  1. Touche lol Pretty much all keyword, though I have taken a Prospector before just to fill points, and to also troll my wife (I feel like this earns me VP IRL). I do this because I hate having antisynergies ie having models that do not get full value with Von Schill’s Give Em Hell or the Librarian’s Consolidate Power. Speaking of Arik directly, obviously he brings quite a lot of value to any crew he is hired, both in and out of keyword. My problem with him lies in the fact that he may be more easily countered due to his heavy reliance on Shielding and Armor, and he is likely to face something that ignores all of his damage reduction given that both of these are already prevalent amongst the Freikorps. (For these same reasons I think he is absolutely amazing with Hamelin.) If I were to hire a melee Henchman for the Freikorps, I would hire Taelor. She is speedier than Arik, has a higher Melee stat, and greater range. Most importantly, she relies on HTK instead of Armor or Shielding so she seems to be a safer investment of Soulstones. Mind you, Taelor is just theoryfaux at this point.
  2. This might be blasphemy but I have enjoyed the Freikorps without Strongarm, Hannah, or Lazarus. Only minions for me.
  3. I think that is the intention so we'll play it per your suggested timing. After talking it over with my opponent of course.
  4. Willie has a trigger on his Shockwave action Throw Dynamite called "Fire in the Hole!" that reads: Immediately, all friendly models within 3" of the Shockwave Marker are Pushed 3" away from it. My issue with this is with the timing of Immediately. The timing rules read: V. Declare Triggers (Active player first). i. Immediately Triggers occur. VI. Determine Outcome (if the Acting model’s duel failed, the Action ends without resolving its effects. Skip Step e and move to Step f). In addition, the Shockwave example with Misaki reads: Misaki has taken the Lightning Strike Action. After succeeding at the Action’s TN 13 duel (using her stat of 7). She then Drops a Shockwave Marker within 8" of herself. Taking the two examples into account, how can Willie immediately push all friendly models within 3" of the Shockwave Marker 3" away when the Shockwave Marker is only dropped after succeeding the Simple Duel? Unless I am missing something, the Shockwave Marker doesn't exist yet.
  5. That was definitely an oversight on my part not mentioning Moldy Cheese. I do plan on making use of it to squeeze every last action I can from my Rat Kings, and circumstantial Rats. Do you mean with Freight Train? I thought it just did that to the first model the Golem made contact with?
  6. No apologies necessary. I didn’t think anything of the edit. I agree. Both they, and the Engineers, are fantastic for the Rocket Launcher as they each have a way to build in that Crit Strike.
  7. No problem! I went through the same sad realization. It is for the best though. The Librarians and Freikorpsmann have to have something they can’t do.
  8. I have pondered the same thing with Hamelin but during Theoryfaux I always came back to the same problems: What schemes could a crew of mostly Insignificant models feasibly achieve? Assuming there was a pool this crew could achieve, could they achieve it better than another crew I could have hired instead? How do I handle gunlines? Unfortunately, I was never able to come up with anything solid for Problem 1, let alone the other 2. I would be greatly interested if anyone else could contribute to this exercise though. What would be your Blight Vectors for a theory list?
  9. Actions generated by Triggers, like in Load Up and “Pull!”, cannot declare Triggers, see pg 12. That means the Scout is the best target for a Rocket Launcher and the “Give ‘em Hell!” Trigger on Load Up as he still gets his benefits from Advanced Sights and Pursue.
  10. Hi all! I am back with my wife's revealed list for our upcoming game! In response to Hamelin my wife revealed Mei Feng and her crew is the following: The Crew Mei Feng Forgeling Metal Golem- Silent Protector Sun Quiang Willie Rail Worker 2x Metal Gamin Initial Thoughts A couple of things come to mind immediately upon seeing her crew: The redundancy of Scrap generation in her crew means that she will have plenty of Scrap for her actions and Ride the Rails. However, none of her crew have good mobility outside of this Scrap dependency. Between Mei Feng, the Golem, and Willie, her crew has a multitude of ways to damage mine without targeting them. One of them will have to die, and quickly. Denial Game Plan It is unlikely that I will be able to clear the area completely of Scrap Markers, and even if the opportunity arises, I think it would be a gross mismanagement of my actions. Though her Scrap affords her great mobility, it is telegraphed, meaning I have a change to respond. I believe that Scrap removal should only be focused on Scrap which would allow her to disengage from my bubble and/or afford her the chance to Plant Explosives. Scrap in my bubble I am less concerned about for a few reasons. First, I want her models there as them activating in my auras is a passive form of Blight. Second, her Scrap in the bubble can give her VP through the End of Game scoring on Dig Their Graves, but other than that her Scrap does not directly contribute to her winning as Harness and Dig each require scheme markers. Sun Quiang's can be used to accomplish this, however, it is only once per Turn and I have 4 ways to remove her scheme markers thereafter (Prospectors' Appraise and Rat Kings' Gnaw). Her non-direct forms of damage I have a harder time planning around. I think the best plan then is to kill one of her main damage dealers to gain some breathing room. Mei Feng and the Golem seem to be unwise to try and take down early as the former is a Soulstone user and the latter would require to much of an action investment early on. Willie has no real defenses to speak of so he appears to be the best target to take out early on. Explosive 3 will sting my Rat Kings quite a bit though... I think my best chance at deployment is to deploy Hamelin with his Stolen and Rat Kings between the mid-point and where the centerline meets the table-edge. A Prospector will be closer to the mid-point and the remaining Prospector, the Wretch, and the Emissary I am undecided about. This will allow me a great positional advantage as Hamelin's Lure and the Prospector's pseudo-Lure will allow me to deny Outflank and Claim Jump. I think it unlikely to deny Vendetta's first point, though the second seems more manageable. Scoring Game Plan I plan to go for Harness and Dig as I have a few ways to drop Scheme Markers in combat (Emissary, Trinket, Prospectors). Plant Explosives could be the harder to manage though as the models I have that are best suited to scoring it would be my Rat Kings with all of their movement tricks. Unfortunately, they are also my chief source of damage. Accomplice can help mitigate this though as Hamelin can make one move and Plant Explosives and then it can Accomplice and charge back into the fray. I plan to put explosives on both my Kings, 1 Prospector, the Wretch, and Hamelin. The explosive on Hamelin is purely for Denial purposes and will hopefully lure (haha) my wife into charging in. That is enough word vomit for today. I can't wait for Friday's game and hope you all enjoyed!
  11. I have been wondering if that may be the best use of his actions after Turn 1. I have been considering taking a Scout with Soldier for Hire and using him as a missile platform. Rocket Launcher shot at 6that ignores Concealment and Friendly Fire and can occasionally be at 7is no joke. Cheat the Damage for that tasty severe and earn your cards back with Bounty Hunter. That is all Theoryfaux though... Other than that I have also used him as a courier for models. Load up to use Rocket Boots immediately into another engagement. Walk. Bonus to pull them out and use Load Up to reattach Rocket Boots with a heal or free focused.
  12. I am not quite decided on Nix. I think I want to paint him with chocolate on his face and chocolate around his stomach where the Rats are devouring him. I would base him with empty wrappers lying in a growing pool of melted and half eaten chocolates and blood. I guess I am just trying to choose between either a more industrial setting, like a Wonka warehouse, or the weird rolling hills of candy and grass running alongside the chocolate river. Decisions, decisions.
  13. Thanks for the link. I think you are correct that Greenstuff will be my best option. I purchased Terry Tonker from Crooked Dice to hopefully use in place of Hamelin, assuming the scaling isn’t too off. I am going to do the Stolen as children from the movie, or maybe just generic children taken for their greed and gluttony. I am thinking the Obedient Wretch and Rat Catchers can be warehouse workers/ lab assistants and the Winged Plague can be diseased flying Oompa Loompas (correct spelling)? Edit: My wife, very delirious and exhausted, suggested that I purchase a bunch of the Oompa Loompas that go with Terry Tonker and use them in lieu of Rats. Kind of terrifying. Expensive idea, and whilst an Oompa Loompa popping out of a person while he dies is nightmare fuel, I think I like flying pestilent Loompas better. That, and I am going to paint the Rats white and slightly covered in either chocolate or a candy coating similar to skittles. They will be sitting in red “jam” of course. Edit 2: My wife turned me onto candy doll house accessories or candy beads. There may be something usable there to complement with Greenstuff.
  14. Hi all. I plan on painting and basing my Hamelin crew as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory but in my initial searching I haven’t found any accessories or basing materials that have been produced that I can use. Does anyone have any advice I can use on where to find something that could work? Thanks in advance!
  15. Is the clone or the originally typing this?
  16. Hi y'all. I'm a wyrd-o and decided that the release of the new edition would be a great time for me to start detailing my experiences with Malifaux. Given that I am currently in school with a family size that is quickly expanding, updates may be sporadic and content lacking a unifying theme. My plan is to detail the misadventures between my wife (10T/Arcanist) and I (Outcast). I hope you guys enjoy! For this first post I will detail our upcoming game on 8/30 between Mei Feng (10T) and Hamelin. I was determined to play Hamelin regardless of scenario as some questions were still nibbling at my thoughts after my first game with him. How many rats do I actually need? How generous do I have to be with Blight? How bad is the Winged Plague really? Why am I so in love with the metal Obedient Wretch? The Scenario Plant Explosives Harness the Leyline Outflank Vendetta Claim Jump Dig Their Graves With this scenarios I flip-flopped between a few different lists, though each one was intended to be built for Harness and Graves. I also wanted to build to try to answer my lingering questions detailed above. Ultimately I decided on the crew here: The Crew Hamelin 3x Stolen Hodgepodge Emissary Obedient Wretch 2x Rat King- Servant of Dark Powers 2x Prospectors Cache 5 Justifying my Build Hamelin I gave serious consideration to paying for SoDP as I loathe walking with my Master and this would allow him to try to Lure enemies into the Blight bubble more quickly. The heals are also nice for keeping him around longer. I ultimately decided to forego giving Hamelin the upgrade as I thought it would be better suited on a Rat King. I plan to stack Blight quickly on select models with Lure and stones with priority being the Rail Golem and Mei Feng herself. Hamelin's bonus will be focused into the Rat Kings to try and cripple as many models as early as possible. Though corner case, Injured from his staff will help make the Rat Kings' Terrifying duels harder to pass. 3x Stolen The Stolen I plan to use mainly for out-activation and for Hamelin's Agony. One I intend to utilize as a flex piece for the Emmisary's free scheme marker and for opportunistic damage from Vomiting Disease. Hodgepodge Emissary I hired the Emissary with the idea that he gives a free marker with no flip and that his trinkets would allow me to get the most out of the Rat Kings before they lose their to damage. Both his Regeneration Trinket and Accomplice/Companion (cannot remember which one it gives) would allow them to deal much more reliable damage through chain attacks with each other or the Wretch and hopefully trigger Spray of Filth. Obedient Wretch The metal Wretch is why I bought the crew so she is a mandatory hire. Upon my initial reading of her rules I believed her to be a great assassin model through the combination of Analyze Weakness, Bleeding Disease, and Tummy Aches but I think she operates best as a hard to target flex piece. Tummy Aches works on any opposed duel meaning it works to her benefit defensively as well as with the Disengage action so when she is not being used to soften up or finish key models I will use her to drop scheme markers and explosives. 2x Rat King- Servant of Dark Powers The Rat Kings are going to be my chief vector of Blight for this game. I intend to missile them up Turn 1 and hopefully kill a model to trigger Spray of Filth. If I see that it is unwise to do so I will instead stack Focus on them. SoDP was given to them for the defensive benefit and healing primarily to keep them above half wounds for that great to damage. 2x Prospectors I was conflicted on whether or not to bring a Prospector over a Winged Plague as I love having a good concentration of Vermin to take advantage of Hamelin's bonus action. When I evaluate the Prospector though I always expect to get about 3 stones out of them which ultimately persuaded me. Their Appraise action would allow me to better dictate where the Foundry could be Ride the Rails as well as help deny Claim Jump, Harness, and Graves. They can also circumstantially drop 2 scheme markers a turn. Cohesively, this selection of models allows me great control over my opponent. I have 3 potential sources of Slow (Kings and Emissary), 4 potential movement effects (Hamelin, Emissary, and Prospectors) and 2 sources of Injured (Hamelin and Emissary). In addition, every member of my crew is a pain to try and target for damage. Hamelin has Agony and Soulstones; Stolen have Stealth and Serene Countenance, Obedient Wretch has Stealth, Manipulative, and Tummy Aches; Emissary has Hard to Kill and both him and the Prospectors have Manipulative; and the Rat Kings have Terrifying. Where my crew is lacking is with consistent damage. I absolutely need to stack Blight on problem models and FAST. If my Rat Kings don't kill above their weight before they die then my crew will lose its bite. In addition, while my crew is a pain to target they are still able to be killed quite effectively by indirect damage such as from Hazardous Terrain, Shockwaves, and Blasts. What's worse is that this weakness of my crew is one easily telegraphed by the design of Hamelin's keyword so there will be plenty of it. It will take good target priority and a little luck for me to win. Well that is enough word vomit from me today. Hopefully none of you readers contracted a disease from reading this and I hope you enjoyed. Next time I will hopefully detail my wife's crew and the grief it brings. Have a good day!
  17. I would have him “Pull” enemies or use Shouting Orders to Concentrate and Shoot for mid or high damage.
  18. On Turn 4 you said you double stoned for cards. However, Pg 27 reads that you may spend a soulstone.
  19. That is what I am debating between currently. Despite my stance we are currently playing as though only 1 Rat total is summoned. Less hurt feelings that way. I also agree that RAI it is a total of 1.
  20. If a model were to die within range of multiple Voracious Rats auras, would you summon 1 Malifaux Rat per aura or just 1 Rat total? I am inclined to believe it is 1 per aura as the dying model’s game state doesn’t appear to be affected by Voracious Rats. If this has been answered already I do apologize as I couldn’t find it through a search.
  21. Plant Explosives, Deliver a Message, Hold Up Their Forces, Outflank, Search the Ruins, Take Prisoner Hamelin- SoDP 3X Stolen Obedient Wretch Rat King- SoDP Rat King Rat Catcher Winged Plague 5X Malifaux Rats Tied 7-7 vs Misaki Takeaways: First game with Hamelin and my plan was to learn the crew and figure out if the Winged Plague are useful. Looking over the WP’s card, his best use was to drop scheme markers via an interact action or via his tactical action that uses Blight. The problem was his squishiness. Therefore I decided I would use the WP and his scheme markers to catapult up the Rat Kings to engage the enemy immediately so that I could spread Blight via Spray of Filth and the WP could fly unnoticed. He lasted the whole game and helped achieve Search the Ruins and helped with explosives. Rat Kings were amazing. I think I will use a variation of this crew to continue funneling actions into them. Obedient Wretch looks like she should be great but she just helped achieve Search and Explosives. Misaki was too preoccupied with the Rat Kings. The Rat Catcher appears useful. He didn’t do anything flashy this game. Stolen were great as extra lives for Hamelin and were surprisingly dangerous later in the game. The Rats I used to form a King once one was taken down and also as bombs. Very fun. Hamelin was shockingly versatile. All actions on his card seemed to be great, especially the triggers. I made frequent use of Skittering Vermin to move the WP and others across the board. His rat bombs were a nice surprise for clustered enemies. I was amazed at the versatility of his bonus action. Giving all Vermin within 6” the ability to move 3” and use an action was very powerful. I used it extensively for extra charges, walks, interacts, attack actions, and focus. I don’t think I will take SoDP on him again though. The 6” move was great but Hamelin couldn’t capitalize on it as early as other masters to justify its cost. Between Von Schill and Hamelin I have switched to maining Outcasts, though Reva is still my first love.
  22. I have used my Wanyudo with Saint Reva and it has always performed well. It is a good model but it is fragile. My wife’s Shang broke the wheel quite easily...
