  1. I'm not disagreeing with this, but you would much rather you killed Levi each turn rather than he was killed by your opponent, so if you want to hold his activation till later you run the risk of him being killed before activation. Survivalist reduces this risk, offering extra options of what Levi will do before he dies each turn
  2. This can work, if you are plannign on late activations of Levi, manign that it is muh less likely he will be killed before activation. You just have to decide if the upgrade slot is worth the freedom of activation.
  3. Burning adds to the damage, if you are looking on a large enough scale. If you want the model to die before it activates this turn, then Burning probably isn't going to help you, but if you want it to die this turn before VP are scored, then burning does help you. Lots of people like to look at the highest possible output, in which case, a model which does 2 damage and 2 burning, can do 4 damage. Enough to kill a terror tot at the cost of 1 AP. Its like charging does not make the Jackolope do 3/3/4 damage, it actually does 1/1/2 +2 damage, which only really matters when you get the red joker. I really struggle to fill in a list of best to worst for most masters. The only Strategy that I think really splits masters apart is Stake a claim, because of the ability to get a model somewhere with 2 AP spare. Some masters really excel at this, and make factions that otherwise struggle able to compete. Its not entirely the case in Arcanists, as there are a decent number of non master specific ways to get models moving far enough without costing AP (or in the case of the duet, still having 2 AP), but even so models like Colette, Marcus and to a small extent Ramos find it easier thanks to a combination of re-activate (from the Brass arachnid)/alpha,/easy ways to passing out AP, ability to hire models that are good at it (silurids) or just actually being fast enough to stake a claim every turn on your own.
  4. Those are the different ways to manifest. The master that is going to manifest need to buy an avatar upgrade as well as select a manifest card. When your master meets its manifestation requirements from its manifest card, you get to flip over the avatar card, gaining new abilities, and replace your master model with a 50mm Avatar of the master. Each master has its own avatar upgrade card
  5. The avatar upgrade cards are in the shifting loyalties books. The rules for manifesting are in the rules manual, page 67, but you will also need shifting loyalties as there aren't any avatar upgrades that aren't in that book. (they will exist in card form in the shifting loyalties campaign deck.
  6. If you are allowed to declare ml actions, and you have a Ml attack and pounce, then yes, you can. If you can only declare walk and interact actions, then no you can't. You also can't declare a disengaging strike. If you have pounce and only Ca/sh attacks, then no you can't pounce. (or make disengaging strikes) EDIT Pounce does specify Ml attack actions, so a model with pounce and ca attacks couldn't ever use them in the pounce. From page 35 of the rules manual Resolving Actions is a fairly straight forward affair. The model simply proceeds through four steps, regardless of Actions type (Tactical or Attack). During a model’s Activation, the following steps are used to resolve an Action by the model: 1. Declare Action & Spend AP 2. Perform Duels 3. Resolve Results The Nurse limits what you can declare in Step 1. Pounce lets you declare a (1) ml attack if a model ends a push or move within 1" of it, so it will still go through the resolving actions steps for the rule book, of which the first is to declare the action.
  7. No. the model can only take Ml actions. Obey lets you declare an action with it, but it doesn't change what actions it can declare.
  8. Its actually Maniaical laughter. And Lucas McCabe is on a 50 mm base. At least to start with, so not every master is on a 30 mm base at the moment.
  9. I haven't got his card to hand, but for his upgrade, the text that gives him the Waking +1 condition is in the description of what to do when you succeed in the action. So no, it doesn't increase his waking unless he succeeds on the dreams of pain. (Daydreaming is probably the same, but until I actually read what it says I couldn't say for certain)
  10. For what its worth, I've spent a while looking at model wound stats. You get about 1 wound for 1 soulstone. A few models will get +1 wound, a few will get -1. Models with defensive abilities are likely to be level or -1. This holds as true with incorporial as is does with Armour and hard to wound. Incorporeal does not get you half expected wounds. at best it might cost you 1 or 2 wounds on expected. There are a few outliers but I think the only model that doesn't get at least ss-1 wound is datsuba. Who is a Df 6 incorporeal henchman. But even then She has 6 wounds for 8 ss. 12 wounds for 8 ss would be seen as amazing. If she even had 50% more wounds and had 9 wounds rather than Incorporable, she would be seen as very durable. (In my mind I expect it to remove 1 damage per attack on average, and thats generally about right. It does better against a few elite hits, but there are enough hits it doesn't help with. )
  11. "This model immediately takes a (0) action belonging to a friendly Leader in play. Any cards this model would discard during the course of the action are shuffled into its desk instead after completing the action." The cards you discard during the casting of disciple arn't discarded during the course of the Install youth, so wouldn't be affected by the rule that shuffles cards in instead. The card(s) that is used to cast Install youth would be, as would the card(s) from the healing flip if you made one.
  12. Just gone and corrected Pull my Finger as well.
  13. There isn't a right answer. She has a lot of healing options, and a lot of wounds, so she ought to last a while with out added support, but if you play her very aggresively, then she might need extra help. Also if your opponents are playing aggressively, then you might need more stones to keep her alive. Make a few lists, play a few games, and see how it goes. Whilst giving her 3 extra stones will keep her alive longer, that cost might upgrade an austringer to Francisco.
  14. I'll also add that the performers are mercenaries, so can be hired outside of faction. Some of it depends on how you want to see the theme of the crew. There is a band box called Crossroads 7 which are all mercenaries, so can be hired by anyone. Johan has always worked well with Colette from her soulstone smuggling stories rather than her showgirl cover.
  15. Obey targets a non leader model. Heed my voice on the hungering Darkness only targets enemies, which you might be confusing it with, but Obey can target friends
  16. I like hanging subtypes. Its a nice feel that they have larger plans for the game. Just because I can't use it now, doesn't mean that at some point, they will release a model, and suddenly, all those old models get a new lease of life. What I would like is some TT models that are of the Infiltration types, so they can go out to the other factions. I don't think 4 of the masters can take any pure TT models in their non tt faction, which might fit the story, but is a little less interesting from the other side
  17. I'd disagre, I think that you can compensate for lower stats with other defensive abilities I'd also like to point out that not all damage comes from attacking df. Models with Armour like abilities and Hard to kill get those protections against blast damage and pulse damage and condition damage (which can sometimes be placed without any duels) Quite a few models attack Wp, so a high Df doesn't help, where as the hard to wound or armour will still help. If you want to cheat the damage flip (lets say you do blasts on severe or such) then focus and attack works better against a high Df model than a lower Df model with Hard to wound. And there are always corner cases, where a model with low Df and High Armour is a great model for you to use to target yourself and get blasts off from. So yes, I probably would rather a point of Df over a point of Armor in general, but that's not always true. And the ability to have a range of different choices as to how you want a model to survive is one of the reasons there can be such a huge variety in peoples crews. By model a having a lower df and armor, perhaps it has a larger ml range to make it equal points, or it gets some other ability. A model with Df 4 and Armor+2 will typically last longer in a fight against Howard than a model with Df 5 will, even though it will get hit more often. (unless they are very low wounded models)
  18. Colette is certainly a true master, but her main use is making other models get better. A common approach is to get the biggest and hardest model you can, because making them take an extra action is much better than a cheap model taking an extra action. So Howard Langstrum from the Ramos box, or The corephyee duet are often taking in the lists, as they are 2 of the more expensive models in the game. This normally works well until you find players that either know how to play around your big beater, or can kill it very fast. The biggest problem with using Colette is activation paralysis. Her turns can achieve so much, its often hard to decide whats best at any given time.
  19. Ten thunders Brothers are able to do this with the right dance.
  20. Thunder summoning isn't particularly weak. Sure, you're behind Ressers, and Dreamer and gremlins but probably tied with Arcanist and Outcast and guild. (depending on how you rate the ability to summon strong models or swarms. You also have one of the few non-master summoners in toshiro) And I think people are voting for the rules. After all, not everyone knows who Gun guy is going to be.
  21. If he wants to play shooty crew with some build up, then the master which probably fits that the very best is Sommer with family tree. I know you are a gremlin player, so you might not want him to also play gremlins, but he could try that crew to get the game rules and then see what is out there to fit his style. You can play one of the other Gremlin masters for the intro games, and they do have quite different styles.
  22. While we're looking at models that wouldn't work with his interpretation of Rare one, can I suggest looking at the Dreamer who is forced to summon Chompybits (who is rare 1)
  23. Shikome are another thing to consider with their (1) charge against poisoned models. I've tried somethign similar, and its quite hard to get all the pieces working as you want, but could be quite fun.
  24. Will confess I've voted for the Resurectionists as I want to see the theme for them
  25. Yes if Leveticus is Buried, you can't bury things with glimpse the Void On the upside, if you are going with a largely bury themed Tara Crew, then you can attack a buried Levi and kill him. And even if he doesn't die, taking away a bunch of his wounds before he activates will deny Channels, and if you win Initiative making it much easier to re-bury him without him activating, (and so taking one of his lives). So whilst Levi might change the way you have to play the crew, you change the way levi wants to play as well.
