  1. Hi there Metalhed, great to see you. I was down in SA quite recently (february). Family commitments meant that I could do as many demo games etc as I would have liked, but its great to see that there were some other folks down there who were interested as well With regards arcanists, I'm in the same boat. I started out with Marcus, and quickly expanded into Tina and Ramos. Ramos is currently my favourite, and theres a lot you can do with him. One thing you will find quite fast with him is that he is ridiculously slow, at least before he manifests into his avatar, and it sometimes pays to use models that can counteract this to some degree. Kaeris with the student is a really good way to go for ranged damage support, and the toolkit means that you dont need to worry about the all important tomes. Remember to use Surge as often as you can with her and Ramos - It really helps to cycle through the crap cards you will inevitably draw. With regards the crew above - I saw that you used an arachnid swarm and 2 extra spiders. The swarm tends to be fantastic, but I would actually suggest deploying them individually to start with. This gives you an advantage in activation control, as well as meaning that your movement can actually be increased by the base size of the swarm as follows: swarm together means that you replace the active spider and 2 other spiders in base contact with a swarm. Now, the term used is Replace, which is a specific term. It means that you place the new model in base contact with one of the models being removed, apply all wounds and affects, and continue the activation with the remaining AP from the active model. However, saying the above, I tend to avoid starting with the swarms. The mechanical rider is a SS cheaper, and almost as killy. Since you are going to be summoning more spiders in anyway, you can get the best of both worlds - a very fast moving reliable model for schemes and combat, as well as the swarm (for its great combat potential and paralyse trigger). With regards schemes, Ramos tends to do well with the arcanist specific Sabotage scheme, when he has a fast moving model like Kaeris of the Mechanical Rider to go get it. Holdout works, as does Grudge (3 casts of Electrical Fire with a Ca of 8 will ruin anyones day). One thing I did see is that you used your small spiders to grab stake a claim. Unfortunately, the small spiders are insignificant, meaning that they arent the greatest for schemes and strategies (many of which require models to be significant to interact etc). Swarming them together into the swarm helps though, as the swarm itself *is* significant. With regards hard masters - Ramos tends to be very vulnerable to fast moving melee masters who can come in and attack Ramos from outside his own threat range. With Ramos' defence of 2, he really doesnt like taking any sort of melee attack, as chances are you will need to SS and cheat just to defend, even against a regular melee beatstick. Saying that, remember that models need line of sight to charge. If needs be, you can screen Ramos with other models, or use terrain to your advantage to give yourself cover. Taking all of the above in mind though, there is one thing that I would without a doubt recommend for any Ramos player looking to expand, and that is to pick up his Avatar. It is slightly pricy, but the model itself is beautiful, and the way it improves Ramos makes it more than worth it. With the Avatar, ramos looses some of his crew support abilities, and casting expert. In exchange, he becomes much faster, more mobile, more durable, harder to hit, better at summoning, much better in close combat, and much more capable all round. I cant off the top of my head think of *any* situation where aRamos is not worth the points.
  2. Molly's superior undead has been changed to the following wording: Superior Dead' now says "This model may choose to ignore any effect that targets Undead." this means that you can choose to allow it to heal her if she's friendly to nicodem.
  3. uh...don't you mean owww? tis a good thing Ryle has armor, and can have his lawyer make him Hard To Wound....
  4. Hi there and welcome. Myranda can be tough to use right, but there's a pretty good analysis of her strengths and weaknesses at the pull my finger wiki. It's a great place to go for model info etc. With regards the gunsmiths- one of the big deficiencies in a normal Marcus list is a lack of ranged damage. The gunsmiths really help in that respect, in that they have very respectable damage output at range.
  5. To be exact, it's radius is 4" + 15mm. It's a 4" aura from the base of the stitched, so it's even larger.
  6. Koali has it right, but to be clear: She can only shapechange into models with the Beast Characteristic printed on their stat cards. If you want a full list (mostly) go check out the pullmyfinger wiki - theres a comprehensive listing on there that was compiled just after book 3 got released.
  7. perhaps change bully to the following: Bully: Ht 1 models targetting this model receive :-fate on all duels targetting this model. it means that Bully is still very effective in limiting what can be done, but it also means that there is still *some* chance of overcoming it.
  8. He's incredibly vulnerable before he manifests, and a large reason he can manifest so easily is the toolkit. Taking out the toolkit turn 1 will make it much much harder to manifest. other than that - remember that his abilities require him to pick up the scrap counters before he can use them, and also that he can't leap in combat. Surround him - he's on a 50mm base, and then just keep hitting him, preferably with something that ignores armor. Other than that, Jack Daw is really nice, as his aura stops Ramos cheating and using SS.
  9. 1) As far as I can tell, Alyce would take the poison tokens. very unsure on this though - not sure how the Protect ability works. 2) it would activate, take a wound, inflict a wound on mcmourning, and then it would die, causing 2Dg. 3) Decapitate states after damage. you declare the trigger as normal, inflict the damage, and then the trigger goes off. They take the damage, and then they still have to discard the cards or soulstones to keep them alive. 4) I take it you are talking about the Executioners trigger? If yes, the second charge is completely new - it is resolved from start to end as normal. This means that as long as the second target is in the LoS of the executioner when the trigger is declared he can charge it.
  10. Yes, it is possible to push round to the other side. The way it works is you nominate a point on the target models base as the end point, and you follow the normal push rules to get to that point.
  11. Unfortunately, you can't. The use of broodmother interrupts the companion sequence. What it means is that the tot is forced to activate after Lilith.
  12. We're you using surge any time Ramos cast?
  13. a couple of things to remember when using rusty Alyce: when casting spells she has the option of using her casting of 6:crows or using ramos' casting of 8:tomes. this means that to cast Burnout, you only need a 7 of any suit. trying to do enough damage in one shot to kill the MTK or a LSA is the wrong way to go - you are better off using the toolkit to controlled detonate (to simply give you the scrap and not have to waste cards on stuff), or use Rusty Alice to Burnout both of them so that you only have to do weak damage to kill them off. To maximise your SS and your attach potential, I would recommend swapping the second LSA for a soulstone miner. The reasoning for this is that it can mine soulstone first turn (giving you a SS), and then second turn it can (0) overdrive, kill the MTK and LSA (both on 1 wound due to burnout) using :crows in the attack to gain 2 more SS, and then burrowing. with aRamos, you want to avoid *ever* using Salvage under Fire. Yes, you might be at a slight early disadvantage by killing off the LSAs, but the fact is that as soon as Ramos manifests, he can drop a $$$$$$$$pot full of models each and every turn.
  14. One thing I have found with him is that one thing he really needs is a small scrap pile to get going - ideally 4 or more scrap when he manifests. This allows him to get going straight away, and the LSA's are fantastic for turning scrap into, well, more scrap. with less than this, I think he takes too long getting up to speed, and he really suffers, as most of the abilities that make the avatar so much better than standard ramos are heavily scrap dependent. One of the really nice ways to do this actually can require a bit of luck on the card draws: basically, your standard crew would consist of: Ramos aRamos toolkit Rusty alyce SS miner LSA rest to taste. turn 1, MTK tomes Ramos, he summons and creates spiders. Alyce Burnouts the LSA and toolkit. SS miner mines SS. turn 2, MTK lab equips Ramos and SS miner. SS miner activates, overdrives, and attacks LSA and MTK with crows in the attack to gain 2 SS. (Alyce and Surge really help with stacking the deck like this). Alyce then Burnouts Ramos and does something else. Ramos summons first activation, then second activation he manifests. turn 3 onwards, Ramos can summon 1 - 2 minions a turn. If there isnt a pressing combat matter, he summons an LSA to turn into more scrap, and a warden, LSA, or Watcher (preferred. the deck mechanics are golden). seriously though, the watcher in an aRamos crew is really nice. Last game with him, I summoned the watcher turn 6, and (1)foresight (i think) meant that I could stack the odds of the game going on to turn 7. This meant that the game went from a 2 -2 to a 4-2 in Ramos' favour. Golden. With regards his play style though - I've found him to be so much more maneuverable its scary. The ability to Leap 8" and drop 2 significant models with Armour out another 6" is crazy good. its possible to actually drop a single significant model as far away as 22" from him, depending on planning ahead. He's also far more resilient than I expected - the Df 5, 11 wounds and Armour 2, which can go to Armour 4, means that most folks are only going to be doing 1 or 2 damage at a time. And even then, he can heal himself really easy.
  15. Hi folks. quick question - The jackalopes Multiply ability states that (verbatim, as i dont have the card to hand) when removed from play it may be summoned into base contact with a beast model when it is killed, before the beast is removed. How does this interact with Marcus after he avatars up? As part of Marcus' avatar manifest you have to remove any attached totems from the game. Does this prevent the jackalope coming back via Multiply?
  16. sketch and the guys ruled on this a while back, in regards to the sabotage scheme: sketches post
  17. Hey folks. Just out of interest, whats the highest scrap heap you've built up with avatar Ramos since you've been playing him? Had a game the other day where 48 soulstones worth of models were killed (either by the enemy or to give Ramos more scrap counters) over the course of a game. At the end of it, Ramos still had 22 SS worth of models left on the board, too, and he pulled out a 4-2 win through the use of a jammy Watcher to stack the deck for the end of game flip. Whats the largest pile of scrap you've built up with him?
  18. fast has a specified end point - as soon as you activate, its used up. The rest of the modifiers do not have a listed end point, and so they only go away at the resolve effects stage each turn.
  19. Hi guys, I am planning on running a demo day in conjunction with Dan Lowreys Tavern on Maccurtain Street in Cork City. date: 10/03/2012 12 - 6pm. the aim of the event is for new players to gain familiarity with their crews, or to try new crews, and as such the event will feature a variety of different games / scenarios involving 25 to 30 SS crews. If foks are interested, please feel free to contact me via PM or email, in order to confirm numbers. Many thanks, -Tograth
  20. He's got a really nice melee and ranged attack, with possible blasts of both. He has a nice enough stat line, but his main ooooo factor comes from the fact that he can assimilate (copy abilities and talents written on construct model's cards), similar to the guild master c Hoffman, but where he gets really nice is that if he discards 2 scrap counters the abilities he copies last till the end of the game instead of going away at the end of the turn. He's great with Ramos, where he can copy Use Soulstone.
  21. Hi folks, I realise that Lazarus isnt, as yet, a released model, but since the new ruling on assimilate restricts models to only things written on cards, how does this interact with Use Soulstone?Since masters and henchmen have Use Soulstone, but it isnt explicitly printed on their stat cards (in particular Ramos'), would Lazarus be able to copy the ability?
  22. magical extension is a (1) spell that allows you to cast a (1) spell of a connected master so long as you meet the spells casting requirements. In effect, you do not channel the spell you want to cast- rather, you channel Magical Extension.
  23. Ah ok. this clears up the confusion - I thought you were based somewhere in the states, not in the UK :D
