Countering Ressers

Things that either prevent corpse tokens from forming or erases corpse tokens.  Leveticus & Friends that turn things into Abominations is always good, but there's also Sue with the Peace in the Valley trigger or the Freikorps Specialist.

You opponent announces Ressers, regardless of strat and schemes what models/masters do you reach for?

I often reach for my kicking boots so I can kick them in the shins.

In all seriousness I grab condition removal models, maybe some healing models and whatever suits my needs for the objectives. Taelor or stuff that can ignore HtW also makes the cut pretty often.

Taelor is nice, but sometimes her (0) Welcome to Malifaux requires some setup to use properly.  Since she has to activate early to do it, your opponent summoning things before she activates gets around it pretty easily.  Alternatively, if there are models around that can block the charge lane then she loses out there too.

Whilst this is true she only has 1 (0) action and there isn't a cost (discard a card etc) so it's always worth using just in case. Also she's tough as nails and hits like a truck so she's never a bad choice really.

True enough, no question there. :)

And even if your opponent does mitigate her free charge, that's still dictating your opponent's activation.  At worst it's one less Crooligan bouncing around your back field dropping schemes.  :D

Taelor is a good pick, regardless of what else you bring. However, the correct answer is Leveticus. He is probably one of the best anti-resser masters. With Channel and Face of Death trigger he gets by Hard to Wound with ease, he has a great CA attack to handle incorporeal stuff, and with the Unnatural Wasting trigger he can get through all those wounds fairly easy. In addition, Leve likes to bring constructs, so he can limit the amount of corpse markers too.

Rusty Alyce is a pretty great add on as her gun ignores hard to wound, outranges a lot of resser models and her snares prevent punk zombies and the like from charging near her when summoned.

I also like Taelor because having her smash something that was just summoned feels pretty great.

Lastly, the whole Von Schill crew. They have a lot of corpse marker removal at their disposal, Schill's gun ignores HTW and they have a pretty high WP to deal with hanged.

Only downside there is they lack a little against incorporeal.

Freikorps Librarians only attack is a Ca and it can make use of Furious Casting and can even make blasts with a trigger. Additionally Hannah can copy it so they are all good on the Incorporeal front. Freikorps have an answer to pretty much everything except generic condition removal. The trunk however can remove poison and burning if I recall.

I think focusing on corpse removal against ressers is a trap. Really there aren't that many ressers that really care about them all that much. Nicodem does, Seamus does a little, and that's sort of it. Tara doesn't care, Molly doesn't care, Yan lo generally doesn't care, Kirai doesn't care, Mcmorning doesn't generally care. Now any of them could care if they take the spare parts upgrade, but otherwise, meh. I think having models that work against corpses in the list is a good thing if that ability is just a bonus, but isn't being taken specifically for that action.

Focusing on corpse removal is a trap, but bringing Sue, Steam Trunk or Freikorps Specialist also brings other good stuff on the table.

Don't know why you'd waste effort countering us.  It's far easier to just join us.  You will eventually ...

I think that spending SS on corpse removal during crew building is a trap unless those models are there for other reasons too (and there are some good reasons for them!).  Condition removal certainly helps, it's probably worth it just in case your opponent brings the good Doctor Doug.  As has also been pointed out anything that can ignore HtW or has access to positive damage twists is also excellent.

The worry with the Freikorps versus incorporeal is that the Librarian is required to do most of the heavy lifting. When that Librarian's first attack results in Ikiryo popping up next to her and ripping her to shreds, the rest of your crew is left out in the cold. The Hanged also have a tendency to negate a lot of the Librarian's usual healing utility.

Levy is definitely the "safe" choice to counter most Ressers. The Freikorps are more a "whoops, well at least it's not all bad" choice.
