  1. As part of the SL campaign, I played Ironsides w/ veteran fighter, Captain, Johana, Steamfitter, Effigy, and Wind Gamin. Symbols, Punish the Weak, Show Of Force, Undercover, Recover Evidence, and Take Prisoner. Played against Hoffman thematic list (Box set + Warden & Ryle) Hoffman's crew had a very bad time against that many Relic Hammers
  2. I'm no expert on Gremlin shenanigans, but if I remember correctly, the wording is "cheat from the top of your deck". A cheated RJ allows your opponent to cheat like normal. Just because you don't know the card you're cheating, it's still cheating (if it said you may reflip your card instead of cheating, that would be different)
  3. I played against that list at Adepticon (we were playing for 1st place at the story encounter tournament), I wouldn't exactly call it garbage
  4. It only takes one, but I enjoy have more options for them, because I don't always have a dead spider when I need one, and I hate wasting AP to kill them myself later in the game
  5. After getting a couple games in with Ironsides, I had an idea for another "generic" M&SU member (a la the new models coming in Backdraft). M&SU Recruiter. Make him ~6ss and give him something like (1) Welcome to the Movement (Ca 5 / TN: 12 / Rg: 4): Target friendly model gains the M&SU characteristic until the end of the turn For the Greater Good: Target gains the M&SU characteristic for the rest of the game instead (1) Negotiated Wages: This model may discard a card to add a to its duels for the rest of the turn (0) Stick it to the Man: (Ca 5 / Rst: Wp / Rg: 6) Target model gains the following condition until the end of the turn: "Enemy of the Union: Enemy M&SU models gain to all duels against this model" Maybe a Ml 5 1/2/4 attack, and a Df trigger, "In the Public Eye: Damage flips against this model suffer ", that may be too much though. Thoughts?
  6. Unless something says they aren't affected, they are
  7. I see very little scrap marker generation (basically just the steamfitter), are you just not focusing on summoning? Or are you planning on summoning and killing an EC every turn?
  8. I tried out the list last night against Dreamer, worked pretty well. We upped the pool to 40ss so I added the Medical Automaton, who definitely did work. I'm used to playing summoning masters, so being so severely outactivated was a new feeling. Ironsides managed to kill at least one major model a turn, which turned the tides considerably. Also, Johana swinging on Teddy or Chompy next to Ironsides is a wonderful thing. to attack and to damage is a wonderful thing. Ironsides Killed Chompy simply by standing there and taking hits with her defensive trigger. Very fun master overall
  9. This is something I want to try. I mainly liked the idea of Golems throwing spiders upfield for Ramos. But with under pressure, ice gamin and reactivate, man that's scary. 4 min-10 damage attacks flipping at to attack. I wonder if bringing a metal gamin would be more beneficial to bring up one of the golem's df. What does the raptor do in this list?
  10. That's just gross.... I wish Ramos could do that
  11. I tend to win initiative one turn every 5-10 games I play, so I just try to plan my strategy around going 2nd every turn. Not worth spending the stones on that for me
  12. That seems like an odd complaint. It's only 4 actions (2 attack and 2 tactical: ranged cast attack, a pull, a place, and an interact), and they are all printed on his card. I would understand if actions on upgrades could be used, because that would be much more to keep track of
  13. That seems like it would be effective. It would also stop the + to damage trigger on Arcane Storm. This seems like a good balance without crippling Beacon
  14. We do the variant where you start with a master, more of a personal preference than anything, as well as a short (4 week) campaign
  15. That's a good point on the effigy removing only conditions you want to remove. And it is one upgrade for the whole crew, but any stones not spent become scrip (currency to add new models/upgrades to the arsenal later) so not spending every last stone is not necessarily a waste. Leaving 2 let's me buy at least one more Ironsides upgrade next week (upgrades cost twice as much as their SS cost)
  16. Steamfitters are one of my absolute favorite models, I was debating between that and the Performer. Maybe I will try to rework one in. What would you drop for it?
  17. We are starting a Shifting Loyalties campaign at the shop next week, and I figured this would be a good chance to spend some time with my newest Arcanist master, Ironsides. I've got half a game in with her, how does this look for a starting arsenal? Declared Faction: Arcanists Crew Name: Ironsides SL 35ss Leader: Ironsides - Cache:(5) Iron Determination 1ss The Captain 9ss Envy 8ss Wind Gamin 4ss Performer 5ss Johana 7ss My thinking is: A couple beaters (Captain and Johana) that have movement tricks and condition removal between them Wind gamin and Performer to scheme, and performer for more movement tricks Envy for ranged threat/backfield babysitting As per SL rules I can only start with one upgrade. Because of the whole injuries thing, I figured Iron Determination is the best way to keep Ironsides alive till the end of the game Thought about bringing Ferdinand, because that's another model I want to play a few games with and figure out how to use. But Envy and Johana seem more useful, so maybe he can be a hire down the road
  18. Makes sense. I may bring this upgrade in a friendly game. It looks like fun, if not very competitive
  19. Why all the hate for this specific upgrade of Sandeep's? Never tried it out, but it doesn't look that terrible. Is it just the fact that it stops you from summoning any non-Banasuva gamin? Or that it makes you play Sandeep as a frontliner, with a pretty miserable 1/2/3 damage track? Is it really that bad of an upgrade, or is it just the opportunity cost of the other limiteds?
  20. I'm in a similar spot as WWHSD, I started playing about October of 2017, so after book 5 was released. I also picked Ramos as my first master. I honestly don't find model bloat be an issue. I love how many options there are, and running into things I haven't seen before. I like that they release new stuff that breathes life into lesser used models/masters (Union steamfitter is a huge bonus to Ramos, Kandara was obviously meant for Sandeep, Backdraft seems like it may help Kaeris out)
  21. Malifaux is complex, but that's part of the appeal to me. Two people could play the exact same list 5 times in a row and have 5 very different games. Then take into account the sheer amount of variation you can come up with in terms of models, there is a whole lot there to explore. By comparison, I get kind of bored with 40k, because all the lists start feeling stale and predictable after a bit. At least in my meta. That said I still really enjoy it, but 40k is more a once a month thing for me, where Malifaux is at least once or twice a week
