DarkCrisis
Came up today during a game, why does the Guild Lawyer have the Beast subtype?
Murphy'sLawyer
Read the whole entry for the Lawyer and it makes more sence. It is a joke/insult towards lawyer. Wyrd's sence of humor is intact. They essentially "made a deal with someone" before they could join the bar. Don't read into it too much, just try to have a little laugh. JMGraham
Came up today during a game, why does the Guild Lawyer have the Beast subtype? You obviously haven't known many lawyers!
Dolomyte
I actually thought they were like werewolves. based on the art and everything. plus the governer employs some shady people
DarkCrisis
Jokes aside; Marcus can take him for what seems no real reason. Why not like Frozen Heart due to lacking morals or something...
hippieshopper
Or obey him =P
Mentat_Canis
Well other then that fact that he is a BEAST!!!!! But ya its a joke why do lots of things in this game work with one another. They don't take it that serious which is why it is great. So ya way to go Wyrd keep the fun things like this is a beast and the unexplained connection with the Madness and Hoffman. Rathnard
He should have been Vermin instead.
eturns
So ya way to go Wyrd keep the fun things like this is a beast and the unexplained connection with the Madness and Hoffman. The unexplained connection is between Coppelius and Hoffman, most likely as Coppleius is a chracter in a German short story called The Sandman by E.T.A Hoffman. Very clever (and funny) those wyrd people
nilus
Discussed this exact thing this weekend. Its a joke. People forget sometimes that Malifaux is not only Steam/Fantasy/Western/Victorian/Horror. It also has a sense of humor(mostly Dark humor). DarkCrisis
But it's a joke that effects the game. IE a Marcus crew.
Murphy'sLawyer
But it's a joke that effects the game. IE a Marcus crew. Oh my god, Marcus is so broken now! (just playing with ya) I think Marcus can use any love he can get for his crew. He is good but his crew choices die like flies in a bug zapper. So the Lawyer is not thematic but it is still funny.
Nathan Caroland
If you take things too serious, you'll likely not care for our brand of humor. And yes, he can be included in the Marcus crew as he has the beast characteristic, and also yes, it was intentional.
Sliver Chocobo
Came up today during a game, why does the Guild Lawyer have the Beast subtype? Because he's smarter than the average bear
Murphy'sLawyer
Because he's smarter than the average bear Boooo Hiissss.:dead: Don't you have something better to do, like sit in a corner and tarnish or something.
Wodschow
I think someone said that Lucius himself was a Beast aswell during the early days of playtesting for RP, wasn't part of it though, so don't know for sure. But if it is true, then there might be an overall storyline reason for it aswell that just haven't been given to us yet.. (Like how nerdelemental at some point said he found it amusing that people found it strange for Marcus to be able to hire the Rogue Necromancy...) Humm.. Murphy'sLawyer
Wyrd should make a Nightmare hunter (Guild) and name him Nathaneal. "Pretty eyes! Pretty eyes!"
nilus
But it's a joke that effects the game. IE a Marcus crew. Just because it was a joke doesn't mean it was not a planned for and tested joke.
Keltheos
I can say with 100% certianty that giving him Beast was intentional...for one and/or more of the reasons mentioned above...
nerdelemental
And they wear masks for a reason. "Ugly" might be enough. To hide their beast-forms might be another. It's not so loosey-goosey as to just be some nuance where some characteristic is slapped on without consideration of the in-game reality. They are beasts. Not everyone in Malifaux would know it looking upon one, but Marcus would know it. The real question becomes: Why isn't Marcus doing anything about it? Reveal it or something? There's more to Marcus than you think. He'll be explored more in the next book!
DarkCrisis
I guess I don't get the joke. Cive heard lawyers be called heartless and having no morals and greedy etc etc but I'm not sure how to equate one to a beast. A shark I guess? Bottom feeder fish? Jackal? I don't know. I guess inwas more looking for a thematic reason.
Hookers
giving all of the factions more options for beasts helps marcus not only by letting him hire them, but also so that he can interact with them without having to whack them on the head with his little stick first. Murphy'sLawyer
Hey Karn, you can update your Pandora tactica for Coppelius' unexplained connection. (I just happen to be going through it now and ran into this.)
