went in without a plan, and he kind of wound up as one would expect. The base was simply greenstuff ripples around his stone outcrop. Definitely one of Wyrd's weirdest...
  13. Hey folks, it's been a while! Too long in fact, but I do have a significant update for you all. Since my last post I attended Adepticon. In a 24 hour frenzy the week before the con I managed to assemble and paint my display board. I also tried to finish up the Dead Rider, but at 2am the night before my flight I decided there was no need to rush and I was probably better off packing my bags and sorting out how I was carrying models for 5 different tournaments, and that maybe some sleep would be nice... As Andrew kindly mentioned, with no small help from said display I managed to take Best Painted Crew in the first Masters qualifier on Friday. Naturally I didn't qualify (i M noobsauce) but I did get some awesome games in, and I'm going to partake in way more Malifaux next year. I didn't have much material to base my display on. I knew that it would obviously be a sewer of some kind. The week before the tournament a clubmate hooked me up with two sections of an armorcast waterway. I rummaged through some discarded terrain fragments and laid my motley collection on a ~10"x10" piece of wooden shelf. The armorcast sections were a bit long, and I didn't want them running parallel so I sawed them off to meet at the corner. I envisioned a structure to both mask the end of the waterway, and to give the base some dimension. This left a too-open space where the majority of the models would go which I broke up with the conical structure (kind of looks like a cyborg breast now that I think of it; it's actually the main body of a toy Atgar 1.4 Defense turret from Star Wars). I cut metal "stones" for the flooring so the display would be magnetized. Where the waterway met the building I applied greenstuff to mask the join and give the impression of flowing water. After playing around with plasticard a bit I settled on a quick way to texture the structure by cutting out a pattern of "stone" for each facing and adding some sand. Before I closed it I added two bars to each opening to make it a bit more ominous. The top got its texture from some plasticard deck plating under which I inserted a metal sheet. The edge of the wooden shelf was rough, exposed wood, so I cut out plasticard panels which I would paint to look like bolted metal plates. I also used this for the back of the building so that the exterior appears to be bolted, rusting metal (the bolts are clipped sprue nubs). To mask the flooring I liberally glued kitty litter in between the tiling and against the embankment. I used plasticard hollow rods for piping, and added the front section of the Atgar turret/cyborg breast to the waterway. As little Easter eggs I added a GW zombie hand reaching out from between the bars to the front, and a zombie face floating just above the water in the back. I'm guessing the sewers of Malifaux are filled with bits of all kinds of persons and critters and machines. Primetime: I got the sucker primed then started drybrushing. This took almost as much time as building the thing! For so much surface area drybrushing is pretty tedious -- never have I more longed for an airbrush. Fortunately GuyInSuit kept me company that afternoon as he also had some last minute Adepticon painting to get done. He vampirically drained my luck after I went into a drybrushing comatose and used it to win the Masters. 1st Drybrush: I used GW's Devlan Mud quite liberally along with several layers of drybrushing to achieve a similar effect to my basing on a larger scale. Other than some detailing for the zombies, that's pretty much it! Finished result: Display with crew: As I said earlier I abandoned my Dead Rider's paint job with barely his base colors applied. He more than met the minimum tabletop standards, but he didn't make the display for paint judging. Quitting at 2am was a very very good decision, as he wound up taking me many more hours to complete in the weeks that followed the convention (probably in the neighborhood of 10 total). I acquired the model second-hand, so the horse came with no horns. I replaced them with the horns from a GW chaos warrior, which I think look more aggressive. Initially he had more of the crew colors, especially on his cloak which was going to be checkered purple and turquoise. In the end I decided to try my hand at some freehand design, and painted his cloak a more menacing black. The symbol is a combination of elements from an image search: an ankh (symbol for life) with a scythe at the bottom (symbol for death). I figured this was suitably ancient and appropriate for the rider. Here he is: Phew! That was long winded. Thanks for looking!
  14. Awesome work. Quite like Hamelin and Nix, and your style in general. As I've stuck myself with the sewer base inserts I've been thinking a lot about how to create some unique additions. Your sewer bases have given me some inspiration, so thanks!
  15. Yes, guide us, please! Amazing monochrome. Awesome stuff. Also that little motor in your lego casting chamber is damn clever.
  16. They're busy, but it works. There's a lot to notice between the models and the elaborate basing. Good stuff.
  17. Thanks for the comments! Much appreciated! The alternate Seamus is what inspired me to finally delve into Malifaux, so my hands were bound (by love). The Joker thing just came naturally -- it wasn't really specifically one incarnation or the other, just his colors and maniacal demeanor. The gang did battle in their first Malifaux tournament this weekend past. It was a small crowd of 8, but definitely weighted with some experienced players. I went 1-2 and experienced a lot of new stuff on the table (particularly a spanking by Kirai who I had never played). My crew did manage best painted, dying stylishly. I should have another update soon. There are a few more models I'd like to get done in time for Adepticon which is only weeks away.
  18. Awesome crew! Very clean, crisp painting. Excellent stuff. I think the rats coming out of the bag should have a few more details applied so they're not quite so monotone. Minor thing, but when you have such good results why not? Agree about the blue background. It actually goes nicely but is a bit too strong.
  19. Awesome project. It reminds me of the interiors of Tatooine for some reason. I think when doing a project like this some degree of practical gameplay goes out the window. Honestly someone can account for this terrain during crew selection so it shouldn't be too awful with a few mitigating rules.
  20. The Colette crew has a great backstage feel. My girl and I both woah'd the card flipping. great touch! Quite like the steely blue color scheme throughout those Neverborn. Welcome back to the hobby!
  21. So I finally have an update for you all. I just completed Bete Noire for my local's latest tournament. This will be my first Malifaux tournament experience so I'm glad I got her finished up in time for a groin slicing debut. As she's one of my favorite models I wanted to give her that special touch, so like Seamus she's been patterned after the Joker for a sinister bride-like aesthetic. Nothing like bright red lipstick to emphasize that smile! I also felt she deserved some special basing, so as I'm running out of my sewer inserts she got a custom Drawn to Death base using a GW zombie. Some green stuff provided the sewer tie-in with watery ripples. (Click for larger images) Hopefully I'll have some more for you soon!
  22. I love the stark black with the snow. Great blue lighting on the golem too. Groovy crew. I think a baking soda approach to the snow might look less artificial/crumbly. It wont yellow if you put some white paint in it.
  23. Teddy is awesome. I love the child's summoning circle.
  24. Gross, so therefore totally awesome!
